The Irony of Action and Destroying Everyone by Janet McTeer The grievous genre of comedy action movie... To this day, Jackie Chan pulls him on his shoulders without losing his skill. True, it happens that films in this genre still somehow attract the audience, although for the most part they attract due to the actor’s ensemble (as it was, for example, in the RED dilogy). But even more grievous comedy action films become when they are filmed in the spirit of low-budget movies that want to jump over their heads. The main part of the audience and even more critics attributed such a comedy action movie “Everybody Needs Cat” to the category of completely unsuccessful films of the genre, not finding anything in it that could be as fashionable now to express itself “to hook”. Young actors, a director who misses stars from the sky, screenwriters who debuted in cinema. In general, bet only on the fact that suddenly one of them will shoot. But, as already mentioned, few people called “Everybody Needs Cat” at least a good movie.
And these people are basically right. A shackled plot where the lines of the mafia controlling prostitution intertwined, the special services with their special agents with the skills of soulless killers, two amateurs who engaged in a private investigation and intervened in this situation and it is generally strange that they did not die at the very beginning, and, finally, the girl around whom this whole story began. This is a cartoon script with a bunch of everything and few places brought to the end, not to mention perfection. "Everybody Needs Cat" - the film really looks naive, sometimes stupid, but at the same time, I personally am not in the spirit to criticize him especially, because he fell into the mood and under a relaxed state of mind did not load the brain at all, but in a couple of moments he was able to laugh, and in several scenes even took the breath of a natural such action in the style of hand-to-hand fights of the best fighters from Mortal Kombat. And even the obvious failures in the detective plot of the film somehow did not disappoint.
Fortunately, the director John Stockwell (in this role he is better known as the director of the slasher "Touristas", and as a screenwriter - the brutal musical drama "Rock Star") and the cameraman Jean-François Hensgens (was engaged in the shooting of the second part of the "13th district") had the strength and desire to turn his picture into an endless stream of heterogeneous fragments that do not decay in the form of a mosaic, but form a single whole canva, and the rejection of the tape depends only on the frivolence of all this effectiveness. Again, interest in a film can only be awakened when it is in the mood with its fountain, otherwise any viewer who is prepared to watch something visually spectacular will be immediately disappointed, and subsequently angry, which will result in negative criticism of the film. I mean, when I didn't expect anything so much, it was even fun to watch all the ups and downs of Everybody Needs Cat, where there's more cocksucker than seriousness. Although there was one tensing nuance - the film on which the film was shot, as if it had been borrowed from television, so it convexly showed what was happening.
Of the actors, Scott Mechlowitz first noticed himself, who was remembered for the comedy Eurotour, and then disappeared from the big movie. I wanted to see that he was still able to reach his potential, but to be honest, he did not destroy the course of the tape, but compared to his colleagues he played quite sluggishly, as if he believed that only his cute face would be enough. Not enough, Mr. Mechlowitz! But his plot partner Alfonso McAuley really managed to laugh just in those moments of the film. He did it casually, as Chris Tucker does. He is a small actor, but since he managed to cause laughter, then thank you for that. Wanted, tried, failed, what else to demand? Pas Vega still did not fully understand her character: she is either a dramatic heroine, or should be a little stupid and naive, that’s how her personality in the film was at a crossroads. How did you get Janet McTeer to play? Here's the main star of the movie, here's the game, here's the action and thrash! Yes Helen Mirren in the already mentioned "RED" she is not fit for sweeps. If you're going to watch "Everybody Needs Cat," then take a closer look at this actress.
Yes, not the top of the genre, yes, the film is sometimes stupid and naive, yes, not all the actors were pleased, yes, the script looks more like a cocktail of seemingly inappropriate ingredients, but try to relax and then, perhaps, “Everybody Needs Cat” will not seem so bland film.

P.S. One of the prostitutes screenwriters of the film called Grushenko. A beautiful name, but long forgotten. Apparently, the creators used the novel by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky “The Brothers Karamazov”.
