Jean Erso is the daughter of the Death Star's chief engineer, who is forced by the Empire to work on pain of death. Jean Erso's mother was killed while trying to resist, and the girl herself hid. After her father was taken away, Jean Erso was taken by a rebel leader. Once again, when Jin Erso is imprisoned, the rebels rescue her and tell her that her father relayed a message through an escaped Imperial pilot that reveals the vulnerabilities of the Death Star. Destroying this planetary weapon can only be done by drawing drawings. It is the extraction of these drawings that this story is devoted to.
First of all, “Rogue One” is about a variety of people (and not only) who cannot put up with the tyranny of the Empire, established a dictatorship in which they can use inhuman methods and take away freedom to achieve greatness and control over the entire Galaxy. Perhaps this is because I am an anarchist by nature, but I am moved to the core by a story in which people bravely die for freedom and hope in victory over complexed scum with a thirst for power and sheep who believe in their fairy tales of order and peace.
Despite that, I can't help but see the many holes in the plot, the silly moments in the interaction between the characters. "Star Wars" remains an implausible fairy tale with a simple moral for a teenager. Personally, however, I'm much more interested in watching a spy, a marginalist, a deserter, a robot and two bums rescue the Death Star blueprints than watching the Jedi family fights. Although, of course, Revenge of the Sith for me remains the best film on SW and the best space opera.
Rogue One, in my opinion, is the last great Star Wars movie, special effects, planetary landscapes, scenery of an exorbitant level of quality. Despite the fact that the lightsaber is exposed only once at the end of the film, the beauty of Star Wars does not go away and seems even special, it is still romantic, but less fabulous. The feeling of hope is stronger when watching. The atmosphere without the Jedi is not only not lost, but even better than in other films on SW, it is different and more complex.
The above characters are very different from each other, their images are very colorful. The antagonist is not something interesting until the very end, when the fate of the character closes.
This review was written after the release of the first season of the series “Andor”. I can’t say that after watching the series, the film itself becomes more interesting, if only because the interest is so strong. However, I recommend watching both if you are interested in this series of films/series.

For the mythology of “Star Wars” is of particular importance the destruction of the first “Death Star”, which was an example of how tyranny in the Galaxy will end inexorably and sooner or later democracy will prevail. However, for a very long time fans of the franchise did not know exactly how the rebels managed to get the plans of the huge station and what the spies of the Alliance had to do for this. And in 2016, the blockbuster “Rogue One” was released on the screens of the whole world, which is rightly considered one of the best films in the entire franchise.
Shortly before the well-known events near the moon Yavin-4, the rebels rescued from prison the criminal Jean Erso, who once served in a group of radical extremists led by Seo Guerrera. Erso's rebels need her to get in touch with her father, a brilliant scientist who is tinkering with the Empire in a secret laboratory and is suspected to be a deadly weapon of unprecedented proportions. Pope Jin once escaped from the Empire, but he was returned to the service and now he wants revenge on his enemies by giving important information to the rebels.
However, it turns out that it is not so easy to find out all the details of what Galen Erso creates, since So Guerrera is again involved in the case. Meanwhile, the Empire has almost completed the creation of its Death Star, and although there are still some shortcomings in it, Director Krennik, the project manager, seeks to show its power to the Emperor himself as soon as possible. This means that Jean Erso and her new companions in the Rebellion have very little time to give the Galaxy a chance for salvation.
Interestingly, Gareth Edwards’s film has no Jedi or other familiar details that set the Star Wars franchise apart from other science fiction. But I think it went a long way because we saw new heroes and the galaxy from the other side. After all, the story of George Lucas is rich in Jedi and it is good that the producers found the courage to release this film at the box office and it was successful not only in terms of box office, but also a dramatic story.
But still, without the Force and lightsabers here, things could not do, and on special reshoots, the authors returned to the active action of Darth Vader, who finally showed all his incredible power on the big screen. It has never been presented to us in such an angry way before, so the film will definitely delight its fans.
Rogue One, I think, is a perfect example of what Star Wars should be, which can bring something new to a story that has been stuck in one place for a long time. I wish you the most pleasant viewing, because this is a movie that simply cannot but cause the audience emotions.

The film can truly be called a ray of hope. First, because it is a full preface to A New Hope. And secondly, for a long time I really did not want to watch “Rogue”, it was done only about six months after its release. Just episode 7 made such a bad impression that after that there was no desire to see new projects in Star Wars. Allegedly, what can you expect after this, especially from the spinoff? Fortunately, these judgments were a huge mistake, and getting to know Rogue gave me hope that the franchise is still alive.
First of all, I would like to note that this is one of the most serious (if not the most) projects in the WWF. It is not littered with jokes, plot armor, frankly naive moments. It's a full-fledged war drama, albeit fantastic. At the same time, very expensive, shot on a scale, with modern special effects. I like both action and drama lovers. Yes, it’s not what many people appreciate about Star Wars, the Jedi-Sith standoff. However, for this you can not blame “Rogue”, because it was not positioned as a film in the spirit of the numbered episodes of the saga.
Secondly, the film is very good at explaining to many previously obscure moments in the plot of Episode 4, which partly seemed illogical and naive. Now, at least, the essence of the attack on the Death Star in “New Hope” looks much more adequate and realistic.
As a minus, perhaps, you can name too many characters (we are talking about the squad “Rogue One”), which are trying to show significant. Do not forget that for one film to tie the viewer to so many figures at once is impossible, because of this, the film is even to watch and interesting, but the attention is scattered and, as a result, all members of the squad, except for Jean and Cassian, becomes just spit.

Rogue One, has an almost speaking name, because it really stands alone among the full-length tracks on the SV from the Disney studio.
After the release of the Force Awakens, no one particularly expected that the story of stealing the drawings of the death star will cause large-scale interest.
But Gareth Edwards and Tony Gilroy shot not just a good picture, but one of the best in the history of this universe.
Tellingly, Rogue One combined two interesting things in my opinion: a space opera and a mundane military movie.
But therein lies the drawback of this film. It is neither a cosmic fairy tale nor a full-fledged drama. But still, the synthesis can be called successful, because on the output we got a fresh, bright look at the world of a distant galaxy.
We can say that putting the focus not Jedi and Sith, but ordinary people, the authors made the heroes understandable to everyone. It is easier for the viewer to identify with the characters, and understand that for the sake of legendary victories in the original trilogy, someone whose name will not even be remembered will have to not just go through trials, but literally sacrifice everything that is.
Despite the fact that the film had reshoots, the plot is built quite organically. The story itself is simple, but it finally closes the gap with the notorious vulnerability of the death star, gives a lot of interesting and new locations, the narrative retains the dynamics, and in some moments holds in high tension. In addition, closer to the finale, we are waiting for one of the best space battles in Star Wars. This is a great merit of the cameraman Greg Fraser and composer Michael Giacchino, perfectly complementing the picture with music.
One significant joint is CGI graphics, which in digitizing the face of one of the characters very cuts the eye. But the film itself is so captivating that it can be forgiven for the sake of the story itself.
The film's finale can only be applauded as it does a few important things: first, developing in a dramatic way, it challenges Disney's plush image, which is already commendable. Secondly, beautifully brings the plot to the very beginning of a New Hope. And of course, reanimates the image of Darth Vader. Only two scenes with him are worth more than many others combined.
And even more remarkable, I think, is how the Force is portrayed in the film. Relying only on the faith of the character played by Donnie Ian, and his benefit passage during the battle on Scarif, which is breathtaking.
As a result, it turned out a great picture, with a chic visual, which deserves the attention of all fans of fiction, and connoisseurs of Star Wars in particular.
Probably, like any other fan of the saga about “ZV”, “watched” the cult 6 episodes, as they say, “to the holes”. Having loved this franchise, and since childhood, having once and for all realized what atmospheric space cinema is, after filming a new "trilogy", and watching the first part of it, I did not hope to see a worthy movie about the universe of "SV". The thing is, I wasn’t going to go on after watching The Force Awakens, feeling internally that after the ridiculous murder of Han Solo, it’s an ‘update’ and all the new parts will only push me away from this universe and pleasant memories.
Having decided to watch a new Star Wars movie after 7 years, I was deeply impressed. It was as if I plunged into this vast cosmic world, with its most beautiful locations, the legendary soundtrack of both the general musical background and the sound of shootings, the flight of a rebel squadron, etc., as well as an unforgettable atmosphere; and although I knew how it would end, in terms of the plot, but at some moments of watching I received and felt those emotions necessary for this universe.
The overall impression, for the opportunity to again plunge into the real atmosphere of "ZV", the most positive. The film showed the confrontation between good and evil, and turned out to be very dramatic, despite the absence of beloved me and many other people, the main characters in each episode of the Jedi. Very often in this film, from the lips of minor and passable characters sounded the phrase - "May the Force come with you" and its various variations. And it seemed to me very subtly conveyed the connection with the next chronological film of the SV universe - Episode IV "New Hope".
And in a lot of ways, that movie made me revisit episode four and becoming Luke a Jedi, and of course the rest of the movies on the list. And this is proof that the film came out “right”. Now there's more to one movie in my collection, in the cult saga. I specifically didn’t paint every character in this movie, its disclosure, importance, etc. I was captivated by the atmosphere of the film and its connection to the main episodes of the saga. The overall impression of the film, the plot, the visual effects, the acting of the actors absolutely suited me.
Thank you to the team that made this film, that even this, not the most important story of this universe, managed to very qualitatively show and return hope for a high-quality film adaptation of books in the future.
In our material and overly tolerant time, when fans are the last to think about and remove all the nonsense that you absolutely do not want to associate with past film adaptations, among many cult and media franchises, including the universe of "SV", such a film is like immersion in good memories of a great space movie. Good series in the universe of "ZV" have already begun to shoot - "Mandalorian", "Obi-Wan Kenobi". These series also convey the real, not the playful atmosphere of the SV. I would recommend watching.
It is hoped that they will continue to shoot good feature films, in order to again immerse the beloved viewer in this unforgettable space atmosphere of Star Wars.
In the name of Strength and Faith in the bright future of this franchise, I’m betting 10 out of 10. May patience be with us all. . .
“Rogue One” is currently one of the best full-length projects in the Star Wars universe, and under the yoke of creative efforts, Disney is probably the best. Which is surprising given the production challenges the film faced. One way or another, Rogue One became a worthy spin-off of the main series, at the same time being a prequel to the fourth episode of the legendary saga.
In the center of the story of "Rogue One" a young girl Jean Erso, who is recruited by the rebels to fight the Empire. And not just rebels, but the very cell that is supposed to steal the blueprints of the first Death Star, which will lead to the events of the “New Hope”.
Rogue One, despite its tight attachment to the events of the franchise, feels more like an independent film. This is greatly facilitated by the atmosphere of the tape. Jedi fights and games with the Force are no longer at the forefront. Rogue One is a more chambered story centered on new characters, on living, real people who choose the path of fighting the Empire without any abilities and near-magical talents.
The tape looks more like a part of the franchise, but a kind of military thriller in the entourage of a space adventure. But at the same time, belonging to "Star Wars" is recognized unmistakably: setting, scenery, costumes, all this without problems reads the cult saga.
The characters came out very worthy and interesting. Let not all received sufficient disclosure and timing, but nevertheless firmly burned in memory due to its color. Especially, of course, this applies to Donnie Yen and his character Chirrut Imwe, who has a connection to the Force. Of the least charismatic heroes of the new story, Diego Luna stood out with a minus sign with his Andor. As part of the picture, the character simply got lost against the background of much more interesting colleagues, having simply nothing to attract attention.
Of course, without a cameo of the famous heroes of the saga, too, did not do, and then the blanket is pulled over by Darth Vader himself, who received a small, but insanely bright and memorable scene.
By the way, the action turned out very good. The staging of shootouts and adventure episodes is undoubtedly able to cause pleasure.
So what's the bottom line? "Rogue One" is a project that deserves the most careful attention in the Star Wars universe, which was able to squeeze the maximum out of its concept. I definitely recommend it.
Many consider the film the best among all the new films of the star saga. Some consider the film simply the best of the Star Wars series. I agree with everyone. If the original trilogy laid the foundation, then the sequel-prequel showed what it is based on, and the stories compiled by Disney have become just entertainment ... a kind of movie Disney World on Star Wars.
Our film has no soulful plot, catching, breaking at least a small tear. But it's all about visuals. Such juicy and entertaining has not been among all the films of the saga for a long time.
And our film is the foundation of the entire star franchise. If you’ve seen it, you know why.
_
Our film needs no foundation, because it is itself. You don’t have to look at the past to take into account anything or anything. You can use fresh characters, new ideas, a different flavor. Make everything new, even in the past. It’s interesting that in the entire Star Wars franchise it’s like... here the older (chronologically), the better the graphics and the more spectacular the production, although from a theatrical point of view each new film loses to the previous epic. Funny. But so with Hollywood blockbusters in principle today is happening: in some places better graphon and other purely visual elements, but worse in all other senses become (mostly). Even in the musical sense, to replay old films does not come out, so they go to the trick: they use more old tracks just in a new performance. They mix.
Our cinema is mental, and a lot of things are visually very dark, just like outer space. There are no absolutely positive heroes in it: of course, there can be no such on the side of “evil”, but there are more grey or even dark personalities on the side of “good” here who can easily kill an unarmed person for the sake of achieving their goals – real rebels who act on the principle “all means are good in war” – you can even send your “own” to your forefather, if necessary for the cause. In this film, for the sake of achieving goals, people easily sacrifice their own lives, quite consciously, just like in the Second World War or in all the conflicts that preceded it.
Our film is not a children's one. There are no cute androids or kids who smile and play adventures. Cinema is intentionally grown up... and even a child here is an adult beyond his years, who tasted the fruits of the coming war early. And humor is a little tight, but it’s good: Marvel was once a curiosity to see tons of humor ... today, humor, especially excessive, brings boredom to blockbusters, especially when they are often revised – jokes with repeated repetition annoy faster than anything else.
Our film is a backstory that tells a lot of things, explains something. For example, we learn in passing that the Death Star is actually a giant Jedi sword, simply multiplied/enlarged to the size of a planet.
Once again, let’s repeat one obvious, greasy disadvantage of cinema – for the sake of entertainment, part of the plot, some plot schemes are killed here, as well as cool characters along with their replicas, who in other circumstances (at a different level of entertainment) would say quite different and live longer. It is a pity that the backstory of this prehistory can not really be removed, since in principle all the main aspects are disclosed in it. There are also pathetic scenes that are more suitable for trailers and for the first viewing ... for the effect of inflating wow! and some nostalgia, but with repeated views such scenes look different, played and ostentatious.
Whether it was the “fault” of low expectations or just the mood was suitable, but... Suddenly! - Nice Star Wars movie from Disney! Is that even possible? Or was it a phantom of imagination? 255 positive reviews on the CP can hardly be a mirage, so let's figure it out.
I'm not an ultra-fan of Star Wars, I've only watched the original trilogy and prequels, and I haven't gotten to the animated series and the wider universe. But even such a superficial immersion in the material was enough for me to realize that the new trilogy from Disney ... is not very. And not just her. It is quite obvious that the corporation does not really think about what the SW are and rivet rather standard projects for the sake of obtaining large profits. And against this background, the prequel / spin-off of “New Hope” about the squad that obtained the drawings of the “death star” seemed initially something similar. Unnecessary project, created solely for the sake of money. And it was nice to be wrong. .
First, the film is very different from the usual tone of this franchise. Fewer Jedi swords, pathos, etc. In fact, director Garrett Edwards made something like a samurai film in a fantastic setting. That's so cool! The main advantage of "Rogue" is the characters. Those who did not like the film, for some reason, most cling to the main characters, which is very strange. Characters turned out to be famous, lively, memorable. Where did the discontented find emptiness and pathos? Everyone has their own little background, motivation and characteristics. You believe them, you empathize with them, you understand them. Jean and Cassian are especially good. Their goals do not coincide, they are allies involuntarily, they are united only by circumstances. The dynamic between the heroes is amazing! Not least due to the acting and competent production. Yes, the actors in the SW can play well! Not least because Lucas is no longer making films.
I will not go into the plot in detail, retell the best (in my opinion) episodes and analyze the whole film in detail. I'll just write about the final. You’re supposed to know from the start how it’s going to end (remember Princess Leia’s story from A New Hope), but that doesn’t affect how you see it. You still worry, you worry and you take it to heart. And the end is power! At the same time, “Rogue One” does without any unnecessary flirtations with fans, without fan service, which is too much in all other Disney projects on ZV. It's not here. The only scene for fans only appears at the very end of the film. And it is done so well, so carefully that it is not perceived at all as fan service.
I-I'm in danger of getting a lot of dislikes and dislikes from a fanatic right now, but I'm going to say, Rogue One is the best movie in the Star Wars universe. Not just Disney.
The first full-length spin-off in the Star Wars universe gave devoted fans of the endless intergalactic franchise a surprisingly accurate atmosphere of insurgent hope, ready to achieve any goal in the hopeless dark days of the boundless rule of the mighty Empire.
The plot of the film has a similar dynamics to any of the films of the original trilogy, using the almost unstoppable adventure energy of the narrative, while introducing many new space locations. In addition to this observation, the tape applies a realistically plausible attitude to the surrounding insurgent reality, which does not agree with the policy of the Emperor. The brave and for the most part fearlessly reckless representatives of the faction opposing the dictates are ready to do anything to overthrow the evil regime. And in the end, they will either win an incredibly unexpected victory over the oppressors, or much more predictably fall into an even more hopeless darkness, capable of destroying to the ground all the brightest that remains in the vastness of the vast universe.
Indeed, this tape brilliantly increases the intensity of passions in the process of narration, leaving the viewer to the end of the story at least in complete surprise. And the appearance of legendary characters only adds a stunning effect from viewing, finally leading the viewer to the understanding that this picture was able to enter the cohort of true works of the great saga.
As a result, Rogue One is an extraordinary spin-off of Star Wars, which is not only the first of its kind, but also the only truly fascinating work among all the films presented in the Disney series. May the Force come with us!
I thought Disney made this movie to make money. But it ended up being a very good movie that captures the atmosphere and magic of Star Wars so well, with characters you empathize with so well written that I think it’s one of the best feature films in the entire Star Wars universe. After watching it, you feel like a young kid who saw Star Wars for the first time. I want to say, well, why didn’t the whole new trilogy be made like Rogue 1 and started shooting shit?
I watched a lot of times and finally decided to write a review. The film introduces us to the flip side of all events, where knights with lightsabers save everyone and resist evil. The film is about those who have to eat dirt as they crawl to enemy positions and those who hold a rifle in bloody hands.
No doubt, the eyeliner, like the film itself is not very fabulous, but what to do. It was Rogue One who ceased to be a children's fairy tale and grew up with those people who began watching Star Wars as a child. The newest trilogy did not do this and apparently is not going to, but the Rogue is the same tribute that is performed very qualitatively.
After the first film of the newest trilogy, I was waiting for the Outcast with fear, because how can you make a great film with the fact that everyone waiting for him in the movies knows the ending??? And Gareth Edwards did it! That's what happened!
Bright characters, exciting events, just plague scenes with epic effects. This is all against the background of the seriousness of what is happening! Heroes, though they say ' may the power be with you' but time after time count on themselves and on each other. They know that they are in mortal danger, but they never retreat. This is how I imagined war heroes, this is how I saw them in this film.
I highly recommend watching this film for a cool story, for cool music, cool characters and cool visuals.

This is probably the darkest movie from Star Wars. It doesn't have that familiar Jedi brightness and the feeling of spaghetti western in the space opera. I will say more, this film is inherently more adult than numbered parts. It is not designed to cheer you up, but to show the despair that people go to for revenge and hope. Not just that it became a direct prequel ' New Hope'. There are no epic Jedi visits with all-encompassing power. There is no philosophy of good and evil. There is only a frankly gray morality and an attempt to kindle the fire of rebellion. This is the first film in the universe of George Lucas, which openly, rather than veiled, talks about the cost of victory.
Yes, there’s most of what we love about the Star Wars universe: blasters, stormtroopers, droids, dashing cross-wing gunfights and even the introduction of new ships (thanks for U-wing, it’s a really nice gift to fans), as well as a cool cameo and a remake of one of the scenes of the original trilogy.
As one of the team's characters says 'Rogue One':'The Force flows in me and I am one with the Force' - that should have been the movie's main slogan. Because it explains the sacrifice of the characters.
The film is certainly not perfect. It takes a long time before it runs. And you can find many different holes in the logic of the behavior of some characters (especially in the opening scene). But when you come to get a quality product and a continuation of your favorite story, or rather the disclosure of it in the period about which is poorly known, it is not so important. However, unlike episodes 1-6, you want to watch it much less often. Necessarily for fans, it's not very clear to those who haven't watched the base.
This film is a clear example of the greed of the studio, which in pursuit of profit tormented the storyline of “Star Wars” in the hope that hastily concocted “new story” will attract viewers. But in my opinion, this series is the worst of the SV universe.
An outcast who is actually a Robber (hello to localizers)
I will immediately make a reservation that I watched the tape during the premiere in Russia, but just the other day I decided to reconsider, from which I decided to share my impressions. The film is no longer new, but in 2016 it became a breath of childhood air for all those who were saddened by Episode 7.
If you have never watched Star Wars and decided to start with Rogue One - you will not get the lion's share of the fun, which is really pleasant for fans of the saga. I'll tell you more, you probably won't like it. Why? It's as simple as possible. The film was shot by fans and fans, so it was created to patch the story hole that formed after the release of Episode 3. Prepare for the fact that the references (their authors left in the most obvious places, but all the cakes can taste only the seeker) for different episodes will be a lot, and the Jedi (because of which, in the first place, most people watch Star Wars) will not be in it at all. But there will be cameos, even those we did not expect, for obvious reasons.
How does it differ from the numbered episodes?
(1) This is a complete story arc in one movie. It has an actual sequel in the form of Episode 4 “A New Hope”, but the main characters we will not meet in it.
2) Flying into space classic credits, from which fans run goosebumps we will not see, the authors kind of hint us this - you are watching a separate film, but within the universe.
3) Soundtrack, not written by John Williams, but it does not get worse. The classical approach to music is preserved here – orchestral compositions that carefully play the same set of moods as the original. Moreover, the musical design of the scenes is such that you in your head automatically substitute the original music where it will be needed.
4) The mood and colors of the film are darker. It may show the decline of the galaxy because of the Empire that dominates it, but to be honest, the film looks like a more mature version for those who looked at laser swords as children and now want to feel more tragedy among those who were deprived of the Force. I would even say that he is taking a step towards the Warhammer 40,000 universe. And it looks pretty damn stylish.
5) We clearly understand the motivation of the main character after the first scene of the film. Some may not like it being so obvious, but wait a minute! It's Star Wars! We don’t need a mind-bending plot, we want an action movie about heroes and villains with piu-piu from blasters and spaceships!
(6) More striking main characters. They are less open (of course, because they are not yet 40 years old and they do not have several films, a bunch of books, comics and games), but they are more radically different from each other. Architects are even more similar to the classic role-playing parts from the Dungeon and Dragons desktop than from the Western.
(7) Breaks into tears. And no, no one will cut out the Junglings.
What I liked:
1) Cameo;
2) Crosswings;
(3) Resistance of the rebels;
(4) Harmoniously inscribed fan service.
What I didn't like:
1) Predictability and obviousness of the ending;
2) Low disclosure of characters;
(3) Not even Russian voice acting, giving the impression that the characters sometimes talk in different locations.
In general, the film left great emotions from the first time. Even now, 4 years later, I remember leaving the cinema and standing with a cigarette in the snow. The whole weather clearly reflected my condition. It was so cool that I didn’t want to talk to anyone.

I love Star Wars, I've always loved it, ever since I was a kid, when I came across the Empire Strikes Back tape. I’m one of those fans who was waiting for the third episode, went through all the games from Lucas Arts and BioWare and was initially negative about Disney movies.
I didn’t like The Force Awakens, but I watched it. And so, in 2016, "Rogue One" came out. I watched it much later, when all the films of the saga came out, so as not to torment myself with waiting for the end, but to get it immediately ready.
I'll tell you right away. This is the only movie in the series that made me cry. This is the only movie where I empathized with the characters, not knowing what would happen to them in the future. If the original Lucasian saga of 6 episodes was more like a fairy tale, where the stormtroopers were defeated by natives from a small wild moon, where the Sith were not scary, but simply “bad” because wanting to conquer the whole world is bad, then “Rogue One” is a real drama.
The grim, grim story of an orphaned girl, Jean Erso, who is captured by the Empire, a brave pilot willing to risk his life to save the Galaxy, a fearless warrior, a power sensitive and a sarcastic droid reprogrammed by the rebels.
This is not a large-scale battle, where giant armies fight against the backdrop of collapsing worlds (although there are enough space shootouts in the film, and they are very spectacular), this is a story about ordinary people who risked their lives in order to prevent imperial domination.
The film tells what happened “beyond the war”, the story of “little people” doing a big thing.
The basic message is that to be a hero, you don’t have to be a powerful Jedi, you don’t have to be born with a lot of midichlorians in your blood. To save the world, it is enough to be brave, honest and selfless, value friendship and strive for a goal.
In addition to the stunning plot, I would like to note the wonderful play of actors: Felicity Jones, Diego Luna; insanely atmospheric world, immersing in the universe of the sagas one hundred percent, stunning scenes and musical accompaniment (thanks to Michael Giacchino, by the way, his music sounds in Ratatua and Coco Mystery).
"Rogue One" - mast si for all fans of the saga. Definitely the best of Disney movies.
The main problem of the Disney Star Wars trilogy, in addition to the many problems they already have, is self-replication. Amazingly, Disney is so mired in sequels about the same thing ("Toy Story" and more) and in remakes about the same thing ("The Lion King", "Aladdin") that apparently it has become the norm. Why invent something new when you can take something old (or something that has become your own) and release it again? They did it in 2015, and they’re still doing it now. The rule is uniform and not subject to appeal. Disney maker? Ha, it hasn't smelled creative in a long time. By the way, who knows, maybe it was the success of The Force Awakens, where nostalgic fans forgave everything, that gave rise to this trend? Why bother with history and peace? That’s how it works now, isn’t it?
As you can see, I’m not a fan of what happens to Star Wars in a mouse corporation, but I’m also not a fan of Star Wars in general as a universe. Realizing how Lucas managed to hook everyone, I never looked at his films as something masterpiece. The original trilogy, for me at least, did not pass the test of time. The prequel trilogy did not pass the test of logic. I like "Breakback" - it's darker, more depressing and more serious, both "Hopes" and everything that came out afterwards. In this regard, from each new part I expect exactly toughness, ambiguity, gloom. And like Disney is trying to give us that, because the new trilogy can not be blamed for the lack of these components (well, except for the ambiguity... and seriousness... and gloom... how the hell is Disney?), but ALL THAT WE SEE! So there's not much use in these attempts. After all, you have an infinite space, right? Space for stories. And we revolve around the same thing, for half a century standing in the same place.
The “outsider” I thought would be no exception. Again, the Death Star; the Rebels; the Imperials; missions on the verge of the impossible; the protagonist from the hole who will become a hero and lead everyone... WAS! Nevertheless, I am like one of these...resistances: “I am living with hope”; only now it is not empty words – “I am an outcast” managed, a little, to revive in me the interest in this looped universe, so maybe it is still... this hope is yours.
The only advantage of "Rogue" (except for the graphics, which is chic in all Disney films) - his timid steps towards a serious story and it pays off a lot. Finally, we see ambiguous heroes (as a result of which became unambiguous), conflicts and discord within the Resistance (though not really revealed and not played), individual factions and groups (not spelled out and empty), We finally see the world in the Cosmic Saga (with a total timekeeping of 5-6 minutes), and not a couple of planets. Who knows – maybe soon there will be something that does not color the Empire / Order and the Resistance in unambiguous black and white colors. Can we finally get away from the fairy tale and make a serious movie? The story of "Rogue" tries, it is certainly not without absurdity, but as a prequel "Hope" is thought out (fans, of course, will not agree, well, and the dog with them), and most importantly is not fixated on the already obliterated heroes, but tells a completely new story about new characters (albeit with old tropes).
"Rogue" is a very timid step in the right direction. It seems that Disney is trying to be creative, but is afraid of falling fees, and therefore revolves around proven moves and heroes (from this point of view, it may be good that they sat in a puddle with Khan, although this will force them to change priorities). And even for the sake of doing that, I'm willing to upgrade to the green zone and keep hoping -- because hope -- all the viewers have.
P.S. The final scene with Darth Vader is the best thing in the entire Star Wars movie universe ... you do me good.
I have great respect for the ZV saga. Long live the "sparkling" action, amid the intricacies of human destinies, very interesting characters; and of course, the epic struggle of good against evil in the heart of a distant galaxy.
The Rogue 1 film is a faceless movie. First of all, it is very weak both the characters themselves and the actors who played them. But the bright heroes are what kept the whole saga. Immediately, absolutely all the actors are battered types with exaggerated characters, that the rebels are villains. Were it not for the presence of a certain cruelty, one would think that the movie was based on a children's comic book (a la Fantastic Four). The denouements of the storylines are again clichés that do not touch the living at all.
All scenes develop somewhere like this:
You wanted to kill my father!
- I'm a rebel, I have to fight for an idea! An order is an order.
- Well, it's fun, let me be ideological, too.
The actress who played the main character, as a whole kept straight, but in the scenes more complicated, (from a dramatic point of view), her play rolled to primitive girlish grimaces (here she blows lips, here she will portray some ridiculous grimace). It looked really cool.
The main character - I don't even know whether the character is so primitive, or whether the actor could not give something more than a twitchy soldier, was very annoying with his clumsy sharpness. Well, the robot-assistant, in my opinion, came out quite caustic and not funny character, compared with the droids in the early series.
Positive aspects:
1. Scenes with Darth Vader, (most likely against the background of all this boring party) impressed. And then, some moments with him were painfully intentional. (Really, the writers have lost contact with reality)
2. Space battle at the end was worth it. A swarm of ships tightened the sky, the horizon sparkles and sparkles, and the commanders of both sides desperately handle the situation from their bridges.
Everything. Do not remove any more sequels / offspins, etc. - the story is over.
6 out of 10
My acquaintance with 'Star Wars' develops according to a specific scenario. I saw the worst episode of the ninth movie. After that, we decided to go chronologically: the first or third episodes were conscientiously studied, and now it was time ' Rogue One'. The difference between ' Revenge of the Sith', made in 2005, and this film I felt completely.
My knowledge of 'Star Wars' is not enough to tell you how much this movie fits the Lucasian universe, but I read some reviews and realized that it leaves much to be desired, to say the least. According to my own observations ' Disney' many interviewed and added a touch of stuffy pathetic, which is so stuffed with modern American cinema. I'll talk about pathetics right away. I wondered why it was so unpleasant to see scenes where the hero stands in front of his followers at the right time or not and gives a parting speech that no one asked for. I have come to the conclusion that these scenes are meaningless on either side of the screen. Followers have already made a decision, they hardly need additional motivation. The absurdity is intensified if the parting speech is spoken by a girl and listened respectfully to by grown men, behind whom there are many times more tragedies and, perhaps, crimes than her. As a spectator, I prefer actions that speak for themselves. Two seconds - Seo Guerrera throws off his respirator - but they make sense. The sounding sentences are banal and boring. More business!
True, the absence of ' case & #39; there is no need to complain. The second half of the film is full of action. Perfect action. Heroes catch orders on the fly, instantly understand the most complex technique, instantly understand what to stick in, their weapons do not misfire, they shoot randomly and get in, all mechanisms work smoothly. In the stream, you close your eyes to it, but the sediment remains. Again illogical pathetic: the rebels with foam at the mouth refused to help the production of blueprints, but suddenly broke down and flew to cover a group of Kamikazes who disagreed with them. Without plans, without a clear idea of what and where is on Scarif, without developing a strategy, absolutely chaotic, only fantastic luck and helped them all to a certain point, but luck can not be endless.
The main character was not close to me. I can only justify the inexpressive play of the actress by the purpose of Jean Erso, and she was not meant to have a long happy life. Neither did the flimsy Cassian. Of all the characters, I sympathized with only three: the inventor Galen Erso, the sarcastic droid K-2SO, and the battle hermit Chirrut. Their stories touched me, these characters matched the spirit 'Star Wars' in them I felt the Force. There's something sublime and irrational about the scene where Chirrut gives a prayer to his skeptical partner, and he suddenly begins to repeat it himself. He does not try to defend himself with this prayer, but rather affirms his faith in the future. The idea of sacrifice for the future is always tragic and beautiful. And the fact that this sacrifice is not shown in the main episodes, but outside of them (even outside the canon) seems to me the most plausible thing in this film. Because that's how it always happens. Behind every significant event, behind a few great names are thousands of destinies, all forgotten.
Like most, I think I waited for Darth Vader to show up and waited. The first scene seemed to me more impressive, it effectively anticipated his appearance. In the second I did not have enough space around, the narrow corridor seemed to flatten his figure, I had the impression that Darth Vader was cramped. On the other hand, that's what made it more material, frighteningly realistic. The appearance of another well-known character I also waited and experienced a complex mixture of catharsis and disappointment, as all too obviously the footage with him (with her) was inserted for the fans, for ' oh, look who we have here' It was not necessary to show the character’s face. Because let's be honest, the river isn't going back.
Plus for shots of a dilapidated Jedah with giant statues, for the crowd on the streets of the city. Pros for having a few characters and for the first scene of Darth Vader. 'Disney' continues to shoot, and the desolation 'Star Wars' Like the Jeds, apparently, there is no stopping. But at least everyone will decide how they remember them.
Notice what an analogy can be drawn - like the spirit of Emperor Palpatine, over the world ' a galaxy far, far away' Mickey Mouse looms. And if you have read my reviews of the new episodes 'Star Wars', you will understand that I am not enthusiastic about them, to put it mildly. But in this case, we either have a nice exception to the rule, or someone had the courage to give Kathleen Kennedy a kind of slap to make a really good movie.
Paradoxical situation - the film tells about the events preceding 'New Hope' but the whole mood, the atmosphere hints that the creators tried to disown the canon. In the furnace traditional opening credits, down with John Williams (although Michael Giacchino wrote a good soundtrack). And in general, what is 'Star Wars' in the understanding of the average viewer? Roughly speaking, this is a story about how light and dark fight on laser swords, and somewhere in the background each other are shot by soldiers from different camps. That sounds crazy, but that's in short. This time, the Jedi-Sith showdown has been thrown out of the narrative, allowing us to focus on those in the shadows.
First of all, I want to say that 'Rogue-one' is not inferior to the rest of the series in terms of visuals. Gareth Edwards (whose 'Godzilla', I consider ambiguous film), remained true to his rule to show in the frame giant machines. Camera flybys, rovers, the Death Star over the surface of the planet - you can feel the power of the Dark Side. The battle scenes are also beautiful - the characters change locations, run in the mud ... in fact, it is a war movie. It is far-fetched, but this approach to Star Wars is perceived very fresh.
Regarding the characters 'Rogue-one' you can have long debates. The film included cameos of famous characters - Senator Organa, Governor Tarkin and Princess Leia, but again - they appear for a while, so that most of the time we watch a detachment of Rebels, whose task is to steal blueprints ' Death Stars'. But it creates a double sense. We already know that the blueprints will be stolen 'The Death Star' will soon be destroyed. Why should we worry about the main characters? Perhaps 'Rogue One' belongs to those movies that you watch purely for the sake of acting. I also came across occasions when viewers said that the members of the Rebels did not engage them in any way - they are faceless, we do not know anything about them. I admit, even I noticed that feeling. But this is the film about 'cannon fodder'. Faceless heroes who guerrilla and their sacrifice for a good cause. If I try to put pressure on myself, then from the whole squad I remember a blind Asian who believes in the Force (Donnie Ian), a surprisingly human robot K-2SO (Alan Tudick), Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and the main character Jean Erso (Felicity Jones). Because basically it's about a war, a single squad that risks everything for a common goal. Of course, we are told that Jin is connected to Admiral Krennick (Ben Mendelsohn) in charge of building the Death Star, and the story takes a small line with the vendetta.
And if you still do not agree with the written, then one detail in the film you will definitely appreciate - Sith Lord Darth Vader, as if the personification of the entire atmosphere of the film. His screen time is as much as five minutes, but he did not diminish in his greatness. The last scene with his participation generally resembles a part-time thriller. Looking at what is happening in it, you just remember that it was filmed under the direction of Disney. While in the new episodes, the characters cannot cut each other with lightsabers, this scene in the corridor is shocking.
'Rogue-one' might not exist, but it's based on a very cool idea. The main characters are not the central characters of the universe, they are just the people who need to accomplish a mission. How many people did you just follow orders? And we've been shown the sacrifices these people make and how important those sacrifices are.
The universe is sold to Disney. It would seem that there is no hope. The empire won, and there is absolutely no one to strike back.
And then comes out ' Rogue One' - a job that no one was waiting for.
It's about the seriousness of the job. In 'Rogue One' there are no Jedi who will come and save the position of flapping a light saber.
Only the rebels who went on a suicide mission get the blueprints for the Death Star that Luke Skywalker and Co. have yet to destroy.
'Rogue One' features really memorable characters. Each of which, of course, will not live to the main battle. However, they are spelled out in something even better than the heroes of the prequel trilogy. For example, a blind monk who feels power. And even a sarcastic droid, which is many times better than the notorious C3PO.
There is no room for sentiment here, but there is plenty of room for all sorts of holes and stormtrooper effects. But it already seems to be an integral part of Star Wars ', a convention of the universe that we can only come to terms with and even love.
But this can be seen as a bold step toward common seriousness. Dark tones go very far in the universe. I'd even say they look infused. There is nothing funny in war.
This film is a rare example of poor quality work in general in the presence of quite conditional components. The sense of paradox will be especially strong if you try to disassemble everything separately, without connection with other elements of the picture.
The script could be called bad ... if there was no script, for example, “Star Wars” Lucas, which in comparison with such “Rogue” is the first in the life of a student of correctional school. Yes, of course, in the scenario of a lot of holes: say, having created a “death star” that theoretically can destroy planets, for some reason they decided to test it... in throwing atomic bombs. Why? ?
Directing is also quite nothing, and, objectively speaking, no worse than Lucasov. Limps, however, work with actors: especially gets Donnie Ian, who is blind in the film, but by his behavior in the frame – not at all. But, with the exception of Ian, the rest of the actors are quite Stanislav. The action in principle does not sag, although sometimes it is boring to watch. This is not the director’s fault.
Operating work, special effects, scenery - all quite at the level: the publicized "Black Panther" rests.
Why is the movie bad? Because you can not harness a swan, cancer and pike, and try to shoot “space fantasy”, using the techniques of realistic cinema.
Remember “Star Wars” — did the viewer care what the goals and ideology of the Empire, what — rebels? No, because they were watching a story. In a fairy tale, a villain is a villain because he was born that way. But “Rogue” is filmed as a realistic movie – and the questions immediately arise: are the rebels (given their “Arab” robes) supporters of the space Sharia state?
Against this background, all the script holes that were invisible in the case of Star Wars come to the fore. For example, the motivation of the characters: is not too implausible the malice of the “evil” and the kindness (kindness?) of the “good”?
Or take acting. Yes, performers play well, especially if you cut all the scenes with any actor (except Donnie Ian!) and compare them to any of Star Wars. But what good is this acting game, if we have a fairy tale? In any fairy tale, there are not realistic heroes, but hero-functions, respectively, they need to be played - emphasizing this very function. However, here they try to give the characters volume - and the more they try to do this, the more the impression of "dressed" increases. And not because they play poorly (I won’t tire of repeating – except for Donnie Ian!), but because the dramaturgy of the fairy tale does not tolerate volume. Koschei is evil because he is evil, and Darth Vader is evil because he is evil. If you go beyond this function, you need to add motivation – and we immediately encounter the fact that this is a fairy tale, the characters of which are “cardboard” initially.
In general, if you look for the culprits, you need to point to the producers: who else had to put the corresponding super-task before the crew? Although they probably have a decent answer: "How can you criticize a movie that has made so much money at the box office!"
Probably it will not be a secret that 'Rogue One' shot only for those who have seen at least New Hope. So watching this movie without knowing anything about the original trilogy makes no sense. But the title of the film is a story, and this implies that it should be quite original and interest even those who are not familiar with Star Wars. Unfortunately, the problem of the film is that one of its few advantages is nostalgic moments and references that the ordinary viewer will not notice, and in the end will ask a quite logical question ' Why?'. If there were more pluses, besides the visual component, it was possible to forgive some moments where the ordinary viewer would be confused, but, alas, they are no longer there. What happened to the rest of the movie?
Heroes:
To begin with, I do not remember all the names of the characters, and I am not going to find them, because this is the problem of the director and the writers who did not work the characters properly. And it’s not just me, I’m sure even the Star Wars fans who praise and defend this movie everywhere won’t be able to list their names (unless they’ve seen it a hundred times).
It is understood that the main character of the Outcast is Jean Erso. Maybe to some extent that’s true, but I don’t think the movie has a protagonist. Yes, the film begins with her, but let’s say, ' Secret' her storyline is revealed to us almost in the middle, and then her character does the same thing as the other characters. It no longer develops, nothing changes in it. Probably the most empty character in the whole movie. Of course, the main character remains the main character, regardless of whether it is empty or not, but here we are shown the Alliance, then the ships of the empire, then Darth Vader, then they show the team Jean and repeat this chain over and over. There is a moment in the film when the team splits up and then the creators pay even less attention to it. I don’t know how else to describe this character, but I think it’s best to conclude by saying that Gene doesn’t have screen time or depth. No matter how hard you try, it is very difficult to empathize with her, so it is difficult to watch what is happening, because you do not know who to follow and who to empathize with. The other heroes are exactly the same. They exist only to attribute certain objects ' from point A to point B, showing their heroism. Characters are clichés in which there is nothing special. But if you think about it, it's the main team of the film, they just had to be interesting. There is no chemistry between the members of the team, so this is their ' heroism' looks fake and they do not believe, do not believe this ' friendship' I understand that they all came together in almost one day, but in New Hope, when Luke, Leia, Han and the droids had just met, they all immediately felt the chemistry between them and fell in love with them. But there is no such thing, although it was possible to work out interesting characters. Of these, I remember only Kasian, who was given some development and an Asian who was associated with power. Everyone praises the robot, so I won't do it again. Yes, he has good jokes, he is even smarter than many people and can calmly analyze the situation, but this is not enough that he would somehow take the place of the main character. There is nothing to say about negative heroes. As they sat and reasoned at their tables in the rest of the parts, so here. They showed a little bit of Darth Vader, he ' did his job' and left.
Plot:
It was an interesting task for the writers. How good to show a movie, the ending of which the viewer will know in advance. This task was not met. I wanted to show the drama, but it didn’t work either. There are no turns. In all the important scenes, it's clear how it's going to end, because there's no other way. And so it gets boring. I don’t know if it was a good idea to film this particular story, but I think it could be better if there were interesting characters and unexpected twists and turns.
Atmosphere:
The atmosphere is very gloomy, and sometimes so much that you can’t see anything, they try to show us everything in serious ways, no one almost smiles, there is a tragedy in front of everyone. Many people liked the film because of that. Those people who have watched Star Wars are grown up, they need a serious story, they don’t care about this power, these noble Jedi and they want to see the harsh reality. But for me, it's not Star Wars anymore, because Star Wars is the power, the goodness, the naivety that was present in all the previous parts, and when you watch New Hope, you realize that it couldn't be so tragic and then become so fun. It seems to me that it is wrong to judge the atmosphere. Here everyone must make for himself some verdict and understand what first of all means 'Star Wars': a good fairy tale or a harsh epic.
Visual component:
That's all good. The Star Wars visual is always beautiful and no one was let down. There are new interesting locations that will only please the eye.
I tried to express all my thoughts here and try to understand why some people really like this movie and others don’t. I think I was able to explain that.
Rogue One isn’t the worst movie of all time, it’s just the weakest Star Wars movie in my opinion. I watched it to get back into that atmosphere, to see good and evil again, and probably most people saw it for the same reason. If that was the goal of the creators, they were able to accomplish it in part. Some re-entered the atmosphere and saw Star Wars from the other side, while others (like me) enjoyed what was left of the previous episodes.
Is there any hope that Disney's Star Wars will succeed - I don't know! Probably ' The Force Awakens' gave more hope than this part, but alas.
The Death Star was built one way or another, you know? And don't you think that the architect from 'Star Wars' not too proud of the Death Star in his resume?

Rogue One: Star Wars. Stories
It's official, at least it was obvious before the release of 'Hana Solo' - we'll be getting a new universe movie 'SV' every year, whether it's a good idea or not. It is now clear that the new trilogy is in fact being conceived and executed according to a grand six-year plan. And the plan is to get fans endlessly speculating about what will happen in the next movie to maintain levels of ambient hype, ensuring each one makes at least a billion dollars. But since Disney doesn't pay me to cherish every single one of their products in a timely manner, I'd rather wait to consider the new trilogy when it's finally completed. What's wrong? At that point, everyone will get tired of hearing about her, ensuring that no one cares about what I think. I approve of the plan. Since it takes at least two years to produce an episode, the producers or shareholders who know them, who run the corporation, have found it appropriate to produce intermediate films. Small stories from all over the universe that probably won’t get too far from the time frame everyone has been familiar with. The first of them: 'Rogue One'.
Sounds like a living dream, don't you think? Only this is the dream where we have to tap through a minefield for fun. The movie begins with what is now considered a classic. We hear the usual words - ' Long, long...' but, unfortunately, without the traditional theme of John Williams. It’s like a sequel, except it’s about what happened between two existing movies. Technically it is 'Star Wars: Episode 3.5' although the whole action takes place much closer to the fourth episode. Her father is the chief engineer of the Death Star. And, hey, Mads! Nice to see you. He plays a character who has nothing wrong with his eyes and whose name is not Hannibal. Well done, buddy. So the Empire called and forced her former super-scientist father to build a doomsday weapon for the Emperor. So all of us pedants who have spent decades arguing about how one farm boy was able to destroy the Death Star with just one successful shot should rejoice! We waited. Not to mention the fact that many of us really wanted to see this era, what the old Ben Kenobi called "Dark Times" 39 - the heart of the imperial era - the infancy of rebellion. And, of course, we wanted to see Darth Vader, in his prime, bullying all hell, as well as the usual cannon fodder that fills the corridors without even trying. Predictably, his appearance dominated fan discourse for weeks after the premiere. Fan service and nostalgia are hard drugs and must now be of the highest quality. The real enemies of society.
The presence of the intimidating Peter Cushing - or really impressive digital simulator Peter Cushing, played by Guy Henry with a bunch of technology on his face - was another big fan dispute. I don't know if it mattered, because Ben Mendelsohn, aka Director Krennick, is our real villain, and he plays the evil bureaucrat very well. The painting managed to justify its own existence. Power is present in all forms of life, but in some it is more present than in others. Second place among all the new Disney Universe paintings 'SV' because the droids in this space saga have always been more human than human, and that tradition continues here. It's a pity that extensive business marketing means every fan on the internet will learn everything they need to know about the film before it's released. Does anyone else remember 'Rogue One'? Does anyone else care? Besides me? If I'm the last, it's a really bad sign because I've barely thought about Star Wars 39 since Lucas sold the works of his life. And, the Disney producers didn’t take into account that just because their Marvel Cinematic Universe is a printing press for money doesn’t mean that this level of fan commitment will work for every other franchise. ' Han Solo' proved it.
You know what's really weird? If you haven't seen 'Star Wars' up to thirty.
'Rogue One' - a beautiful space adventure in the universe 'Star Wars', almost completely removed from the Jedi-Sith theme. The narrative focuses on the common people who confront the Empire with all their small strength, and live a life much harsher than the possessors of the Force. All lovers of colorful characters and spectacular shootouts - welcome to a galaxy far, far away.
It makes no sense to say anything about the plot of the picture - this is a direct prequel to the "New Hope" & #39; telling about the very group of rebels who were able to steal the drawings & #39; Death Stars' and thereby provide the Resistance with the most valuable information to fight the Empire's war machine. But all the other components of the picture should go through in more detail.
Characters and castes. It's pretty good overall. Not all characters are interesting enough, not all are played properly by charismatic actors, but I have no special claims, and even have someone to praise separately. First of all, this is of course the main character - Jean Erso, played by Felicity Jones. A beautiful girl who looks very organic in her image. Unfortunately, the picture does not reveal her as a character in too much detail, but the prequel book 'The Way of the Rebel' perfectly copes with this, where it tells about Jean’s life from childhood until the moment when she is already an adult recruited by the rebels. And I highly recommend reading this novel first before watching the film, since the characters refer to its events several times. It is necessary to note and insanely colorful pair of fighters - Chirrut, who is clearly strongly associated with the Force, and Baze, who is always ready to come to the rescue of a comrade with his blaster machine gun. These characters, whose images were embodied respectively by Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen, look very bright on the screen, sometimes overshadowing even more important participants in the narrative. Among the antagonists, there is also someone to praise - General Krennick performed by Ben Mendelssohn turned out to be quite a good character, although suffering from some classic clichés of movie villains. Well, it is worth noting the small role of Mads Mikkelsen, who played father Jean, and a bright cameo of Darth Vader, which accounted for albeit a short, but incredibly cool action scene.
Another thing to praise the picture for is the excellent dynamics. The film never sags once, skillfully alternating action scenes with a calmer narrative. The picture is not overloaded with unnecessary plot branches, there are no personal disassemblies of characters against the backdrop of unfolding love stories, nothing like that. This is a straight story, but this is what it is good for - the narrative does not stagnate, branching somewhere to the side, but constantly moves forward.
And since I touched on the topic - action in ' Rogue One' just chic. Excellent production, excellent camera work and installation, periodically skipping moderate pathos, which just fills you with drive - there is simply nothing to complain about. And here it is worth noting the visual part - it is magnificent. The picture is incredibly beautiful, both in terms of setting the frame, and in terms of general landscapes, and in terms of CGI - in general, the film looks just fine.
Getting to the final - 'Rogue One' this is one of the best films of the saga, at the level of the original trilogy. The picture is made in the atmosphere of the universe 'Star Wars', and it can not be called just a fantastic action movie, it is exactly 'Star Wars' and it is felt in everything. I definitely recommend watching.
The story of how the rebels got the drawings of the Death Star without lightsabers and Force, Jedi and Sith. The story of how the secrets of the Galactic Empire were torn out by the hands of ordinary people, which allowed the heroes of the old trilogy to win. The story is about heroism, the sacrifice of ordinary soldiers fighting for an idea, despite the very small chance of success. That sounds great! However, the execution, the internal logic, the script, the characters – all this does not stand up to any criticism. No, some of the expectations were still justified, for example: goofy and oblique stormtroopers, the Empire, now and then giving odds to the rebels, the trope “one-man army” in relation to the main characters of the film, etc. classic cliches of the SV universe. But the film managed to surpass even the previous conventions, sinking a degree of absurdity into the earth's crust.
The first is the rebels themselves, who are afraid to do anything against the Empire.
Secondly, the Empire, which not only “bends” so that the rebels were comfortable, but also puts a stick in the wheel.
Third, it turned out that the flaw of the Death Star is not a mistake in calculations, a statistical error, as it was before, but a planned sabotage from the gloomy genius of the Empire (and the father of the main character in combination). How he managed to do this, why no one noticed this is not so important, because the engineer was not only a genius, but also a prophet, because he knew in advance that the rebels would have a Jedi to perform this almost unrealistic task.
In the movie, there is one plus Darth Vader. Especially his final passage through Tantiva IV. I just want Darth Vader to get to the writers of this film.
When everything is at stake, be ready to sacrifice yourself.
Skepticism. This verdict came to mind after the announcement of the spin-off Rogue, which takes place shortly before the 4th episode of George Lucas. After a mediocre continuation of the main series of films from J.J. Abrams, the news of the spin-off production looks like an attempt at convulsive rehabilitation in the eyes of fans. The leadership decided to put the very operation at the forefront, after which the Death Star (DS) drawings found themselves in the hands of the rebel alliance. The idea looked like a dark horse until the release, but as it turned out, there is a lot to see there.
Star Wars. Stories is the title of an independent series of films about events we’ve heard about but never seen. And the first story came out very high quality. It shows how the drawings were obtained, introduces new characters that you care about, beautifully conveys the scale with the local atmosphere. In addition, it convincingly explains why the first ZS had a ventilation, which is a vulnerable point. And, of course, there is a good amount of fan service.
The centerpiece is Jean Erso, the daughter of the chief engineer, Galen Erso, who builds the ZS. After making a deal with the rebel alliance, she searches for her father to gain information about the weakness of the empire’s main weapon. A simple setup is accompanied by the destruction of planets, sabotage sorties, an attack by the X-wing link and much more. The spectacle is enough here. The visual adheres to neutral, gray tones. This is not a minus, because this style is great for conveying the reign of an empire in a distant galaxy.
It’s nice that on the way the characters meet other interesting personalities. Blind Chirrut Imwe, one of the last guardians of the Jedi sanctuaries and his pragmatic friend Baze Malbus is a very charismatic duo with some of the saddest moments. Droid K-2S0, thanks to its sarcasticity and the same pragmatism, is now a new favorite of the author. How charming he is. A separate mention worthy Ben Mendelsohn as the main antagonist of the film Admiral Krennick. He is not one of the supreme, he is subjected to pressure, ridicule and therefore in many ways more imponent than the same Tarkin from episode 4. The latter, by the way, is also present here, to recreate the appearance of Peter Cushing, even raw, but simply incredible technologies were used. The CG sheath is visible to the naked eye, which is not a natural motion animation, but the result is very impressive.
There is no need to worry about the action part either. It is diverse, occurs in different sets, growing in scale as you approach the final. There are battles with stormtroopers and heavy equipment, and space battles. Battles in space are very well lit, there is scope, a lot of cool directorial angles epic explosions. Here is one of the main advantages of the film – a large number of deaths. In fact, the mission performed by the main characters is suicidal, a large degree of murder of actors is simply inevitable. This part was performed well and not because otherwise, but because the director and writers knew their job. The music comes mainly due to old compositions and their remixes. There's nothing more to say about her.
The creative process of the film was difficult. It came to reshoots and reshoots, and they were very fitting. In particular, the stupid moment where Jean Erso goes with one blaster on the T-Fighter was cut.
In a non-abstract result: the first spin-off came out very addictive and very fresh, unlike episode 7. It shows that SW is not just about lightsaber fights, but if death is necessarily one-two and this is an event for the entire film. The Outcast was not without sins. New music seems to have been written decently, but it has no soul at all. The new characters are not 100% available. Galen Erso and Soe Guerrer performed by Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker are not disclosed and merge too quickly. So he left the stage very stupidly. I want the story to be a little more complicated. It remains only to repeat – the finale is very correct and spectacular. You won't be disappointed. A clear recommendation for viewing.
The plot of this film develops in the time interval between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The Emperor holds the galaxy in the iron grip of terror and dictatorship. His rule is blood, fear, and the extermination of all dissent. But hope for a better future is still alive in the hearts of the few who continue to fight on the side of the world. One day, the rebels learn that the empire is developing new weapons of mass destruction. The Resistance Alliance understands that the only way to continue the fight is to destroy this deadly machine. The whole story is built around the attempts to solve this problem.
There are no Jedi or Sith here, with their perpetual confrontation of forces. There is not one key hero who, like a mission, is obliged to save the world, simultaneously overcoming various obstacles. For the first time in the forty-year history of the saga, the most ordinary people are in the center of the narrative. Our heroes do not have superpowers, they do not fencing with lightsabers and do not let lightning from their hands, they are driven only by one desire to live in a better world. Such a change of accents adds fresh notes to a long-known song.
I was expecting to see a fantastic action movie, and I got a war drama in space sets and I loved it. Star Wars fans have known the empire for a very long time, but Rogue One was the first movie after watching which I really hated the emperor and all his henchmen. We have been shown for the first time how the rule of a dictator affects the lives of ordinary inhabitants of the galaxy. Maimed fates, separated families, destroyed temples, cities drowning in mud and choking with dust, all this infuses sad thoughts and sets the audience in the right way. The tragedy of the situation is reinforced by the heroes, each of whom the empire has taken away something vital: someone has a family, someone has a vocation and meaning of life, and others have been wounded so deeply that they are unable to talk about it and only eyes filled with pain and anger make it clear why this battle is so important to them. This form of narrative allowed me to take everything that happens on the screen to heart.
Speaking of actors, I do not want to switch to personalities, I will only say that everyone gave 100%. Everyone contributed something to this story. I sincerely worried for all members of the squad, which means that not only the artists brilliantly coped with their task, but also the writers worked hard to glory, preparing the ground in which the flowers of acting talent bloomed.
When the studio announced plans to make individual films that would be set somewhere in between trilogies, I became wary. There was a risk that these stories would be empty, superfluous and turn the great saga into a series full of passing episodes. Thank goodness my fears were in vain. “Rogue” expands our knowledge of a distant galaxy and makes “Star Wars” even more dramatic and human than before.
P.S. Where "The Outcast" ends, "A New Hope" begins.
George Lucas, probably not expecting it himself, shooting the first “Star Wars” he invented a whole space culture. And if the director’s films are a skeleton, then the meat and muscles grew with the help of fans, numerous comics, books based on the universe, prints on clothes, cartoons, LEGO designers from the Star Wars series and other toys. Sooner or later, it was bound to happen that the universe would be overgrown with new films. So the natural process was to continue the episodes. But also there were separate branches of the development of the universe and the first swallow was the painting “Rogue One”. Star Wars. Stories."
A film about the struggle of the rebels and the kidnapping of the drawings of the Death Star. The main character (Philicity Jones), raised by the rebels, is the daughter of one of the engineers of the Star. She and a bunch of rebels will have to do the impossible and steal blueprints from the enemy camp.
I really liked the film, it has the spirit of the first Star Wars. The creators managed to make a movie, conveying the atmosphere of the 70-80 years and only the quality of the image suggests that the film is modern. As a nice bonus, it's Donnie Ian's hero, the blind Jedi has become a nice film decoration. Yes, and the main characters in the person of Philisity Jones and Diego Luna did not disappoint. Negative characters also look good.
Undoubtedly, the film will appeal to fans of “Star Wars” and fans of fiction and space adventure.

Honestly, I didn’t expect this movie to be that good. But after watching, I think this movie is the best in the whole Star Wars saga. Let's be clear.
Plot. I know how this movie will end, it’s predictable. The film tells about what happened between the 3rd and 4th parts of the saga. It answers questions that arise in the following parts.
The atmosphere. Of all the films of the saga, this film turned out to be the darkest. He showed us how difficult it is for ordinary soldiers in war and what they are willing to do to achieve their goal. The end of the film was very sad. The film has good humor, it is not enough, but it makes you smile.
Special effects. The whole movie turned out very beautiful. Special effects make you feel like you’re there with the characters. The last battle was particularly epic.
Music. For the first time, music was not written by John Williams, but by Michael Giacchino. It turned out very beautiful, worthy of replacing the music of previous films.
The film showed us that ordinary people are able to perform a feat for the sake of others, sacrificing themselves.
I want to highlight the characters. Not all of them are fully revealed, but all the main characters develop during the film. It is very interesting to watch them.
I really liked the film, I recommend it to watch not only fans of the series, but also people who just love a good movie.
