I watched the movie "The Wild." Nausea is like an aftertaste. The point is not even in the difficult scenes from the past of the heroine, where after the death of her mother, she lost control of her life, becoming a drug addict and giving the first men to use her body, but that these events fill everything. In fact, we do not see any transformation of the heroine, no hope and no light.
Such a walking path can really be a great way to survive difficult events, to realize and express your feelings, to understand yourself and your strengths through overcoming. But only in the film, the path of transformation is not shown at all, and watching the heroine splash out emotions over and over again is not very interesting and seems not enough. The most interesting thing - the transformation and change of a person - remained behind the scenes and said only with words at the end.
Had it not been for the closing words in the film's finale, I would have said that after the hike she was back on the path of destroying herself. Because I don’t see in her reflections during the campaign any hope, no light, something that will help her to pull herself together as a whole person with dignity.
The film itself was interesting to watch and not boring, but after it there was a feeling of emptiness and understatement.
Refusal to acknowledge wounds is the same source as her strength.
I watched the movie for the first time in 2015 and didn’t understand much. I watched because of Witherspoon and because of the hype around the book. It was wild to me that some people voluntarily embark on such journeys, deliberately depriving themselves of the benefits that mankind had achieved by the twenty-first century.
After reviewing the picture after 8 years I realized something.
It is not about showing the world the most amazing story of her life (after all, we see nothing new in the background of Cheryl’s journey, which pushed her to the route). And not to boast that some woman (at that time it was rare - it was more usual on the route to meet men, but still) coped the entire distance.
We see how the heroine, after experiencing grief and destroying herself to a seemingly point of no return, managed to cover herself with a shell that, in the manner of lidocaine, atrophied all her emotions and feelings that she did not want to live. And because of this journey, every mile, every calluse, every abrasion, every fear for her safety, Cheryl is stripping off this shell layer by layer. Through physical deprivation and pain, she gets rid of the role of a person “who is already fine” and admits – no, not normal.
She allows herself to cry, finally says goodbye to her ex-husband, asks her brother to take a step towards her and then realizes that the shell is no longer needed, because there is no one else to defend herself from - her main enemy has forgiven her.
And this story is one of many, but that's the point. Someone will see himself in the heroine, someone will come her way, which means that the wounds will be recognized.
Mood movie, just chewing chips under it and laughing for subsequent discussion, is unlikely to come out. But I definitely recommend watching.
I don’t know why this movie is bad, the script or the direction. The emotions of the heroine are poorly understood during the trip. Motivation is poorly shown. Everything is boring and boring. An immoral person who claims to be a feminist, but uses the fact that she is a woman to seek help from men. Killed the heroine's withdrawal. If you want to cheat on your husband, cheat, you want to take drugs. Very unpleasant person. 40-year-old Reese Witherspoon looks more beautiful than when she was 20.
Bravo for monetizing emptiness, nothing more to praise
“We cannot be led astray from the path.”
Because we don't even know where we're going!
That's what surprises me, no, probably even fascinates Americans - that they like to turn any disgusting experince, "life experience" into a biopic / bestseller, almost a textbook, "inspiring example."
Without spoilers, the whole plot was already shown in the trailer: the heroine with a craving for self-destruction due to an unhappy childhood (the alcoholic father, an example of deviant behavior as a role model in front of her eyes, domestic violence) finally goes crazy after the death of her mother. Like, grew up a long time ago, loving husband and health - available, work, give birth, live and rejoice. No. For some reason, she begins to lead a way of life confused (those at least take the money for it, and this one is unclear: “muffles the pain”) and take heroin, abortion. He is always complaining and complaining about life.
All this black woman is presented to us in the form of sudden flashbacks, “reviving” the boring and monotonous backbone of the film: the girl goes somewhere with a backpack. Moreover, if the whole idea of this journey was in self-knowledge, healing and, as a result, changing oneself... this does not happen. Or somehow cunningly remains behind the scenes, since for the entire timekeeping nothing but deaf irritation, this character does not cause. No sympathy, sympathy or, even more so, respect: after all, no one is to blame for the problems of the girl, but herself. Emptiness as it is under the slogan of a motivating life story, and in fact - how to waste your life on sex and drugs, and then go into the woods with a backpack in search of the meaning of life. . .
Eww, so sorry for the time. Why is it that people who have fallen are portrayed as heroes when they finally begin to live like everyone else? Not like pigs, but like people. Should we cry and applaud?

And those for Weather Spoon, who looks good for her age even as a drug addict.
Overall impression: Perhaps this film got into my mood, it is difficult to advise such a movie. There is a lot of thought in it, what is the movie about? It's not corny, it's about life. The fact that sometimes you do not need to prove anything to someone, you need to prove yourself: that you are above trials, stronger than problems and brighter than adversity.
Cheryl (Reese Witherspoon) has tried everything in her life. Through her memories, she realizes that forgetting the sad won’t help a needle or a glass. The death of a mother, a broken marriage, it's incredibly crushing, it's a ton that strangles a woman. She makes a strange decision – she goes on a walking journey (1770 km!) to the highest parts of the Sierra Nevada range and the Cascade Mountains. The trials that befell the woman on this dangerous solitary journey will heal her from mental suffering, but the process will not be painless.
What else can help if not loneliness? For some, this is a painful depression for years, for others, an opportunity to remember past mistakes, draw conclusions and move on. The closer Cheryl gets to her intended path, the stronger she gets. Memories of the girl flashbacks are played out along the way, telling about the difficult fate of Cheryl. There is a lot of symbolism in this tape, but it is understandable, because history gradually leads to this. You sympathize with the heroine, and thoughts slip from “Why did she go so far” to “Could I?” Without a shower, normal food, with fear in the night?
Yes, I liked the tape, as I liked Reese's game, as I liked the story itself, slightly melancholic, beautiful and sad. Sunrises and sunsets come every day, you decide whether to meet them or not...

I'll tell you right away, this movie is good. But not as drama, or melodrama, or whatever genres there are. It's as good as history in itself.
The main character of the film ' Wild' wanders with a backpack behind her shoulders along the tourist route - and almost immediately the viewer realizes that she is not a tourist, and this is her first hike. She wanders alone, through forests and mountains. And meets on the way the same tourists or hunters. Sometimes the girl talks with random fellow travelers - but she does not seek friendship with anyone, and strive to move on as soon as possible. Sometimes in the wilderness she meets friendly people, and sometimes those, meeting with whom does not bode well - and you begin to seriously fear for her life. . .
In the process, it turns out that through forests, mountains and deserts - and her path is 1,800 kilometers - the girl carries not only a backpack. But also heavy memories of a past life. And he presses on the heroine much more than the straps of a backpack, and burns much more than the scorching sun. This girl hates and blames herself - because of a broken marriage - and tries to find herself on a godforsaken path.
As a result, the road for the main character is a kind of cleansing of the past. And at the same time, no matter how much you run, no matter how much you knock down your legs, the past is always there, and stands behind her.
A girl who runs away from herself at the same time trying to find herself on the wild paths, Reese Witherspoon plays. And to me, it's one of her best roles.
Will she find herself? Will he be able to move away from the past or reconcile with it? About it - film 'Wild'
I recommend the film to those who appreciate in the cinema not only special effects, action or outer shell.
There comes a moment in human life when life consists not only of the present but also of the past. There are already many memories of events that cause regret, bitterness or pain. After these memories, after this past, come doubts about the future. Suddenly a man is stupored, as if he were standing in the middle of the desert, alone, and around no one. Only rare companions meet on the way. They are all strangers because they are temporary.
Existential drama 'Wild' ...
It would seem - a minor episode of the film - the main character walks down the street, carrying all the pain, the horror that a person covers at a time of trouble. She is in despair, her protection is absent, she needs support, compassion, but the world through individual representatives of humanity shows her only indifference, emptiness and detachment. And, being on the side of the main heroine, the viewer feels the whole bottomless indifference with which the millstones of being revolve. The world will move, joke and laugh and continue. He does not care about the experiences of an individual, the experiences of people in general. It exists and will exist independently of the destinies of individual human beings. And even from other people, a person should not rely on compassion and support. And those, when they meet, should be perceived only as luck and happiness.
Having lost landmarks in life, having lost everything, living by inertia, within the framework of social dogmas, even through their violations, the heroine finds herself in emptiness. And the way out of this emptiness is to overcome oneself. Rebirth.
A person has always been attracted by travel and adventure, because this is the quintessence of life.
The film reveals a second layer of reality on which it already seems inappropriate to criticize what on the first (and superficial) level would be worth criticizing in the first place. The second layer reveals the causes of human behavior. And these reasons are such that sometimes they simply cannot be carried alone. People are looking for what they cannot get. And the second layer shows that criticism and judgment are not what is necessary. More compassion, humanity and kindness. Sometimes a little kindness is more important than mountains of criticism.
The need to find yourself, real landmarks and learn to live this life is a difficult and not for everyone feasible task. Many people fail to meet this challenge. Many people go out of their way in one way or another.
Catharsis of the main character occurs through overcoming yourself, through an attempt to be alone with your problems, yourself. Escape did not bring her liberation. So she's taking a desperate step.
The meeting with the child in the finale of the film is also allegorical, because it is the continuation of life - children - that is the main meaning. And through a short communication with the child, the heroine acquires the cherished correct connection with her mother - the daughter becomes a woman ready to go on. And only symbolically taking the place of the mother, the heroine truly understood her, and, understanding, found again.
A few words about Reese Witherspoon's game. She was not completely convincing in this role. But this does not interfere with the perception of the story itself. This is the case when the very idea, successfully implemented by the director, the operator, is able to speak for itself.
This movie is a parable. A very deep work by the writer.
The film turned out to be something extremely Russian: deep and dramatic. And it is not surprising that as the author of the script is Nick Hornby - a talented British writer, also known for the book ' About the Boy' and the director was Canadian Jean-Marc Valle.
In conclusion, it should be added that the aftertaste of Witherspoon's game was more pleasant. In residual sensations, she was quite organic in her image and was remembered as a positive and likable image. And later, remembering the film, first of all, it was the image of Witherspoon with a backpack behind him and big eyes in search of himself.
Mark Twain once said, “There are two most important days in every person’s life: the first when he was born, the second when he understood why.” The heroine of this film - Cheryl Straid overcame the first point, but could not understand the second part of the interpretation of the intelligent writer. Actress Reese Witherspoon perfectly embodied the real Cheryl Straid, but after watching the picture, I had a question to the creators: was it worth it? A lot of time, effort and money was spent in this “masterpiece”, especially the main character suffered a lot, as evidenced by her bruises, calluses and abrasions, not to mention liters of sweat. Hand on heart, I can say that this epic of Mr. Jean-Marc Valle did not inspire me. Yes, I do not dispute that this film touches on serious topics, but the solutions to these topics are not inspiring. Going on a trip, even faced with problems on the way, you will not achieve anything worthwhile and, moreover, you will not deserve a petition.
Cheryl Straid didn't realize another truth: Until tomorrow, you won't realize how good it was today. She didn’t appreciate everything her mother gave her. Even her mother was not treated with due respect. Cheryl ruined her life with her own hands: constant infidelity to her husband, drugs, abortion and neglect of loved ones. In my opinion, it was not the death of her mother, but her fateful words that changed Cheryl’s world: I have always been a mother and a wife. I have never managed my life on my own.” These words hit the head of our heroine on a subconscious level and scared her to death. The passing into the world of another mother, who was brilliantly embodied by Laura Dern, is not the cause of the destruction of her own life, but the consequence. Cheryl found solace in drugs and adultery, due to the disturbed psyche of her parents, especially her father contributed to this by his scandals, beating his wife, etc. I am sure that there are people who absolutely cannot have offspring. Because they don't know how to behave with children, how to raise them. It was not witches who should have been burned at the stake, but such parents. Maybe then there would be fewer orphans and unhappy people by that time.
The film is trying to tell us that you will not run away from yourself, that in the end you will have to stop and face the truth. What we do with our lives is up to us. It is up to us whether we accept the challenge of fate or, like the heroine of this movie, destroy everything we have.
Sunrises and sunsets come every day, and it depends on us whether we meet them or not, whether we will enjoy this beauty.
This film is about resistance and acceptance. It seemed two completely contradictory concepts, but only their combination provides a person with mental harmony. Resist your wildest desires and accept yourself as you are with all your flaws.
After the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayd broke down, she did not know how and why to live further, finding pleasure in drugs and promiscuous relationships. Falling to the bottom hurts and the bottom of each person is different. So in this story, when Cheryl found herself at the bottom, she realized what she was turning into. Everyone knows well to get out of the swamp, you need to take your hair and pull. So Cheryl decided to go on a dangerous and insane journey to herself in order to defeat herself. Three months alone with your thoughts, memories, mistakes and mistakes. You'll either burn or you'll be reborn. But the most important thing in this struggle is not to dwell on yourself and your actions, but to think about what makes a person a person. Overestimating her life, Cheryl understood the main thing that her mother always taught, that helped to survive all adversity with joy - mercy and the ability to enjoy each day.
Every minute there is a struggle within us and it is up to you to decide which side you are on. The main thing is to be honest with yourself and look for beauty in the world!
Best film of its kind. Incredibly motivating and inspiring. It shows that you can overcome everything, and that you should not be afraid of difficulties. It amazed me, conquered me and literally touched my soul.
After watching 'Wild' there was a dual feeling: on the one hand, the film was clearly shot by someone who had never been on hikes, a lot of blunders and a very strange soundtrack, flat, one-sided counters; but on the other hand, I wanted to read the book, the main character managed to convey the breakdown of the personality, quite reliably transmitted the period of grief, parting, overcoming the crisis. So I rather liked the movie.
The story itself responded to me, there is a living of grief in my experience, and the crisis associated with it - in the film this path is shown very realistically. But it remained a mystery to me, what hit the main character so hard? As I understand it, at the time of her mother’s death, she had a beloved husband, family, girlfriend ... but at the same time she still fell into all seriousness. Why didn't she get support from her family? This part was left behind.
The first step is to take a strong action that will give strength all the rest of the way, ' if I can do it, then everything else and even more!' - so I understand these three months of overcoming myself. Do something worthy, get to know yourself in different circumstances, get to know your essence and be surprised by your strength. And #39; that by focusing on physical suffering, at least some of the emotional ones will disappear' there is a sense that balancing physical and emotional suffering is indeed easier. It's like when you're stressed and scared to start squatting and running -- it helps -- it helps you feel alive. I think I should watch this movie.
This is the story of a girl named Cheryl Straid who got lost, lost, lost. The moment she lost her closest friend, her whole life collapsed. Numerous infidelities, heroin and prolonged depression... but one day she realized that she had gone too far from her true self. I wanted to go back and find the Cheryl I was before. To do this, she had to walk alone about 1800 km on a heavy and dangerous trail called "Route of the Pacific Rim".
For me in this role, Reese Witherspoon opened in a completely new way. From the image of a miniature blonde, familiar to many from the films “Legally Blonde” and “Stylish Thing”, she successfully grew into “Wild” Sheryl Straid.
Nevertheless, the impressive acting of Reese Witherspoon is not inferior to the work done by her colleague - performer of the role of Cheryl's mother - Lora Dern. Surprisingly, these two talented women did not have enough to “Oscar”.
Separately, I want to note the work of costume artists - it was necessary to especially try to make the appearance of the heroine so naturalistic and natural. The heroine Reese Witherspoon actually looks like a long walk on a grueling path.
In my opinion, the movie “Wild” turned out to be really strong. The picturesque views of the Mojave Desert, California and Oregon look stunningly alluring. As the main character is gradually looking for herself: howling with wolves, dying of thirst in the desert and drowning in the snow, we learn to look at the world around us in a new way. In life we get a lot of difficulties and sometimes everyone makes mistakes, but the main thing that the heroine understands is how important it is to learn to accept yourself.
I’ve also read Cheryl Strade’s autobiography, and I can say that as a basis for the script, it’s quite a fascinating work.
Some plot twists in the film are shown fragmentary (costs of the film format), which still does not prevent you to trace the main idea of the picture.
I would advise "Wild" to those who "walk slowly but never walk backward" (Abraham Lincoln).

First time I wanted to leave a note here. I wanted to make a cry that EACH person in the world was sent ready to help you! Right now. Any emergency room. Not asking for anything in return, not seeing hypocrisy and lies. Yes, the world is not without them. But at every step there is a person who is able to give you good, which you will then give to someone on your way. You only need to be open to this world.
Boomerang of kindness, love and sincerity. And the same movie. Finding yourself and finding true balance. It's like a therapy session, but it's free. A meeting with nature is always a good idea!
10 out of 10 for sincerity, romanticism and the spirit of freedom and unity of souls. For the thought in the title and the sunshine of the mother of the main character, what she taught her, but that came only years later. It's all about it! Let's turn a blind eye to the gibberish, friends! And we will open new achievements and cleanse our lives from unnecessary spraying.
The film left a bad impression, although the idea is good. Experience some mental catharsis against the background of physical suffering and trials. And these very sufferings, which seem to go in the background for some reason, came to the fore and sometimes surprised with their delusions and inconsistencies. The director shows in great detail how the heroine falls off her nails from the “wrong” shoes, but at the same time the heroine never closed her head from the sun and heroically struggles all day under the scorching sun and wind. And at the same time, at the end of the journey, we see an episode with a naked heroine, where there is a place for bruises and calluses from a backpack, but there is no hint of a tan of a “divac”. White as milk heroine. There's a lot more to list... From such little things somehow spoils the impression, as from a TV show, in which all the deception and scenery. And I didn't see any particular transformation of the main character. In the past, she cheated on her husband, after the divorce, she went into all seriousness. And by the end of the journey, the heroine again goes to bed with an unfamiliar man. She seems to love her husband very much. Sexual scenes in the film are present, they kind of have to go with some background, but leave after watching a very nasty and nauseating feeling inside, which makes the film want to see. Here is such a strange movie-little things for some reason came to the fore in my perception, and everything that happens on the screen I want to answer “I do not believe”.
From the outset, I want to say that from my point of view, this is a film of a lifetime: legendary, although it was released not so long ago; emotional; touching; inspiring and so on, given the situation and emotional state in which you are now. In this picture you can find everything to even in the darkest periods of life, find the strength to continue it, and continue happily and meaningfully.
"Refusal to recognize wounds is the same source as its strength"
This film is an adaptation of the autobiographical novel of the same name by Cheryl Strayd, who in 1994 at the age of 26 years in 100 days walked about 1,770 km from the Mexican to almost Canadian border with the United States. The film describes not only the journey itself, but also what made the girl, who has never gone on such walking tours, go on it. In the past few years, Reese Witherspoon is confronted with the death of her mother, the only member of the family who valued her, and perhaps the only person in the world. And against the background of the experiences associated with this event, Cheryl “experiment” with drugs, eventually reaching heroin addiction, promiscuous sexual relations, which are both infidelities to her husband, followed by divorce (because marriage, unlike divorce, is not eternal), and mental loneliness. The surprising fact in this situation is that “Strade” is a surname chosen after the divorce, which means “lost”. That is, the heroine realizes that she is in a difficult situation, unlike most cinematic and literary heroes who despair and succumb to moral decay, which shows her true inner strength.
"I'll walk to the Cheryl that my mother saw"
The key in this film is the image of the mother and her relationship with the main character. This woman was everything to her, and the more difficult it was to lose her, and the more dramatic the scenes of her mother’s illness and subsequent death are shown. She taught Cheryl that if everyone on this planet knew, there would be peace and harmony on this planet, namely, how to find the best in yourself and keep it for life. Speaking of these qualities, I remember the episode when, already in the hospital, almost immobilized, she says that she always dreamed of a “room with a view”, although in fact in her hospital room from the window just a little visible lake in the distance. People with this perception of the world are not often met, and they seem to charge you, giving all their energy, so it is not surprising that when they leave life, only darkness remains.
Aren't you lonely?
- Truth be told, I'm more lonely in everyday life.
In the meantime, it is worth moving on to the campaign itself, where both Cheryl Strade and Reese Witherspoon are revealed, as I believe this is her best role and it was after her that I began to look at her as a really serious actress, whose cinematography is not ashamed to be interested in. The meaning of the name is justified not only because of the idea of the main character, but also due to the fact that every time she meets people on her way, or rather men (after all, one of the main factors of the uniqueness of what is happening is that Cheryl is a girl), they consider or openly call a savage, since especially considering that this is the 90s of the last century. Which is quite reasonable, because a girl on a solo trip can be exposed to many risks that men will not think about. Therefore, the fact that she goes without paying attention to all the fears, physical difficulties, which abounded (at least given the huge distances, unpredictable weather conditions and a 36 kilogram backpack) and not allowing the traumas of the past to take over, is truly amazing to madness! And most importantly, Cheryl Strayd was really able to carry out a tremendous work of self-healing and was able to let go of that stone from the soul that dragged her to the bottom over the past years.
My life, like all lives, is mysterious, irrevocable, and sacred. So close, so real... so mine. And how wonderful to let it be.
Thus, after each viewing of this “ballad” (for this film can be reviewed more than once, being at the crossroads of life), and looking back at your own problems, life becomes somehow clearer and easier, even if at the same time you begin to think about what was previously closed from you, such depth does not interfere, but only is an ornament, a logical aftertaste of this film. Thus, the “dangerous journey as a way to find yourself” takes for me a deserved place at the top of the cinema of our time.

There may come a time in anyone’s life when the world seems to be collapsing and there is no hope for a better future. In such moments, a person may try to drown out their grief in bad habits or find answers in empty conversations with other people. But sometimes it is enough for him to just be alone with himself to put his thoughts in order and figure out how to live. A similar situation had to endure American writer Cheryl Strayd, whose story formed the basis of her book and the film of the same name “Wild”.
Synopsis After the tragic death of her mother and a recent divorce, depressed Cheryl tries to drown out her grief with drugs and promiscuous sexual intercourse. Realizing that this lifestyle will only aggravate her already difficult emotional state, Cheryl decides to walk alone on the Pacific tourist trail, the path along which will be far from painless.
First of all, I would like to mention play of actors. Reese Witherspoon as Cheryl skillfully conveyed the difficult emotional state of a woman who first had to endure the loss of a loved one who personified the whole world for her, and then a complicated divorce after seven years of flawless marriage. Laura Dern also liked the role of Cheryl’s mother, a woman with a kind heart and soul, who, despite the setbacks in life, always knew how to find something bright in what was happening.
Director Jean Marc-Vallet, who a few years ago announced himself after the release of the biographical drama “Dallas Buyers Club”, this time turned to the topic of human depression and the healing power of nature. In his film, the director secluds the main character with nature, which becomes an effective medicine for her. In fact, “Wild” is a parable film in which the tourist trail plays the role of a thorny path of the heroine through her entire life to the realization that life is cruel and unfair, but it does not stop, and sooner or later you can find the long-awaited hope for happiness.
As you know, the plot of the film is based on the novel of the same name by the writer, in which she told the story of her spiritual healing after experiencing grief. The main action of the film focuses directly on the hike, during which Cheryl indulges in memories from the past. So, we learn about her mother Bobby, with whom Cheryl has developed a great relationship, especially against the background of a tragic past, but which the disease took away unfairly early. Cheryl also reminisces about her broken marriage, when she started using drugs and sleeping with everyone. This way of life deprives the heroine of all hope. But she could not imagine that the spontaneous decision to go on a solo hike would help her find peace, put her thoughts in order and believe in herself and her future.
Result In my opinion, “Wild” is very strong in spirit cinema. While watching, you see something familiar in it that you yourself have encountered in life. It is humanity and naturalness that makes the film relevant for viewing, after watching, leaving a pleasant sediment on the soul.

“Wild” – “the way to forgive yourself and the beginning of a new life.”
Participant of two international film festivals in Telluride and Toronto in 2014, the American biographical drama “Wild” directed by Jean-Marc Valle (well known for staging the chic Oscar-winning drama “Dallas Buyers Club”) was rightly noted by many positive reviews, both hardened film critics and simple independent film reviewers. Although, unfortunately, not awarded a single victory, but deservedly turned out to be 11 times nominated at once for 9 prestigious film awards and awards, including “Oscar”, “Golden Globe”, MTV channel award, etc. – this brilliant film adaptation managed not only to shed light for film lovers and admirers of “arthouse” on this entertaining story, but also to bring a grandiose innovation to the career of the leading role performer Reese Witherspoon, thereby opening a new side for the audience in it, as an actress, who is more pleasantly able to perform, and, of course, to perform more complex roles.
Established in the past for the audience, in the face of the seductive beauty Reese, the images of the characters, mainly of the melodramatic genre in the cinema, as a cheerful blonde with brains (a comedy in two parts of "Blonde in Law"), a young and naively in love girl in love thrillers ("Fear, "Cruel Games"), a charming dream girl (" Cross the Line" and "Between Heaven and Earth"), have absolutely nothing to do with the character and the main character of Sherry.
The whole story of this heavy drama focuses on a long and by no means difficult walk journey length of 1800 kilometers on the territory of the Pacific Crest Trail (tourist route through the highest parts of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountains). Driven by an unsuccessful marriage and the death of her mother to complete despair, madness and despair, feeling all the meaninglessness of her existence and having no idea of her future, the main character Cheryl Straid in her 90-day procession along a dangerous multi-kilometer route will seek healing from all the heartache accumulated during the young years of her life from the actions and events that have occurred, from the pain that, all with the same indomitable force, overcomes her to this day. In the process of his solo wandering along the slopes of rocky mountains, endless deserts, dense forests, often under the yoke of inhospitable weather, and spending the lion's share of time surrounded by absolute silence in the wild, - "wild" Cheryl will be repeatedly immersed in the sea of memories, both the most painful and pleasant, in parallel, through the test on her fragile female body of all the gravity and ruthlessness of the chosen “path of healing”, gradually becoming aware of the nature of her own self – seeking, thus, to find the long-awaited forgiveness of herself and start life from scratch.
It is known that the American writer and, concurrently, the author of the filmed autobiographical novel-the original source “Wild”. A Dangerous Journey as a Way to Find Yourself, Cheryl Straid personally sent a copy of her book to Reese Witherspoon 5 months before its release. Cheryl believed that the only actress who could play her was Witherspoon. Reese saw the potential in this story and became interested in it, as it could be a great launch pad for her production company. Acting as one of the producers and performer of the main role, Reese not only once again demonstrated her brilliant acting skills, but also made her invaluable contribution to the transformation of this story at the highest level, for which she was separately awarded 6 of the 9 (total) nominations for such awards and awards as: Sputnik Award: for Best Actress, Oscar for Best Actress, Golden Globe Award for Best Dramatic Female Role, BAFTA Award (for Merit in the Field of British and International Film) for Best Female Role Actress in the USA, as well as the Best Female Actress Award for MTV/TV.
The story of Cheryl Straid, a woman who has lost all hope for happiness, is first of all astounding by the demonstration of all her dedication and steely zeal to master the whole road and change forever. The story of how a person seeks to find himself, to redeem everything terrible through pain and all kinds of obstacles, and also to determine for himself the meaning for the future life, which, I am sure, is thought, if not every person, then everyone who aspires to become a person.
Trouble doesn't come alone. Cheryl Strayd's story proves that. The father is an alcoholic and rude, the cheerful mother is sick, the brother does not feel special feelings for her sister. So it's no surprise that Cheryl decides to diversify her life. And not in the right way (one of which is drugs). In the course of the film, it seems that a little more - and Cheryl probably would have done the irreparable. If it weren't for two important things. The first is a book about travel and the second is love for your mother.
Reese Witherspoon for many remained the same Blundinka in the Law. However, in the film Wild, she demonstrates mature, perfect play. She very well managed to convey the image of a girl whose life falls apart, as everything turns to dust. The help of her best friend (played by the gorgeous Gaby Hoffman (The Obvious) and ex-husband (who, despite the divorce, supports her ex-wife with a kind word) keeps Cheryl "over the water." But that's not enough. And then the girl decides on a journey that will change her whole life.
Very interesting film. First, I would like to mention the music. Each song here is unique and brings its own flavor. Returning to the topic of the hike - not every man will go such a long way. And here is a woman who leads in front of the desire to become who her beloved mother wanted her to be. The heroine is waiting for many adventures and dangers. Mountain streams, rough hunters, envious travelers (this is about three guys, that would be at the very end) and much more.
The film is definitely worth watching. Biographical cinema has always aroused interest among the viewer and this film was no exception. Witherspoon has an incredible charisma (not to mention voice), so she definitely coped with the role of Cheryl Straid. In conclusion, I would like to note the true fact that the main thing is not quantity, but quality. The film runs less than 2 hours (which you will agree – for modern times it is rare) and at the same time reveals absolutely everything. So in the end we have a good movie, beautiful Witherspoon and (attention) the lesson that on the hike should be at hand comfortable shoes. Otherwise, the nails will be a problem.
In my opinion, this film can absolutely be considered a universal self-teacher for personal effectiveness.
Yes, the story taken as the basis of the plot is a biography of a particular person. At the same time, it seems to me that what happened to the heroine can apply to each of us. Namely,
Trouble. Mistake. Lessons.
Every person on the planet is a person, at the same time, with its own unique history, and with a very similar background. The situations we face in our lives are more or less similar. The most interesting thing is that the way to respond to these situations is also more or less similar. It turns out that the mistakes we make are mostly the same.
No matter what anyone says, each of us has made dozens of mistakes. The situation is that most of us have been taught that mistakes are bad in themselves. Accordingly, our universal brain, which likes to focus on the negative more than the positive, clings to this “bad” that, in the end, triggers the cumulative effect. For many, this cumulative effect, over time, leads to a certain kind of line. The one that will either be lost or lost. And, it depends on the choice of further actions whether a person will go further, or simply disappear.
The “wild” heroine made her choice in favor of her future, living her past in her present.
Her story, in my opinion, should make it clear to every viewer: living in the past is counterproductive. It is also counterproductive to give up your past. The only promising option here is to accept your past as it is, learn from it, draw conclusions and take them with you into your future. There is no other option.
Of course, someone has to travel a thousand miles to make peace with himself. Not even like that. Everyone will have to go this way. The only difference is the way this trip is done. Someone will have to do it literally, like a heroine with her feet. Someone inside their head. That, believe me, is not much easier than walking.
At the same time, thanks to this walk, you can give yourself another chance. The very chance that every one of those who has ever made at least one mistake in his life needs. In other words, all of us.
And, yes, mistakes are not bad. Mistakes are opportunities to do things differently. It is an opportunity to allow yourself to be human. It is not necessary to become a savage.
Dreiser with Faulkner in the company of Mein Reed and Fenimore Cooper.
The typical American housewife of the postmodern era, burdened with drugs, debauchery and complete lack of meaning of her existence, cannot escape from the circle of the American province, which sucks deeper and deeper into the swamp, in which she grew up and spent her childhood but in which she found nothing but boredom. Being on the verge of complete self-destruction, under the influence of a sudden gust, she goes on a hiking tour through all states to the Canadian border through the wildest and most deserted places on the road meeting the same people as her looking for the goals of her being on the road. To the border, a former drug addict comes another person with wide-open eyes and a heart open to the world. A good movie, not typical of Hollywood, which we judge by blockbusters mixed with blood, action and idiocy scripts. Reese Witherspoon convincingly proved her outstanding potential as a dramatic actress, who can play both a stupid blonde and a simple woman suffering from the dignity of life. Landscape footage in the film plays an important role and sets the background on which the smallness of our problems is most clearly revealed.
It's so hard to go to hell and go where your eyes look. But deep down, we all think about it.
A fool is one who knows where he is going. Because there is no route as such, or rather there is, you never know what awaits you behind the pass. Also, you can get off this route at any time.
Get off, get off, get off. Or maybe it’s going to get worse.
This film teaches you to feel, returning you to the origins, to the most important.
To the fact that even if you lost your way, you need to continue moving and somewhere, at your destination, you will find answers to questions, find inner harmony and understand where to go next.
I don’t judge a movie, an actor, a writer, a director, a cameraman, anyone. I will only say that a spoon is good for dinner, and a film is good for your state of mind.
And then everything comes together and the glory falls into your heart and soul.
That's the goal.
34; ... he saw large black wings flickering between the trees, as Death carried Eurydice into the underworld.
Wild is an old as the world story about the Hero’s Journey. In the life of each of us there are irreversible changes that are so difficult to accept, impossible to accept. And then begins the great Journey to the realm of the dead for the dear heart of the past. We all want our past back, whatever it is, whoever it is. Bring back what made you you. It seemed impossible to live without something.
Black and deep are the waters of the Styx, and it is terrible for the living to step into them.
The heroine of the film dared on such a journey, being, apparently, beyond the extreme degree of despair. The Long Way is a long conversation with yourself about the most important thing. And about what brought you here - betrayal of your essence, betrayal of those who trusted you and were close.
“She ran, without clearing the roads, on the thick grass and in a rapid run stepped into the snake’s nest. The snake wrapped around her leg and stung. Eurydice cried out loud in pain and fear and fell on the grass.
The film has many references to the myth of Orpheus. And the way drugs are injected.
And serpents in the desert, like stinging memories in the kingdom of Hades. And the image of the hauler of the dead, Charon, who helps to discard everything superfluous.
Cheryl, the heroine of the film, longs to get back her Eurydice, the one she lost irretrievably on the path of life. Is it her departed loving mother, or is it her Love, or is it herself, the former Cheryl? That Cheryl who still had it ahead of her. Cheryl, who could still hope.
On the long journey alone, there is a chance to see the simple truths that are sprinkled with the sand or snow of your crazy life. Simple truths that never really disappear, but are often overlooked. Look! Look for the beauty that will comfort you. Find your answer to the main question!
- And you? Why are you here?
- I don't know. I think I need to find something in me. Find it! I think the trail will help me. Look at this! This power can fill you if you want!
And eventually, there's an epiphany. A true awareness of your loss is coming. You finally decide to look into the face of the Void, which arose out of nowhere, which ruthlessly absorbed everything that is so dear to you on earth.
- The ashes of a man are not like the ashes of a fire.
Orpheus failed to get his Eurydice back. No one has power over life and death. But he found his song! A song where Love always sounds! (one episode in the rain of meeting a boy on the trail)
“Finally there was light ahead, and the exit to the ground was near. And the closer the exit was, the brighter it became ahead, and now everything became clearly visible around.
“For a long time Orpheus sat on the bank of the Styx alone and waited. He didn't wait for anyone.
This movie is more impressive than the others. He's special.
It's like an anthem of life.
You enjoy every second of this movie, you become a part of it, you drown in it.
There is so much philosophy, wisdom, so many quotes, each of which you want to write on a separate page in a notebook, to remember forever. And I wanted to pause the film every minute just to reflect and rethink.
“Wild” is about a person who has long gone to the realization of what life is. About a broken spirit girl who has long wandered on the way to accepting her life and herself in it.
Cheryl (Reese Witherspoon) is still very young in years, but already too old inside, decides to go on a path longer than 1500 km. She goes with a huge backpack on her back, so large that it takes long minutes to get up (it may be heavier than herself), but gradually throws the extra one out of it. Cheryl does not know what awaits her on this hike, she never laid out a tent, never filtered dirty swamp water, did not live alone in the middle of the desert, did not climb mountains. But she really needs this journey to heal her inner wounds. Cheryl will go 3 months, and during this time her character will change beyond recognition, because on the way she will learn to overcome everything that throws fate to a lonely wanderer.
But most of all in this picture is inspired by nature and man on its background.
I often cry when I see the beauty of nature on TV and in reality. I am always fascinated by mountains, volcanoes, dense forests, through which the sun’s rays, oceans, sunsets by the sea, endless fields barely penetrate. And as she walked along Cheryl's Pacific Ridge, it's impossible to hold back tears. Landscapes changed, the weather then ferocious, then spared, the forces then left the girl, then returned in a new wave. And all this way you seem to follow her, as if rethinking with her, and realize that such things as a warm shower, delicious food, clean water, soft bed – all this we do not appreciate, do not pay attention, although these simple things are already happiness.
To describe the external and contextual beauty of this picture can be a long time, but I want to say what this story (by the way, real) teaches:
Do not go astray from the intended path
Don’t be afraid of challenges.
- know that ALL problems can be solved by yourself, without anyone's help (if you want)
- Listen to yourself
Forgive yourself (this is a very important point, without which it is impossible to become a happy person).
- to love all the beautiful things that are given to us for free: sunsets, the noise of trees, the smell of herbs rubbed between your fingers, the cool morning wind, sunny weather, snowy weather, rain, starry sky and all.
Don’t be afraid to be alone with yourself after all.
Recognize losses, learn to live on after them
Looking for inspiration and strength from nature
Appreciate your life, whatever it is.
I want to end the stream of consciousness by saying that yes, after the movie you will want to pack your backpack, drop everyone and go on a lonely journey to listen to the wind, the birds singing among the mountains and yourself. And it's certainly inspiring.
Immediately note that the film 'Wild' absolutely not dramatic or heavy, on the contrary inspiring.
The film with the beautiful actress Reese Witherspoon I definitely recommend watching. The plot, at first glance, is extremely simple: a young, entangled in life girl with a huge baggage of resentment, pain and suffering goes on a hike, Pacific Crest Trail, a route very popular around the world, but for a person who does it for the first time, it is incredibly difficult and physically difficult.
In my opinion, the film is about the most important things in our lives: acceptance of ourselves, trust in life and God, the need to always move forward.
Although the theme of religion does not sound at all in the film, the title ' Bridge ' Gods and Cheryl’s view of the sky at the end of the film, still refer the viewer to the themes of eternity, God and the beauty of nature. Incredibly beautiful landscapes, soundtrack, people and animals that Cheryl meets along the way, all this only makes sense, and there is no need to look for anything more: 'Knowing that just seeing this fish under the surface of the water is enough. What it is - all & #39.
All the sad events that happened to the heroine, divorce from her husband, accidental connections, all this led her to the true path, because the love of her mother, the foundations of love for life that she laid for her children are the guidelines that led Cheryl to the fact that she found herself again.
The theme of motherly love is very strong in this film, Cheryl at different points of the way recalled those phrases and lessons that she heard from her mother and felt them again. For example, watching the sunset with a casual acquaintance or inhaling the smell of flowers.
It is very interesting to show the relationship with her ex-husband, who supported her moral letters on the campaign, but we do not see that he was the person who supported her during the most difficult time of her life. . .
My life, like all lives, is mysterious, irrevocable, and sacred. So close, so real... so mine. How crazy it was not to live.
What does a good girl need to win an Oscar today? Play in a tolerant film or appear as a homeless drug addict, crazy or mutilated. The painful passion of academicians for the squalid and the poor has already become a parable, so the appearance of the musical “La La Land” in the nominees is perceived by viewers and film lovers as a breath of fresh air.
The film "Wild" is a film adaptation of the biography of Cheryl Straid, who made a journey from California to Oregon and gained spiritual enlightenment. In the role of her beloved, the writer wanted to see only Reese Witherspoon.
The story of Cheryl Straid is the story of a girl from a poor family. The mother left her father, who often beat his wife, raised children, putting all her love and tenderness into them, taught her own example not to lose heart. She burned quickly - the cause of a deadly disease, and the daughter, Cheryl, feeling emptiness and pain, went into all seriousness to somehow drown out the mental anguish. Cheryl took drugs, cheated on her husband, until she realized that she needed to stop and chose a radical method to fight her demons - a journey along the Pacific Ridge. When you are left alone with nature, you are not up to stupidity.
Films about the strength of the human spirit are always in demand, because each viewer faced with the manifestation of his own cowardice, everyone from time to time needs the courage to make a decision, soberly assess themselves and throw away everything unnecessary, empty. In "Wild" the struggle with their own fears and whims, laziness and fatigue is shown by sketches. We are presented with a kind of baba version of the conquest of nature: coffee, reading books on a hike, tearful memories of the difficult past, which eventually begin to irritate. After another flashback about a difficult childhood and a sick mother, I want to shout to the main character: “Stop pressing on pity!” You're not the first to lose a parent, you're not the first to have an alcoholic father. There are people who have been worse off, but they don't stoop down to a beastly state like Cheryl. And the director struggles to make viewers fall in love with the main character, appealing to pity, although if he focused on the line “man and nature”, and not on the line “baba with problems”, watching Cheryl overcome the kilometers and struggles with the desire to quit everything and return to a comfortable life, would be more interesting.
I like Reese Witherspoon, but no matter how hard she tried, she failed to play the role of a downed heroin addict. Behind the greasy, deliberately disheveled hair and suffering face, the same flirty, purposeful and knowing the value of the blonde is guessed. Reese wanted to show that she could take on more than just the role of a chick? Well done, I tried. Don't do it again.
As the pluses of the film, I would mention the beautiful views, but it is the merit of nature, not the director.
I came across this film by chance, attracted by the theme of hiking solo tourism and beautiful nature. This part is really well served here. At first, it was a pity to watch Cheryl’s attempts to pop a huge backpack on herself, in which there is a lot of things that she does not need, as she tries to assemble a tent, periodically looking at the instructions how she takes the burner and only now finds that the gas cylinder does not fit, because before the time went, there was no way to check how she hates the trail and herself.
The first 10 minutes of the film did not impress me. And then I decided not to turn it off and watch it. No regrets. With the passage of time on the trail, Cheryl learns a lot. She spends three months alone, gradually merging with nature, falling in love with her path and becoming "wild." When she meets people, she is afraid of them, as well as the fox she meets. I think it's very symbolic. During this time, she became famous among tourists like her. But it's clear she doesn't understand the group of guys who seem to have come here for fun. But she meets another woman on the trail, with whom she finds a common language, with whom she looks like. And meets a man in the city, who became the only one in her life, with whom she wants to have not just sex, but love. And it seems to me that behind this seemingly not-so-significant scene, one can trace how Cheryl has changed. She used to be a drug addict, slept with the first men she met (sometimes several at once), and now... it’s not so easy for her. And I know that the trail changed the heroine.
Cheryl became strong during her journey. The film shows all the weather conditions: severe heat and drought, rain, snow. And the heroine overcomes all this. It passes through the desert, mountains, rivers and forests. The scenery in this film is truly impressive. The strength of her spirit at the end of the film is inspiring, because not everyone is capable of it.
I was very impressed by the sounds, very accurate, very correct. The buzzing of the opening and closing lightning of jackets and tents, how nasty the awning whistles when you run your palm over it, how poorly and hoarsely the tape recorders in cars play (given that the film is set in 1995) and how raindrops beat against the hood... all this is really worth watching.
The story is not so clear to me. Scenes with memories of the deceased mother hooked. She was 45, she went through many difficulties, lived very difficult, but remained optimistic, cheerful, knew how to love life and enjoy every moment. I knew that whatever happened was always for the best. And so the mother of the main character inspired and conveyed to me much more than Cheryl herself. As for my husband, I really didn’t understand much. I didn’t know why this story had to be put into a story. It didn’t play a role for me.
Maybe the genre is a drama, but for me it is presented badly. I was more inspired by the scenery, the sounds shown in the film by tourism and watching the heroine, abandoning urban pleasures and society, become "wild." That's really cool in the movie.
This film captured two of my favorite genres: drama and adventure. And it turned out, as they say, "hurrah." And they say that on the mistakes of others, you can not fill your own experience. To make mistakes, you have to make mistakes yourself. The film is about that.
The American version of the novel “Crime and Punishment” turned out, but fans of the domestic classic do not throw stones at me for such a comparison. The young and beautiful heroine in the past trampled a wide path along the field with rakes, planting drugs and ruining her marriage. And then a dear person died so inappropriately. The girl falls into depression and finds a way to atone for her sins in a difficult and long hike through the landscapes of the United States.
The movie is built nonlinearly and often gives flashbacks, from which it becomes clear why Cheryl decided to erase such beautiful legs for kilometers of roads. It's her way of getting back to life and proving to herself that she can't just break things. My vulnerable soul has been touched by history. That’s probably why I liked the movie. If I were a little more callous cracker, and from the dramatic story of a girl lost in her life, only a rather boring plot would remain.
I don’t recommend watching Wild in a good mood. Cinema is more life-philosophical than adventure, and all this journey of the young lady is just an entourage for wandering into her past mistakes. Optimism and faith in a bright future does not give. Rather, it leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste. Maybe it's just me, though. You will find something in it.
The film is not recommended for easy viewing. It raises deep themes, over which you involuntarily think together with the main character. Especially captivating and, at the same time, horrifying that all this happened in reality with the author of the book of the same name, which actually made this film.
In general, there are quite a lot of similar books and films where the characters, through overcoming some physical difficulties and suffering, come to a new life, rethinking everything that happened to them before. I liked such books as 'Shantaram', 'Walk in the Forests', 'Seekers. 28 famous travel writers...' The latter contains many different short stories that changed the lives of their authors. Interesting to read.
The actress, who played the main character, reveals to the audience from a completely new side - she is serious, dramatic, that somehow at first does not stick to her formed image. But the further you go, the more you get involved and get used to this new Reese Witherspoon.
Good and directorial work: beautiful plans of nature, extraordinary presentation, jumping from reality to the past and back.
I think that watching this film, everyone will think about their own and draw their own conclusions. Sometimes you really need to stop and think about your life. . .
Believe that I no longer need to reach for fish with my bare hands. To know that just to see this fish under the surface of the water is already enough. What is and is and is and is and is. This is my life and this is my life.
For a long time I wanted to see the film “Wild”, but all hands did not reach, and then found out that the film was based on the book and decided to first read it, and then watch the film. That's one thing to compare. I liked the book. The language is easy to understand. But it was incredibly difficult for me morally. The film, in my opinion, gathered all the best and gave even more emotions, excitement, awareness. Yes, something didn’t go into the movie, something went in, but a little bit different than the book and not with that consistency. I liked both actresses who played key roles, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. Reese played well, it was not for nothing that Cheryl saw only her in the main role of Herself. In the book I lacked emotions, but in the film this gap was filled. I've been vomiting since 15 minutes. After 20 minutes, I wanted to howl. Sountrek, who added atmosphere, director (Jean-Marc Valle, whom I already remember) and of course a wonderful source! All this together gave me a lot of emotions.
As beautiful as the movie was, it was hard to watch. It’s hard to hold your emotions back when you show something very similar to your life. In the moments that Cheryl experiences and shows us, the loss of the closest person, mother, everything loses color. Losing meaning. And you have to go very deep to understand what happened and how to live with something that nobody prepared you for. And the options are completely different. It took Cheryl 4 years, 7 months and 3 days to understand and realize this misfortune and all the ensuing ones. I am 7 years, 1 month and 19 days. Everyone's doing their best. The main thing is to understand when you are at the bottom, to understand that you have lost your way. Someone has friends, relatives and friends, just people who can help, and help, in the end. Someone's expecting a miracle. They are a miracle to themselves.
We lose everything in this life, something or someone, and the main thing is not to lose ourselves! My self. There are moments of oblivion, moments when you do not want to rise at all, but it is necessary for life, it is necessary and very necessary to rise and go on. To seek the path that leads from the thicket of the forest, leading to the light, to the exit, to you and your new life, a life without someone you have lost.
“There used to be an empty basin that took hundreds of years to fill. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t see it with my imaginable eyes. No mountain, no desolation, no empty basin. They just weren't here anymore. There was only the peace and immobility of the water, which became the mountain, the desolation and the empty basin after the healing began.
Sooner or later, we all have to go through our own personal “MTH”, everyone will have this chance. And there are only a few options: you either get off and don’t come back anymore, or you get off but come back to try to conquer this path again, or you go and go and go all the way. Go even if the toes fall off along the road, you will go even if the backpack behind the shoulders is unbearable and tends to the ground, even if the shoes cause unbearable pain and suffering and will walk, even if there are no shoes at all. Together with Cheryl, I came to the end.
