A Triptych of Horror Without Horror Mocumentary genre over the past couple of years has evolved from an innovative variety of horror to something familiar and operational. Numerous parts of Paranormal Phenomenon and its various imitations deprived the mocumentaries of any originality, because there are no new themes, no interesting and exciting directing in most such films at all and everything is secondary.
The fashion for pseudo-documentary has reached Asian countries, many horror films of which are very interesting samples of the genre since the 60s, if we take into account Japanese cinema.
Thailand, however, in the field of horror films has achieved very modest results, because I took to view the film "Heaven and Hell" 2012, filmed by director Yülert Sippapak, much pleasure to deliver failed, because he, firstly, was made in the form of an anthology consisting of three novels, none of which is really remembered due to the fading of the plot in each of them and are an example of a pseudo-documentary film, and each novel is a certain recording from CCTV cameras, the recording is not very high quality and too rough for a picture, even with a share of horror or a similar genre. Of course, the idea of the filmmakers to show Paradise and Hell on Earth in their various manifestations is commendable and carries an original shade, but its implementation leaves much to be desired and the only advantages of the almanac were a good performance of actors and a melodic soundtrack. It makes no sense to consider each of the novels separately, because mostly they are dominated by familiar themes of ghosts, revenge of otherworldly forces, incarnations of various demons, which are realized absolutely faintly, without intriguing plot twists. In addition, if these novels were shorter for at least ten minutes, the film would benefit from this much and would be more interesting.
So, “Heaven and Hell” is a very boring and dull Thai horror almanac, which I do not recommend even for burnt lovers of horror films and Asian cinema.
