What about Mr. Sardonicus? Mr. Sardonicus is a very original film from the master of the genre William Castle. The movie surprised you. The fantasy of the writer and director can only be envied. It would seem that films with such a plot are a pond, nothing new and original can be invented. But here we go! And this man's name is William Castle.
From all sorts of clichés and cliches that many directors of the time used, Castle made his own original picture, unlike anything else. Like you did! Great, masterful and original.
It would seem a fairly simple plot, the doctor comes to a remote estate to provide medical care to a certain Sardonikus. But ... here everything is much more interesting and richer. The face of Sardonicus is hidden under a mask, and under it... And what under it, you will know if you watch this stylish and thoughtful in the script film. When I saw it, I was happy to see it.
The picture is black – white, it only benefits from this, the director puts before us a number of riddles that are not easy to solve. The film left only the most pleasant impressions. The narrative is easy and easy, watching the development of events is very interesting throughout the picture.
I think this horror of the time is one of the most original and interesting. Suspense, atmosphere of fear, thoughtful actions of the characters, sinister mystery and much more here in abundance.
There can be no complaints about the actors at all. For me, they all played their roles at the highest level. Oscar Homolka is a faithful servant of our Sardonicus is magnificent, his type, manners and appearance are always recognizable. Very cool actor. I saw him for the first time in Hitchcock Sabotage. Ronald Lewis as the attending physician is inimitable and unprincipled. Guy Rolfe as a baron is the right thing, his appearance and manners are perfect for a negative character. A brilliant selection of actors.
As a result, it turned out to be a great film with competent directing and workshop and verified acting. Excellent sight by William Castle. To all fans of black and white paintings, with a bias in Gothic and horror, my recommendations.
