Teenage secrets British youth drama The Falling had a curious history, and the film itself claimed to be something psychological and profound, but everything turned out to be even. To put it bluntly, this film did not work. The idea was interesting, and the actresses were successful, but the direction gave a blow, and the film failed.
In this story we see two teenage girls Lydia and Abby. It's 1969, they're in a girls' school. Young people are just beginning to grow up and learn a lot of new and interesting things. Abby dominates the friendship, and she's already gained more experience. The girl examines her body and plunges into her sexuality and desires. Soon something happens, and at school all the girls begin to faint. What happened? Lydia is trying to find answers to all her questions. . .
The main roles here went at that time to very young British actresses Maisie Williams and Florence Pugh. If Macy already knew the whole world on the cult series “Game of Thrones”, then for Florence Pugh it was a debut in the movie. Quite the opposite impression was formed about both actresses from this film.
As I said, the idea was not bad, but the director failed to bring it to the screen. The film by female director Carol Morley at first seems very mysterious and in the process intriguing and interesting, but it is not. In fact, the film turned out to be empty and sucked out of a finger: watching it to the end, you immediately want to forget about it, you experience something unpleasant. And I'm not talking about the story itself, but how it was presented to us.
When watching, there was a sense of playfulness and theatricality. Some scenes were inconclusive, and the ending of the film was discouraging and stupid. This teenage movie is disappointing, and in general it is even really unpleasant.
The only thing I liked about this movie was Florence Pugh. The young actress played cleanly, and it is on her character that the whole film is held. If it wasn't for her, I don't think it's worth watching this thing through. With Pew I wanted more and more scenes.
As for Maisie Williams, we all love her on Game of Thrones and her character Arya Stark is wonderful. She played her in the series chic, which can not be said about the heroine Lydia in the Fall. In this film, the aspiring actress was terribly, just terribly overplayed. On some scenes I just wanted to close my eyes and forget about what I saw.
It seems that the film is such a large-scale, and they worked on it for a long time, everything was thought out, but the psychological teenage film did not work. We see porridge in this film, in which mixed and not mixed. I just want to say thank you to this movie for the fact that it opened the viewer Florence Pugh - for this we shake his hand.
The Fall is a failed British teen drama in the genre of thriller and detective in 2014. The result, a murky, paranoid film, upset, and it only got a headache. The movie is dubious, and the opinion to it is contradictory, but I know for sure that I will not watch it a second time for anything.
In general, I say no to this picture.
