Rainforest The gloomy and eerie atmosphere of the narrative, of course, gave the necessary color to the picture, and I, as a spectator, kept in a certain stupor and in constant discomfort. The theme of the film is very intriguing, and if it was successfully disclosed by director Makoto Tanaka, it could turn out to be a strong Asian film horror. But it didn’t go so well.
First of all, I didn’t like the way the story was told and the main story was revealed. The beginning of the picture set a very favorable background and it was really scary and frightening. However, with the disclosure of the plot, some scenes cause obvious boredom, and the timing of the tape barely exceeds an hour and a half. Also, at times, I was literally thrown into a stupor from the openly ridiculous actions of the main character. I do not want to go into details, and reveal spoilers, but these moments are literally thrown when watching, any attentive viewer. And the story itself, with the disappearance of these students, does not receive a clear continuation and proper disclosure. The final twist, about the secret of the main character, did not receive an enthusiastic response from me personally.
The acting game does not cause any complaints. Each of them coped with the task perfectly. Operating work was also at the highest level. I note that this horror film takes, first of all, not by screamers, but by competent and smooth injection of the atmosphere. This is an undeniable plus.
Based on all this, previous reviewers compared “Rain City” with such films as “The Curse” and “One Missed Call”, I join their opinion, and also recommend to familiarize yourself with the Asian “Point R” and the magnificent Russian creation of director Albert Mkrtchyan “Touch”.
