“Norm and Invincible” is the debut feature-length of the Spanish studio Splash Entertainment. Before that, she did only children's television animated series, so it is not difficult to guess that the full-length from them will not be very high-quality. “Norm and Invincible” turned out to be a one-time family cartoon for low-demand viewers. What's the matter, let's see...
The plot was ambiguous. The idea is pretty good, but... Stamps, blunders and shoals here at least ample. The lyaps here are only about 30-40 for the entire cartoon, probably (I will not spoil them). In general, the cartoon is not particularly boring, but absurdity, blunders and shortcomings spoil everything.
It's a bit of a joke. I never smiled for the whole viewing. And the other downside is the vulgar jokes. They are inserted here absolutely not in the topic - the characters just for no reason fart and write.
Things are very bad with the characters. The only nice, successful character is Norm. Lemmings turned out to be frankly unsuccessful, just a pathetic parody of minions. People got even worse -- not only is their animation ugly. Their actions are also very implausible, and they look very delusional.
As for the graphics – well, here we will not scold the creators, the budget of the cartoon speaks for itself. But the truth is, it's no better here than it was in Monsters Corporation 15 years ago. People here turned out ugly, but the bear Norm turned out, not only that the only successful character of the cartoon, so also quite beautiful.
In general, “Norm and Invincible” will work only, as a maximum, for one time. He came out almost not boring, with various morals, but he is too “implausible” and delusional. If you are not a very demanding viewer, if you really like DreamWorks cartoons, then you can watch Norma once. The rest of you are welcome to pass by.
I rarely write reviews due to natural laziness and innate tolerance, but watching this creation last weekend forced me to register on this site and take up the pen. Here we go.
I’ll start with the fact that this cartoon went because of the score on the Movie Search 8.6 at the time of film selection. I send rays of negativity to those who wrote laudatory reviews, and remind you of the wheel of samsara and bad karma.
So, immediately striking is the passion of the creators of the cartoon “Madagascar”. This is a little angular graphics, and the brightness of the picture and the main character who tries to copy the lion Alex with his dancing, good-naturedness (and even roar!), and lemmings, in which the creators of this creation tried to cram both the sweetness of local lemurs and the coolness of penguins. What is there to say when the main villain is simply written off from the animal inspector from the 3rd part, with his squeezes and jumps. But! Everything that looks good in Madagascar, here acquires some grotesquely unsuccessful features.
Let's start with heroes.
Norm. A more stupid character is hard to find in modern cinema. All he does throughout the film is dance the shake and reflect. Is it possible that there are Indian manufacturers among the creators? Stay with us, Norman, you will be our king.
Lemmings. It is clear that they were introduced to the plot for the fan, as a squirrel-Scrat and other humorous characters. But, creators, the question to you - do you really think that urinating, farting and burping rodents, this is exactly what you need?? Did you show it to your kids?
A villain. Omitting the initially failed plan of the main bad guy, and his, frankly, not outstanding ability to sell (and how did the capital get? Inheritance, no other way, you'd at least have thought through his story. Why does he need this Arctic if he sells at home in the Bahamas, why does he need a bear in a cage under guard, after all!
Plot.
He's not here. Suffice it to say that if the main character had not sailed into the city, everything would have calmed down by itself.
Music.
Turn on Europe+
There are just a wild number of blunders, stupidities and other negativity (downside, the lion dad does not bother to check whether there is a house over the mountain, but believes the lemmings and appoints a son). There are tons of that... I found a plus, though! Throughout the film, I was afraid that our animators were involved, but they were not!
Bottom line.
I love cartoons, but I always go to them with fear. I always think the movie will disappoint me. And all the cartoons made me happy. They were all good and interesting in their own way. Until today. We were bored and decided to go to the movies, we should have missed. Our choice fell on "Norm and Indestructible."
It is a cartoon about a bear, “who is not like everyone else” the son of the king of Antarctica, who went to New York to destroy the plans of one businessman to sell and build houses in Antarctica. How to end this, with the permission to say cartoon, you will know the minute on the thirtieth and all the actions taken by the characters you will also guess. Every sentence is a cliché.
As usual, I was insecure, but based on past experience, when I was missing out on a lot of interesting work, I dropped the doubts. That's too bad. We were late for the session and missed some of the backstory, but we weren't upset. It doesn't really matter. It was a good start, an interesting idea. Until the heroine with red hair appeared on the screen. This “marketing director” had completely unnatural hand movements and behaved in the most predictable way. But that, too, was endured. The bear was sent to New York City to save Antarctica. And here we were, the most upset. The process of how the bear adapted to the new climate was not shown to the environment at all. That is, he just came and immediately knew everything, understood and the city that he saw for the first time in his life completely frightened him! It was so stupid that it drove us crazy the whole session!
The antagonist, who at first seemed to me an interesting character, turned out to be very stupid, although he was presented as a brilliant businessman. He and the "marketing director" couldn't even tell the difference between a real bear and a man in a suit. Apparently, they were unable to make a logical chain of two links.
By the way, these "Indestructible" turned out to be lemmings. It seems a good opportunity to add jokes, gags, make them interesting characters like cute and funny minions, but the creators decided to make cute little animals angry, nasty, farting and urinating in the aquarium creatures! This is just disgusting and designed for cattle and children up to three years old, as even my four-year-old brother did not laugh and died of boredom! Jokes are also designed for unknown people.
Finally, you will be killed by a disgusting dubbing, as if tuning, the voice of a bear and the squeaky voice of the daughter of the “marketing director”, who always pulls this vile “moochka”. And it seems that he is also a child prodigy, but he is not able to distinguish a real bear, and in general some unpleasant heroine.
No character evokes empathy, and apparently all the time that could be spent on the development of the characters to the cartoon became watchable, was spent on the scenes of urinating lemmings.
This is the most horrible and frustrating cartoon, and for the first time, I’m sorry that I spent my time and money on it.
3 out of 10
for an idea designed for older children, but implemented in a cartoon for mentally retarded cattle and infants.
Trevor Wall’s “Norm from the North” despite a number of inconsistencies, contradictions in the logic of actions, personally pleased me with the exorbitant level of positive mood, and inadequate behavior in the spirit of the “Penguins of Madagascar”, even though it is very far from commercially successful analogues. Associatively, in my memory, another comparison popped up with the cult, all of us beloved “Umka”, and with the series “The Adventures of Lo-lo”.
The adventures of the polar bear, who strives to save his home from the hands of businessmen, are clearly motivated, although presented very straightforwardly. Of course, if you want, you can find fault with everything that is in this cartoon! Starting from a trivial plot, ending with the quality of computer animation, my sober critical eye was noticeable a number of errors, by the way, why pick on something that does not pretend to be anything, and made on the lap?
This is not a brilliant magician “Pixar”, this is not a popular “Disney”, the creators of this cartoon could see that there was neither enough money nor time to embody on the screen a more qualitative story that could firmly touch both a small viewer and an adult. But it seems to me that if there are small, bastard lemmings in the cartoon, which you look at as something unimaginably stupid, but so wildly cute, then it is because of this that I appreciate cheap animation, and that is why I will stand up for it!
As for the message itself, and everything else, the animated film provides an obvious but much-needed lesson for children and adults. In itself, it is just a reminder that you need to fight for your home by any means, and it is for the thought said, banal and having nothing outstanding, but quite necessary, I appreciated this cartoon.
Oh yeah, Rob Schneider as a polar bear, that's brilliant! Turn on music, dance "Arctic Shake" and enjoy the lemmings urinating in the aquarium!
To be honest, if you want your children to have mental disorders, let them watch these cartoons.
Throughout the film, I got the impression that its creators were under some drugs. Because it seems that either the characters have severe mental disorders, or they themselves are under something.
You know, there are very funny, soulful cartoons, with a good plot, which reveals quite serious topics. Norm and Indestructible is not one of them. The topic of environmental protection in recent decades is very relevant. But the plot of the cartoon in a strange way reveals it. Bears speaking human language, seal dancing and a creepy killer whale with a Cheshire cat smile. Mr. Greene, who wants to be admitted to a mental institution. Little Olympia, who is the only one who understands that the bear is real. Jokes below the belt are not designed for a children's audience. What is the scene in which the lemmings do their business in the aquarium? Norma's constant display of the bear's fifth point doesn't add enthusiasm either. Apparently, the creators decided that the toilet theme is very funny for children, so it should be developed. A lot of violence. For example, the same killer whale first dances with seals, and then eats one of them. And this moment is presented as a joke. Or unfortunate lemmings, which are tested for strength throughout the cartoon. The dialogues of the characters are built on stupid, template phrases with pseudophilosophical overtones.
I’m not saying that animation is bad. But this budget could have been better. People look scary. The actions of the heroes are poorly drawn, their movements and gestures look torn and twitched. Bear, sorry for the expression, frankly "styling." Some characters have a squint.
I love movies and the joy that comes with watching them. But I and my friends couldn’t wait to see the end of this amazing animated film. In the end, the thought arose simply to leave, to run away, to quickly forget everything you saw. The only thing that pleased was the voice of grandfather Nikolai Drozdov. But even this plus is not the merit of the director.
Watch with your children only kind, bright cartoons that teach good. “Norm and Indestructible” are not worth watching.
I like cartoons: they are fun, often kind, sometimes with great plots and unpredictable actions. But “Norm and the Invincibles” has everything to spoil the impression, which happened from the first minutes.
Actors: a failed bear, disgusting lemmings, a millionaire loser, a marketing director and a little girl with an IQ under 300.
Plot: Take the idea of saving the world from children’s paintings, add to it adult ambitions for wealth and get a crazy mixture that will not please either. The actions of the heroes are either completely ridiculous or surpass the genius of all known scientists. Otherwise, how can you explain the fact that Mr. Green can’t tell the difference between a bear and a man in a suit, but looks into the future better than any psychic. Arguments that this is a cartoon, it is children, do not count. It is necessary to determine what audience it is designed for.
Throughout the show, we are stuffed with incredibly stupid phrases that are trying to pass off as jokes, like “Ice under my arm,” “in the name of trout,” “KinA will not.” This can be appreciated only by children under 6, laughing at all the cool words and combinations. Again, there are disagreements. On the one hand, primitive jokes, on the other hand, very clever statements about marketing (I wonder how many 6-year-olds know what this means?) and the mention of Scorsese (the same question).
It is also worth noting that the film was developed in conjunction with India, which means that music and dance will become an integral part of it. "Arctic Shayk" is even included in the description. But how interesting would you be to see a third of the time a bear would be pointlessly twisting a fifth dot in front of a screen? Decide for yourself.
I've never been a scolder before, well, it's the first time. This is the worst I've ever seen. If you are over 6 years old, don’t waste your time trying to get down to the level of primitive humor. You will not learn or see anything new.
This is what happens when a man invades the Arctic!
The inexorable development of scientific and technological progress is gradually bringing our planet to that alarming threshold, after which it will not be so easy to return everything back. A person has little space for life, and he tries to master uncharacteristic territories. We can’t afford to colonize the Arctic, but who knows what will happen in the future. And then a natural disaster that can affect both the lives of the inhabitants of the local fauna and the planet as a whole cannot be avoided. Many scientific papers have been written on this topic, countless different programs have been filmed, but the problem continues to be relevant. It was on its basis that a new colorful cartoon “Norm and Invincible” was created, describing a possible disaster in a light, laid-back language that can interest both younger viewers and their parents.
As for the plot itself, it introduces us to a huge polar bear named Norm (in the original voiced by Rob Schneider). Being completely unlike his brothers, the friendly giant tries to be friends with all the animals that inhabit the Arctic and nearby waters. Relatives now and then laugh with Norm, considering him completely unprepared for life in such a harsh environment, but he does not care, because at least he has friends. Let most of them be lemmings and other animals, which the polar bear at the time to perceive as food. The great hour for our hero comes when man invades the Arctic. Greedy businessman Mr. Green decides that he has the right to become the undivided owner of permafrost, selling off parts of the continent to his rich companions and other people who want to snatch a tidbit from this wonderful land. To watch from the sidelines for such a sad enterprise animals can not and decide to send to the den of people local troops led by Norm. He is the only one who can help in this situation. And there is no doubt that he will try to do everything possible so that bears, penguins, lemmings and other animals do not feel threatened in their home.
Despite the fact that “Norm and Indestructible” was filmed without the support of major Hollywood studios, this project is able to attract considerable attention. First, its merits should include a rather serious general theme associated with the problems of flora and fauna. Secondly, surprisingly high-quality animation always pleases the eye. Yes, perhaps not in all scenes of the graphic drew every detail of the interior or every single hair of animals, but for the most part it is very professional and full of various finds. And, thirdly, “Norm and the Invincible” boasts excellent humor, built on amusing comic sketches with the main characters in the middle. Do not worry that the child will not understand this or that joke. In “The Norm and the Invincible”, everything is extremely accessible and clear. No sharp hints and rudeness in the cartoon is not expected. And it's a joy.
Separately, I would like to praise a worthy domestic voiceover. As you know, in the original voices of the leading characters belong to recognized stars, including the already mentioned Rob Schneider, as well as Ken Jeong and Bill Nighy. Our guys also did not fail and were able to create a palette of voices full of liveliness and enthusiasm, creating the impression that the cartoon was originally shot in Russian. I was pleased to participate in the project of the famous presenter Nikolai Drozdov! Who better than him to voice the animals he has devoted his whole life to.
In the end, I want to say that “Norm and Invincible” is not a stupid, eventful cartoon that reminds adults and teaches children that it is not necessary to run into the territory of wild animals, taking away their house, because there is a possibility that we will make an irreparable mistake. So I recommend “Norm and Indestructible” as an excellent and, most importantly, instructive comedy entertainment. Good to see you!
