Palm Springs Vacation Is it possible to make a youth comedy without excessive vulgarity and stupid humor?
James Frawley was able to do it and surprise me.
Sometimes I want to see something light and not tense, and this time my choice fell on Student holidays (Fraternity Vacation). The film was interested primarily in the participation of Tim Robbins - this is one of his first films. But, as I mentioned above, I wanted to see a simple and non-trivial plot with a dose of humor.
So let's get to know the characters. Wendell (Stephen Jeffries) - quite modest, intelligent, often gets into awkward situations, does not have victories on the love front, the son of quite rich parents. His father attracts two of his comrades to help in the affairs of the amorous: Joe ( Cameron Dai) and Mommy ( Tim Robbins), they are liberated, easy to rise, friendly and cheerful guys. So, they come to the resort where they meet guys from a rival fraternity. Joe and Mommy make a bet with them: who will be the first to seduce and drag into bed the impregnable beauty Ashley (Sheri J. Wilson), he will receive $ 1000.
The plot does not try to go a curved path, but emerges quite clearly and clearly, but this does not repel. The characters are interesting to watch. You get the naiveté of a little bit infantile Wendell, because he's a very kind and right character. Almost the same story with Joe and Mommy. They are fun, nice guys and good friends. You watch their adventures and get carried away by history. Slowly the tangle of history spins, giving us funny situations, funny moments, beautiful views, victories and failures, etc. You want to watch it and it attracts you. There are only a couple of erotic scenes in the film, and humor is more based on the situations in which the characters fall. Humor is simple and pleasant, without unnecessary cruelty and low-grade jokes.
As a result, I can recommend to those who like light comedies. Good humor, the characters look good in the frame, juicy picture. The film is a bit banal plot and will not surprise you with some unexpected turns, but it does not make you bored. Such a good movie to relax. It brings a piece of warmth to the soul and leaves a positive impression.
P.S. I also recommend Tim Robbins to fans. It is always a pleasure to watch him play.
