United States; mid-40s of XX century
Mike (Glenn Ford) is a simple and poor hard worker who arrived in a completely unfamiliar city where he knows no one, in search of work and a better life.
Paula (Janice Carter) is a waitress in a bar who pays attention to Mike and takes an active part in his fate, for which she has her own reasons.
Steve / Barry Sullivan / Vice President of the Bank, married but has a mistress – Paula; ambitious and not the most honest person
I have to say, the film managed to surprise me, or rather, the development of events. Some of the twists were completely unexpected, as I was attuned to a simple picture. It is not difficult, but very interesting.
The characters in the film are quite black and white, except perhaps for Paula, who I couldn’t understand until the end. I don’t think I can say I understand it either.
The film is short, but retains the viewer’s interest until the end. I got a great pleasure, because my love for the Hollywood classics does not disappear, but only strengthens with each new picture of this category.
In some places, the tapes were too noticeable. But I didn't pay much attention to it. But what I turned to was the growth of the main characters. The fact is that according to the script - and Paula says this, emphasizing this fact - Mike was needed by the couple because he was the same height and build as Steve.
In one scene, Paula is significantly lower than Mike. But the rest clearly show that they are about the same height, but Steve is taller than Mike. I can't say that this observation really blurred the impression, but this feature drew my attention to myself. I have no complaints about the film, I liked it.
