Not to watch a movie where Nicolas and Benoit are almost a crime: I love both very much, and it’s funny that I like these two incredibly despite the fact that I do not like them outwardly.
I will not say that the film followed in the treasury of loved ones - with similar stories for me personally this movie for once, but I really liked it: atmospheric, incredible immersion in the era, a delightful cast, impeccable camera work, a good plot - there is nothing to blame at all.
The film begins with two women disassembling the things of a recently deceased mother, and talking about how quickly their father, who loved her madly, turned in. In things they find that which opens to them the life of their parents from the side where they are not just parents, but a man and a woman, in whose life there was love, tenderness, affection, commitment, and insane passion ... but for each other.
Frequently, flashback movies are ripped and jumping from time to time, which spoils the perception. Here this was avoided, we bound without jerks and very beautiful. The main couple in the film are played by Benoit Majimel and actively unloved Melanie Thierry. Surprisingly, I liked Melanie here: fortunately, she was not shown without makeup, so she did not look like a moth from a closet. And the hair was finally done. She looks amazing makeup and clothes in the style of the 40-50s! Light curls, dress cases or flying below the knee, and voila! she does not even look like milkmaid Clava, quite pass for a lady. No, really, it turned out very attractive in this film. As for her acting abilities, I never disputed, just evaluate them, when neither the role, then the men in the film stacked up, and she looks like a piglet of some kind, well, like... then finally everything worked out. The couple with Benoit turned out incredibly successful! It was easy to give the viewer to feel how in love with his wife Michelle ... does not even love, namely in love ... and it feels that she is cozy and comfortable with him, and she rather loves him, but there is no love in this, rather acceptance, respect.
And then Michel's brother appears in their lives. Everyone thought that he died, but how he survived, whether it was him, how and why he got here is a complete mystery. And then ... it is not to describe. Nothing superfluous, one glance, sometimes not even at each other, but the tension between Jean and Lena seems to hover in the air. Looks like you'll strike a match and it'll explode. I understand that it is so catchy in Nicolas DuVochelle. But words cannot convey it. I don’t like it outwardly, I don’t like it at all: when he speaks Russian in this film, I swear, it doesn’t even seem unnatural, as long as he has an unusually non-French face, but ... there is some combination of passion, viciousness, mystery, toughness, masculinity ... it’s internal, not external ... something that hypnotizes, that you can’t understand from the photos, but that leaves no questions why he breaks the heroine from his presence. A successful couple turned out with Melanie, although I do not like her, however, I begin to think, and who with Nicolas does not chemical ... I do not remember such.
I never doubted his talent, but for one scene at the end of the film, where he sits silently in the car, it is time to give Cesar! His heart was bleeding to see him.
I don’t think everyone will like the movie. But I can safely recommend to those who love films from some eras, to streets, costumes, signs, cars and all that – here it is simply incomparably embodied, and to those who love films where the relationship of the characters is more shown not with a bunch of conversations and explanations, but with emotions, often even understatement, which speaks brighter than words. I really liked it.
