I have been planning to watch the movie for a long time. Sometime since 2012, a year before I became a fan of Katherine. But it didn't. Until the last thought that this tape is a recording of a concert as part of the tour “California Dreams”. No, it's not him. That's better.
The film is divided into two parts - the tour and its backstage and various interviews. We are shown conversations with relatives, what it looks like to assemble the stage, prepare costumes, rehearsals for Perry herself, fragments with her fans, flights. Literally speaking, for half an hour you immerse yourself in the life of Katy Perry and like living a few days with her.
Part of Me contains a lot of things that ordinary people don’t know about the singer. For example, her religious relatives, who forbade her many things. The fact that she started with Christian rock (by the way, her first album Katy Hudson deserves attention), how she did not lose faith in God, but began to do what she felt was necessary.
The era of Teenage Dream is not my favorite, everything is sweet, and Katie herself looks like an eternally perfect and brilliant Barbie. But that's where you see her real - the way she interacts with fans, the way she experiences a breakup, her interactions with loved ones. The mask of the “sweet girl” falls off her and you see her, Catherine Hudson, without unnecessary tinsel.
If you love this singer, you’ll love it even more. If you are disliked, you are 99% likely to change your mind.

Falling in love with Katy Perry in an hour and a half
To begin with, this documentary did not provide me with pleasant additional information about the not-so-previously-known singer Katy Perry. No, no! And not even a movie that can be described with something like this phrase: “Yes, a really good documentary, you can advise some fan.” No, this film is something more to me, this film became my revelation.
When I watched it for the first time, I wasn’t a big fan of Katie, and I knew a lot of popular and not-so-her songs from “Firework” to “Who Am I Living For?” I didn’t care who she was, where she came from or how she got on stage. I just liked her voice, her way of singing, her looks. This is what prompted me to watch this movie. And after all, I did not expect anything from watching this work, but received emotions that I cannot forget to this day. No film, and especially in such a seemingly dry genre as "documentary" could not, and could not give me such a "Wow" effect as "Part of Me".
Here's the thing. Now that I am a fan of her work, and Katie in general, I can tell you with certainty that very little is said in this film, but how well does the expression of A. P. Chekhov “ Briefness is the sister of talent” fit here. You just can’t imagine how cool the whole movie is. In general, it can be divided into 2 large components. The first is the California Dreams tour itself, and the second is an interview with anyone you can, from Katie herself to her stylist Johnny Woodjack. All! These are all components of this film. But again, how cool is it all "glued together"
Let me take a couple of good examples.
When it comes to the fact that Katie had very difficult periods in life, the frame smoothly switches to the tour with the song "Who Am I Living For?" When it comes to the unfortunate end of Russell and Katie's marriage, we are shown "The One That Got Away." Or at the end of the day, when Katherine says she feels like everything in her life is going to get better and everything is going to be okay. Guess what's going on? That's right! "Firework!" God, I don’t know who came up with this brilliant technique, but it worked just perfectly on me.
And most importantly, in those moments, you realize that Katie wasn't lying when she said she was writing songs about her life. And how cool it is when, after realizing this fact, you start looking for her own personal life in her other songs, and you really find her!
This diva becomes not just your favorite singer, she becomes your best friend, you think that you know everything about her. It just blows your brain, prompting you to look for more and more information about it, so you can get even closer together. I became a fan of Katy Perry.
The same technique of not wearing makeup on her at certain moments works hurrah. Now girls can not go out of the house to the store without making up. And then the world star appears before you in a form that is allowed to see only the best friend. And with a smile on his face, he says, "Hi,i'm Katy Perry."
In general, the film is aimed at making you and Katy become best friends, and to put it bluntly, to attract new and new audiences to the name Katy Perry. It is this factor that decides whether you like the movie or not. If you’re already a fan of Katie and you’re only watching documentaries to improve your knowledge, you’re likely to be disappointed. Include an interview, it will give you more answers to your questions.
Well, in general, I advise you not to expect absolutely nothing from the film, because this is how you will be born real, true emotions and feelings
And in my humble opinion, Catherine Elizabeth Hudson is the girl who can make you fall in love for an unhappy hour and a half.

When I found out that this documentary would not be available in the Russian box office, I was very disappointed. I’ve always liked Katie, not only as a singer, but I didn’t know much about her biography (and didn’t want to be flattered by Wikipedia), so I waited for dedicated fans who know English to subtitle. Now for the movie itself.
From the very first minutes, I was hooked to pain by familiar songs that I unwittingly sang along. And this atmosphere of preparation... Such outfits, such ideas! I just wanted to go to one of her concerts at that point.
Is that a friendly relationship with everyone? This “tradition” is to gather in a circle. She's so good! In such a friendly team and I would like to work.
Then she'll know her past. Love to sing and write lived in her since childhood, and to become a star helped only tenacious struggle for a place in the sun. After suffering setbacks, she kept trying to find a studio that would accept her for who she was. “Who am I living for?”, “Who am I living for?”
Next up is Russell. Honestly, I was shocked when I found out she was marrying him. They've met so little. But as it turned out, it was her first love, and it always seems for life. But not fate. Such distances did not sustain their relationship. I literally cried when I watched the ending of the movie. How he was morally heartbroken, but for the fans “dressed” a smile and held concerts.
The attitude towards fans can be said separately. That's just incredible loyalty to them. Invite on stage, take pictures, sign autographs. It's just a dream for me. And how did the fans not faint? Though tears of joy were visible,
But the most important discovery I made for myself - I understood the meaning of her songs!
Each of her songs is a personal experience, a part of her memory. I didn't know that.
E.T. - about Russell
Not Like The Movies - about problems with him, first experiences about separation
Peacock - well, I think it's also obvious that this is related to him.
Teenage Dream is a dream to be on stage.
Wide Awake - the beginning of a new life, after parting
etc.
Every song makes sense! Even, in my opinion, not the best TGIF.
And her words about motherhood... Yeah, she's obviously not ready for that. She is very young and as she said herself, "A child cannot have a child, and I am a child." She hasn't matured yet because her childhood was spent in church choirs, not the way she wanted. That is why such losses, such disappointments in life.
But I truly believe she will be fine. It doesn’t attract fans like Lady Gaga, but she’s great too. I hope that this tour did not break her at all, and she, having overcome all the pain, will continue to write her wonderful songs.
P.S. It seems to me that if the film had been rented more, eating in 4 countries, then the amount would have been collected more. I don’t know how many fans there are in Russia, but at least a million, I think she would raise it.
From Puritanka to Rebel - Not For Katy Perry Fans.
So, after the concert epics of Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, the world viewer is presented with a new creation, a musical and documentary biography about the career of another pop princess - the bright and colorful Katy Perry.
Let me start, perhaps, with the most interesting – the film “Katy Perry: Part of Me”, which cost the studio “Paramont” in 12 million dollars, eventually collected at home, in the United States, only a modest 25 million. This project did not bring any losses to the studio, and even paid off completely, but the weak profit of one million dollars (55% of the fees) undoubtedly upset the bosses of the film industry. Evil tongues did not hesitate, and instantly blamed all the blame for the failure on the singer herself: they say that Katie, who appeared in show business relatively recently, “draw power” is far from the same as Bieber or Jackson, so fans who would go to theaters, initially there were few. I agree that Bieber undoubtedly has more fans than his film, but Jackson had a more intriguing story than the fan frenzy, promising to give fans (and others) the opportunity to “look” into the life of the deceased pop king and feel how he was in real life. There is no such thing as “Particle Me”, but it is a pity – it could be...
The film is a series of concerts, moderately diluted with short scenes from the personal life of the singer. But that’s where all the positivity ends – the creators chose to focus on the “technical” aspect of the singer’s career – you won’t see anything really “personal” except Katie’s face without makeup. Before the viewer, the “behind the scenes” of the American business show is well revealed – how to find a recording studio, talented gay people who will promote you, how to create the image and style of the star, in general – How To Make It In The Big City, and all this on the example of Katie.
But the problem is that Miss Parry, unlike Miss Spears, has something to tell the world – she grew up in a traditional Christian family, and for a long time remained an obedient religious daughter. Rejecting religious principles is not so easy, you need self-confidence and, probably, some degree of disappointment in the canons of religion. Potentially, the topic of religious conflict could have graced her biography, made the film more serious, but the creators of the project blundered here, portraying Katie’s former piety as part of her image built on the principle of “Good Girl Gone Bad” – a good girl turned into a bad one. A la, once tired Katie realized that religion would not bring her anything good, so she came to Los Angeles, walked into a gay bar and became a star.
A separate air kiss to members of the gay community of America, who gave this religiously hard-working world the scandalous lady of the GAGU, but to be honest, to look at their annoying faces throughout the film, which, in fact, is not about them, is a bit tiring. In general, if you download all of Katy Perry’s YouTube videos and re-watch them, you’ll learn a lot more about her than you would after watching this biography. In the meantime
