Buster villain In the cold expanses of the cruel North, a man appears whose heart is no warmer than the surrounding snow and ice.
So many times having already played a positive hero who caused sympathy and sympathy in the viewer, Buster Keaton decides to try on the image of a villain. And together with Eddie Cline, he makes a partly serious, partly parody film about a loving scoundrel.
The main character at first looks unremarkable person, but gradually begins to manifest his gangster nature. He is capable of robbery, violence and even murder. He embodies everything that Keaton’s comic hero fought against in other films. It is very unusual to see a kind Keaton, whose characters mostly behave like gentlemen, in such a negative image. He was very good at playing such a villain.
There is a significant amount of cruelty in the plot of the short, but, nevertheless, it remains a funny comedy, because here Buster Keaton parodies the melodramas of his time and the westerns of actor William S. Hart, whose career was already in the sunset. Among all the tricks Buster invented for this story, it was the fishing scene near the hole that became one of the most famous farcical episodes in the history of cinema, subsequently its various interpretations can often be seen in cartoons. And in the final Buster did not disappoint, remaining true to himself.
A positive comedian is sometimes useful for a change to turn into a real villain.
