'It's All Her' is two films in one, one potentially good and one very bad. Bizarrely connecting, they formed a picture, mixing and as if encoding one into another, like the plot of the fictional series Real life, dreamed of by the main character.
Speaking of him. The main character is a standard bad-boy, the captain of the football team who made a bet with his best friend on a girl, quickly, so quickly out of the framework set by the plot that changes the plot from comic to dramatic. Here he smiles at himself in a frame on the wall and confuses the name of a friend, but he already creates an unplanned performance in the theater, literally dumping on the viewer all the unexpected depth of his hero. Surprise, it turns out that the captain of the football team is not an empty handsome bad boy, but a real teenager exploring himself in the pairs of "I - the world", "I - parents" and "I - others". He does this, by the way, much more successful than the main character, who only by the end of the film rocks her script frame.
What's the problem? There are not so many really deep characters in the cinema, if you carefully list - and there and there they seem to be present, but they either lack stamina of style, or pump up an unexpected ending. What caused this hero?
The movie itself.
You see, Robert Iskov's painting is a classic American high school rum, a mix of American Cinderella and Don't Be Born Beautiful. He assumed stupid jokes about schoolchildren, an “unexpected” turn with the flowering of the main character and, of course, the “correction” of the main character from bad guy to groom. But he did not assume the serious depth of Zack, the captain of the football team, who hides invitations to the university, breaks down on his father and, excuse me, “buys” the intricacies of modern arthouse theater, albeit inadvertently. It’s as if the film is telling us, ‘You’re watching an American comedy,’ and it can’t stand that statement by going beyond the limits it set itself. Is that good or bad? Not both.
Perhaps if the film had remained in the meaning of the “stupid romcom” that was for him, he would have lost the charm that has earned himself the predisposition of fans. Perhaps if the film went a little further than the clichéd school comedy, we would get a beautiful drama about teenagers, their place and self-determination in the world.
Perhaps it would be a film about one hero, completely devoid of the romantic component. Pay attention to how much time is devoted to the emotional experiences of the main character, in contrast to the heroine. An important part of her biography, even the foundational piece, we get a glimpse, in the middle of the film, by the time we were supposed to get to know her and love her. However, there is nothing to build love for her - it is not abandoned at the very beginning, it is not she who experiences mental confusion from growing up, it is not she who suffers from her deeds - she simply remains herself, only slightly embellished, but - unchanged as a character.
For a film that turned out to be too superficial for its main character, I can put 7/10 - for the fact that I have never met such a phenomenon before, and for the ball scene from Zach, the captain of the football team.
A charming movie, with, oh my God, the beautiful Freddie Prince Jr. He's the first reason I saw this melodrama eight years ago. Since then, many long periods of time have passed, during which I, with renewed interest and faded, in memory, pieces of the film, watched it again and again, falling in love with the film more and more.
A light comedy melodrama, about teenage problems. The gray mouse doesn't expect anyone like Zach to notice her. If they did not, they would not have spoken to each other. Detached from the handsome boy of the whole school, Lenny tries to plunge into his world of creativity, imagination and the other world. But, soon, Zaki intervenes in this world, becoming the main friend, or even a little more.
Funny jokes and courage of the actors cause admiration. The great play of the main characters, especially what flashes between them, becomes the dominant plot in this romantic comedy.
I advise everyone to view in a cozy atmosphere with coffee and plaid.
Five years ago I saw this movie for the first time. Today I decided to reconsider, because I remember very good impressions: light comedy melodrama and pleasant actors. To say that I am disappointed is to say nothing.
Lenny's a jerk? Are you crazy at all? Beautiful long hair, glasses only give personality, and her detachment from the rest is very commendable, given that you should not sink to a level lower than you. And most of the development is much lower than Lenny.
Zach, the main character, a nice guy. But I've never seen a bigger rag. Afraid to come, afraid to confess, afraid of everything. And only when Lenny threatens to fall into the clutches of the bad guy, he waits for her at home!
In general, the moral is this: the main character was stripped of her personality, her beautiful long hair and dragged into a wild hodgepodge of stupid elections of the prom queen, where Lenny can not win by all canons, because she is not one of those who like most. Glad she didn't give up her dream for a guy because we all know how it ends.
I'm running away, but back down
Her eyes are called again.
Her name follows me,
It pulls and pulls like a magnet.
For the fifth day, I do not sleep.
I think I'm going crazy!
And the head is not there.
It's all her!
The word "dispute" in the title of my review means a bet made between students containing the most unrealistic conditions. When you're dumped by the most beautiful girl in your class, what extreme is it that you throw yourself into? Making the most beautiful girl in the class even more beautiful than the one who did you the meanest! Someone calls it “American idiocy,” but it is also a youth comedy to show something unusual and crazy. Although this film can hardly be called a comedy, because if you want to laugh from the heart, then it is better to choose another film - here rather a youth melodrama. Not as banal and cheap as "You're an idiot!", and interesting, instructive and incredibly beautiful shot. Here you will see both dazzling views of the youth party, and excellent scenery of the institution in which the prom will be held, the queen of which our hero has pledged to make a nondescript “nerd”. Before you is a super hit, which was awarded the attention of the authors of the popular parody comedy "Neighborhood cinema", in which many youth melodramas and comedies fell under the distribution. And, if in the parody of 50/50 funny and idiotic jokes, then here, although not funny completely, but it is nice to look clearly.
The idea and plot from afar resemble the Soviet “Office novel”, in which Samokhvalov advised Novoseltsev to hit on the ugly boss to get a promotion. Here, the bet did not have any selfish goals, just the hero began to communicate with an ugly girl and make her a beauty, not because he fell in love, but only on an argument. And, since this is a movie, it is easy to guess (and this is not a spoiler at all) that, of course, the guy will still fall in love with the object of his forced attention. In the “Cinema of the Child”, the central parody was on this film, and laughed at it quite well, plus combined a parody of this film with the storyline of “Cruel Games” – another hit youth drama. But the image of a nondescript girl, who is from head to toe in study, is much better performed here than in a parody, although there, in theory, should have exaggerated this image of a shrimp even more. The original looks easy and unstressed, a beautiful picture pleases the eye, the film leaves a pleasant impression. There was a rumor that a remake of this comedy was planned, and judging by the comments to this news, few people wanted to watch one of their favorite comedies remake. Personally, I would be interested, on the contrary, to look at the new interpretation, as long as the remake turned out worthy - more humor and glamorous scenery. You can even improve this story, there would be a desire. But sometimes you will want to revise the original.
Based on Andersen's fairy tale "Despicable Duckling"
In the late 90s of the last century, well-known brothers-producers Bob and Harvey Weinstein arranged a dispute which studio to act as the main investor-creator of the youth romantic comedy with a fair share of the melodrama “It’s all her”: “Miramax” or “Dimension Films”. The latter won, although no one pinned special hopes on this tape, since at that time the genre of youth cinema was more attributed to secondary cinema and even cult horror films aimed at young audiences were not recognized as full-fledged products of cinema. This operational tendency was always reproached by a narrow circle of spectators, where such tapes could win great sympathy. But “Nightmare on Elm Street”, for example, or “Friday, the 13th” still found a response in the hearts of the audience, and “It’s all her” became a classic and example of a youth comedy about college, love, graduation and love again.
The most popular guy at school, Zack Sayler (Freddie Prince Jr.), unexpectedly loses his girlfriend Taylor (Jodie Lyn O’Keefe), who in turn was the most popular girl. She left Zack for the actor of the stupid show Brock Hudson (Matthew Lillard), his fame influenced the choice of the same stupid as the show Taylor. As a joke, Zach makes a bet with Dean Sampson (Paul Walker) that he will make any of the girls the prom queen. The choice fell on a closed and shunned company Lanie Boggs (Rachel Lee Cook), dreaming of becoming an artist. Zach begins to pursue her, although Lanie feels doubtful about Zach. You and I know exactly how this story will end. But even this knowledge does not make the picture bright in fairytale and cheerful in the way its characters behave, correlating their age and comparing Zack with Lanie with themselves.
Sometimes naive and sometimes even an artificial film quickly found its audience. The picture was invested $ 10 million, but in the world box office it collected more than 10 times more – is it not a sign of success? But the most important sign of success is that other films began to be equal to This Is All Her, and critics even introduced a new subgenre, calling it “teensploitation.” This is now, when you watch "It's all her" he seems to be riddled with clichés and templates, but, in fact, this picture brought out the main features of the subgenre, so you should treat it at least with respect. Some scenes of “It’s all her” from childhood, I personally remember. For example, when transformed into a stunning beauty Lanie goes down the stairs to the song “Kiss me”, and Zack, as well as screen father and brother Lanie freeze with their mouths open. Zack’s brilliant improvisation in the author’s local theater and his applause from the public are deserved. And finally, a crazy, somewhat sleek, but funny ending, which I recommend to watch for yourself, there is even room for emotion. By the way, M. Night Shyamalan claims that he wrote everything for the film, like this.
Freddie Prince Jr. is not so often engaged in new acting work, more engaged in voice acting. He received an invitation to star in This Is All of Her while filming the youth horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. And his character in horror could become the calling card of the actor, but Zach Sayler will always remain number one, especially in the cherished memories of women, when schoolgirls fell in love with him. Rachel Lee Cook was, from the very beginning, somewhat artificial in the image of a squirrel that was invented for her. It was noticeable that the Ugly Duckling would turn into the Beautiful Swan, but the very approach to how it would happen makes you enjoy the pleasant course of the film "It's All Her." And Prince Jr.'s pair with Lee Cook turned out very, very successful. And how many actors that we already know starred in the film in very small roles and in addition to the above are: Kevin Pollack, Anna Paquin, Kieran Culkin, Elden Henson, Gabrielle Union, Clea DuVall, Chris Owen, Milo Ventimiglia and even cameo Sarah Michelle Gellar! And among the famous music, we note the presence of Lil Kim and Usher. Do you really need to watch this movie?
An unexpectedly bright and sweet summer comedy about college and its students, who for the first time encounter a great feeling they did not expect. As the creators of the film did not expect that the tape will become genre-forming. But not only its display and plot "It's all her" takes its viewer, but also open and sensual play of actors. Who wouldn’t want to be Zach or Laney (after already knowing Zach) when they were in high school? You can even sometimes review, despite what age you are, it is always nice to feel yourself on the eve of prom. And I wanted to put “8”, but for the fact that the film created a special subgenre:

«These two opposites attract… but everyone`s trying to keep them apart!»
Even though I saw this movie a couple of years ago, I’m still in love with it. At first glance, it is simple and has not won any awards, but thanks to its insight and sensitivity, it is kept in my heart. It is not teeming with action, perhaps even stereotyped and stereotypical about teenagers. It is very pleasant and enjoyable to watch.
The plot accordingly is not intricate... “Beautiful Boy”, captain of the football team and also excellent student Zach Sayler (Freddie Prince Jr.), who was abandoned by the girl “Mis school” makes a bet with his friend that he will turn the tidy nerd Lenny (Rachel Lee Cook) in the “Queen of the school”. He had no idea he was the man he had been looking for all his life.
To be honest, things are predictable. You probably know how hard it is to create a romantic comedy. But believe me, this movie is really one of them.
Freddie and Rachel played very emotionally. In some cases, you can even cry. I think it was their performance that made this film really touching.
Anyway, I suggest you look. Since in my opinion this film is an example of high-quality romantic comedy, which I wish all today's "masterpieces" to take as an example.
10 out of 10!
"You didn't think..." Did you really think that? How nice...""
In fact, in a sense, the essence of the film is precisely this "(a)". The notorious boomerang effect, coupled with irreversible changes that occurred during the short, it would seem, time of its flight.
Again, you can recall the domestic masterpiece of 1961 under the name “Girls”. There, too, something similar, even in a sense more cynical (in my understanding, “make the queen of the school” and arrange so that “will run after me like a dog” – not the same thing) took place as a plot plot. And the further development of events went, in general, in a similar way.
That's all I got. The idea is not new, on the one hand, but not stupid. Time-tested, so to speak. As a result, the quality of filling and execution is crucial. And here, of course, the modern (relatively, of course) American product loses to our native film. What is typical with the years it begins to understand especially clearly.
What do I mean? General level of vulgarity, first of all. Of course, the picture currently being assessed is extremely far from the leading positions in this area. But an even greater chasm separates it from the film proposed for comparison.
Here, of course, it would be unwise to assign full responsibility to the authors - "oh, times, o manners" no one canceled, and in the Soviet taiga idyll of the early 60s in the entourage of an average American educational institution of the late 90s to believe would be extremely difficult. But I am convinced that a small number of moral and ethical changes to the picture would only benefit. By the way, in terms of reliability of what is happening, too. Or... The hero of M. Lillard is too disgusting, too strange (here, however, something depends on the quality of the translation, as it turned out) the union of the main character with his “former”, his own unconditional authority is too suspicious, for example, in a disgusting episode in the school cafeteria, etc.
Considering the above and taking into account the classic romantic ending... I propose to focus on the above-average rating, i.e.
This Is All of Her is a 1998 American youth melodrama that turned out to be a cute and interesting film. The film is positive and relevant, and that catches. We see the main character of this story. He is the authority of the school and the most desirable guy. It turns out that he argues with a friend that he will turn a gray mouse into a prom queen. They choose a girl, and we see that this adventure turns into something more. A cute girl charms the main character, and he falls in love with her. We see a sincere youth story with a good script, great actors and a memorable song “Kiss Me”.
Freddie Prince Jr. is a good American actor, and at one time he played many roles in youth films. In this melodrama, he looked good in the lead role. He has an actor’s face and a Hollywood smile, so he is a success. Rachel Lee Cook is the one I remember after this movie. She's a cute actress, and she was charming in that melodrama. It was also a pleasure to see Paul Walker. He was a wonderful actor and a favorite of millions of women's hearts.
This film is an easy melodrama for those who love youth films. I liked the movie and I recommend it.
Upgraded Cinderella, as always... I understand that. But the film is good.
There is, of course, no zest in it that would distinguish it from others. But I stand out for myself. Maybe it's the actors. I like Freddie Prince Jr. And the girl is very nice for the role of the notorious Cinderella.
As idealistic, as sublime as other films on the subject. But maybe a little more than them? The picture is not without sarcastically-good moments (the episode with pizza), when “good conquers evil.”
True, deliberate replay ... that's what's bad. In some episodes. All these preparations for the graduation, funny, I must say, agitation, humiliation by the queen of the newly appeared princess. I don’t know, it’s all a necessary element, of course, but it always seemed shameful, bad... but necessary. Because the theme is this, because there would be no Cinderella with her humility and kindness, and there would be no happy ending.
Although the happy ending here isn't complete. The newfound happiness is still not supplemented by the formal triumph of the newly appeared contender for the role of queen over the school standard - Taylor. And that's good. Because it's not as predictable as I expected.
It's a good movie. I returned to him 3 or 4 years later and did not regret the moments of my recent stupid childhood, when I still believe in such fairy tales.
One of the most beloved and adored films. Kind, gentle, caring, with a dose of sarcasm, peppered with teenage antics.
In this film, I met Freddie Prince Jr., who struck me at the heart with his smile. An ordinary guy from a wealthy family, popular, beautiful, charming, meets with a “dummy”.
Rayche Lee Cook. A cute girl from a simple family, who became an early mother for her brother and father. With a talent that hides in the back, like herself, because: “I’m unlikely to be lucky, I have to think about family.”
A banal story, worn by many directors, shown to us from all sides, but the film “It’s all her”, for me personally is a classic. Classic Cinderella, only in a modern way. A classic of the '90s, with an incendiary prom dance, guys who aren't such assholes if you look closely.
It's a classic in the sense that these movies are made every single day, but this one is a big deal. This one isn't "dummy" to me. Probably, only watching and sometimes reviewing this film, sometimes I also begin to dream about such a happy ending.
Naive, simple, banal film, in which the actors played perfectly, which does not cause smiles: “Ah, we saw, we know”, a film that can be seen no time.
10 out of 10
I have repeatedly noticed that the popularity of the film does not depend on the plot, not on the director’s production, and not even on the appearance of the actors. It depends on the emotions that the actors themselves feel, on whether they believe in what they play.
And that's where they believe. She is. Freddie Prince Jr. is of course a pretty and cute guy, quite talented portraying a narcissistic handsome man who has changed dramatically because of love, but if it were not for Her, this miniature artist with a delicate soul, the film would not be anything. She plays so sincerely, with tears, that this film I want to watch. I want to look her in the eye and believe her.
Nowhere else did not particularly observe this actress, and I think with age she became the same as most stamped Hollywood chicks, but here you can feel freshness, unspoiled and full return. For the sake of her play, I think it is worth watching even such a seemingly beaten and littered plot about teenage love.

What I love about youth films about American schoolchildren is that there is a whole culture in American schools, a set of activities that we have almost no development, and which I really like. In particular, the cultivation of sports and all amateur activities. The most prominent boys are sure to play American football, baseball or go swimming on a college scholarship. Botans play chess, and creative individuals practice DJing, singing, dancing and acting in the local school theater. The most prominent girls are in the support group of these athletes, and crammings prepare for conferences and scientific debates.
Children are prepared for adulthood from all sides and from all fronts, thereby initially deducing their belonging to one or another informal social group. And the graduation point with the solemn election of the king and queen of the school, together with the preliminary election campaign of them, is generally a grandiose tradition to the envy of those whose schools do not.
In almost all youth films, regardless of genre, there are boys-athletes, cheerleaders, children-chubbers and outsiders of different sexes. "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Screams," "Urban Legends," "Cherry Falls," "Faculty" and "Immortal Souls" are "school thrillers," "Romy and Michelle at the Alumni Meeting," "Love Virus," "Cinderella Story" and "10 Reasons for My Hate" - "school comedies," and a bunch of examples of intermediate subgenres in the style of "Cruel Games" and "Spetney," where children are slightly older, and the emphasis from studying is shifted from the middle stage of relationships, which are actively involved in the development of a person in the middle age. By the way, all the films listed by me are my favorite, and I don’t want to talk about junk crafts, which are a hundred times more.
“It’s All Her” is an example of a good “school” romantic comedy, where a bad boy falls in love with an extremely positive nerd girl. Oh, that's pretty. We watch over and over again, and we are not happy. Of course, the stuffed nerd girl eventually turns from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan, and the boys are bad, from a pathetic bastard to an honest and noble knight. And, of course, initially the star handsome guy, hanging out with the brightest girls, pays attention to the ugly duckling only because he argued with friends, and then, falling in love, crawls on his knees and begs: “Then I didn’t know you as well as now!” I was a scumbag, a scumbag!, etc.
Everything is always the same, but if the film is made interestingly, with taste and charm, and in the center of its cute, disposed characters, time after time to watch how the children's comedy of positions inexorably rolls to the happy ending is damn nice. The showdowns traditionally end at the school prom, where girls in evening dresses, and boys in tuxedos, and popular hits-slows pour from the speakers.
Leni Box, the heroine of Rachel Lee Cook, due to the natural appearance of the actress herself, was a beauty even before her eyebrows were plucked, her face was painted and dressed in a red short cocktail dress. Miniature, thin girl in glasses, whose appearance tried in vain to hide, focusing on the rich inner world, was so cute, touching and truly beautiful at the very beginning of the film that the paint / plaster was almost superfluous. A talented artist, smart and serious girl, used to taking care of her brother and father since childhood, she had every chance to fall in love with the hero Freddie Prince Jr., without even that stupid argument, according to which the potential king had to make the queen of the ball out of a dummy in 5 weeks.
And Freddie Prince Jr., a somewhat sweet, but very cute boy from a good family – the second after Michael Chad Murray from “Cinderella Story” the main bad guy, who in fact was not any bad guy. An excellent student without bad habits, the pride of his father, a candidate for any prestigious university in the country, who, due to his soft and indecisive nature, had his own cockroaches and problems with his ancestors. The same age-old pressure: “Son, you must follow in the footsteps of your father,” in which he did not want to follow, and he lacked the courage to declare it. How bad is he? Badish is the hero of Ryan Philippi in “Cruel Games”, badish is this obscene hero of “Gossip”, and these positive, combed on the slash boys are the same nerds, except that rich-looking, and therefore girls like.
By the way, the hero of Freddie Prince Jr. with Leni Box was very lucky. Not only because in the end he got a dream girl, but also because he did not show special zeal and effort to earn her forgiveness, and Leni nevertheless forgave him. There is no way to dig the ground, but the forged fences-fences to gnaw their teeth - came, crumpled from foot to foot, and now they kiss him. Lucky you, boy, you can see your smile is really luxurious.
If the clapper is guilty, you need to somehow stand out: from the stage loudly chanting I love you or rushing into the legs of the offended lover in public, preferably at the same prom, and Freddie got his on a dish somewhere in the back, by the pool, bypassing the popular process of public repentance. Maybe, of course, for rich boys to start dating a girl not of their circle / social class is a feat, respect and respect, but I still like loud confessions and apologies. But it's me and I'm not Leni Box.
The result: a pleasant youth comedy without unnecessary vulgarity and toilet humor. Kind, sweet, without much frills, but gathered in one place a lot of recognizable young actors, each of whom later got his own project. Matthew Lilard, Jody Lyn O’Keeffe, Paul Walker, Anna Paquin certainly got, but as for the main pearls: Freddie Prince Jr., except for “I know what you did last summer” and a couple of similar comedies, can not boast of anything, as well as the wife of the actor “I” vampire fighter “/I” Sarah Michelle Gellar, who flashed in the frame. Rachel Lee Cook, I remember, lit up in “Dangerous Truth” with the same Ryan Filippi and, I think, in “14:11”, and more – I do not remember. Although, the girl is very nice, and I sincerely wish her success.

This is my favorite movie. A wonderful romantic comedy! Freddie Prince Jr., Paul Walker, Rachel Lee Cook very well conveyed the images of their characters. Viewing the picture improves the mood. By the way, the prom dance is super!
