The car is for the body. A motorcycle is for the soul.
Those who have never sat down for a bike, I am not even talking about those who did not pedal the bike, will not understand why he moved from the car to the scooter. And if you think it's just because of savings, you're wrong. This is freedom!
And the hero of this film is not a loser, and vice versa! After all, he did not even have an education, did not become a street resident, did not slide to drugs, but on the contrary tried to achieve something, and even after dismissal, did not hear from him “I am already old, who will take me.”
I believe that the film gives some support, mature segments of society, and motivation!
I didn’t see anything disgusting in the film, which I’m very happy about. No blood, no slaughter, no violence in any form. Appreciate such films, and if it is not clear what it is about, and causes some disgust, then you are not mature or selfish.
What happens with old Larry Crown is something that can befall everyone and no one is immune from such events. You owe your country a debt of 20 years, you succeed in your career, and then just for a moment, and now... you are left with nothing. It is difficult to start all over again, when a certain part of the journey of life is traversed.
I love this theme in movies, because losing just one moment determines only 2 further actions: or start fighting again for a place in the sun, or finally give up. In truth, this choice is one of the most difficult. But such stories are really a powerful motivator and a kind of impetus to continue life. If you've ever watched "The Pursuit of Happiness," you realize that sometimes even the strongest personalities give weakness, and how merciless life can be to us. Of course, “Larry Crown” is significantly inferior to “The Pursuit of Happiness” in almost all respects, except that first-class actors in the lead roles: that “Will Smith” that “Tom Hanks” are truly able to surprise you and more than once.
I love Tom Hanks incredibly, but probably after Larry Crown, I can say that as an actor he is much better than a director. But there is definitely something to praise him for. Well, first of all, Mr. Tom Hanks is always capable of pulling any movie out of his boundless talent, and the rest of the actors are smart. As an executive producer, the situation with Hanks is much more rosy. But, given his talent, we can assume that in the future Tom will still be able to please us with his work, being in the director's chair.
Good in this genre Julia Roberts, whose smile is still fascinating. Moreover, secondary characters also look great, such as Taraji P. Henson, Rita Wilson (Tom's wife) and others.
“Larry Crown” is a very light and unobtrusive film that best conveys the nature of Tom Hanks himself. This is a movie that will look good on a Saturday or Sunday morning, or after a difficult school day. Yes, of course, this film is not a masterpiece, but it can leave positive emotions and brighten up the everyday routine.

"Courageous Spirit" in Japanese.
- No, it's soy sauce in Chinese.
Perhaps it’s all a sense of humor, or even simpler – the different worldviews and mentalities of two different nations have done their job, but this film absolutely does not reach the average Russian. All the characters are flat, making predictable actions so unoriginally straightforward, and all in order to prove the uppermost truths at the end. Without a job, without money, suffering a fiasco in his personal life, strangling with a mortgage, the main character goes to university to raise his price in the eyes of his superiors. The very personification of aspiration and love of life. The heroine is an alcoholic with experience, which no one appreciates, and first of all there is no self-respect. Her main joy is the alcoholic cocktail. This joy is stable, because it is achieved daily with success by the heroine. The heroine represents an enlightenment that the current generation does not need. A fifty-year-old student in need of knowledge enters her life, and this new taste, which acquired her life, fell to her taste. There is also a fat African-American with a sense of humour, and an arrogant girl with a sense of taste. These secondary heroes do not save the main ones. On the contrary, they further spoil the mediocre picture.
By the way, everyone here notes who is happy with what, who aspires to what, what he thinks about – the right move, because these characters are absolutely not clear to me, and what to crook for the sake of my soul, are not at all cute and not interesting.
Here you will be told how you can be a smart professor in America, a beautiful woman and drink every day, because limited students do not appreciate you as a teacher, and your worthless spouse does not love you as a woman. She decided to choose the most ridiculous scenario for her life.
Her transformation at the end is stretched out by the ears, because the “pulling by the ears” Larry also does not inspire much trust.
"Larry Crown" does not bribe, which is why you do not even try to take a step towards this film. Famous actors did not gain fame with this film. Remembering Roberts or Hanks, you can mention in the conversation many interesting roles, among which “Larry Crown” would be sacrilege.
Yeah, it's boring. Don't waste 90 minutes on it.
To me, Tom Hanks is not just a household name. This “combination” is a guarantee of an exciting quality film. Tonight, I turned on Larry Crown, anticipating a triple (Hanks actor, Hanks director and screenwriter!) portion of the fun.
But the movie disappointed me. Despite the interesting exposition (the main character is "stated" right in the credits of the film, a minute after - already a set and the main conflict), the good performance of the actors (Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts - played partners after "Charlie Wilson's War"), it was absolutely impossible to empathize with the diligent good man Larry and unhappy in the personal life of Miss Theino. Something was missing in the plot, which should have caused, at least, a sense of pride for Larry: the man managed to recover after the “blow”, stand firmly on his feet and find the love of his life (that Miss Teino is the “love of his life” – is already a spectator’s “think”. Unfortunately, such an emotion was not experienced in the final. The film had only one wish - to turn it off and go to bed. But I watched (this is Tom Hanks!), reinforcing some moments with an overly long yawn.
The picture could not pull out the “claim for the funny” in the face of the guy Talia. Sometimes it was funny (when he tried to be jealous of Larry), but not funny.
“Larry Crown” could be called a “passage” film in the work of Tom Hanks, if it was not his “full-scale” work. Hanks is a great actor, but... not everyone can successfully combine several directions.

But I wanted to show that in this incredibly wonderful film there are so many funny, but such life statements that you unwittingly remember them.
The film is so lifelike that I can watch it several times a day, and that doesn’t mean I’ll be sick of it in a week’s time. it’s one of those movies I want to watch over and over again (by the way, such films only feature Tom Hanks; I consider him an incredibly talented and extremely versatile actor, such as I have never seen again, unfortunately).
I read one review and I was surprised by Larry Crown's comparison to Forrest, they are two completely different characters and there is no hint in the film of their similarity either in character or even in appearance. Remember Forrest - his main feature was that his somewhere extraordinary stupidity he could achieve incredible success: whether it's running across America or participating in the war in Afghanistan, table tennis championships or shrimp fishing - everywhere there were such funny moments that made him laugh without stopping, and as for Lens - here we see no longer an adult child, but a person who is looking for his life path, trying to change everything for the better, wants to be sure of tomorrow and, realizing, albeit later than never, he sends an education, they also help him, and change his friend.
So I'd like to say a huge thank you to Tom Hanks for this beautiful, kind and so magical film that helped me answer one important question for me. Yes, life is not easy, but even on the blackest tablecloth, you can find a white spot, despite all the bad moments that manage to find you, you need to find at least a little bit of happiness, the smallest, because the way we tune ourselves and what we think, all this governs us, we decide whether something suits us or not.
Believe in the best of everything. do as you see fit. live as you want. be where you see yourself happy. and in everything, please be yourself... like Larry Lens Crown!!

"Larry Crown". According to the description, it was a promising film. Of course, not a couple of “Forrest Gump”, but clearly you could expect something more lively. In fact, even in this vein, there are films that fall into the soul. For some reason everything is so sluggish and slow.
History was to become a life situation that could happen to any citizen in any country. Larry Crown is fired from his job because he has no education. And he follows him to college. His group is clearly a growing generation. I mean, there's a teacher overseeing them. She will be the number one female writer. Of course there were other teachers. For example, there was a funny Asian teaching the basics of economics. And even in such a trifle, you can recognize our academic years as: "Buy my book, otherwise you will not understand my subject."
But back to "our sheep." Apparently, the screenwriters thought that the relationship between an age student and a luminary science can develop too quickly (correctly, both are not young), so they put just completely uninteresting characters. Some scooter club. Some jealous man... What's that for?
But, to the credit of the creators, it was interesting to watch the development of relations between the main characters. It just takes up little space in the picture. They seem to have an emphasis.
Tom Hanks Maybe it’s a role, maybe it’s not — I don’t know — but his character is as sluggish as the film itself. Julia Roberts, perhaps, “grown” to such serious roles. No complaints about her.
I just can't highlight anything more. It seemed interesting in the movie. And just as exactly until the last minute I watched and thought: Yes, when it will end this boring movie ...
I find it hard to say whether this movie is worth watching. If you are a lover of melodramas, or a personal fan of Hanks or beauty Roberts, then even the question can not stand. If not, hardly. I think so.
Indeed, it is never too late to live. Not everyone, and not always on time, realizes it. So, the hero of the film, as if, began with a clean slate, cast off the shackles of his everyday reality and began to learn new pleasant little things. Tom Hanks chose the right film for his directing job. The age is already quite mature. The man lived, looked at the world around him in different angles, played in many excellent films. In short, I have gained experience.
“Larry Crown” is a fairly simple and uncomplicated movie. And so, for that, I fell in love with him. Such films are definitely needed by the viewer. Not everyone will appreciate it. But I appreciate it. The film absorbed several genre scents. This is a drama that is felt in the ordinary, at first glance, story of an ordinary person. It's an easy comedy for soul rest. It's a romantic story, after all. And let it be, without “getting stars from the sky”, without loud inspiring phrases and hot hugs. But you can feel it. However, the picture does not pretend to be wedged into the list of the best of the best. Yeah, she doesn't really need that. With this film, director Tom Hanks, one of my favorites (by the way, this is a title he deserved), just gives the viewer a dose of reflections and simple truths that we all already know. But as they say, repetition is the mother of learning. Like that. I want to mention that the actors played very well. No comparisons, I will not make. Yeah. That's not Tom's best role. And not Julia's best role. But these are their full-fledged, interesting and vivid roles. Tom doesn't lose his charm over the years. Julia Roberts is still capable of exciting men. Cedric "Entertainer" looks great in his role. The others looked convincing. Music by James Newton Howard, so the compositions are well selected. The work of the operator, in general, left a pleasant impression.
To recommend this film is probably not for everyone. He will probably not like everyone. Because of its simplicity, simplicity, even, sometimes, some unpretentiousness in the plot, this movie will seem mediocre to someone. However, thanks to the high-quality and confident play of the actors, bright and soulful episodes and life prerequisites, the tape will please. It's never too late to learn. It is never too late to love. It is never too late to live.
Man is a strange creature. We often dream of changes in our lives, but when they do come, and they always come unexpectedly, rush in panic or burrow under the warm blanket of depression. Few people steadfastly accept the blows of fate, even if later it turns out that it was necessary and led to the most rosy consequences. Changing your life is as difficult as starting over. With age, we overgrown with habits, prejudices, attachments and a whole wagon of problems that are not easy to get rid of.
The story of Larry Crown is simple and understandable to the absolute majority, and therefore we will run through it briefly, in order to roughly imagine the essence of the film, the producer, director and main star of which is the well-known Tom Hanks.
... After 20 years in the Navy as a ship’s cook, a quiet American named Larry Crown returns to his hometown, where he gets a job as a seller in a local supermarket. Larry's personal life somehow didn't work out, his wife left him, they didn't make children. In the proud use of our hero there was a spacious house, part of which is still pledged to the bank, and a massive collection of vinyl records. And then Larry gets a stab in the back: the management of the supermarket, instead of another title of “Best seller of the year”, gives him the news of his dismissal. Like, sorry, old man, but we need people with education, not twenty years of experience in cooking pasta in the Navy and peeling potatoes on the galley.
Depressed Larry begins to look for a job, but the times are difficult and all the potentially tasty places are already occupied by Mexicans and Chinese. There is nothing to do, once such a drunkenness has gone, he collects the remnants of courage and goes to a local institute, where he is promised to teach economics, informal communication and other wisdoms of life.
Financial stress forces Larry to switch from a bulky jeep to a scooter. Now he looks just like a student, except he's thirty years older. That doesn't stop him from making new friends and even falling in love with his teacher, Mrs. Taino. A diligent student and a modest catering worker, Larry soon wins the respect of his classmates and wins the heart of a closed and disappointed teacher in life.
Honestly, I didn't expect Tom Hanks to do something so primitive. It's not surprising when you think about it, because Hanks is not a director. His debut musical melodrama "What You Do" (which, by the way, is very similar in style to "Larry Crown") was released in 1996, and since then Hanks has not dared to touch directing. The hope was that after a few powerful acting roles, which he pleased his fans and me in particular, Hanks at least learn something from his colleagues and close comrades (Spielberg, Zemeckis and other high-ranking gentlemen of Hollywood). Alas and ah.
Larry Crown is not just a bad game, but a helpless game in a good lineup. It is like a performance in the sports arena of the Russian national football team. It seems that the players are all in place, and the grass is green, and the sun even confidently shines into the eyes of the opponent’s goalkeeper, and the ball stubbornly continues to fly into our goal.
The biography of the “human drama” of the seller, forced to sit down again behind the school bench, causes not at all tenderness (I am silent about compassion), but pure bewilderment. Complete absence of any intrigue, emotions, explosion of feelings. Hanks and his partner Julia Roberts look more like zombies than real people. I don’t know, maybe they are in life, arrogant and boring, but why do viewers need this stupid information?
The “little tragedies” of the American middle class are alien to us. We cannot understand these childless intellectuals and workers. But even the compatriots Hanks his creation somehow did not appreciate. Because everything is flat. And incredibly boring. And even the love of the main characters is kind of bland. It's like you're not in a movie theater, but you're peeping out the window for your neighbors.
The secondary characters have succeeded. That's what usually happens. While the main character cools down in the shadows, all the work is done by extras. In fact, the film holds on to them. I would especially like to mention Cedric “Entertainer” as Lamar’s neighbor-drummer. Cedric was not given much to turn around here, but even in rare moments of his presence in the frame, he completely eclipses the gray and undescript Hanks. George Takei’s laughter is also remembered in the cute image of economics professor Dr. Matsutani. And pretty Englishwoman Gugu Mbatha-Row, who played a charming student Talia. That's all it is.
Usually in my film reviews, I lament the mediocrely missed opportunities of the script. But in this case, there was no prospect. Despite my sincere respect for Tom Hanks’ acting, Larry Crown is a waste of money and energy. A rare case when a film product is so ordinary that you do not even want to draw attention to it.

I decided to watch this film before I knew who was involved in it, just by title, it reminded me of Forrest, although I thought the film would be an action movie.
When I got to know Tom Hanks, I knew it was going to be a useful or at least enjoyable pastime. The actor from Hanks is wonderful, we already knew that he was a good writer and director. We've seen a lot of pictures of this actor, and we've seen them make us think, look around, or just look at things more easily. We learned these lessons from our heroes.
This time we were shown the everyday life of a simple employee, a consultant salesman. In the past, as a mass audience, we've seen special people played by Hanks. Now he is such a hard worker who does everything with diligence and perseverance. That's probably how our hero was in life. Once in college, and thus giving a start to a new life, he showed himself to be a workaholic, although everywhere he ripened and found his associates. He inspired me to fight laziness in all its manifestations, while moving slowly but surely.
This film gives us food to think about the themes that surround us in everyday life, which we have long treated as things that will remain this way forever, and in this world everything is constantly changing, progressing, transforming. Roberts' character ponders this. So, she's pissed off by her husband, who pretends to be a diligent hard worker, sitting in front of the computer pants. She's probably pissed off about her students, the way they feel about her class. This woman wants to meet someone sincere. Looking at her image, you can think about the attitude of modern people to many things, such as marriage. In this film, most people treat it as an imposed mistake of the past. Some have gotten rid of it, others continue to carry the burden for granted, and that’s fine. That's probably why when Professor Roberts first shows up, we see her tired, she doesn't care. Later, we understand, she genuinely cares whether she gives valuable knowledge to her students, whether they will be useful to them. Maybe she's also wondering if she's influencing anyone in the world, if there's any benefit to her existence.
The benefits clearly come right along with the energy from a motorcycle girl. She annoyed me, I confess. It was the news of the film that there was a scene in which she left college. She opened up to me from the other side. Before that, all her actions seemed too provocative to me, then I realized how sincere she was with everyone and with herself.
This movie makes sense to watch. It raises issues of modern society and society as a whole. Do you need higher education, do you need to be sincere with yourself and others, can you do it, can you correct yourself and much more. Everyone here finds meaning for themselves.
I bet the film is simple, from the series “Forrest Gump has grown up”, but the emotions remained only positive. And this film can not be called a one-off, if I come across it in the future, changing channels, I will stay and watch again with great pleasure. Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, and if I see his name in the credits, I’ll see the movie because I know Tom isn’t in a bad movie. And Larry Crown. Tom didn't let me down. This film is the same as Tom (about what he and the writer, and the director, learned already in the final credits), at first glance mediocre and boring, but look closely and see the priceless treasures of his soul, boundless kindness, childlike spontaneity, mind and experience, not tampered with cynicism, and easy pleasant humor... Which cannot but be respected. What's the drama? Such a simpleton as Larry in America is simply called a loser, he is a loser himself, and without work he is elevated to the third degree in this rank. However, Larry did not succumb to depression and unfavorable circumstances at first glance, took himself together and decided to start everything in a clean slate, that is, he challenged fate. Maybe it is not very clear for us what the tragedy is, but for a local person to be without a job is like being out of life, a credit account, housing, respect, weight in society immediately goes into the minus. Consider the wave of suicides in the United States at the height of the recent crisis. So this film is just for them and is important, it teaches not to give up, teaches with hope to look forward, teaches not to be afraid to trust others, teaches us not to be afraid of change, teaches us the phrase “Everything is done, everything is for the better” familiar from childhood. Melodramaticity in the romantic line with Julia Roberts, but the melodrama is subtle and gentle, without the vulgarity and nudity that is fashionable nowadays, causing not the desire to squander rather (pardon) snot with sugar, but rather smile. Comedy is also present, although many for some reason do not see it. Light humor flows through the looks, gestures, hovers in the atmosphere of the film. I had a smile on my face. I am saddened by the fact that my favorite actors are noticeably aging, and the young are not yet “catch”... I read that one married couple, when they ran into Tom Hanks at one of the gas stations after the release of Larry Crown, told the director that they did not like his film. Hanks, apologizing for disappointing them, gave the couple $25 for paid tickets. He promised to “do everything possible to make the next film better.” If I met Tom Hanks in the parking lot, I'd shake his hand. That's it! 8 out of 10 Original
I was not yet familiar with the work of Tom Hanks as a director, which he had before the release of Larry Crown. Interest in the film was spurred by the fact that in the main female role was a magnificent Julia Roberts. Two most powerful actors in one bottle - this is the pledge of genuine interest of the audience to the picture.
But interest, but the film itself should please. The names "Tom Hanks" and "Julia Roberts" speak for themselves and are brand names, which is why the tape "Larry Crown" was so critical. I did not expect something stunning, but prepared for the contemplation of a light romantic melodrama, in which Hanks and Roberts have long been “dog eaten”. Of course, I would like something more sensitive and deep, but we have what we have.
The plot, written by the joint efforts of the same Tom Hanks and Nia Vardalos (I like her work since My Big Greek Wedding) does not have something multilayered, does not contain fraught context, it is just a movie about people of Balzac age. That’s why I looked more at Larry Crown under the prism of acting. The first person, of course, is Tom Hanks himself. A young, unmarried workaholic with no higher education. Because of this, he is kicked out of work, and he goes to graduate from college, where he gets to the elective of oratory, and the teacher, of course, plays Julia Roberts. Tom Hanks played what he knows if he wakes up in the middle of a dream, that is, such a sweet, romantic hero, glorious and so pleasant as if he was a teddy bear. Tom Hanks looked tired, somewhat tortured, apparently working on three fronts made him extremely tired, which made him look even older than his age in the frame. We know that Hanks can be much better.
Julia Roberts, unexpectedly, a good half "Larry Crown" caused irritation in his way. She seemed like a blank wall, not ready for any relationship, she was quite enough flirting. But then she is transformed and, as is often the case in films with the participation of Roberts, causes strong sympathy, once again you can plunge into the pool of her sparkling look, be fascinated by her wide and alluring smile. Around the same time, the actors formed a sincere duet, and the film began to radiate more romantic rays.
To ignore the very good nature of this film actress Gugu Mbatu-Row I have no moral right. This nice girl created a very soulful image, and if there were more such people on our planet, the world would seem bright and kind to us. For her character, you can not say that she looks at everything through rose-colored glasses, she creates one that you can look at without glasses and rejoice that not all good has yet gone from people. Wilmer Valderrama was held hostage by the duality of his character: on the one hand he is a textured guy, and on the other he is very warm and sensitive, he is exactly the one who the heroine needs. Added color, albeit stereotypical, but such a human natural Cedric "Entertainer" and Taraji P. Henson
“Larry Crown” is a relatively average romantic melodrama with the strongest actors, but the fact that it will bring light and goodness to your thoughts is undeniable.

A person can change his life by changing his point of view.
This movie either absolutely likes it or categorically does not. “How many people – so many opinions,” you say. I will say otherwise: to the incorrigible optimists, to look; to the ruthless realists, who do not leave a stone on a stone alive, to look. It's simple.
The first directorial work of Tom Hanks tells the story of a guy Larry Crown, who in adulthood there are many life troubles: he is fired from his job, he has a mortgage debt, and he does not know what to do with his life. Meanwhile, Larry does not despair, quietly drinking from piling up adversity, and decides to change his life. He's going to college. Here all the cliches of this film begin, for which, in fact, Hanks is criticized as a director and screenwriter. Kicked out of work? It's never too late to learn. Is the bank about to confiscate all the property? Open an economics textbook. Do you feel morally outdated? Communicate more with young people, they will choose the color of your scarf to match the color of your shoes; It is not necessary to look for a deep background and hidden meaning where it lies on the surface.
As for the cast, the mere involvement of actors like Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts has already determined in principle whether or not I would watch the film. They are wonderful, amazingly talented and a number of admiring epithets. And this movie is no exception. Tom Hanks as the main character is convincing, organic, in my opinion, he is very suitable for the role of such kind, positive, but slightly “abnormal” eccentrics. Julia Roberts plays his oratorical teacher, a professor who has long been uninterested in his work, and a woman who has long been indifferent to her husband. About Julia can only say one thing - she is always charming!
In this film you will not see sparkling humor, incredible love line or deep drama. The main character is not a vampire, in the film there is not a single shot, death, chase in a cool car, a vulgar scene - so half of the audience he is already in principle will not be interesting. And the rest of you, sit down comfortably with a cup of cocoa and remember that life begins there, where you, like Larry Crown, step out of your comfort zone.
Oh... how few films are truly good and encouraging to do good deeds... Without a doubt, “Larry Crown” is one of those not many.
It was a bit disappointing to read negative reviews. But what can you do here – how many people, so many opinions, we will not be upset because some have forgotten the basics of society, namely, the good is always in honor, I think this applies to all areas of our lives, and cinema as well.
As for the film itself, in my soul it left a kind and positive mark, I am an emotional and impressionable nature and just adore accidental collisions with good films. I also happened to see this movie on TV. I do not regret a minute spent watching the movie.
I think in our time, when people are starting to forget the basic morals, we need films like this, we need more good everywhere, and what can we see now in the film industry? In most cases, directors do not rely on the deep meaning and purpose of the film for the audience, but on the so-called “sightability”, that is, the film should bring a lot of money and make noise in the media. In the same case, Tom Hanks made a bet on the first point, therefore, “lost” in the eyes of sophisticated viewers who are more accustomed to “sightability”.
And now for the movie itself:
The plot of the film seemed to me very interesting and instructive, because this is a story about how a person already at an age who seems to have already lived his life, there was nothing left for him except to sit in a chair and murmur about politics. But the wrong person has been attacked, and among millions of people there will be one who will not obey the laws of society and fate. It is interesting to see the clash of different generations in the film. And what I liked the most was that Larry was well received by younger people, helped him rise through tough times. I think this is a really good example for both the younger generation and the older generation, it encourages us to go to meet each other and try to understand and find a common language.
- acters, as in my opinion, perfectly performed their roles, Tom Hanks was able to correctly and clearly convey the inner world and experiences of Larry Crown, who at a certain point everything in his life went wrong, Julia Roberts is really a professional in his field, she coped well with the task set before her, which is about the secondary characters, they very successfully complemented the main line of the film, you know, if you do not care, then you can say that there were no secondary roles at all, because each character contributes to the picture of the film something important. It’s like a puzzle – every detail is important and from such small details a good movie is made.
The overall impression of the film is very positive, especially I would like to advise this film to those who have had bad times and a bad life period. Because there really are films that encourage action and achievement after watching them.
My personal opinion is that Larry Crown is a good and positive film, which is clearly lacking in our time. Therefore, do not be afraid to spend an extra hour watching it and you definitely will not have to regret it.

A talented person is talented in everything. This little bit of a cliché fits the thoughts of anyone who knows about Tom Hanks. As one of the most gifted actors of our time, he polished his talent and mastered it. But he has little acting, so a piece of his energy and skill captures the direction. And then you can understand that a person like Tom can do a little more than "perfectly"!
Larry Crown proves this to us. At first glance, it seems that Mr. Hanks’ directorial work is a standard, slightly template romantic comedy about a loser who ends up with a beauty. But is it possible to talk about one-sidedness and stereotype when the name of Tom Hanks looms in the background? Therefore, before our eyes, this plot changes and becomes a surprisingly clever and subtle ironic reasoning about life, about success, about love. And the simple guy Larry, who seems so similar to those characters that became Tom's calling card, is much more interesting and complex. He's timid, but not indecisive. Naive, but not stupid. Responsive, selfless and purposeful, remaining a person of deep integrity, despite being a victim of a job cut. And he does the only thing that will benefit him - he goes to college. The rest is a matter of time and devoted friends whom Lance "The Crown" will undoubtedly win in his new life.
And this whole story wouldn’t be history if Larry didn’t have a girl who could surprise him, attract him and charm him. Julia Roberts reminds me of a princess. And it's not a fabulous outfit that she doesn't need at all. Just her charm, light charm, innate sophistication make her so beautiful that there is not enough strength to resist the charm of her Miss Taino. I don't know how it came to Tom to invite Julia to his film, but it's a kind of luck that doesn't often come to directors. Therefore, a beautiful duet in which both halves need each other, sincerely admires the one who has not yet had time to worry about Larry.
A bit of style that always accompanies Hanks, a pinch of beautiful humor, the unobtrusive music of James Newton Howard - all this makes such a great company for Tom Hanks' new project that you are involuntarily surprised how this idea did not come to him sooner.

Director Tom Hanks wanted to convey to the viewer a simple truth, namely: It is never too late to start life anew.
Did the director accomplish the task? I'll say more "no" than "yes."
And most of me in this film surprised Julia Roberts. The actress who became famous for such masterpiece films as: "The Runaway Bride", "Pretty Woman", "Eat, Pray, Love", these pictures are simply full of sincere emotions, love. And it seemed to me that Julia puts her whole soul into every film, but...
Julia, playing the role of her heroine, looked, as it seemed to me, completely tired of her work. The actress perfectly copes with the role of desperate women who are struggling to believe in love, to answer the question, "what do I want from life", and "what to do next".
And it seems that the heroine (Mercedes) fits the description: a woman tired of her slacker husband, who teaches what she thinks is a stupid lecture in college, and the phrase “to relieve tension” is associated only with alcohol. But why didn’t you get it?
About the main character - there was a certain Larry Crown - a lonely, good-natured man who works in a large company, where, as it seemed to him, he was successfully walking along the career ladder, but suddenly Larry was fired, explaining that the man does not have a higher education. And as you know, trouble does not come alone and Larry faces a new problem - a mortgage. Where to find money to pay for housing and how to live on the hero of the film does not know.
But after a little thought, he decides to go to a local college to start life from scratch. And it was in this college that Larry was lucky and met two women who brightened up his future life. This is a student Thalia and his lecturer in oratory Mercedes .
Talia tries to stir up the Crown, picks up a new wardrobe for him, invites the hero to ride along with her company on scooters, in general, with the girl, the man finds the 2nd youth. Although my personal opinion is that the presence of Talia is somewhat unclear to me, to be honest at the beginning of the film, I suspected that Larry has more feelings for Talia than for the teacher herself.
Well, there was a spark between Mercedes and Larry, but I never caught the moment when it happened.
However, there were also very memorable scenes: for example, when Larry brought Mercedes home. The actress had a very expressive face in her helmet. And this phrase:
I'm not going to wear this on my head.
She also smiled when Talia realized that her tattoo actually meant soy sauce. For fun moments, finger up.
Well, the rest of the movie "Larry Crown" is 3 out of 5. Good luck with Tom Hanks making new movies.
The first feeling after watching is a government order that inspires people who have lost their jobs to keep up and move forward. Taking into account the crisis phenomena in the world economy, the film reveals a topical topic - self-learning and self-improvement. The main character Larry Crown, the same Forrest Gump - kind, responsive, open man '50s' of the last century. The dream of all women is a gentleman, a former military cook, behind whom one does not feel ' like behind a wide back'.
The film is easy, relaxed, pleasant to watch with the whole family.
When I heard the title of the film, it never occurred to me that Tom Hanks could be the actor playing the role of Larry Crown.
It’s also strange that when I took a glimpse of the 35 percent that the critically acclaimed film society gave me, I wondered if it was worth watching. Not much, I thought.
After watching, I wondered why the percentage was so low. I didn't find an answer. You can think more and more, but just because a movie has a low rating doesn’t always mean it’s a bad movie. Everyone evaluates differently and pays attention to different details. So I’m going to talk about the good things I have left after the movie.
The first thing I can say is the lightness of the film. No, not the ease that comes with stupid comedies, just because you laugh so much that you forget the meaning of the picture. This is not because the story is simple and easy.
Yes, the story of a man who got into a difficult situation after being fired from work is far from new, and contains that difficult period of life when a house of cards that collapses must be reassembled.
But how the situation is played out is surprising.
Here to help an elderly man who decided to go to college, help change the style of clothes and just support his new friends.
Friends themselves are younger than his at least 10 years, they ride something similar to bikes, the same ride and Crown, together they find what you can do after school.
It also inspires the desire to learn, change, make every effort to move forward the hero himself.
Who knows, he might as well have lost his future at the bottom of the bottle. But fortunately, that didn’t happen.
The film seems to send a message to the viewer: never give up, you need to move forward, no matter what. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we sometimes forget this rule and sometimes we need to watch such films to regain confidence that life is worth fighting for.
I recommend this film to those who think life has turned away from it and to those who love it in all its forms.
“Larry Crown” is an author’s melodrama with comedy elements from Tom Hanks. This film tells us about the rebirth of people who are united by lectures taught by Julia Roberts. Everything changes here, including our main characters – a great acting duet of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Larry Crown is a stupid and naive person, somewhat reminiscent of Forest Gump, in connection with his dismissal, he is forced to go to college. There, Larry meets his classmate, who radically changes Crown, starting with clothes and behavior to rearrange the furniture in the house in a festive way. With Larry Crown's change, the lecturer he attends is also changing. Mrs. Tainot is an ordinary woman who is going through a midlife crisis, a failed marriage and other problems faced by many people her age. Acquaintance with Crown at first did not impress her, but his behavior, manner of speech and some ungroundedness makes her look at many things differently and get away from everyday worries.
A lot of people will disagree with me, but I think the cast is very good. Hanks and Roberts create a harmonious duo, let not call them the most romantic couple.
This film is also not devoid of comedic moments, of course, if you take everything that is happening positively, and not wait for something serious. Tom Hanks, in the style of his Forest Gump, creates many ridiculous situations that make the viewer smile.
As a result, we have a positive melodrama that lifts the mood, despite its predictability.
8 out of 10
Larry Crown worked for a large company for many years, but he was suddenly fired. Despite the fact that his financial situation deteriorates sharply, Crown decides to pursue higher education. He tries to find himself again in communication with teachers and students. Well, the emotional peak of the film is his affair with his teacher - the heroine of Julia Roberts.
Tom Hanks plays a very inconclusive and lost man. But to be honest, I don’t like these characters.
“Accept reality, because you still can’t change anything, except your attitude to what is happening” – this is the message actually sent to the audience by the hero Hanks. To me, this is pure conformity. By the way, his hero is the same conformist with women.
By the way, in recent films, Tom Hanks as an actor is not convincing. I think that a few more films like “Crown” and even the most loyal fans will stop going to his films.
Despite the confident but mediocre acting of Hanks, and the conformism of his hero, and the fact that the film looks like a very pale shadow of Jerry Maguire, Larry Crown leaves a very good impression.
The film owes its “sightability” to two women: Nia Vardalos and Julia Roberts. Roberts was very convincing and Nia Vardalos wrote a very good script. She made a good movie, My Big Big Greek Wedding.
In the end: The movie turned out to be really touching, although politically correct: Hanks' best friend is Cedric Etertrainer, and Roberts' best friend is Pam Grier. I mean, no discrimination.
It was a bit sad to watch Pam Grier, the queen of blaxploitation, really aged and now in the full sense of the word - an elderly grandmother.
I would never have thought that a person can change a haircut, the name of which is “shorter”. A completely different person! Phenomenal.
For a good third of the movie, all I thought about was how bad old Tom looked. Sinned on anything, but to assume how easy it will be to open the box ... I wasn't close. Truly, the transformation at the level of the “Rogue” without even a hint of the circumstances of the series of force majeure. Bravo.
Perhaps this is the main impression of viewing. Given how much the change in the appearance of the main character fits into the general outline of the story, I am not afraid of this word, which determines.
The plot is simple, but in this case it is rather its advantage. Witty, vital, cute - the main characteristics. Not the slightest vulgarity on the one hand, not the most extreme tenderness on the other. My favorite balance. And a necessary condition when it comes to the romantic adventures of a guy “born in the fifties”, and in the yard – the XXI century.
D. Roberts, by the way, is in great shape - she doesn't even need a haircut along the way to prove it. I'm not sure about the whistling after, "be a shorter dress," but... More than that. As for G. Mbat-Row, I have nothing to add to the words of her on-screen boyfriend (also, incidentally, a good role): “All men fall in love with Talia.”
And all would be fine if not for one "but". The educational process in the United States. I am simply unable to grasp the mystery of this system, to grasp its essence. The so-called professorial lectures seem to be a seething stream of useless, unrelated, sometimes completely meaningless phrases and expressions. Whatever the topic. And the final performance of Larry Crown (rated so by five plus) is nothing more than another “The Story of the Puppy Who Got Lost” (see “Billy Madison”). How can you take seriously someone whose name is crazy? I don't understand. Is this really how it works?
Taking into account the “specific weight” of the epic of the study of the main character in college on the scale of the picture as a whole, I am forced to state: 3 points off. "In one fell swoop!" Total to issue:
