Traditional Western story about a rich landowner, by any means trying to get the surrounding land. The main character Parrish initially tries to stay away, but after the murders of the sheriff and his employee, stands up for himself and his land.
It's a pretty strong western in the classic style. The plot, of course, is simple and the action develops without much surprise. But the film can boast quite a powerful actor.
The main party is confidently led by Glenn Ford. The textured and stately actor looked great in classic westerns and noirs. As landowner Lou Wilkerson, Hollywood veteran Edward Robinson. But in the foreground is played by older Barbara Stanwyck as his wife Martha. The actress is not the first to play cold and powerful ladies. She and her brother Lou Cole, played by Brian Keith, with whom she cheats on her husband, and unleash a real war with Parrish and his people.
Quite a good western for fans of the classic genre. He is best known for the Ford-Stanwick-Robinson trio.
