A true gentleman does not leave as soon as he wins. Real macho doesn't let the game wither.
Even some fifteen or twenty years ago, a film starring Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Renee Russo in the lead roles would invariably cause a serious stir. But, unfortunately, apparently, the peak of fame is already far behind, and the viewer is interested in their new projects only paying tribute to merit and authority. It's no joke to say, but Freeman is 80 and Jones is 70 (I won't speak for Rousseau because it's indecent). The consequence of this can be considered that their overall film in the genre of comedy with elements of action film ' Everything just begins', gathered a small audience in theaters, from this there was a box office failure (22 million dollars budget against 6 collected at the box office). The response to the film was mostly negative. It is a shame that this happened.
And even if you do not pay attention to the cult stars as part of the film ' Everything just begins', it makes the director and screenwriter talk about themselves. It was Ron Shelton. Once he was seriously engaged in baseball, but quickly ended his career and retrained as a filmmaker. And the greatest success was achieved by his work related to sports, among which was the film 'The Tin Cup' 1996 release, where the main female role was played by Rene Russo, so that the director and actress have long known each other. By the way, the last tape before ' Everything just begins' Shelton had ' Hollywood Cops' but it did not become successful, after which the director disappeared from the feature film as a director for a long 14 years.
In the comedy 'It's just beginning' the plot is based on the story of Duke Diver (Freeman). Once he was an accountant in the criminal structure, but then he confessed and got under the witness protection program. Now he leads an idle life as a manager in the entertainment complex ' Villa Carpi' (by the way, that was the original title of the film). But one day inadvertently Duke gets on video cameras and his past employers decide ' order ' Duke. At the same time, on ' Villa Carpi' comes a certain Leo (Jones), a former intelligence agent, and now retired and with all his success doing business. After Leo, Susie (Russo) is also announced, sent to deal with Duke’s activities as a manager. Attractive despite her age, the woman becomes the object of falling in love with both Duke and Leo, and they become enemy friends. And then there is the impending assassination attempt on Duke.
Not the most virtuoso plot, but quite tolerable and with high-quality staging and acting of actors could be a worthy film. In general, I personally, when I saw the scores ' It's just getting started', expected much worse, but as an entertaining and relaxing film, it's pretty much nothing. The status of a summer hit, of course, does not pull, but once deserves a viewing. Most of all, I liked the competitions that Freeman and Jones arranged in the fight for the charming Susie. Then they come up with some competitions, then they try to identify the winner in discussions. In this characteristically reveal their characters that Freeman, Jones. Freeman successfully embodies the talkative shirt-guy (or rather, the shirt-old), and Jones restrained type with a halo of mystery. Rene Rousseau is a little in their shadow, but tries hard when her character is in great danger, there is sarcasm, and sarcastic, and courage. In general, our favorite actors certainly do not fail roles, but they themselves have fun and try to give a good mood to their viewer.
I don’t know, but I haven’t noticed any special moments for which the film could be seriously criticized. Let the script not shine with originality, maybe not so many funny to colic in the stomach fragments, it is likely that here is not the best roles of our beloved Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and René Russo, although they embodied the images they confidently, knowing their business, but still such low ratings & #39; Everything just begins & #39; in my humble opinion does not deserve. It is quite possible to spend an hour and a half with him, relax, relax and sleep peacefully. I have done what I wish for you. And who knows, maybe it’s just beginning for Freeman, Jones and Russo, and we’ll see a lot of good movies with them. I would love that!

P.S. Unfortunately, this film was the last role for the beautiful actress Glenn Headley. .
With all due respect to the magnificent and legendary actors Tommy Lee Jones and Morgan Freeman, thanks to whom the world cinema has received many iconic characters and wonderful films, Everything Just Begins is a hefty cow cake in the middle of the road where the Oscar-winning actors stepped. To be honest, it is a pity that Jones and Freeman decided to spoil their track record with the so-called comedy, where the amount of humor splashes on about the same level as the meaning.
Director Ron Shelton, who directed this movie 72 years and it is quite possible that the main plot of “Everything just begins” he decided to make the theme that causes him sadness. The subject is sex. Due to the fact that the characters of Freeman and Jones literally every minute start conversations on the topic of “to dump someone in a bed”, the film turns into a kind of truth of the life of older people, because they, having gone on a well-deserved rest, need to somehow diversify their lives. How to do this – of course, continue to copulate, and if you managed to save money, you can play golf all day long.
The main operating area of the film is the Villa Capri, where the hero of Morgan Freeman spends day after day. There’s also Jones’s character and... And here we go. As it happens among two males - they need to measure their strength or devices (who can do anything) to win the hearts of the same old ladies as themselves, who live in the villa. In other words, Villa Capri is a rich boarding house for the elderly, who are allowed everything there, and the windshield there is Morgan Freeman, even in old age, who remains the king of parties.
The film loses its meaning at the very beginning, when you see in the commercial Morgan Freeman, lighting up in the villa. As you watch it, you understand why he lives there, and it seems strange that his persona appears in advertising about Capri. After all, in the position in which he is, in theory, he should sit like a mouse, be quieter than water, below the grass. Further narration boils down to the same clarification of the relationship between two elderly men, and if Jones in the frame looks very good, then Freeman, it seems, was too old for this role. At least in some scenes he gave the impression of a weak old man, but not an alpha male.
“Everything is just beginning” hardly evokes associations with comedy in the way in which the viewer is used to understanding the meaning of this word. Everything that is veiled here as having a humorous message can maximally cause a smile, but not a laugh. Most of those situations that are collected and demonstrated here are episodes where the actors themselves try to play funny, because neither the dialogue nor the events that are happening are simply not funny.
Yes, once again indignant due to the fact that the posters for the film absolutely to no place slaps “From the creators”. If the films “Rock and Roll Man” and “Kiss Through” are cool, then “Everything Just Begins” is terrible both as a comedy and as an action movie, but its creators did not fail to print “From the Creators...” on their poster, trying to catch a gullible viewer in their networks.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
Judging by these genres, “Everything Just Begins” is an action movie and comedy. If you do not watch the movie, you can even believe in this characterization.
Tommy Lee Jones, the same Tommy Lee Jones from “Men in Black”, “The Fugitive” and “Guardians of the Law” appears here in an actor’s duet with the no less famous Morgan Freeman in the role of elderly nerds under Viagra. Unfortunately, otherwise, the role of these characters of the theater of the absurd, failed directing and mental retardation is difficult to characterize.
Villa Capri is the perfect place to live your life. A kind of open-air nursing home, where Freeman - once a successful mafia lawyer - courtesy of all free ladies and plays golf with his "friends" who resemble the preparatory group of a kindergarten.
Senile idyll breaks the hero Tommy Lee Jones, who first wins against Freeman in poker, and then begins to fight with him for the heart of Rene Russo.
The whole situation is complicated by the fact that Freeman is being hunted by the family he once worked for.
Unfortunately, this is something that cannot be saved either by the cast, or by flat jokes put into the mouths of once successful actors, or by a “life-affirming” plot, or by a festive theme. All this only suggests thoughts of necrophilia and abuse of cultural memory.

It all begins when a nervous rich lady, cleaning her house, suddenly sees on TV the man who put her husband in prison - Duke (Morgan Freeman). At the same moment, she calls her loved one and says, “The only Christmas present I want is the head of this rat in a bag.” And from that moment on, the viewer understands two things. First of all, the film is saturated with a good Christmas atmosphere! Secondly, it becomes clear to us what the conflict will be in this film and, in general, the further plot is easy to predict.
It's a pretty easy way of explaining. First Duke (Morgan Freeman) breaks off at Villa Capri. Everyone loves him and women come to him and go to bed with him, accepting that they are not the only ones with Duke. But everything changes when Leo (Tommy Lee Jones) comes to the villa, who wipes Duke’s nose in everything. Throughout the film, the leitmotif is the development of their relationship. From competition and hostility to something more. This topic is revealed corny and simple, as in a fairy tale (well, or as in an easy American comedy.) and it is unclear what good Leo found in Duke, given the peculiarities of their communication.
The image of Leo is clichéd and simple: a rich ex-agent of the FBI, who plays poker best, and in golf is not inferior to anyone, and paints landscapes, and all the ladies fascinates, and understands poetry, and tames dogs ... is not this a fabulous hero? The images here are pretty simple. Duke himself is a seducer, a cunning, a daring man. Duke’s trio of friends is not a new movie. As well as uniting three friends with three women who were not lucky enough to become the ladies of the main characters. You have to put them somewhere this is an easy comedy, here it is so customary.
Who wanted to kill Duke and for what? This topic was revealed only from excerpts of the dialogue of a nervous rich woman on the phone and was never fully disclosed. And what happens after the hero movie? It's not clear either.
In general, this comedy brings no tension to the mind, no new or at least interesting techniques. An ordinary mediocre movie that can only be laughed at if you come in the company of humorous friends who will joke about what is happening on the screen. Despite the fact that the genre of the film is “comedy”, little has survived from comedy: no funny jokes, no absurdity of the situation, of the funny characters, only Duke and his support group sometimes caused a small smile. This film is like a butterfly, which is why it reminded me of a fairy tale. But nothing can be done! This is a genre of light American comedy for one view.

Any film with Morgan Freeman is doomed to success. This story is no exception. For all the holidays, we never got a single New Year’s story, and that’s it. Hot resort passions, old American jazz and subtle humor. He is currently in short supply.
The plot is twisted perfectly. Three old swindlers against hitmen. Music. Passion. Clearly written characters against the background of depraved ladies amaze with solid dialogues and clear grins.
This movie will hook everyone. Actors from three generations. A story that can be understood without translation. Not without the legends of the world pop. The whole script stuffing is perfectly tucked into editing. Drive in every frame. There is a slight inflection with a melodramatic element, although here the insert to the place.
Of course, admitting that great old men are already deep retirees is a bit sad. They really do it right. Experience is not going anywhere. In general, the film is like a light vaudeville. A lot of dancing. Run. However, the writers did everything to make this feeling go away quickly.

This is one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen. During the viewing of the whole film, there was laughter only 2 times in the hall, the rest of the time there was grave silence.
Of course Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones are great, but you can’t pull a movie out with a game when there’s nothing to play. The primitive plot never captured or forced at least somehow to empathize with the heroes.
Also incredibly annoying constantly popping up the topic of sex. It seems that the action of the film was not in a village for the elderly, but in a brothel or swinger club. I'm not a prude, but sex in the movies should be appropriate. There was no sex here, but the topic rose to the place and out of place. 80% of the jokes were about fucking someone. It seems that the film was shot in Russia, and the script was written by former KVN.
Most of all, the film resembled a cheap comedy from the 90s. Badly shot, badly played (except Freeman and Lee Jones), not interesting.
So Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones exchanged the eighth decade, gradually giving way to younger and more active colleagues in the Hollywood sky. But this does not mean that it is time for comrades to retire, because they have not yet run out of gunpowder! That Freeman that Jones continue to actively act and please fans with a quality choice of roles. “It’s just beginning” once again confirms the fact that Freeman and Jones on vacation is definitely not the place, and their young colleagues should take the example of veterans who have not yet forgotten how to light!
The plot of “It’s Just Beginning” takes us to the luxurious Villa Capri, perhaps the most ideal place on the planet, if you are guaranteed over 60 and want to spend the rest of your days in the chic surroundings of a country resort. It was here that Duke decided to settle, once a famous lawyer, now retired for some intriguing reasons. And there was no sadness in his life until Leo, a broken guy, appeared on the horizon, making all the inhabitants of Villa Capri literally circle around him. But at this point, Duke's troubles are just beginning.
In a sense, "It's Just Beginning" is like two such famous and beloved 80s films as "Cocoon" and "Before Midnight", only with a very unexpected creative duet of Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones. Personally, I don’t remember that they previously lit up together in the same frame in the title roles, but now they together and give a light to everyone who looks at them wrong. And although some scenes of the film may seem too far-fetched, this will not in any way affect the overall positive mood of the plot.
So, it’s just beginning as one of the most intriguing comedies of recent times. Yes, this is not an exemplary movie, but it will definitely cause you emotions. Isn’t that the most important thing?
Finishing business in the office, the famous lawyer Duke (Morgan Freeman) moved to the villa Capri and under a false name managed to finally relax. As a witness in one dangerous case, the hero received all the privileges of the state protection program, which he immediately took advantage of. Elegant room for relaxation in a calm, quiet building, a leisurely meal in a refined society, the opportunity to engage in your favorite hobby without any restrictions.
All this became an ordinary pastime for the former court tycoon and he had already forgotten about any worries, as the peace and comfort of Villa Capri was violated by Leo (Tommy Lee Jones), a formidable but polite and charming ex-FBI agent who has a special case for Duke.
Fresh roles in Everything Just Beginning have been one of the best for Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones over the past few years. Increasingly, they are sent to the background, forcing them to play along with Steve Carrell or Will Smith, which is somewhat unfair to such sophisticated gray-haired quantities. And now Freeman, along with Jones, again remembered the former cheerful days, having fun on the set of this winding comedy.
To tell you the truth, my sympathetic leader was Tommy Lee Jones. In the vast majority of his paintings, he looks overly serious, overconfident and tough. Here he also plays on his cult character, only in addition to the steely look and strong word Jones, it turns out, also knows how to joke. Indeed, all the moments with him deserve the loudest applause. Jones ideally learned the rule that the best joke should be told with a calm face. That's what happened!
Morgan Freeman plays more calmly and delicately. But he manages several times to have such a good time, performing absolutely unimaginable things for an elderly person. And with Tommy Lee Jones, he's amazing. When these two get together, it's going to be something crazy and extravagant. There's no other way.
Bottom line: if there is a desire to have a great time in the company of your favorite actors, then “It’s just beginning” just need to take note. This is just a great comedy that can lift the mood to the highest level!

I’ve always liked the light, unassuming adventurous comedies in the style of Frank Oz’s “Drunk Fraudsters” and “Bluff” with Adriano Celentano. When you watch such films, you do not think that their plot is full of some logical inaccuracies, script assumptions and other nuances that can not be forgiven for serious cinema. Instead, you enjoy a great acting, have fun with the accompaniment of sparkling jokes and just wonder how someone came up with the idea to make such a movie. And then the comedy "It's Just Beginning" came out, making me remember good old movies that have no statute of limitations.
One of the main characters is the former lawyer Duke performed as always by the magnificent Morgan Freeman. Escaped from the world to Villa Capri, the old man seems to have found his paradise. Pretty ladies try to flirt with him every now and then, refreshing drinks never end in a glass, and your favorite jazz can be listened to even to the blue of the bags under your eyes! But it could not go on forever.
Along with the arrival in the boarding house of a certain Leo (Tommy Lee Jones), Duke began to rapidly lose ground, because firstly, the beginner automatically attracts attention to himself, secondly, he knows how to please women, and thirdly, at the card table with whiskey at hand he has no equal. Feeling a sharp annoyance, Duke decides to do small things in the direction of Leo, but the worst is just beginning! Longtime enemies of Duke came on his trail and without the participation of Leo can not do.
The film directed by Ron Shelton takes all the best from the good old adventurous comedies of thirty years ago and at the same time flaunts an amazingly good talent. And this despite the fact that the main cast of the tape has long been far beyond... But let’s not go into unnecessary numbers. The important thing is that “Everything is just beginning” has the property of pulling into yourself and not letting go until the very end.
So there’s nothing better than taking a break from high-profile blockbusters and watching a real feature movie where actors are the most valuable, not expensive special effects and stunts. “It’s just beginning” is definitely worth getting to know.
