A remake of the 'failed remake'?! Is that possible?! Apparently, yes! After the death of Marilyn Monroe, production of Something Must Happen was discontinued. But then they decided to reshoot the film. The new film is called “I’m Back, Dear.” However, it was not possible to assemble the old team.
George Cukor at that time shot the main film of the late period of his career - musical "My Fair Lady", which passed with triumph around the world in 1964-1965. And so he wasn't up to the project anymore.
Dean Martin has always said, ‘No Monroe, no movie,’ so his reaction to working with Doris was quite expected. Sid Charisse did not invite again, considering inappropriate for the role of second wife.
The plot of the film has not changed, although some moments in the film have changed. For example, the scene of naked bathing disappeared from the film, which, and, not surprisingly, the new starring performer Doris Day immediately made it clear that such things should not even dream of with her.
But the film has lost nothing. The actors in the film are great. Doris Day plays her role brightly, easily and effortlessly - the nomination for the Golden Globes (fifth in her career) as the best comedy actress is absolutely deserved.
James Garner makes a wonderful pair for the second time with Doris Day. The actors did a great job together, I have to admit. Polly Bergen perfectly played the second wife of the main character - she is incredibly disgusting in this role, as possible. Now I understand why Sid Charisse was not invited to the role, otherwise the roles in the film could be changed.
The musical accompaniment to the film is also successful - I especially want to highlight the song in honor of which the film is named - 'Move Over, Darling' performed by Doris Day.
In general, it turned out to be a very funny comedy. Funny situations are well thought out - especially the moment where the heroine Doris drives through the car wash and the car is washed and polished with Doris sitting in it!
In short, if you want to cheer yourself up, then this film will help you perfectly! Thank you very much.
