A series that is worth watching for both women and men. Don’t be fooled by the frivolous title and the frivolous poster for this drama. At first glance, the film promises to be simple and comedic, but in fact it raises very important and serious problems of modern society - the role of women, gender inequality, the place of women in the realities of the 21st century. In addition, the theme of patriarchal structure and traditional values is a red thread. And after watching it, I became even more convinced that these traditional values belong only in the mothball chests of village grandmothers, because the world has changed, life has changed, and women have changed. The image of the ideal woman of the past – quiet, silent, submissive, having no right to her own desires and not even thinking about her own happiness, dissolved in her husband and children – this image is a thing of the past. But as the series shows, not everyone likes it. And this process is creaking.
Women become new thanks to such heroines and rebels as the main characters of the film, girlfriends Kim Boo Ki and Lee Shi Yong. Through hardship, condemnation of society, spat on gossip and evil tongues, these bright, brave women live their lives, work hard and remain happy no matter what.
The scriptwriters worked on the script “excellent” – all the characters turned out to be memorable, with characters that are not template. And no matter what country the audience of the series live in, the stories told on the screen will be very recognizable, which makes the characters even closer to the viewer.
Even the topic of male violence against women is raised, when a beaten girl is afraid to go to the police, is afraid to testify, because “maybe I was guilty and provoked him by my behavior.”
On the screen, they talk about what almost everyone experienced - both with a plus sign and with a minus sign.
But all this is presented in a comedic, boring, funny way - and even touching, dramatic moments do not reduce the degree of fun reigning on the screen. If you do not laugh at the dramatic moments in your life, then you can go crazy - it is on this principle that plot twists and turns are built. Some situations are shown emphatically exaggerated, sometimes they are brought to the absurd, but this is perceived even better.
I felt like I spent 16 nights with my own girlfriends.
Bright, strong, beautiful and independent Kim Boo Ki Her life story is the science of all young girls who believe that they will be loved only if they are very, very good and will please everyone around, forgetting about themselves. The hyperbolized story of her love story, with episodes in the style of “Kill Bill” turned out to be very memorable.
Journalist Lee Shin Young is a cheerful, direct, hardworking and persistent girl. She dutifully tears down the studs from her colleagues, never resents the disgusting gender chauvinism of her mentor ("songbe) at work, but with the determination of a small tank moves to achieve her dream of becoming a popular journalist. But when her life comes not quite ordinary for the world of traditional values love, this fragile tank suddenly backs up and can not believe that love can be just such, not like the usual ideas. Rebeling against the dominance of stereotypes, she suddenly finds herself in their captivity - because she falls in love with the wrong candidate. I can’t believe the limits are all in her head. I really liked Lee Shin-yeon (actress Park Chin-hee), I am sure that she will be fine.
But here's the third girlfriend, the synchronistic interpreter Jung Da Jung is the type of girlfriend that is better to eliminate than to keep close. An empty-headed man is a problem who can bluster unflatteringly about his friends, just to look better in the eyes of men. Obsessed with the slogan "would be nice near." Honestly, I doubt a lady so stupid could be Korea's best interpreter, but things happen. The "happiness" she eventually finds is matched by her. This is a great example of God’s righteousness.
Adult lady San Mi. Bravo to the writers for this image. A woman who lived in misery for 24 years without knowing happiness, without knowing love. And when fate finally gives her a huge gift, Sang Mi begins to invent thousands of reasons not to accept this gift. She is so used to being unhappy that she is afraid to be happy. She's comfortable as a victim. She covers up her sacrifice with love for her son, not realizing that she is crushing a grown man with this love like a boa constrictor. A perfect example of how a woman transfers unrealized love for a man to her own son. But even this controversial person, I wanted happiness all the way through the film.
In the film a lot of comic and recognizable episodes. For example, a man gave the wrong gift - who is he, a knave or an insidious type? In general, men will be interested to see such a common moment in women's life: if girlfriends discuss the motivation of a particular male act, then they will eventually think of something that the poor guy did not think about.
Unexpectedly for Korean cinema, but male characters pale in the background of such vivid female images. Especially, Doctor Fool and Pilot-Ni-Fish-Ni-Meat.
But it turned out quite chic young musician Ha Min Jae (Kim Bohm). I look at the filmography of this actor in the opposite direction, that is, from adult roles to early ones. And here in this series finally appeared the features that are in the films of 2015 and 2016 – character, strength, the ability to one look to express a whole range of emotions, instant transitions from a pretty teenager to a suffering adult. If in the first series he is just a brazen beginner pickupper, accustomed to the attention of girls, then in the middle of the film, as the real feeling awakens, he becomes a deep and interesting young man.
Resume: I suddenly enjoyed watching. Thank you to the Korean filmmaker for the frivolous story about the serious and important.
