paranoia Listen, madam, how long have you been married?
What if we mix the subject of adultery and betrayal with memories of childhood trauma, the fear that parental insanity is inherited? What if we add a selfish motive? Sounds good, but not enough. Then we improve the structure of the film. Would it be better to go to the traditional finale and see how the events develop?
This is exactly what the filmmakers did. In accordance with the style of Hitchcock, they divided the film into two halves, where the middle was quite similar to the finale. It seems that the wife goes crazy, led by the experiences of childhood, and from another angle is a cruel intrigue of her husband. But in this matter everything is clear already in the middle of the tape. And here everything seems to be played again, only now with a few other actors. That's the turn in Psycho. It turns out that where the story should have ended, it just started. This allowed to create confusion, break stereotypes and make an unexpected plot twist. Given the smooth, sustained staging style of the picture looks a few orders of magnitude more elegant. And now, after many decades, we still need to think about what is more spectacular: the cult “Gas Light” or this modest and paranoid creation of the studio “Hummer”.
The case when the simplest movie looks more expensive and interesting only due to structural changes in the structure.
