Josie is a dramatic thriller, the events of which unfold very slowly. Not to say it was all for nothing. What was a little infuriating when watching, namely the viscous development of the plot, a lot of seemingly empty conversations eventually flow into the final sourdough. Everything you had to listen to in the first 70 minutes of the film is necessary for this film.
The way things were going was so slow and boring, it made me think that I had chosen the wrong movie again. Josie, a high school student, spends time with two men almost simultaneously. On the one hand, this is her classmate, who has had the idea of taking possession of the girl since she arrived at school. On the other side is Hank, a school park guard, her motel neighbor, a man with a mysterious past. She clearly pitted them against each other, only the men were obsessed with her, Josie, and did not allow themselves to do this, constantly adjusting the machinations for each other.
In general, quite good camera work, coupled with a musical theme, creating a certain atmosphere of tension and thoughtfulness do their job. Again, it was a bit boring, but the desire to know what this whole Josie game will lead to was higher. And I waited patiently for the end. With each new fragment, interest is heated incredibly strongly, powerfully hitting the audience’s expectations in the end. In general, in the course of the picture, it was not entirely clear who would end up being a bad girl - a loose-headed girl or a 50-year-old man who fell for her bait. Still, the image of Hank, a heavy and strange uncle, caused some feelings of apprehension about the prospects of Josie. And in general, the ending turned out not bad, covering the first 70 minutes of a boring spectacle.
This viscous, monotonous thriller I will recommend to watch. Quite a funny and tense thriller, revealing many dark secrets of the characters of the tape and bringing everyone together as if in a duel. Not without the flaws of the movie, but quite smart. In addition, in the main role of Sophie Turner, the star of Game of Thrones and the new X-Men.

This viscous, monotonous thriller will not be recommended for viewing. If you want to miss most of the movie, please. This is a passing movie you can safely skip and do not regret it.
It is such a signal that burns on airfield vehicles that transmit aircraft through the confusion of taxiways to the runway at the airfields of large airports. And huge "mastodons"-airbuses follow a small, often passenger, machine. So in life, huge, strong, rich, different men follow (in a broad sense: seek, care, lose and find, listen, please and many other different ways - follow) women. It is a pity that not all women know how to bring a neighbor to the runway.
There is such a character in this film. It is thanks to the Mastery of Feminine character Sophie Turner, manages to extract from the shell of loneliness and squalor Hank, knock the arrogance and bravado of Marcus and even make them communicate!
Both male characters and the viewer (especially male) with excitement watches and follows, according to the development of the plot, Josie’s “Power”, which she uses variously to achieve the desired state in the subjects of her attention.
And this observation of the nuances of the embodiment of the creativity of communication (for those who understand ..., and understand who died and rose for the sake of Woman) does not allow you to distract from viewing, cool down and not empathize. Sophie Turner perfectly showed all the possibilities of the Mastery of Feminine: here and graceful movements and postures, sociability and calmness, attention and neglect. It is a pity that she led the characters not to Takeoff (I really want such a film!), but to the usual, as Egorche23 rightly noted, the election of the Hollywood final for such films.

In a small town where everyone knows each other, where schoolchildren can not see life without drinking and drugs, a girl named Josie arrives. Immediately, she becomes a target for two people who are completely different in nature: an adult man Hank, who loves to live alone after a dark past, and Marcus, a teenager who spends all his free time in noisy companies. These people could not stand each other, and after the arrival of a charming girl, a real war broke out between them. They were driven not by ordinary sympathy, but by love. It seemed to me unpretentious, but the genre of the film is “thriller, drama”, which means that it will only be more interesting.
Most sympathy was caused by the character of Dylan McDermott, his image is perfectly conveyed. This contrast between a diligent person and the society with which he has to communicate, makes him very empathetic at different intervals of the film. It was also an excellent performance by the actor.
The beautiful Sophie Turner gave her beauty to Josie, and here the director was not mistaken when choosing an actress for the main role. That’s what you want to look at throughout the film, and it makes more sense why two people couldn’t share it.
I had an opinion, looking at estimates, that people were waiting for a strong plot and unexpected twists and turns. But this is not the main thing, although the plot at the end is very shocking. You will get more impressions by looking at the beautiful views, as well as delving into the dialogue. The work is worth watching slowly, all interest will grow gradually.
I don’t regret wasting time, because for me it flew unnoticed. Perhaps this film can be categorized as an “Amateur,” but fortunately, I was an amateur.
A film whose title uses a female name can only be of two genres: a melodrama about unhappy love or a thriller about obsession and revenge. In “Josie”, obviously, the second, and the film is full of the worst ambitions of the genre – the desire to appear so strongly noir goes to the detriment of the project. Despite the dark atmosphere that makes the picture smarter than other works in this genre, “Josie” is a long tape with a clichéd add-on about a young woman who, for some reason, draws attention to a man much older. It is unlikely that this can attract to viewing more than the opportunity to see Sophie Turn in a bikini.
"Josie" begins with a chaotic scene that stirs up curiosity: police cars arrive at the call and cops begin to clear the house. The events rewind a few weeks ago and introduce the main character - Hank. A silent and lonely security guard watches the local schoolchildren and leads a reclusive lifestyle. Hank's fate changes dramatically with the appearance in the town of Josie, a schoolgirl who prefers frank openwork stockings to all types of clothes.
For the most part, "Josie" is a very slow movie. The plot unfolds slowly, although from the very beginning it becomes clear where everything is going. The main focus is on the hermit Hank, who is an irresistible figure of suffering and at the same time a very stupid and clichéd image. McDermott’s character seems to be made up of stereotypes; you can even joke that if you enter words like “I’m tired of life” or “I hate myself” into Wikipedia, then an image of Hank from “Josie” will emerge. The title character is no better in terms of originality. The close-up of her sunglasses makes you remember “Lolita” Kubrick and in general it is such a modernized version of it with a taste of punk rock.
The script struggles to seem different from what it is, but when it comes to climaxing, it gets quite sad. The finale, on the one hand, is ridiculous, and on the other hand, secondary, since this has already been presented on the screen more than once or twice. In other words, it feels like a draft was put into work, not the final version of the script. There are aspects that can be considered funny and gloomy-witty (I think “Josie” would come out a good black comedy), but the creators preferred to focus on the strange version of the thriller. Which, in turn, also failed to develop: too little time is devoted to studying the pathologies of characters.
The film is very unusual. The twitchy movements of the camera are constantly alternated with a relaxed static visual. In general, the scenery is very cheap, and in scenes, for example, when Josie is sunbathing by the pool, it is more like a music video than a real movie. I will not say that this is bad, especially strengthens the mystery around the personality of the main character, but the director or cameraman clearly breathed unevenly to Turner.
Speaking of Sophie Turner. The siren copying Lolita's image is really good. Although she repeats over and over the same clichéd lines of dialogue, she does so with emotion. In general, much here is built on the acting of Sophie Turner and the above-mentioned emphasized sexuality: sultry, manipulative and teasing Josie is far from the image of Sansa from Game of Thrones. An element that in one hand would be exclusively operational, instead beautifully embedded in the narrative.
Unfortunately, from the script side, this criminal-psychological drama is not only not thought out, but also seems to extinguish in the first act. Despite the presence of such experienced actors as McDermot and the pretty Turner, the characters of "Josie" are unable to transcend their archetypes: a quiet man with a mysterious past and a typical lolita. So when the script finally gives star moments to its characters, the actors spend them in vain. The culmination is not only predictable, but also full of logical holes. Noir is a genre where this is not forgiven, and flirting with the “dark” theme in “Josie” looks too slow and frivolous.

The quiet, measured and boring life of a small provincial American town comes to an end when she appears - a young, attractive, liberated and quite eccentric Josie. A young girl, at the sight of which men slowly begin to lose their temper. Like a former jailer Hank living next door, or a very green classmate from school.
Almost from the very first shots, this film directed by Eric England creates the impression of a certain youth melodrama shot in some traditions of independent cinema and the Sundance festival including. Laying the foundation of any triangle and elevating it to the absolute as the plot develops.
The most interesting thing is that there is always something happening in the picture, but there is simply no need to talk about any development of the plot, the disclosure of characters and the movement of the narrative. The picture figuratively and literally tramples on one place and only in the last 10-15 minutes makes a sharp plot twist towards the promised thriller, which can be safely called the main advantage of the picture.
However, on the example of how almost an hour and a half of screen time the viewer willingly "feed" absolutely unnecessary action and 10-15 minutes trying to make up for a new phenomenon of history, to reveal the theme raised by the creators, they in my opinion failed. Creating the impression that the ending of the tape is the result of additional shooting after negative test views and in order to make the picture a little better.
The picture is not bad enough. We cannot say that the director of this film Eric England is a visionary, but he does not occupy the feelings of the frame and on-screen composition. The film turned out to be very stylish and unusual. As mentioned above, creating the impression of a kind of author's film. However, she also frankly suffers from an absolutely gray, emotionless and faded narrative throughout the film behind a stylish picture.
The star of “Game of Thrones” Sophie Turner perfectly got into the image exclusively from the visual point of view of the image. However, in my opinion, she did not draw the dramatic side of her character. Especially in the last 10-15 minutes of the film, which brought clarity to the acting abilities of Turner. Frankly disappointed Dylan McDermott, who got such a meager, dull and gray image that watching the attempts of the artist to conform to the image is simply unbearable.

Josie is a frankly weak and raw film that turned out to be completely different than its creators promised, and the last 10-15 minutes designed to “catch up” do not change the established order of things. The picture turned out to be absolutely empty and faceless. Allowing only meaningless to burn an hour and a half of your precious time watching this tape.
In a dull provincial town, where high school students burn through their youth in drug dens and alcoholic parties, and adults deeply do not care not only about them, but also about everyone else in the district, an extravagant, defiantly beautiful girl Josie comes. Not having time to disassemble the box from the move, the flirtatious flirts with her intractable neighbor opposite Hank, and school merchandisemen with not dried milk on their lips and completely lose their heads at the sight of the main character, who deliberately drives everyone crazy and openly manipulates a stupid man and a boy. What is this about?
Most of the film is not played by the proposed thriller, but by some real girl melodrama with the most ordinary love triangle, which must irrevocably split. The conflict situation, familiar to many, for obvious reasons, is inevitable - it remains only a matter of time when this unsociable and hiding from the public his skeletons in the closet Hank will turn on the man (for Dylan McDermott the whole film portrays some shy Lucia) and deal with this obscene girl, twisting her tail to the right and left, and her young friend. All this part of the film you have to look at the clock and ask, well, when at least something will happen, because the director specifically lulls the viewer with a slow narrative and real inaction of the characters, only sometimes giving an exhilarating slap in the form of another appearance of Sophie Turner in a swimsuit.
And then the incredible happens! Having already pretty much forgotten that he sat down to watch the thriller, the film lightningly changes direction and tries to correct itself for an hour and a half melodramatic retreat, giving a hard kulbit towards stories of revenge and retribution for what he did in the past. And everything would be fine, but everything happens somehow very quickly and crumpled, as if the creators were driven by someone, so that everyone would finish as soon as possible. Therefore, even having an interesting plot twist, "Josie" can not somehow develop it to leave behind a positive impression and calmly recommend to view. Yes, and Sophie Turner somehow tensely plays, as if she was forced (she did not at all overpower herself as an actress at the end), Dylan McDermott clearly became a victim of the ridiculous treatment of scriptwriters with his hero, but the director simply did not have enough experience in staging such paintings, so it turned out that they harnessed and harnessed an hour and a half, and the cart did not go.
