There is an American filmmaker, Larry Clark. The director of Kids, Sadista, Ken Park and, well, the new Martha 2 Girl is famous for his hoax of shameless sexuality. The director distinguished himself by his own style, which includes real sex scenes, close-ups of male genitalia, non-professional actors in the lead roles and the main idea, which lies in the demonstration of the destruction of youthful ideals. It sounds great, and it seems to go back to noble projects like the same “Children”, only during the party in the American independent cinema Clark peed. The director is hardly a full-fledged artist breaking the taboo of erotic freedom; rather, he has become some scumbag or freak masquerading as an aesthete. The disgusting style of voyeurism is characteristic of all his creations, but Clarke certainly did not succeed in it in recent films. So the continuation of one of the works of the elderly provocateur shows that the scandalist has lost talent: “The Girl from Martha 2” feels the most useless and bad sequel in the history of cinema, doing nothing but demonstrates the boredom of provincial America.
The film is set in Martha, a small desert town in Texas. The whole life of the Rednecks as in the palm of your hand, but the main character was chosen Adam - an image from the erotic fantasies of Larry Clark, represented by a dark-haired dark-haired young man. The script focuses on his sexual adventures, including his intersection with "The Girl" in the headline. Calling the “Girl from Martha 2” a film about the notorious harassment or even a dark novel of erotic obsession does not work: it is a continuation of the story of the original film, only without any facts, conclusions and results.
Mostly, The Martha Girl 2 focuses on improvised scenes. Timekeeping is 76 minutes of clutter. As such, the film has almost no classical structure: it is only Clark’s fantasies, stuffed with questionable sexuality, which became the meaning of the director’s life. The muse led the director somewhere wrong, in some dead end of self-admiration and obsession with his own personality.
The film feels like the last point in the creative biography of Larry Clark: his naturalistic and often dirty style of filming, glorifying the destruction and poverty of America, somehow bored and in the sequel “Girls” played against the film itself. In other words, Clark needed something he could return to, but because of the desire to show the public the same (ie, what the director “eat the dog”), the film eventually resulted in some “spherical horse in a vacuum” – physics replaced the soul, which does not contribute to reflection or comprehension of the material.
The Girl from Martha 2 is filled with screams and squeals: whether it’s crying children, struggling teenagers or young people in the process of unskillful sex. More eroticism, less dialogue, and the viewer begins to sigh with frustration. Considering the experience of photographer Clarke, "The Girl from Martha 2" at least looks good, but it is impossible to focus on viewing - it is difficult not to be disappointed when someone's erotic fantasies are planted instead of a film, posed as high-brow art.
