Here's the "Mission" I've heard about. J.J. Abrams, who replaced John Wu, took the spectacle of the sequel and the spy story from the first part and turned out really cool. Here and the first appearance of Simon Pegg, who will later become a permanent hero, and the return of Ving Rhames as Luther, a loyal friend of Hunt from the first film, and the personal life of Ethan finally improves.
But there is a new dangerous enemy, Owen Devian, in the person of Philip Seymour Hoffman, and how magnificent he is here. The actor puts all 100 and from his hero really comes danger, although we do not see as such his actions directly.
In addition to a really interesting plot, the creators have made a lot of cool and mesmerizing action, which only costs a shootout on the bridge or Ethan Hunt’s run around Shanghai ( which becomes a tradition, because the Mission will change itself if Cruz does not run). Separately, I will note the scene of Hunt’s abduction of an object, when the viewer does not even really see Ethan, but only Luther and the crew, waiting for the captain to contact again. It seems like a simple scene, but how much tension rises in the moment.
Also pleased with the characters, they have become more voluminous, that is, Hunt, who is ready to get married and retire from tasks, and Devian, who has motivation and who is greatly helped by the chic and intimidating Philip Seymour Hoffman. Of course, here is once again high Cruz, at his age, he performs all the tricks himself and you can see that he likes it. Immersing myself in his filmography, I notice more and more that the recent Top Gun was not only about Maverick, who still flies, but also about Tom Cruise, who still largely refuses graphics and himself is happy with crazy tricks.
Here, in places, very cool and beautiful camera work, a large number of different locations and you never tire of following all this, and movements around the world are logically determined by the plot.
As a result, it turned out, maybe not the best part of the franchise, but one that clearly jumps on its head, or even two above its predecessors, which is helped by both the technical side and the cool actors.

In the third part, the directorial relay from John Wu was taken by J.J. Abrams. And perhaps the franchise has benefited. Taking the spectacle of the second tape and shaking out the most unrealistic tricks, he combined it with the spy spirit of the first film, and in the end got quite a strong movie, which today looks cheerful.
The fact that the franchise definitely stepped forward, says including one of the plot moves, which almost completely repeats the twist from the first part. However, if there he was predictable to the point, then it is much more difficult to find a solution before Ethan Hunt himself.
And - I can't help but say this separately - how gorgeous Cruz runs! We all remember dozens or even hundreds of chases from other movies. In many of them, the pursuit depended – no more, no less – someone’s life, or even the fate of the whole city, country, and planet, in the end! And on the screen, we saw the actors barely move their legs, or even if they run pretty fast, they run without a light. So Cruz in this movie, I think, was the ambassador for the phrase 'run for your life!' He really rushes so that, it seems, his knees are now flying out (my uncle, for a minute, at the time of filming was about forty!) Honestly, I really enjoyed the episode with Hunt’s run (which comes closer to the finals).
But enough about Cruz. Let's talk about the other actors - good, there is someone. The old-timer of the series Ving Rhames is habitually brutal and charismatic, and his character does not need more. Actually, from the previous parts migrated only Cruz and Raims, for the rest of the actors this appearance was the first in the franchise.
Morpheus All Earth Lawrence Fishburne here got the role of a caustic boss, with which he copes perfectly. He appears in the frame infrequently, but the hung language of his character makes the head of the intelligence service (or who he is) bright and memorable. Simon Pegg is supposed to be responsible for humor in every movie he appears in. And this one is no exception. Michelle Monaghan plays, suddenly, Hunt's wife. She had more emotions than the previous two actors, and she played them quite convincingly. Philip Seymour Hoffman as the antagonist is convincing and dangerous. The rest of the cast is not particularly remembered, and, probably, they should not have, because no matter how much you stuff characters into the film, Ethan Hunt eclipses everyone.
Abrams can, if not applaud, then nod approvingly for the fact that, first, he tried to reveal Ethan from the other side - from the side of a man in love. In the first film there were only hints of a love line, in the second laustoria was frankly unsuccessful, and here it looks quite in its place. Second, unlike the second film, where Cruz was the axis around which the universe revolved, here Ethan is a center character, albeit a leader, but also a team player. And it seems to me that this hypostasis suits him much more than the one in which John Wu presented him.
In my opinion, the third part is the strongest of the first three films. But not to say that she beat them much, so I will give her the same rating as the films of Brian de Palma and John Wu.

The first two films were successful at the box office, so we were waiting for a sequel. From the previous work I received mixed impressions, but from this part of the series began to move in the right direction. I cannot say that this is a perfect picture, but I have a positive attitude towards it and am ready to discuss it in more detail.
The plot continues the story of Ethan Hunt, who seems to have quit his activities. He lives an ordinary life and even has a fiancée who does not even know about the passion of his boyfriend. But one day our hero is still called on a task where his partner dies. After that, the tangle of events unfolds and Ethan must again plunge into the old world. In general, the beginning is quite standard in the sense that such moves occur often. When it’s not the franchise’s first picture, the authors often force the characters back to business. But I won’t call it a bad story, especially since it’s emotional and with some surprises.
I liked how the creators combined detective moments and classic action. Last time it was really a problem, but now it was a good combination. Even the same techniques were woven more organically and interestingly. In addition, the level of visuals and combat scenes has increased. It's still not the pinnacle of potential, but there are a few scenes performed on the undisputed 5. In addition, the attraction is that the events take place in different places, which allows you to see more different locations. There is no problem with entertainment.
In terms of characters and actors, everything is stable. Tom Cruise is always on top and shows great hard work. And even in some scenes there were strong emotions. The villain turned out not bad, although I think with not fully disclosed potential. I can also praise the teamwork. For indeed, more than once our hero is saved by his partners, who perform an important role, although not in the foreground.
The verdict. This is an example of a good movie for the evening, which has a smooth plot, pleasant acting and an interesting visual. Not much to expect from him, but I'm sure it's a good way to spend the evening and have fun. Therefore, I can recommend a review.
Golden time. Not to say that now Mission is bad, it is not, just nostalgia for the time and the film takes its toll. I remember my condition waiting for me on May 4, 2006. The anticipation was very strong, I really wanted to see Ethan for the third time, the trailer was so cool, I could watch it for hours. And after watching it in the cinema, I was wildly excited. It's been over 16 years. ..
How to watch this movie in 2022? Very beautiful. Dynamically, there are dramatic moments, a good love line, action on top, a chic villain who has a mind in the first place and he is almost without weaknesses, there are other interesting characters, and Ethan is of course incomparable.
The third part is significantly different from the previous parts, here the drama begins with the first seconds. JJ Abrams does not let the viewer relax, he immediately shows the heat that awaits the main character. The conversation between Ethan and Owen is unparalleled and untiring. He's perfect. Ethan Hunt has never been in this situation before. And it is very cool, with all the drama, believe one and the other.
Tom Cruise, perfectly conveyed the emotions of his character. Emotionally, and especially, he managed dramatic moments, at the beginning and at the end it was interesting to watch his character fight for his wife. I was also very happy with the action.
Philip Seymour Hoffman, one of the best villains I've seen, was even a pity that in the end it turned out so well, I wanted to see more of his character. He is very dangerous, cold-blooded, not throwing words to the wind. A man of action. It has a lot of fire. His confrontation with Ethan was magnificent, ranging from conversations to action scenes.
Michelle Monaghan, as Ethan's wife, was very compelling and interesting. It was interesting watching her not suspect who Ethan Hunt was. I loved her happy life with Ethan and how everything collapses suddenly. It is a beautiful expression of dramatic moments.
Billy Crudup, one of the minor characters that was nice to watch. From his first appearance to the end, it was interesting to watch him. It was immediately clear that he was sufficiently hidden. I liked his interaction with Ethan.
Laurence Fishburne, for me one of the decorations of the film his role. Curator Theodore Brassell at first seems quite blind and prescient, but the further you watch him, the more you understand him. It was interesting to watch Lawrence, who does not take much attention in action, but is more focused on his demands.
Mission Impossible 3 is another cool film in the series, which stands out not only for its action and dynamics, but primarily for its drama, emotions, a very smart and strong villain with almost no weaknesses. I watched this movie with great pleasure.
CIA agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has retired and lives with his fiancée Julia (Michelle Monaghan). In the evening, he meets his friend, agent John Musgrave (Bill Crudup). He gives him a camera bag and leaves. At home, Ethan watches a secret video on camera: his former student Lindsey Farris (Kerie Russell) was captured by arms dealer Owen Davian (Philip Seymour-Hoffman). He travels to Berlin, but the operation fails, Lindsay dies and Ethan has to travel the world (Vatican, America, China) to catch Davian. But he puts his fiancée at risk. . .
After the second Mission, the spy film received many reproaches that it was psychologically flat and unreliable and too melodramatic. But the special effects and, although rare, but cool action scenes were fine. I don’t know if Tom Cruise listened to or read the reproaches, but he decided to spin the human story in the third part first. That is why his wife, at death, appears in the first scene. Like a manifesto. Did that help the movie? Alas. The action came out spiky, and psychological reliability seems to have not increased. On the contrary, the third part became, despite the efforts of Cruise himself and Philip Seymour Hoffman and the disclosure of the secret of creating the mask, something like On His Majesty's Secret Service for Bond. Making a lone psychotic (though not an insensitive beast, but...) a married sentimental is too much. And the choice of wife was bland. Nurse? Seriously?! Or is it supposed to be such a quiet family harbour and Hunt needs constant treatment? And it seems that everything is not so bad, but as ' clean' drama is not interesting, and it is not necessary - other films for this there, and for the action movie lost the action. So it's better to watch Nolan and Mandes movies on this field. However, the Mission still has its impossible chips, so if it disappoints, then not everyone.
39 A person’s character can be judged by the way he treats those whom he does not need to treat well. '
Of the entire movie universe called 'Mission Impossible' I've always liked the third part. At the wheel of this film was the director JJ Abrams. He is remembered as the director of famous TV series, and in recent years as the director of large-budget blockbusters such as ' Star Wars' episodes 7 and 9, ' Star Trek' and 'Star Trek: Retribution'.
This director is always large-scale, works boldly and is not afraid to take risks. Ambitiousness and fresh ideas are always felt in his films. I don’t think all the films are masterpieces. What works are very good, somehow neutral, but he did not have a single film that I would say: 'no' or 'no, don't like'.
The first film 'Mission Impossible' became a cult in the genre of spy action films, which was cool. It was like Pandora’s box was opened, and now this process was unstoppable: more and more films began to appear about CIA agent Ethan Hunt. The second film 'Mission Impossible' the only one I DON'T like about this movie universe: it turned out dry and dull, something he clearly lacked.
But the third part is the most successful, in my opinion. Adventure action film 'Mission: Impossible III' dynamic, action-packed, exciting, it was like a breath of fresh air in this movie universe. The direction here was better than in the first two films, the acting and quite brilliant from the first to the last frame. You get a lot of fun watching this movie.
We see former CIA agent Ethan living a normal life. He retired from state affairs of espionage, the impossible missions he always carried out. Ethan Hunt has found a woman and lives a quiet, peaceful life. His measured, family peace was destroyed by another mission, on which the CIA leadership begged him to go. Hunt's pupil has been kidnapped and dangerous arms dealers are being pursued. Hunt gets into a series of incredible events, and his work unexpectedly affects his personal life, and the happiness and lives of his loved ones are at stake. . .
Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise... And how good he is here. Tom plays his most popular role and we love his character. But it is in this film that all emotions go off the scale. What powerful, dramatic scenes - you pay attention. The actors play amazingly, and the viewer experiences a wave of action and experiences, everything looks torpor and as if a cold sweat.
Philip Seymour Hoffman was a very talented actor, and his villain here played chic. Such pure acting is what real acting is. In the secondary role, it was nice to see Lawrence Fishburne, and Keri Russell was remembered here.
The film is still relevant today and I personally love it. The viewer is left to fasten his seatbelts and go on an incredible mission of a famous CIA agent. It was an evolution of Mission: Impossible, and the third part is good. I revisited it after all these years and it was really cool.
'Mission Impossible 3' - adventure, spy action movie in the genre of the thriller of 2006. The result: the film is really successful and thoughtful, and if you have never watched a single film about Mission: Impossible, and do not know what it is, then you can safely plunge into the third part, it will not fail.
Everyone is in a good mood and only good movies.
39 I have to tell you the truth. You don't know much about my real job. '
'Mission: Impossible 3' is one of the best films in the franchise that still looks great 14 years after its release. This is a tense action-thriller that meets all the requirements ' impossible' series, but having a rather serious mood, seasoned with a certain amount of realism.
The whole plot revolves around a certain 'rabbit foot' - a local McGuffin, the essence of which for the viewer remains a mystery, however, not that it was a minus for the story. As always, the narrative here plays into the picture's hands first - so Tom Cruise can perform even more crazy stunts.
And since we are talking, in this regard, the third & #39; Mission & #39; everything is fine. The picture is very good, the production is happy, there are enough spectacular and cool moments. Again, everything looks quite down-to-earth (compared, for example, with subsequent films in the franchise), but in general, the need for action is satisfying.
The triquel holds the dynamics well - the tape is not boring to watch, both due to the visual content directly, and due to the story, which, for all its simplicity, retains attention and periodically shakes the viewer. Even a slightly changed approach to the main character is interesting - Ethan Hunt here is much more human and vulnerable, and now and then his whole mission is on the verge of failure. This causes more empathy for the character than in previous films, and in subsequent ones too.
Good actors - in addition to the actual Tom Cruise, the tape lit up the permanent Ving Rhames in the role of Luther, charming Michelle Monaghan in the image of Ethan Hunt's passion, and in small roles lit up Simon Pegg and Lawrence Fishburn. And the role of the main antagonist was played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, and he coped wonderfully. In general, everything is fine with the caste.
What's in the leftover? 'Mission: Impossible 3' it's a great example of an action movie that doesn't get old and that's nice to come back to even after a one-time viewing. I definitely recommend it.
After a very controversial, and in my opinion frankly unsuccessful & #39; Mission: Impossible 2', in the chair of the director of the triquel of the famous franchise sat J.J. Abrams. And the series under his sensitive guidance rose, returning to its origins and again began to look like a first-class spy action movie. What contributed to this? Let's have a look.
First, the film literally from the first seconds makes it clear that the further narrative will be very gloomy and serious, and Ethan Hunt is no longer up to jokes and his snow-white smile. Approximately in this mood and passes the entire timekeeping - the third ' Mission' this is a rather mundane and tense action movie, in which you really empathize with the main character and sometimes do not even believe that this time he will cope. So Hunt here is more vulnerable than ever, and largely thanks to this approach, the tape looks with great interest.
It is worth saying that the film turned out to be very dynamic, it does not stop literally for a minute, events do not stall, something is constantly happening in the frame - whether it is an action scene or another plot dialogue, the viewer's attention is constantly riveted to the screen. Speaking of action, he's good, very good. Beautiful production and performance make each action scene tense and memorable.
Everything else - as always, the film has a beautiful cast. In addition to the permanent Tom Cruise and Ving Reims, who returned to his image of Luther, the cast still boasts episodic appearances of Lawrence Fishburne and Simon Pegg. And from Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played the role of the main antagonist, he actually turned out to be a great villain, largely thanks to the actor’s play. The classic masks for the series and other spy gadgets with secret penetrations returned, and the cult title theme. But the soundtrack as a whole pumped up - no other track I do not remember at all.
What's the bottom line? Mission: Impossible 3' is one of the best parts of the franchise and one of the best action movies in general. It is interesting, dynamic, able to keep the viewer’s attention from the beginning to the final credits. I definitely recommend it.
J.J. Abrams combined the best elements of the previous parts, almost getting rid of their shortcomings. Before us is an interesting and exciting action without excessive display with explosions and slow motion. Actually, this is the main merit of Abrams – I can not name any of his brilliant films, but I can not name any bad ones. If he had the task of finding a middle ground between the first two parts, he accomplished it without any genius, but with the highest quality. At the same time, however, adding a bit of melodrama.
The main advantage of the third part I consider its main villain. Hoffman perfectly got used to the image and perfect for his role, if you forget about the final fight, which somewhat lubricates the impression. Still, this character should not descend to a banal muzzle. Among the other actors, I would like to mention Myers, although this is not his brightest role, but Lawrence Fishburne is still the worst of all bosses, in my opinion. Michelle Monaghan is ideal for the role of an ordinary American wife, but outwardly inferior to the girls from the past parts, and significantly.
I liked that it was here that there was a normal division into mini-missions and a wide geography of filming with quite recognizable landscapes, even if Berlin did not allow to implement the original idea with the Bundestag. Shanghai is good both as new skyscrapers and as tiny houses in old neighborhoods — cool that we were shown both sides of this city. In general, having solved the problem with the shortcomings of the first two parts, the film lost somewhat in originality, so I can not call it a tangible progress, but of the entire trilogy - it turned out to be the most even in the aspect of combining the visual series and the script.

If you want to make a high-quality and balanced blockbuster, call Abrams. This commandment of a movie designed to chew popcorn worked perfectly in the middle of zero. Now the priorities are a little different, but still plunge into the glorious two thousand sixth.
After a very serious first part, an extremely unsuccessful and crooked sequel with an Asian flavor, the franchise, of course, needed urgent rehabilitation. And, six years after the second picture, a triquel comes out, which looks at that time the most genre-resistant action movie from the entire franchise.
As the picture begins with the most powerful cliffhanger, and does not let go until the very end. But once a woman appeared in the life of our often unlucky Ethan Hunt, the plot was perceived differently.
The action scenes are more poked up than in both previous films combined, but, nevertheless, from the endless explosions and chase, they are shot tensely, almost in the Born style (which was then at the peak of popularity). From the films about Bourne and also juicy color correction brought, but as far as I remember, this is generally a traditional technique for films of those few years.
Mission Impossible 3 is an exemplary adventure about the value of family and strong heroes. Incredibly strong from the point of view of action scenes work and one of the best parts of the franchise, which stands in the middle between Bond’s liking and Born’s super seriousness. That’s what an entertaining espionage picture should be.
"Here's what you need" - I said while watching this part, while watching the second I had only laudatory interjections, because I love such attractions as the one that turned out in John Wu - here about the same delight, but not as explosive as the sequel, but certainly the impression is incomparably more powerful than the expensive, but not looking at my budget, the first part, which I consider a pen break in the franchise; and than the 4 and 5 parts, in which he tried to do not believe in the computer act, which he did not believe in extreme, but in the fact that he did not believe in the story. In general, the last two “missions” were not as empty as the first, so I have few complaints. The third part showed an almost perfect action movie, which you can safely put 10, although it does not shine and does not sparkle with each frame, like the second part.
The triquel begins with a scene of violence, where the mafia extorts a certain “rabbit foot” from a person, and kills his girlfriend without waiting for an intelligible answer. Then we are shown the peaceful life of Ethan Hunt, who gets married and throws a party in honor of this. Not a word about training cadets, as mentioned in the description. Since the holiday, an old friend with whom Ethan has a strained relationship pulls him out with his call, as evidenced by the fact that Ethan did not invite him to the party. An acquaintance asks Ethan, as the most experienced agent, to take up the case of kidnapping a woman by the mafia, which has been pursued for a long time. Ethan and the squad go to Berlin, where they find a base where the woman is hidden, and in the course of a rather simple and unseen action, they take her out of the building, after which their plane is chased, which showed the first spectacular scene in the film. On the plane, it turns out that a chip is implanted in the woman’s head, and contrary to the laws of the genre, the rescued woman dies. Now Ethan must track down a large mobster and his buyers to avenge the one who was his younger sister, and neutralize the criminal. Methods of calculating the location of the criminal pleased with his ingenuity (Roman operation), and the scene with the masquerade of Ethan, masquerading as an object, pleased with humor, and all would be nothing, only the scene with the calculation of the object is drawn out, and the action is almost no, unlike the incredibly spectacular second part. But when our heroes captured an influential thug, even under torture threatening Ethan, when the detachment drove the prisoner across the bridge, I immediately guessed that the long-awaited large-scale battle would take place here. I don't think it's possible to explain whose people attacked the passing people and who their target is? It is understandable that Ethan's wife will be at risk after this scene. Another violation of typical action laws: Ethan doesn't fit into the two hours he's been given, although usually, as you know, in American action movies, everything is decided in the last seconds of that deadline. Later, the viewer will see that the first brutal scene is a reference to the events where Ethan will go to China, and the murder of the girl is not quite real (more precisely, not so significant for Ethan). The only significant drawback (for a small amount of graphics compared to the second part, I did not want to scold the triquel after all the tension of the second half of the film) is that they did not really tell what a “rabbit foot” is.
Sometimes the description of the plot without spoilers leaves some pathetic four lines, here I had to describe the many plot twists , many of which can cause interest without special effects - and here you see the second paragraph of my review, consisting of descriptions of the actions of the characters with parallel comments to them. This is my review, because, as a person who does not know life very well, I do not undertake to describe blunders that I did not care about even in Furious 7. I just love high-quality action films based on the fight between good and evil. And with this evil our favorite Ethan Hunt copes more than skillfully, for which thank you.

Honestly, I am a big fan of all impossible missions, and could not ignore the third part of the spy saga, in which superagent Ethan Hunt will have to save not only the world, but also love.
Ethan Hunt was tired of deadly adventures and decided to take a break, retiring from business and starting an affair, which began to grow into a family. But crime does not sleep, and Ethan could refuse a new job, but his student is in mortal danger, and Ethan goes on a new assignment. It’s nice that the inimitable Tom Cruise continues to play the role of Ethan Hunt, to introduce anyone else in his place somehow do not want. The role of the main antagonist went to Philip Seymour Hoffman, and the actor coped with his role on "excellent" (eternal memory). Arms dealer Owen Davian is difficult to detect and catch, his power is unlimited, but Ethan manages to do the impossible and detain the criminal, but this is not enough, and the villain is again at large. On top of all this, he is captive to his beloved Ethan, who once again will have to go through a series of deadly dangerous adventures: what he knows how to do best. It was nice to see in the third part of the old partner Ethan Luther (Wing Rhames), as well as new characters performed by Lawrence Fishburne and Simon Pegg.
The visual component of the film cannot but please the eye, special effects and scenery at height. Despite the fact that in each new part of the films “Mission Impossible” different directors, each next part does not become worse than the previous ones, and does not fall into the sad statistics of sequels and triquels, although, perhaps, the change of directors and goes to the picture for good.
In general, watching the third part of “Mission Impossible”, as well as the previous parts – a complete pleasure, skip this film, both fans of the genre and ordinary viewers, is not worth it, personally I received the maximum dose of good mood and positive emotions.
Each part, as a separate work of mass cinema - And there is an explanation for this. Only the best directors on the planet and are always different. One of the best action film teams in the world. Attention to the past parts of the franchise and a look into the future. The most beautiful planet of the 90s and zeros. He's the ultimate protagonist. Close attention to the permanent chips of the franchise and the team of the main character. Missions in the most important and brightest corners of the planet. The unchanging title musical theme. A permanent end. One of the most famous spy film franchises of the planet in its entire history.
The presence of the most spectacular team in the history of the saga, the most starry; presence in the most popular points of the planet; the introduction of the most successful and distinctive color filters; the leadership of the J. J. Abrams; constant patronage Cruz and Wagner; during the most iconic peak (maturity) of beauty and sexuality in the life of a man (Cruz); under the unparalleled modern background; in the most memorable outfits and with the presence of the most beautiful love drama in the history of this long, already third story - these, in my opinion, are the secrets of the success of this best film of all, at the moment, five (up to August 16).
“Mission” again does not go backwards, does not repeat itself, but moves on, under a completely different beginning and completely similar goals, not forgetting the main details of the past. This is one of the most important things to do.
I don't know, maybe starving a full metre in a week or just for Cruz on the screen, I just ate everything I saw in front of me. I haven’t seen it for a long time.
Because there was something to eat.
First of all, I notice more than ever that the late Philip Seymour Hoffman is already excellent in his incarnation. It’s not that big, but what a charisma! What a look! What an impact! Cruz. He's just the best. But there is a similar parallel, like Bale and the Joker. As talented and central as the Briton was in the film, the late American overshadowed him. And although Cruz is literally in every frame, his talent, workaholism and charm have not gone away, but Seymour Hoffman is even more monstrous in his greatness. It's undeniable.
J. J. Abrams for the first time in the history of the series gave to the love drama, perhaps the main role. Michelle Monahan at the time did not look like the girl from the cover, which was a slight shock to me, namely the selection of her for the main girlfriend, but I understand this as Abrams’ desire to bring Hunt’s life on the other side of the work closer to reality. They say that his bride is beautiful, but not too beautiful.
For the first time, Simon Pegg appears, who is destined to become the main humorous starter of subsequent films. Wing Raims, as an honorary mastodon, and the faithful symbol of Hunt is also here. Add short-term with a visit, no less spectacular and famous Crudup and Reese Myers, as well as the Asian charm Maggie Q. And we will complete the list of all the star and main already traditional brutal-chief cameo, this time, Lawrence Fishburne, whose leadership in the spy organization, in my, again subjective opinion, is closer and more necessary to him than Maestro Morpheus himself.
... Well, a mini-bonus note from me - twice in the frame the future star of "Breaking Bad" and partner in the future series Monahan - almost a sticker (and then) Aaron Paul. It’s even thinner and younger.
I paid such close attention to all these stars. After all, they are all primarily decorated in the literal sense of the word the whole film and this is really very important for the film!
Beauty in the rest... Achieved by the grandeur and beauty of Rome and Shanghai and the States. An important role was played by colors and shades, which bring almost to... perfect pleasure from what you saw.
Everything familiar (masks, dressing up, chases, flights, explosions, shootings, computer hacks, the title theme) and beautiful (listed more than once in paragraphs above) is supplemented by the first plan of the same love line between Cruz and Monahan, which is invisible thread goes through and not forgotten almost the entire film. I don't want to describe her. You have to feel it. Because the drama just goes off the charts. And this time I saw exactly what was in the original voiceover.
The combination of tragedy in love, the influence of Seymour Hoffman and the magnificence of Cruise, under the filling of the beauty of everything and everyone, makes me with great pleasure to put only one assessment. And that is the most banal. "Ten."
The picture of J.J. Abrams does not really want to be only a spy fighter and strongly gravitates to fiction. 150 million allow Jay to go to the first space, straight to Star Trek. The scale of the destruction of the surrounding world is unacceptable for secret agents, making them ordinary heroes of militants. Helicopters, drones, rockets are used, cars and houses are sent to take off, and on the other side of the scale of this pyrotechnic chaos - just Hunt's wife.
Yes, the savior of the world now has a wife. And instead of jumping, shooting and running, instead of playing biceps and triceps, he relies on facial muscles too. Hunt's face is now full of angry and desperate masks, replacing latex ones.
The director of "L.O.S.T.A." doesn't screw up like Brian De Palma, but scores a nail like John Wu. The film is not sharp as the first part, not beautiful as the second, but eerily effective and fantastic. But the fantastic visual series is strung not on the internal disassembly of spies, not on the threat of destroying the world, but only on Hunt’s personal vendetta. Perhaps this contrast and bribes in the film Abrams.

I first saw this movie commercial on TV back in 2006, and those few seconds were a real impression. After watching the first and second “Mission” with pleasure, I expected the third part to be even more spectacular and interesting. I was not disappointed!
Tom Cruise is one of my favorite actors. Of all the films with his participation, I really liked: “Minority Opinion”, “The Last Samurai”, “War of the Worlds” and, of course, a series of films about special agent Ethan Hunt called “Mission Impossible”. Of all the "Missions..." I stopped my review on the third part. In my opinion, it is quite successful, because it is a remarkable story about how Ethan Hunt, having decided to marry his lover and temporarily retired, is forced to head a group of special agents again to pull his former student Lindsey Ferris from the hands of the insidious and cruel terrorist Owen Davian.
Deviane was played, unfortunately, by actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. He played the main antagonist very reliably, for example, I liked the scene in which Davian interrogates Ethan Hunt, sitting on a chair and bound, while simultaneously threatening his fiancée with a gun. The scene was very intense and intriguing.
Among other actors, I want to note the beautiful and charming Maggie Q and the big guy Ving Rhames, playing agents from the team of Ethan Hunt.
In addition to acting and plot, I liked the shootouts, spy tricks, for example, artificial masks, which are one of the features of all films about agent Ethan Hunt and, of course, music written by composer Michael Giacchino.
To sum up, I can say that this film is one of the best action thrillers with Tom Cruise to date.

Well, what can I say? The third film about Ethan Hunt was much better than the previous part. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the sequel has become less snotty, however, JJ Abrams played a great credit in this.
The plot of the film again revolves around the CIA superagent, who, over time, became much more mature, and in this regard, somewhat loosened his grip: love appeared in his life, partly he lost his sense of smell, because he considered that he very successfully pulled off a secret operation with colleagues in the heart of Europe, he was in disgrace, surrounded by his own, who became enemies, and enemies who were never his own.
Hunt again will face a cruel villain, whose glassy look and frightening calm will make everyone fidget nervously in a chair or try to cross the road, only from afar noticing his figure.
It is the villain, whose image was embodied by Philip Seymour Hoffman (let the earth rest on him), is one of the most striking figures not only in this film, but in the entire franchise. At the mention of the third part, it is always the image of Hoffman that pops up in memory - when he, like a wizard, flies away in a helicopter.
The film released by Abrams with confidence can be considered both spectacular and cleverly shot. Even despite the fact that the viewer does not see a more detailed preparation for the implementation of any operation, for example, in Rome or Shanghai (there, in general, showed only the final part of the operation), Mission 3 does not lose its meaning and interest.
I am glad that the film turned out to be quite tough – each of the action scenes was shot quite realistically, and most importantly, believable. This was lacking in the second film and indirectly refers to the first - to that episode with the helicopter, train and tunnel.
Another significant plus is the cast. He's great in every movie, he's great. Cruz, Raims – permanent participants of the first films received the above Hoffman, the favorite of almost all girls Jonathan Reese Myers, Simon Pegg, Billy Crudup, Lawrence Fishburne, Maggie Q, Michelle Monaghan and Kerry Russell.
The fact that the viewer is constantly languishing at the question of what is this “rabbit foot” – a mini-thermonuclear bomb, a terrible virus or anthrax spores, adds a certain mystery to the film, because walking along with Ethan Hunt on the trail of a madman, another one who decided to bring the world to its knees, is more interesting than learning everything from the very beginning and witnessing the next film-chase-fight.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
“A man’s character can be judged by the way he treats those whom he does not need to treat well.”
Let the spy thriller “Mission: Impossible 2” to a greater extent and did not justify the hopes of fans of the franchise, but its results in the world box office could not but please the producers, among whom is also the lead actor Tom Cruise. Considering it expedient to take a break from the adventures of Ethan Hunt for a while, Cruise deepened cooperation with the best directors of our time, honing his acting skills in the projects of Michael Mann and Steven Spielberg. Each new appearance of Tom on the big screens was accompanied by a natural success, because not only the audience, but also critics consider him not just a pretty, but a truly talented person. Considering that enough time had passed and it was possible to begin the triumphant return of Mission: Impossible, Tom Cruise went headlong into the development of the project, which in fact turned out to be a difficult task. Repeated rewriting of the script, the scandalous change of directors, the shift in the timing of production and premiere, as well as well-known details of the actor’s personal life, almost costing him his reputation, almost undermined the expected triquel. But what has to happen is bound to happen. "Mission: Impossible 3" engaged in his bosom debutant in full meter J.J. Abrams, the creator of several iconic television series, thanks to which he made a name for himself as a skilled and knowledgeable in the tempting stories of the filmmaker. For the first time “Mission: Impossible” was in the hands of a director who came to a big movie from the world of small screens. And this circumstance not only did not worsen the quality of the franchise, but even allowed it to rise to a new level of quality, especially when comparing the third film with the absurd craftsmanship of John Wu. J.J. Abrams made the adventures of Ethan Hunt as a meaningful kaleidoscope of unimaginable adventures that look in one breath and are taken for granted. "Mission: Impossible 3" boasts healthy humor, believable drama and the necessary amount of fiction, for which we love the Tom Cruise franchise. And even though the box office figures of Abrams’s tape turned out to be an order of magnitude lower than the bosses of the Paramount pictures studio expected, nevertheless, it is a perfect continuation of an intriguing series of films, the end of which was still very early.
As for the plot, this time Ethan Hunt (Cruz) needs to capture the international arms dealer Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who has repeatedly left the field of view of the world’s leading intelligence agencies. For the Khant, the capture of Davian is a matter of honor, since the criminal caused the death of the best student of the agent. No one can forgive such things. In detail, the developed operation turns out to be successful only at first. Inspired by success, Hunt and his loyal group of comrades led by Luther Stickell (Wing Rhames) triumphantly return home with a valuable captive unaware that real nightmares only await them. Davian's threats are not a simple sound. Everything he threatens his enemies comes true, and in the most terrible form. From now on, Ethan Hunt can no longer be confident in himself, because his closest, loved one, falls under the direct blow of Devian.
With J.J. Abrams coming to direct, Mission: Impossible departs from the narrative style imposed on the franchise by Brian De Palma and John Wu. Unlike the first films, "Mission: Impossible 3" leans towards an entertaining action movie, unencumbered by unnecessary reasoning. You can forget about the attempts of Cruz and the company to play in the territory of a sophisticated spy action movie, nurtured in the 60s and 70s, and, fortunately, we will no longer see the absurd visual delights and annoying choreography that came directly from Asian action films. Abrams tried to make his film keep pace with the times, not wanting to return to morally outdated techniques. And this step refreshed the franchise, while making it a direct continuation of the past parts. The third "Mission: Impossible" does not abandon the popularly beloved first film, nor the artistically failed second. It borrows all the best from them, binding to the new realities that came with the early 2000s. Considering that excessive seriousness in the adventures of Ethan Hunt is not necessary, but we should not forget about the drama, the director was able to find a middle ground in the presentation of the material. On the one hand, the film boasts a surprisingly large amount of pertinent humor, for which Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg are responsible. And Cruz himself is not averse to becoming the object of a couple of comedy sketches that do not go beyond what is allowed, one hundred can not but delight. However, the story was not without intense drama, which you want to believe, unlike the artificial experiences presented in the franchise earlier. Finally, the hero without fear and reproach, the best of the best operative of the Impossible Missions Department, Ethan Hunt, appears before the viewer in an informal atmosphere. From now on, he has someone to worry about with all his heart and this makes the plot sharp.
The main difference between Mission: Impossible 3 is the fact that the main character moves away from active field actions and concentrates on the work of a coach in his native organization. This allows Hunt to ponder his future, which is the seat of the charming Julia (Michelle Monaghan). J.J. Abrams isn't shy about showing us Ethan Hunt's idyll where he can be himself. Opening him as the most ordinary person, who is not alien to the joys of ordinary people, the filmmakers make their audience believe that the hero is not invulnerable. A lot of screen time is given to just the relationship of Ethan and Julia. We see in all colors what can happen in the life of a security officer when he decides to settle down, but the ghosts of the past do not retreat from him so easily. The Cruz-Monahan duo look quite organic. You can believe in the sincere love of their characters without any problems. “Mission: Impossible” has acquired a vitality that will continue to strike in it. And all the skeptics who do not believe in the talent of debutant Abrams were ashamed. You can't say otherwise.
Another advantage of the film is a magnificent villain performed by the inimitable dramatic artist Philip Seymour Hoffman. His Owen Davian is not outwardly a threat. The slightly chubby, round-faced middle-aged man looks more like a teacher than a dangerous international villain. However, when Hoffman is given the opportunity to reveal his character in all its glory, it becomes more clear than ever that any appearance is deceptive. Davian spares no one, worrying only about the success of his own organization. For him there are no restrictive signs, he does not tolerate power over his person. You believe in his threats. And the worst thing is that it is really scary.
In the end, I want to say that Mission: Impossible 3 was a long-awaited rebirth for the battered franchise. Tom Cruise proved that he, like Ethan Hunt, is still very early to be written off. So the mission continues, even if it seems impossible!

The previous part left indelible impressions, so much so that to release the next one on the screens, it took six years and a new, unblemished director, ready to stand at the helm of the project, which must be raised from the floor, shake off the dirt, wash, dress, comb, brush your teeth, give a gloss and present to the audience. A similar transformation a year earlier took place with Batman, only in this case did not have to change the characters. (By the way, if you do all this with a person, you get Tom Cruise.) Oh, sorry, I mean, Tom Steel Eggs Cruz. How lucky he is the face of the whole series. )
To the average viewer, the director of the third mission JJ Abrams was known mainly as the curator of LOST, so the feelings for such a candidacy, at least mine, were ambiguous: on the one hand, the interesting approach presented in the series could fit here and show the franchise from a slightly different angle, but, unlike the previous film, with a plus sign, on the other hand, there was a fear of excessive drama for a spy film, which looked well on a mysterious island, but in these conditions would probably not be by the way. And besides, it was a directorial debut in the genre of a feature film for Abrams, which means that it is clear what to expect even less.
And what the hell was that? This is what was required of the second part. There's everything missing here. There is no sagging action, there is a wonderful villain, a little betrayal and, of course, a ton of all sorts of gadgets (but not in the style of Bond of the sample of the pre-Craig period, which in all the holes for an unimaginable thing that will certainly help him, as if he were a bloody animated Willie Fogh, and those in which you can really believe). First of all, it finally showed the production of the mask, how it works in general and how it is put on, not just removed. There is also a great detail on how to get the voice of the desired object.
Next. The villain. Philip Seymour Hoffman, from the appearance of which you do not expect anything but good nature or dullness, as in his characters from the films "Smell of a Woman" and "Healer Adams", betrays such inflexibility in look and actions that even Bender will not be able to straighten. It feels like a power with which Ethan Hunt, with all his tricks, can do nothing.
The secondary cast in the form of Jonathan Reese Myers, Billy Crudup, the immensely respected Lawrence Fishburne, and of course Simon Pegg, fits perfectly. Even for Eddie Marsan there was a small place. Wing Rhames is like this. Everything is in its place, and complete the picture, not spoiling it.
A similar situation with episode-tasks. Each task is not a repetition of the previous one, but is different from the others, and is very different. Each time we are transferred to another country, given a completely new specificity and thrown into the dynamic. JJ perfectly knows the balance between action, mystery (what is the moment when we learn what is "rabbit foot"), sad and joyful events - episodes do not tire, changing and alternating in time. It doesn't smell monotonous. Despite the fact that in general everything is quite prosaic, the material is bonded together so that you can not stick to it. The same main villain, it seems, is unremarkable, but one hundred percent hit with an actor and a healthy motivation without the scum of world domination work wonders.
A breath of air that raised the franchise to the level of the first part (if not higher), but at the same time showed itself in a slightly different genre and from a slightly different side.
Paradoxically, the fact is that the second film “Mission: Impossible” was able to surpass the first film at the box office, despite the fact that as a film in general and as an action movie in particular, it was extremely weak. And then the producers realized that they had found two components of success. First of all, watch movies about spies. The second is that the viewer loves Tom Cruise, and therefore is ready to go to the movies for any, even very weak films, just to see this actor’s body again. And if so, then you can invite an eminent person to the post of director, recruit famous actors as extras and voila - a cocktail is ready. Don't mess with your food. And the confirmation of my words will be our guest today, alas and ah.
It should be noted that the beginning of the film is intriguing. A bad man, performed by Philip Seymour Hoffman, tortures and tortures poor and unhappy hero Tom Cruise in every possible way, and then shoots a girl who means a lot to the hero of the picture. And this fragment refers us to the first part of the franchise, where the story was really unpredictable, the characters died with noticeable periodicity and even the life of Ethan Hunt hung in the balance. Well, it is understandable that immediately there is hope that the third film in the heat of passion will not yield to the original, and possibly surpass, because the director of the picture had previously worked on the series “Lost”, and there the heat of passion was serious. But soon you realize that your hopes will not come true. Reason? Oh, there are many. Where should I start? Come on, let's go down.
Heroes. Surprisingly, a little bit has passed since the release of the first film, and ten years and during this time Ethan Hunt lost all his charisma. He lost the character traits for which many viewers loved him. He ceased to be a clever, resourceful and brazen spy. A spy who is no more stupid than an ordinary spectator, and therefore he could already predict in advance who would try to betray him and take countermeasures on this occasion. In this picture, Ethan Hunt does not have the charm of a man whose one smile women faint and villains tear their hair. The hero of Tom Cruise in this film turned out to be absolutely cardboard. He's running, jumping and shooting, but he's got nothing to catch. Also, things are with the next beloved hero, who is not even able to play the most banal emotions, whether it is fear or joy, let alone something more. As a result, you do not worry about the fate of the girl. She's nothing. However, an empty place are the partners of the main character, of which there is no special benefit. So stand in the frame, reward the viewer with a look devoid of any emotion, occasionally put in the air, and the hero of Ving Rhames something to crack. But that’s not enough to treat them like the characters that a movie needs. And if a trinity of "assistants" To throw Hunt out of the picture, hardly anything has changed. Another is Simon Pegg's hero. Oh no, his character turned out to be no less cardboard than all the others, but Pegg is a great actor, and therefore he covers the scarcity of his character with gestures and emotions, replaying everything, in general, all the actors in this film. Not surprisingly, the fourth part will give him much more screen time. As for Philip Seymour Hoffman, I didn’t think I would say that, but I don’t have much information. After all, the actor is given to indecent little time, most of which he walks with an absolutely impenetrable face. Yes, this is part of the image, I understand, but it is not possible to imbue with sympathy / antipathy for the hero of Hoffman due to the fact that he was not allowed to properly reveal himself as a person.
All right, what about the action? It was all about him. Well, well, there's nothing good to see here either. Events, for the most part, will occur at night and it would be fine only this, so the screen is dominated by swamp tones, an abundance of glare, and with them the operator, who would have to unscrew his ears for a twitching image and a blurry picture. And the action scenes themselves turned out to be bland and uninteresting. Even a drone aircraft armed with missiles could not cause any emotions, except that the director was drawn to fiction.
Music? Nothing memorable and sometimes even creates the feeling that it is absent. Unless the central theme of the entire franchise pleases the ear, but it is not in the topic here, since there is nothing impossible in the film.
Plot? Oh, yeah, plot! He's next -- the bad guy is looking for something called Rabbit's Foot. As will be said later, this is a kind of biological weapon, but even screenwriters do not know how it works. The hero of Tom Cruise tries to detain him and simultaneously faces a conspiracy in the highest echelons of power. And the conspiracy is so banal that it was fitting to hang a sign on the traitor - I will throw everyone in the second half of the film. And if Ethan Hunt were true to himself from the first film, he would have cracked this conspiracy in the bud, but alas, the writers decided that the hero of Tom Cruise does not think with his head, but with his heart, and even then occasionally, and therefore we have an incomprehensible virus, a vague conspiracy and an extremely faded protagonist. It's a beautiful picture. The picture that was able to collect in the world box office four hundred million dollars and pave the way for the sequel. It's time to celebrate... probably.
Ethan Hunt has retired and decided to marry his girlfriend. A request for help comes from his former student. It turns out that she was following the powerful smuggler Owen Davian. The case is complicated when Davian kidnaps Ethan's girlfriend.
The third part of the franchise “Mission Impossible” came out slightly weak. Despite the fact that the film is directed by J.J. Abrams, the plot of the film is simple and secondary. The events of the film develop rapidly, but all the time does not leave the feeling that you, somewhere saw it all. In the new part there is a party with the kidnapping of the villain, Ethan easily returns to work, kidnapping the virus with a jump from the building and more. There is also a completely stupid scene with the interrogation of Davian, where the characters calmly show their faces, not afraid to tell about their identities to the villain, who is warned about as a very powerful person with connections. The villain in the new part came out the most memorable of the entire franchise. Philip Seymour Hoffman played charismatically and sinisterly through his brutality. Tom Cruise plays in the same way as in the previous parts, although he tries to play on emotions with his constant tears in the frame. As for the action, it is spectacular and beautiful in the picture. The firefight in the warehouse, the explosion of the bridge, a trip to Shanghai and running around the houses – all this looks interesting and pleases the eye throughout the film.
Verdict: the third part turned out to be the weakest in the entire franchise due to the secondary plot and the same hero Tom Cruise.
6.5 out of 10
Mission: Impossible 3 by J.J. Abrams Boring? Not really. Difficult? I bet you would. Spectacular? Wrong word. The main villain? Delicious! Plot? Well...
This “well” can explain my impressions of the film almost completely. Of course, in terms of drive and shooting in various locations, the third part is probably noticeably ahead of the first two. It is known that secret agents by definition can not have a family, but the plot added a favorite girl who later became the wife of Ethan Hunt. Take the example of James Bond, who does not need any marriage ties. And nothing clear came out with the mysterious “rabbit foot”. What is it? What is it for? Why was Owen Davian so furious, asking about her from Agent Hunt? JJ Abrams generally loves mystery. I remember the famous TV series "Lost", which was full of mysteries. Produced by "Monster". Super 8 didn’t make it clear who was in the container when the trailer came out. It seems that in this film, the director wanted to create “something” that would be questioned without stopping. I kind of got it. But I would rather know the truth.
In general, the third and fourth films can argue quite well, which one is the best. That’s exactly the part of the tricks of all kinds. In the third part there is an exciting “helicopter race” in the center for the extraction of wind energy, an incredible jump from the roof of one building to another roof, an “air” attack on the bridge while transporting the main villain. What Mr. Abrams can not deny is that he can shoot spectacular scenes. And for the level of blockbusters, this is just right.
Separately, I would like to mention the antagonist in the film. Why me, when almost most liked the character performed by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Again, there was a “disease” in the screenwriters, as they created not fully disclosed and template “badgy”. But the winner of the award "Oscar" took and presented the audience with an excellent villain. I got goosebumps on the skin of a walker during an episode on the plane when the team of Ethan Hunt captured Owen Devian. Answering the question, holding to horror confidently, he already then began psychologically to put pressure on the agent. I regret that I was frightened to hear what he was going to do to the beloved woman of the brave savior of the world. Choosing between the right, desperate and brave Ethan Hunt and the sinister, cruel and merciless Owen Devian, I doubt the clear advantage will be in favor of the former. It seems that the hero of Phillip Seymour Hoffman is the most striking antagonist in the entire franchise. I was very happy and scared.
It is worth noting familiar faces in the film. Here and Lawrence Fishburn, and Billy Crudup, and Jonathan Rees-Meyers, and Maggie Q, and Michelle Monahan, and Bahar Sumeh, and Eddie Marsan, and Simon Pegg. Reappears faithful companion Ethan Hunt - the character Wing Rhames. It’s time to say, ba, familiar faces!
You can recommend a viewing, of course. Fans of the genre will be universally delighted. I don’t think fans will appreciate the movie either. Who likes Tom Cruise, explosions, secrets from J.J. Abrams, the musical theme of the film, watch without hesitation. I wish you a pleasant viewing!
The answer under normal conditions: a great movie. I loved it!
The response under duress: I tell you so. It's a great movie! I liked it!
Another change of director led to inevitable changes in the franchise. But here J.J. Abrams needs to be credited. From the previous parts, he took only the best. Magnificently twisted spy intrigue from the first, even more impressive action than in the second part. And he seasoned it all with a romantic line. And not the one that is usually found in spy films about the same Bond, where every new film the main character has a new passion. Here, the story was told that if the heroine disappears from the next film, there will be many questions to the creators. Again, thanks to the romantic line, Ethan Hunt again becomes like a real person, of course, within the framework of the created universe. And not a punching superhero from the second part with an artificial set of feelings.
As for the main enemy, the creators did not disappoint here. The most brilliant and charismatic of the four films released so far. The one you're really afraid of. Philip Seymour Hoffman brilliantly coped with the role. Though small, but very important for revealing the character of the main character.
Well, J.J. wouldn't be himself if he hadn't brought in some of his signature stuff. At the very beginning of the film, we see a scene that normal directors (and that’s a compliment to Abrams) would only appear towards the end. And during the first half of the puzzle, what is this rabbit leg and what it is eaten with. And what in principle could be expected from the creator of the cult series LOST.
Finally, by the third film, the authors were able to find a balance between interesting intrigue, spectacular action and bright characters. J.J. Abrams took the franchise to a new, better level. The best Ethan Hunt movie ever made.
The triquel of the famous spy franchise, telling about special agent Ethan Hunt, was released after six years. In the director's chair sat down D.J. Abrams, for whom this picture became a full-length debut in the cinema, and his debut, to confess honestly, is one of the most commercially successful and artistically successful.
In this part of the picture, combining features and melodramas, Ethan Hunt will have to fight the most dangerous villain in the entire franchise - Owen Davian, who was brilliantly played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. Owen Davian is perhaps the best villain in the entire franchise, which is not a small credit to the talent of this actor.
Tom Cruise as always perfectly played Ethan Hunt, adding to the palette of his hero notes of drama and lyricism. Also very memorable characters played Jonathan Rhys-Myers, Michelle Monahan (cute Julia), charming Maggie Q and bright Billy Crudup, who played one of the key characters in the rapid plot of the tape.
The direction in the film is very powerful and memorable, and New York, Shanghai and the Vatican are shot by cameraman Daniel Meindel just fantastically beautiful.
Michael Giacchino wrote a very interesting and stunning soundtrack for the film, full of dramatic shimmering and true Hollywood epicity.
Mission: Impossible 3 is a great triquel to the famous franchise, which I recommend to all fans of quality action films.

“Mission Impossible 3” was the first directorial work of J.J. Abrams known for such successful television series as “Spy” and “Lost”. “Mission” not only became his long-awaited pass to the big cinema, but also proved Abrams’ competence in providing high-quality material in the framework of genre cinematography. The creator of the new “Star Trek”, the sequel of which should appear next year, managed in the literal sense of the word – to revive the “missionary” cycle, and to present the third series not only visually spectacular, but also quite poignantly and grindingly. Let me remind you that the previous part of “Mission” was quite coolly received by a large audience and various film critics, which forced many to treat the sequel very skeptically, but now we can safely say that the brainchild of Abrams certainly managed to bring the film series to the desired path. True, having in its asset a very weak budget of $ 150 million, in America, the picture barely paid off, but the total world fees were close to four hundred million, which is considered quite an acceptable result. Dynamic, spectacular and insanely fascinating tape is able to be remembered not only for its special-effectual and stunt delights, but also interesting plot decisions and cute conceptual moves.
In this part, the main character of the spy saga parted with operational work and engaged in the training of young cadets. Also, in his hectic life finally appears the second half, which he is going to marry in the near future. But Hunt's happy existence comes to an end when the agency summons him to a final case to free Lindsey Ferris, who is our hero's former student. Tracking the famous arms dealer Owen Davian, Lindsay learned a lot of interesting details related not only to the gangster himself, but also to some agents working for the CIA. Hunt failed to save his protégé, but this was only the first failure on the rather dangerous path of the hero, on which he will have to chase the world behind the mysterious “rabbit foot”, learn the betrayal of his colleagues, as well as experience terrible despair within himself regarding worries for the fate of his beloved person, whose life was insidiously put under threat.
Despite the fact that most viewers and critics agree that the most successful picture of this film cycle is its first part, I personally believe that the third Mission is more exciting than its predecessors. Even the latest “Phantom Protocol” is relatively lightweight and conceptual coherence, in my opinion, inferior to the tape of Abrams. Mission Impossible 3 is good on almost every side. It lacks the dullness of the first series, the pretentiousness of the second and the languor of the fourth. Abrams competently calculated all the plot moves, visual style and the overall rhythm of the narrative, eventually creating a rather high-quality and interesting blockbuster. Yes, his picture looks more like an expensive action movie than a spy thriller in its pure form, which was seen in the original film by De Palma, in which the main emphasis was not on entertainment, but on the intricacies of the missions themselves. But any film series has the right to evolve: the main thing is for the better. And besides, all these “missionary” trouts are absolutely not lost – just recall the stunning episode in Rome, in which Ethan and his team were to catch Owen Davian along with his mysterious “rabbit foot”. Just in this series, the proprietary techniques of the cycle were paid less attention than exciting action scenes, which many movie fans did not have to taste, but these scenes looked not only spectacular, but also insanely organic. And on top of that, special effects, for the sake of special effects, which is observed in almost every second summer blockbuster, there is also no – everything is in place.
Each series of “Mission” is famous for the fact that its shooting is conducted in different parts of the world, where the authors create spectacular and large-scale action scenes. The third, in this regard, was no exception: in New York were filmed chic episodes with a helicopter chase in the middle of long windmills, as well as a juicy shootout in the locations of an abandoned building, where Ethan and his group rescued the captured agent, in the Vatican, no less chic scene with the capture of Davian, which was already written a little above, and in Shanghai, just incomparable fragments on the roofs of skyscrapers, in which our hero performed unthinkable tricks that amaze the imagination. Yes, we are talking about his jump first with a cable, and then with a parachute. And then, again, with the naked eye, you can see how Abrams tries to fill the Mission assigned to him with all the necessary components for the series, because the stunt episodes in the cycle are far no less in demand by the audience than the thoughtful missionary moves. Thus, this picture, in the context of the spy saga looks absolutely filled and verified, and I have to once again shout Abrams – bravo! The cast here is also endlessly happy, and if everything is clear with Cruise, because in the role of Hunt he has already pretty much been trained and looked as usual organically, then Philip Seymour Hoffman in the villainous image of Owen Davian pleasantly surprised. In my opinion, the actor managed to play the best negative character in the history of “Missions” – an amazing reincarnation!
P.S. I don’t know, maybe my caring attitude to the director JJ Abrams, each film of which for me is a small cinematic masterpiece, but the third “Mission” in my purely subjective view is the most competently balanced, fascinating and spectacular in the whole “missionary” film cycle. The tape looks literally in one breath and disposes to repeatedly return to it again, and meanwhile, Abrams, is even more firmly fixed in my personal list of favorite directors and most likely will always come!
9 out of 10
Disappointed in the second part, I did not hope for the success of the third. Thank God the director changed. And not just anyone, but J. J. Abrams, who shot a new Star Trek and gave the world the famous Lost! Such a director simply could not make a bad movie.
Plot
What is a rabbit's foot? Top secret weapon? A virus of mass destruction? Documents Compromising the World Government? Be that as it may, Ethan Hunt must get her in 2 days to save his wife Julia from the largest arms dealer-illegal Owen Davian. He is assisted by a proven partner and friend Luther and two new agents Declan and Zen. Things are complicated by the fact that the team is looking for special services, because Ethan is again suspected of illegal activities.
Finally a good story and a great implementation! Action, turns of events, fights, chases, shootouts, changing clothes - all played at the highest level! And even the romantic side of the plot is not sugary as it was in part 2. You can see the hand of the master! Abrams made a great action movie. Bravo, maestro!
Actors
Tom Cruise is still invincible and all-powerful. Running, overtaking cars, jumping from a 30-story building, not thinking about the consequences - it's certainly wonderful. But the scene where they try to shake out information unknown to him, putting the barrel of a gun to his wife's head ... It shows that Ethan Hunt is scared - he could lose her. And no skill will help. Aerobatics!
Vince Raims is Luther Stickell. Just like 10 years ago – still in shock, ready to cover for Ethan and go after him to the end of the world – a real partner!
Young agents Declan and Zen - performed by Jonathan Rees-Myers and Maggie Q - coped perfectly. And they fight, and shoot, and amicably care for Julia. It was particularly touching that they went against the agency's orders for the happiness of one of the agents.
Philip Seymour Hoffman - as the main villain, good - although a scoundrel, but very well played - especially in the interrogation scene - not everyone can portray anger so naturally.
Small roles have Michelle Monaghan (Julia) – a sweet girl, Ethan’s wife, Simon Pegg (Benji) – an electronic humorist, and Lawrence Fishborne (Theodore Brassell) – Ethan’s harsh boss, whose role is very ambiguous throughout the film.
The result was a great action movie that deserves the highest praise!
Long-running franchises have become the most profitable properties for any producer or director. After all, there is no point in creating a new and risky project when you can shoot a continuation of an already successful franchise. That’s just practice shows that the longer the franchise, the same quality of sequels noticeably decreases. So after a fairly decent criticism of the sequel to the franchise, it is not surprising that a third of the franchise had to wait about 6 years. When the directors and performers of secondary roles changed, but as it turned out, Tom Cruise was not ready to say goodbye to his production gold mine and the film was released under the direction of JJ Abrams. JJ can be safely called the dark horse of Hollywood, which appeared on the Hollywood Olympus very unexpectedly and was able to linger due to its unique style.
It is encouraging that to some extent it fits perfectly with the concept of tape. Since unlike the sequel, where there was not even a hint of spy passions, this film tried to return to the framework of a spy thriller. Due to this, the director mainly focused on the tension and severity of the project. Which stylized the film as a real spy thriller. That's just wanting to create in addition to this and commercially promising product, the creators tried in vain to mix the genres of spy thriller and action blockbuster. Since such a mixture has become a source of a kind of instability of the project in genre characteristics. From here, the film seems to be a spy thriller, but it has too many sentimental snot that is distracting. It would seem that a real action blockbuster is developing on the screen, but the lack of entertaining spirit and a small amount of spectacle again does not allow you to look at this film as an action movie.
The film created a fairly average feeling. When watching the film even seems pretty, but after watching the tape you understand that the film has a fair number of shortcomings. After all, without the luxurious visual effects from the masters of Industrial Light and Magic and a couple of action scenes (the action scene on the post and landing on the roof of a Chinese company is just a bomb), the film would have turned out much worse. That’s why this film stands out perhaps worse than all the films in the franchise. Since taking the same attitude, the director of the fourth part brought to mind all the plans of this tape and concocted really the best part of the franchise. When like this, alas JJ could not make up for the irregularity of the picture.
It is nice that the script was created by the famous duo Roberto Orsi and Alex Kurtzman, who are famous for their original and really strong ideas. Only here, the framework and rules of the franchise did not allow Roberto and Alex to recoup to the fullest. Because, in truth, the plot is reflected in the combination of the most notable moments of the previous two tapes. On the one hand, the film is dominated by the spy component, which is reflected in the hunt for a dangerous villain and a mystical “rabbit foot”. That’s where the creators really came up with something brilliant. Since they managed to link the plot around it is unclear what. Even the characters themselves do not know what it is and as a result, we do not even get an answer about it ourselves. So the plot revolves around "nothing" and it's genius.
That's just the sharpness and whirlwind of unexpected turns, which was in the first tape, alas, there is no here. On the other hand, seizing the melodramatic character in the sequel to the tape, the creators decided to develop it to the threshold of married life. That on the one hand allowed us to look again with different eyes at the hero who has changed a lot and is forced to hide his personal life from his beloved. On the other hand, sometimes family values and snotty sentimentality was so much that the film began to turn into a real soap opera and it went clearly not to the benefit of the spy component of the tape. So we see a perfect example of a script for the series. When the plot is clearly divided into several parts, each of which is worthy of a separate film.
With all due respect to Tom Cruise, he played very poorly. It seemed that Tom was just betting on his appearance and thought that it was enough to pull out the role. As a special game, I did not notice and it is pathetic. Because Tom could be better. Much more vividly looks the main villain in the performance of the genius Phillip Seymour Hoffman. There are rumors about selectivity in choosing the roles of Phillip and this only highlights the seriousness of Phillip’s intentions. Since Phillip here played so luxuriously and strongly that you involuntarily begin to wish him victory, rather than all the positive characters of the picture. And in truth, Phillipa created the most brilliant and dangerous villain of the entire franchise. Wing Rhames, Jonathan Reese Meyers and Simon Pegg played just great. No words. When both Billy Crudup and Lawrence Fishburne played flat and monotonously. The female half of the picture in the face of Michel Monaghan, Keri Russell and Maggie Q coped just fine. Since they managed not only to give a competitive game, but also to impress with their attractive appearances. Especially Maggie, whom I've been crazy about for a long time.
The music of the composer of the film Michael Giacchino turned out to be quite heavy. Separate from the film, listening to it is difficult because of its severity. When the background of the tape, so heavy and heavy music looked identical. Because the film itself sinned with the same thriller severity as the music. In general, this is the rare case when the music looks identical against the background of the tape, but alas, it does not cause much delight. After all, even the main theme of the tape Michael did not bring any changes. As if afraid that he will spoil the genius creation of Lalo Shifrin.

An ordinary and empty summer blockbuster. Where the amount of spectacle is clearly not enough and especially delight it does not cause alas. Not up to a spy thriller, not up to an action blockbuster, which at the first viewing looks good. When, as in the second, there is a very double impression. Whether you want to watch the movie or not, decide for yourself.
It has been 10 years since the release of the first part of the spy saga. J.J. Abrams took over the production. It is now known that from any material can make a candy, and then he had only LOST (also a very weighty argument in favor of choosing JJ). JJ faced a very difficult task - it was necessary to somehow revive the franchise after the failed second part (thanks to John Wu). And Abrams did it 110% -- the third part was the most nuanced, realistic, spectacular.
Special thanks to Philip Hoffman - his Owen Davian turned out to be the most serious and charismatic opponent of Hunt of all three films. Hunt has never been hit before - his wife is kidnapped, an explosive device is in his head, he needs to steal an unknown weapon, agents from Langley suspect him of losing composure and announce a hunt for him. The whole world turned against Hunt, the good, the faithful team does not turn away from him and helps in any way they can.
There are many effects in the film, and they are all performed at the highest level. Drone scenes on the bridge, Lamborghini explosion, Shanghai brawl. There are a lot of tricks with masks here, and finally they show how these masks are made. Personally, I was interested. The picture looks easy and interesting, and what pleases, the action is not prolonged, but ends exactly when you need it. With timekeeping, the creators hit the bull’s eye.
Very interesting, lively film, full of drive and action. The latter exceeds even the first part. The only question that remained after viewing is what is a rabbit's foot. Probably something very dangerous, if it costs about 850 million euros. But the creators left the question open, so it all depends on the imagination of the viewer.
"Mission: Impossible 3" was released during a period of loud statements from the most famous and wealthy studios in Hollywood about the start of work with many famous hits for their continuation. One of these was the third part of the popular franchise.
Tom Cruise gave his consent to participate, decided to extend and loved by many hero Wing Rams, without changing the actor. Now Ethan Hunt (if anyone does not remember, then he is played by Tom Cruise) in the pre-wedding bustle, he retired, completely switching to training young agents and his best student (Kery Russell) gets into trouble and Ethan again has to get into the game, forgetting, however, to warn his bride (Michelle Monaghan) and thereby brought her great danger from the international terrorist (Philip Seymour Hoff), who clearly has a relationship with Hunt.
In general, the plot is not painted as it was in the previous two parts, still there were more characteristically written characters, and each storyline strictly followed the set goal, without deviating from the main structure. And here, as we see, there are already other lines that almost fit into the straight action Mission: Impossible. So, a little expanded our horizons, introduced that Hunt is not alien to anything human ... and sent into a fight with a terrible enemy.
In brightness and dynamism, the third part is also inferior to its predecessors, although many films declared as blockbusters would be envious of what we were shown.
Also remembering the first two parts, then come to mind brilliant action scenes in the final pictures, but here a little changed accents and suddenly the most powerful scene is in the first thirty minutes, when Hunt and his team made an attempt to save the captured agent.
The music was not very clear. Here it only overlapped with the general perception, but did not cause emotions at all.
In general, all fans of the franchise and real action film will have to taste, the rest can get saturation from the drive with special effects and tricks and whether it likes or not, then decide when you watch.

P.S.: I would like to note that Philip Seymour Hoffman turned out to be the most dangerous and insidious enemy.
I don’t know why, but it was the third part of Mission: Impossible that I wanted to see the most. And not even the best sequel was able to reduce my interest in Mission: Impossible 3. After the second part of the franchise, which I currently consider the worst of the entire trilogy, you could expect absolutely anything from the triquel, but to my luck, Mission: Impossible-3 turned out to be much better than the sequel, and in terms of dynamics, action and entertainment, it may even surpass the first part.
As for the action and entertainment, in this film all this was really at a fairly high level, there was almost no time to get bored. Throughout the film, the action scenes changed well into calmer scenes, and it all looked pretty good. All the shootouts and chases were done very well and looked very interesting and spectacular, which gave the film another plus.
The director of this film was again another director. This time the director's chair went to J.J. Abrams. For him, “Mission: Impossible-3” was the debut in directing and therefore before watching the picture I had some concerns as a film, but as we see everything cost and Jay Abrams managed to make the film very well, since the direction of the film is not inferior to the previous parts.
As in the previous two films in the franchise, the main role again went to Tom Cruise. He was able to play his character very well again. Although unlike the sequel in this film, I think he managed to do it even better.
I also liked Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played the role of the main villain of the film. He played his character very well and made him quite memorable.
I would also like to mention Simon Pegg. Honestly, before watching the film, I expected his character to be much more in terms of screen time, but even during the time that Simon was on the screen, he was able to make his character quite funny and interesting.
In addition, Meggy Q, Wing Rhames, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Reese Meyers and Lawrence Fishburne were remembered.
I would also like to mention the soundtrack in this film. In my opinion, the music in the film was selected and written very well, and perfectly displayed everything that was happening on the screen.
Bottom line: a very good triquel to Mission: Impossible, and many people may disagree with me, but in my opinion, this is the only trilogy film that can compete with the original. But that could change after the fourth installment of the franchise. So let's wait and see.
