Dark and dark night at the deserted crossing of the railway. The second part about Teketeke came out in the same year as the first. It is hardly possible to find a director who, having made a successful film, refuses the opportunity to release its sequel. Koji Shiraishi both before and after Tsok-Tsok, produced horror films, but it was the stories about the vengeful yokai that he came out especially good.
This is a direct continuation of the previous film with the same characters and new storylines. That Teketeke was dangerous and adamant, the audience had already found out, and now demanded new bread and spectacles. The director took these desires into account and went further, issuing specifically for fans of the genre that drives us into excitement - an alliance with the monster, which enters the girl Reiko. Again, as in the case of the first part, the plot does not differ in sophisticated design, but the atmosphere of anxiety is conveyed magnificently. Again tapping sounds imprinted in the subconscious, like a frightening rustle in the dark night forest, and again hopeless attempts to escape. The focus this time is not on fear, but on the killings themselves. The sounds of tearing flesh and the face of Teketeke, which can be better viewed here, is exactly the spectacle we have been waiting for.
Added in the sequel and elements of the detective. To draw parallels with the Hollywood horror scene a decade later, Koji Shiraisi is to be commended because he really tried to give us all the answers to both movies. Within reasonable limits, of course. Together with Natsuki and her companion, we find out exactly what happened to the unfortunate woman sixty years ago, and what she is guided by in choosing victims. Is it not a mistake to say that the enemy of my enemy is my friend? In any case, the film is not devoid of its morality - do not harm others, otherwise you will pay dearly for it.
The composition of the young actresses made a positive, if not charming, impression on me. I genuinely sympathized with Miu Nakamura’s heroine while watching, and hoped she would get her own. And the finale shook me and made me happy! Plays well and Sayuri Iwata, and this time Shinmei Tsuji a little disappointed - the whole film looks too confused, but - good - it does not spoil impressions.
The second part remains the same horror story on the big screen as the first, but glad that the director was able to stop in time – despite the fact that such stories have no end, it hardly makes sense to release the third part. I liked the second chapter of Teketek even more than the first. I boldly put it in the list of exemplary j-horrors and recommend it to all connoisseurs of Asian horror films.
