For a very long time I ignored the hype around this cartoon. By chance I was able to watch several series in different ways. The impressions were dubious. On the one hand not bad, on the other not so good that he was worthy of such a cult, and from only two seasons of twenty episodes in each. It’s very unusual to have mastodons like South Park, The Simpsons and The Griffins. However, there are still so many conversations around the work, which did not have time to begin, but has already ended. And all because the cartoon, extremely long aftertaste, which every time persuades fans to review it.
Well, it's time to purposefully sit down and get acquainted with the phenomenon of Gravity Falls.
At first, after the start of viewing, I did not feel any strong desire to watch the next episode, but as soon as I started, I stopped noticing the time - it was interesting. The series ended and I didn’t have much desire to watch it again. But the goal was set! I started the next series and everything went on. Isn't that weird?
All because the initial concept of the cartoon consisted of such fascinating moments as funny animation, voice acting and painfully familiar modern human life, presented in an extremely comical form. All this was in a well-balanced form, which allowed to be interesting for both children and young people. Possession of such a scripting skill is very good, but it can not be abused for long. That’s why when I see it, I’m skeptical, even though I like it. 'Well, funny, nice, fun, then what? . .'
But when the “further” began, that’s when I became interested. The plot of the cartoon was not vertical, as I previously thought, but vertical-horizontal. The authors of the series were able to correctly develop the structure of the script. Vertical storylines in the cartoon serve as a disclosure of the declared world, and the horizontal plot very succinctly unites everything into a single common story. In other words, everything that was once stated in the series, to some extent, will play a role. Nice to see you!
In general, this concept of combining linear and nonlinear plot is the standard of many series, but oddly enough, not everyone knows how to use it competently. For its correct implementation, there are two, at first glance, simple conditions. They are exactly the same as in all films - it is competent to start and just as competently, but most importantly, especially for TV series, to finish on time. The creators of Gravity Falls were able to do it perfectly and that is why the audience is reviewing their work. Where better to escape from reality, if not in a pleasant world for you, especially when it is finished and short-lived, right?
I’m not going to say that I, like many people, will be watching this series. This is not my genre, but I can say with confidence that I understand its popularity. I had a great summer with the heroes, despite the fact that at the moment it is winter outside my window.

I believe that content behind a particular author always wins over content produced by an impersonal industry. A film, music or series, if produced from beginning to end by a particular person or several people, has an additional (or rather even basic) content layer.
Gravity Falls is a project by Alex Hirsch. Impressions are formulated absolutely: I can safely say that this is the best series (but I so boldly claim about several series).
The series is not new, people who are knowledgeable in video content have laid it out on shelves and poured it all over the place, I can hardly formulate something similar.
Of course, this is a very cool postmodern cartoon, where gnomes and curtseys to the Back to the Future franchise, unicorns and winks to the X-Files, UFOs and the breath of Twin Peaks organically coexist. There were probably many references to some American legends and cultural phenomena that I didn’t even understand.
The structure of the series is mostly vertical: each series has a separate plot, but there is a cross-cutting story. Therefore, on the way to solving the main mystery, the cartoon talks about masculinity, love, relationships, broken hearts and even their acceptance, about guilt associated with resentment, carried through life, about pride, about fatherlessness, and about why bosses should sometimes be scoundrels.
And, Christmas trees, this cartoon is just very exciting and hilarious to watch.
But in Gravity Falls, it's secondary, but it's different. Alex Hirsch wrote off heroes from himself, his twin sister, grandfather and the people around them in childhood. Restoring his childhood memories, supplementing them with adult fantasy, the author breathed an exorbitant amount of love into the cartoon. Dipper, Mabel, Uncle Stan, Soos (a diamond, not a character), although this is directly and not spoken, endlessly and selflessly love each other, albeit sometimes clumsy. Alex Hirsch loves them all and his childhood. Loves in the purest and warmest sense.
Gravity Falls is not a town at all, but, having taken the form of a town and compressed into three plot months, childhood as such. Therefore, there is a place for dinosaurs, mermaids, dwarfs, low-poly heroes from computer games, boy bands, chips to nausea, love, the first fights and courage. There is fun, naive, sometimes dramatic, but ultimately cloudless. Well, there is concentrated warmth and love from the previous paragraph.
Gravity Falls is a short cartoon, watching it is fascinating and soulful. But the summer will come to an end, the children, celebrating their birthday, will become teenagers and leave the town for their teenage affairs in the hope of returning once again. They are sure to remember the past summer forever, considering the album with memories. A different viewer, I am sure, on the last series will catch himself thinking “How sorry that this is over.” It's the same with childhood, isn't it?
Revisited Season 1 Episode 1 in the original language with English subtitles The Russians did not work with their English tutor. After all, what a great animated series, and this is only the first episode! A very cute animated series about the adventures of two twins in the strange town of Gravity Falls. I think there are no people who have not seen at least one episode of this series, but if you still haven’t seen it, then run to watch. My assessment of both the first series and the entire series is 10 out of 10.
If you’ve ever driven through the Pacific Northwest, you’ve probably seen a bumper sticker called “Gravity Falls.” This place is not on the maps and most people have never heard of it. Some people think it's a myth. But if
For modern animated series I have mixed feelings - I watch them not as actively as new cartoons or regular TV series. But if I find one I like, I look at it to the holes and memorize it by heart. Some time ago, my brother recommended that I see Gravity Falls. Not immediately, but soon after, I went to read about him. Still takes first place in the lists of TV series according to Kinopoisk, so I started watching - not a minute regretted!
The main characters are twins 12 years old Dipper and Mabel Pines, whom their parents send to visit their eccentric cousin Stan in a small town somewhere in the wilderness called Gravity Falls for the whole summer. In an attempt to find something to do, the twins discover a diary hidden in the forest with a six-fingered handprint and the number 3, which describes various mystical creatures that the mysterious diary author met in Gravity Falls. Dipper is especially fond of all this mysticism, and throughout the summer he, in the company of Mabel, a good-natured simpleton and craftsman Soos, a teenage girl Wendy and, periodically, Stan’s uncle, reveals many secrets that Gravity Falls hides.
The first thing that attracted me to Gravity Falls was the amazingly beautiful animation. Not only is it a drawn two-dimensional animation, but how cute and charming are the characters. In the era of three-dimensional cartoons, I especially appreciate such wonderful projects, which one temporarily look modern, and give to the traditions of animation.
Second, it's a genre. After all, fantasy and science fiction are probably my favorite genres in cinema. Therefore, movies/animated films/series/animated series and any other projects where the characters discover something unusual to the real world, get into places filled with magic, mysticism and other mysterious things - such films I am ready to watch immediately. And Gravity Falls is full of mysticism! Heroes every day discover a new monster, a new underground passage, a new abandoned building, or even something that is in plain sight, but no one has noticed it before. For example, hordes of dwarves looking for a princess who would marry everyone at once, or ghosts living in an abandoned store, or caves in which dinosaurs froze. Everything mystical undoubtedly attracts any viewer that you can’t wait to see what new monster the twins will discover in the next series! In addition, it is a reminder to all of us about childhood - many more than once went to grandparents in the village, invented various games and imagined something mysterious and mystical. . .
There are also many references in the series. In principle, it is obvious that the creators focused on the cult mystical series Twin Peaks (I still haven’t mastered it). But it seemed to me that he very much echoes Guillermo del Toro’s series “Troll Hunters”, where literally around every corner and in every shadow there are some monsters, curious and courageous teenagers are hunting for them, and everything happens against the background of a great struggle between good and evil.
Heroes conquer us instantly: Dipper Pines, who found the diary of an unknown author, in which many supernatural beings who live in Gravity Falls are described, and despite his young age, the lack of great physical strength, Dipper bravely and fearlessly goes in search of adventures, during which he will find even more friends with his sister, will find love and prove to everyone what he is worth; Mabel Pines is an optimistic twin sister, who is always filled with money, who does not want to catch up with his own money, but he does not likes all the girl, who is ready to go for the sake of his owning everything in love. Many secondary characters were also very memorable - sweet baby Gideon, who is an insidious fraudster, a gloomy emo Robby, who fights for the attention of Wendy with Dipper, arrogant and rich Pacifica Northwest, a local madman Old McGucket, a nervous time traveler Blandin; and finally, the main antagonist of the series Bill Shifr speech - a demon and a merry one who does not even want to make a measurement of the three, but a merry one, if he does not want to make it with a merry one. And separately note the dubbing of one of the most famous voices of the Russian voiceover - Mikhail Tikhonov, whose voice is spoken by many cartoon characters!
Gravity Falls is an amazing, fantastic and exciting animated series that will undoubtedly appeal to both children and adults. Glad I discovered it for myself. I think we'll hear about it again!
Bye, Mabel world... your summer is over... and we have a good summer ahead of us.
The second season is a bit boring, especially in the second half. The thing is that the plot is coming to an end, so there are many things that you will not include in it (really new), you need to explain a lot of things, include a secret hero (or even more than one), tell his backstory... Therefore, purely childishness is less and less, although there is still a unicorn(s).
Here last season was more fun, distracted from the main branch of the plot and riddles (what is the final with the "Stargate", to which we descended the whole season in fact). This one looks more like Rick and Morty in many ways. Here even its apocalypse comes and increasingly there is a triangle familiar to us, reminiscent of the famous Masonic symbol, which is believed to be on the dollar.
Although our season has something like a loving spider lure, a real pick with an eagle... something purely childish, magical, as well as loving. There is something unusual... in screen time or in the credits you can see something like a real shooting, that is, not drawn, but real. Funny, unusual for this kind of project. Plus, change in the rhythm of the narrative and introductory titles.
Both seasons were reviewed in the original voiceover on the smartphone. Only the end now I look in dubbing, along the way a line of review. The original voices seem funnier. It's all about taste.

The series combines something dark and sinister with the good and beautiful, but mixing it all does not come out dull and ordinary grayness, rather an adventure rainbow of life.
Reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram. Buy the gold! Bye!
Gravity Falls! I hardly need to tell you why this animated series is so cool and even became a cult. A great story about twins in the mysterious city of Gravity Falls, the adventures of which we not only watched - but were a full part of them. Alex Hirsch and his team have created a unique story that resonates in the hearts of millions.
In the last days of the summer, I decided to revisit this masterpiece. I haven’t done this for a long time and I thought now was the best time to find it. This will not be a review, but a story about my impressions that live many years after the end of this animated series. Let's go!
Getting to know the Gravity Falls was accidental, but it happened well before Season 2 Episode 12 and maybe even before 11. I was lucky and I got into the center of the investigation of what was happening in the animated series. It was really cool to watch it, read the theories and think for yourself. I remember these days with nostalgia.
He was amazingly at the heart of my interests and I plunged into him headlong. Looking at unknown creatures invented by the authors, as well as taken from our real world, as the main characters interact with them gives only one pleasure. I like to fantasize about these topics even now, but here they come to life.
Dwarves, UFOs, ghosts, zombies and many others. Various references and clichés, such as a crazy, at first sight, old man who turns out to have his secrets. What if your uncle has the same secret? The animated series, unlike real life, gives it all to embody and it is all very competently intertwined with each other. The authors did a great job with the material.
What was the emotion of watching Season 2 episodes 11 and 12, not to mention the finale? They give me goosebumps even now and I’m sure they will continue to do so. By the way, good is not only the series that move the main story, but also those that tell others – small completed stories. But it's not just fillers! One way or another, they tell more about the world and characters, thereby deepening and developing them.
By the way, according to my observations, there is an interesting situation here. The first season was undoubtedly good, but the second one is getting even better. He's getting older, riskier and more reckless. Not surprisingly (although he is still surprised, hah), given what is happening in him. I mean, we have a good sequel situation, if that applies to the seasons of one show. The plot, characters and the world of the series does not sag, but only acquires scale and depth, without losing quality and thereby attracting all attention.
In general, it is worth noting the excellent writing of the series and its high quality. The depth and elaboration of the plot and characters, as well as their details, logic and interaction over time. This applies not only to the main masterfully twisted plot (Alex Hirsch even threw fakes to confuse viewers), but also small stories. Almost every series has at least a minimal connection with subsequent ones, even if it will be something flashed in the background, but it is and plays on the integrity of the narrative in a positive way.
The animated series is also multifaceted, raising many topics, such as the themes of friends and loved ones in general, as well as adventure, fun, solving mysteries, first love, disappointment and overcoming adversity and failure. The main topics here are family and growing up. He teaches you to look at different situations from different angles and shows that not everything is so clear. It teaches understanding and forgiveness.
The main characters are also beautifully written here. Each of them provides a certain archetype in one way or another, but each has its own drama – a mystery, if you will – but sooner or later the hero shows himself on the other side. This is very cool and blurs the clear boundaries of character behavior, which also deepens them, improves quality. It is easier for the viewer to associate himself with them.
The series somehow miraculously managed to interest not only children and teenagers (although this fact is worth a lot), but also adults - it is almost priceless.
It was great to see this adventure and be a part of it. Watch as Dipper and Mabel with each episode learn more about Gravity Falls, solve mysteries, overcome various obstacles. How they help Wendy, Soos, Stan, as well as various other characters like Mabel’s girlfriends or Old Man McGucket.
Getting emotional and getting goose bumps from the moments when Mabel says she trusts Stan, when a diary writer appears from the portal and how the Stans interact with each other. Look at Bill's return, the joint confrontation with him and the universal epic at the end with a dramatic but happy ending. That was really cool!
I decided to write this to express my love for this series, which I have seen countless times and will watch as many more. Its elaboration, recklessness, intelligence and mystery gives a beautiful adventure, which you want to return to time and again. I haven’t seen a lot of shows, but for me it’s the best. Perhaps even from the ever created, but everyone has already decided for himself. In any case, it was interesting to come back as adults and look at some moments from a different angle.
Every story has an end, because that’s part of the journey. Gravity Falls ended on a high note, which is good. I think there are many more stories to tell, but this chapter is definitely over. But anything can happen and who knows, maybe someday we will see the familiar screensaver again, accompanied by the same familiar, already dear and close to the heart melody. The truth is somewhere in Gravity Falls, deep in the woods, all you have to do is find it. Thank you for reading it, especially a nice look and...
See you next summer!
Gravity Falls is a paradoxical series. Although it is designed for children, most adults will also like it.
The cartoon itself tells its viewer about the process of growing up. Through funny stories with a share of mysticism, we are shown stories of first love, acceptance of responsibility, friendship and betrayal. For adults, all this causes a pleasant feeling of nostalgia for carefree times, when the whole world around you seemed to be one big fairy tale. Children easily recognize themselves in what is happening and quickly become attached to the main characters.
It is worth saying that the heroes here are far from faceless. Everyone from Dipper and Mabel to Schmebulock has unique traits that are easily remembered. The character of the main characters changes with the course of the cartoon. Passing through trials, the heroes grow above themselves and begin to look at the world differently.
Separately, it should be said that the cartoon is full of great humor. It is served unobtrusively, does not cross borders and sometimes contains a “double bottom” that will be understood only by an adult audience.
Basically, we choose movies and TV series for viewing on several points: they were either recommended by others, or attracted a high rating and excitement around the work, or were interested in the description / trailer / excerpt. In the case of Gravity Falls, I had the second option. Seeing the rating tending to infinity, but at the same time seeing a poster with ugly painted characters, I wondered: “What was found in this series?” A lot of people talked about the twisted and intriguing plot, cranky moments and jokes “16+”. So I decided to watch the first season.
In terms of the plot was not as exciting as many called it. I expected to see a mysterious, dark and mystical atmosphere, and a plot full of interesting mysteries and twists. But all this is given about 20% of the timekeeping of the season. The rest is occupied by "filler" plots that are not particularly related to each other and do not affect anything. And they were not particularly interesting in themselves. Helping a mermaid to get out of the pool into the river, raising “masculinity” in the circle of minotaurs, a fight with a fighter from a slot machine... It was all childish. They had no atmosphere, no tension, no intrigue. Plus in some places the cartoon was frankly stupid and absurd (what is the series about the president).
Quite often (as I noticed) an animation project is popular due to an interesting concept and memorable design (as in the same "Avatar" and "Naruto"). But I don't see any of that here. The idea of a small town where strange things happen is not particularly new, even in 2012. The Gravity Falls setting doesn’t stand out either. It's pretty monotonous and boring. The authors clearly lacked imagination. There is no “chip” that hooked and would cause a desire to be in this world.
In terms of drawing and pictures, I can not say anything good either. The series does not deliver the slightest visual pleasure. Primitive style of characters with poorly drawn backs. The series was released in 2012, in the same year the animated series “The Legend of Korra” and the anime series “Masters of the Sword Online” began. And just compare the drawing and the graphics. Heaven and earth.
The soundtrack is pretty boring, too. The melody from the intro is quite good, but all the rest of the music passed by.
Am I saying it's all bad and the series has no right to exist? Of course it does. As an ordinary average, of course, but the score is 9.0 and 2nd place among the best series on Kinopoisk? Please.
Of course, there are pluses in the series. First of all, these are well-written characters. They have clear characters and follow these characteristics throughout season 1. I especially liked Uncle Stan. This is a really bright and charismatic character who diluted mediocrity on the screen with his jokes. Plus, many episodes give correct and unobtrusive moral messages about what friendship, loyalty, courage, the importance of being yourself despite the criticism of others. Also in some places the animated series was still funny and caused a smile.
In general, my verdict is that the series is normal, but people over 12 without nostalgia have nothing to look at. This is an ordinary children's adventure cartoon, the likes of which I once watched a bunch on TV (and then, some had much more interesting ideas, and drawing is better). Only if many have sunk into oblivion and are not discussed now, then “Gravity Falls” 10 years after its release for some reason is still very popular and is observed among adults (!) people.

Maybe it's just not mine. But I’d rather watch Avatar again than this (or the entire Naruto series, hah).
A fascinating story that is imbued with summer, childhood and nostalgia
Well, let's start with the fact that Gravity Falls was released in 2012. I first saw him at the age of about 14-15 years, and from the very first series I fell in love with this animated series. I remember even deliberately delaying watching the last series, afraid to say goodbye to this story. And once again reviewing, I always experience pleasant feelings of a magical childhood.
This animated series will take you into the intriguing summer adventures of the twins, Dipper and Mabel, their cousin Stan, assistants Soos and Wendy, as well as other residents of the town of Gravity Falls.
A bit about the plot. Personally, I like that there’s a thread in the series that ties the whole story together, but also shows other small adventures or situations that the characters get into. It all looks so harmonious here. There is humor, moments even black / adult, and very important moments that talk about the frailty of life, values, family and loved ones, about the feelings of other people.
For me, both seasons came out very well, maybe the first half of the second season you may get bored or even tired, but the ending will absorb you completely. How can you not cry or even cry, watching the latest series?
Of course, there are shortcomings and still tormenting me questions on the plot, for example, with the zodiac (spoiler: which was at all and not really needed), but all these disadvantages pale in comparison with the merits. And of course, as a person who has had enough for 20 years, I have a special love for this 2D animation, immediately smells of childhood and Disney.
Gravity Falls is a stunning summer attraction that is imbued with warm feelings of nostalgia and childhood. But know that if you have not had time to get acquainted with this fascinating story, and if you are curious, do not wait, find it and watch it! He's out there, in the midst of mystery and adventure, waiting for you.
This film carries a plot, but not a big one and it is not emphasized. In negative reviews write about the plot, heroes and humor, and so on, even without watching the cartoon in full. I'll tell you what I think. In this film, the plot is not so much important as the events taking place in the series. Various situations, problems, the elimination of which the main characters approach more and more often from an unusual, interesting side. Dipper and Mabel solve puzzles for a couple and deal with trouble. And the storyline comes as an interesting addition, as a variety, a logical chain and another mystery. This movie will never get old, as it will never stop watching children, teenagers and even adults. As they say, children will parody the main characters. The film has a 12+ limit. At this age, a person is slowly beginning to understand everything that is happening. Each parent explains to their child the rules of behavior on the street, in the company and in other places. By the age of 12, your child will know what to do and what not to do. The impact on children is only positive. The main and secondary characters are made in their own individual way, with some character trait. The scattering of personalities, opposite characters, it's interesting to look at. The animation is done in moderation, the eyes do not “leak out”, and the characters are interestingly drawn. I have nothing against anime, but, personally for me, it is really impossible to watch.
The result of all this: the storyline is present as an addition to the main, unrelated events, there is no negative impact on children here, the animation is made very correctly, without overlights and bright elements, the main characters are quite competently endowed with characters, which is also very pleasant to look at.
For the torment, for the death - I know - It doesn't matter: I accept you!
A quiet town that is not on the maps, summer holidays before high school, strange finds, mystical insights and hot summer nights, and most importantly - twins - are almost teenagers! - Mabel and Dipper Pines (judging by their surname - part of the picturesque forest bordering the city). "Diana, 11:30 a.m., February 24..." -- yes, roughly in this series, Twin Peaks and Gravity Falls are close even geographically -- the American Northwest, which is as subtle as the protagonists' surname is indicated by the generic name of the city's richest and most influential family. In our bleached post-truth era, the features that Alex Hirsch’s series possesses on the plot and thematic levels, foretell him the path of ironic deconstruction of stories about quiet towns (read – swamps) in the American backwoods, and from there – thanks to the serial form – a walk throughout North American culture with stamps such as boy bands, slot machines from the eighties, Halloween vigils greedy children. That’s right, in “Gravity Falls”, of course, there is this, but through a series of cliches and sometimes, for the sake of justice, not too witty monsters, the viewer of any age breaks through the finely recorded real experiences of “almost adolescents”, before which the magical (only not in the classical Gravity-Folzian sense) and disarmingly illogical adult life begins to open – and through this opening of the mystery of growing up, a full-fledged ode to the departing childhood looks at us. But everything in order.
The chronotope of the series is one summer, when a brother and sister of twelve years come to Gravity Falls on vacation to Uncle Stan. However, to call this time interval one summer can be appropriate anywhere, except for the magical town where the twins spend time. In Gravity Falls, as in Russia, chronos dissolves in the topos, and time is essentially nominal (what else to expect from the border between the worlds, but let’s not talk about it). Time here matters in another context — it flows and dissolves in itself, not for the city, but for, as soon as it turns out, its main inhabitants — the Pines twins. Its main intonation advantages "Gravity Falls" opens before the audience older, probably at least fifteen years, that is, for the age when a person begins to be at least superficially aware of time and its irrevocability and when in memory crystallized segments that begin to miss.
Due to the clear time interval of the series, we literally “get along” with the characters (and each is self-valued and extremely original, even if organized according to classical principles and is only an archetype in the proposed circumstances, such as Dipper himself). Cute and charming characters represent a significant share of the success and the same charm of the whole series - none of them, of course, could exist in the real world, so it is so nice to spend time with them. But the secret of the incredible fan love for the series is a little different.
Gravity Falls, being a postmodern work, still uses the main tool of pop culture - romanticizes reality, and dissects such common and at the same time valuable images - summer at relatives far from home, first love and first relationships in the same place that lead to nothing, as well as hanging out and stupid fun with friends during the longest vacation of the year - which is breathtaking, probably, for everyone who remembers his childhood. That’s why we become so attached to Gravity Falls – it gives us the opportunity to synchronize again with our memories and past, even more childish, feelings.
The main stylistic and meaningful technique of the series is hyperbole. From the form side and in the case of an intentional postmodern attitude to the material, hyperbole is mandatory: so most characters are brought to life from bringing to absurdity clichés. And even if the first season ends with a battle for the relatively intimate and private - for the summer in Uncle Stan's cabin, the grand finale of the second season, and in combination with the whole project, still falls on the global confrontation of good and evil, where the existence of the whole universe is at stake (and here everything, unfortunately, is not so ironic). And the focus on childhood and adolescence, even formal, sets ethical hyperbole: the series should teach. However, like Tolstoy, according to Nabokov, the best thing that happens in Gravity Falls happens in it, when the series abandons direct judgments in favor of pure art - that is, just life. Alex Hirsch’s project is modern in the questions he raises, and sometimes archaic in the proposed answers, but its main feature is that it tries to prepare for growing up (softly and unobtrusively), which is fundamentally important in our infantile era.
For example, in “Gravity Falls” there are moments when Dipper – after all, the main character – acts as he should, and, in a striking way for a child-teenager project, his choice is not compensated by waving the world’s ethical wand: a missed party is not boring, and Wendy does not confess her love in return. Thus, the series seems to prepare viewers for the fact that in life, even if you do everything right, defeats are possible, and there is no escape from this. Therefore, the most vital and therefore touching intonations of the series reaches in moments of reconciliation of the heroes with the injustice of the world, as well as in moments of manifestation of its highest humanity: in "Gravity Falls" every person deserves a human attitude to himself (even Robbie, even Gideon) (but yellow triangles are not considered people and therefore do not count).
At the expense of its humanity, Gravity Falls loses much when it begins to engage in cosmogony, bypassing the small (and in fact, just cosmogonically huge in the adolescent consciousness) life troubles. The huge grand finale of the series, consisting of four episodes, unfortunately, is mostly boring, but brings one of the main philosophical twists to the narrative: in the world of Gravity Falls, the main sin is the desire to “stop the moment”, that is, stop accepting life in its illogical and even at first glance chaotic flow. This, in fact, is a rather cruel in its directness thought: you need to live on no matter what, not to lock yourself in the present (especially in the past) and open yourself to the future. The flow of life, sometimes just and sometimes not, stops when we stop living it, so to speak. But, in addition, "Gravity Falls" proclaims one of the main treasures of our lives - a precious memory (because it is in it that all experience is transformed), which defines us and makes us who we are.
To sum up, Gravity Falls is a phenomenon of its kind, an incredibly charming series about how life is divinely complex, as well as a magnificently subtle and touching elegy to a departing childhood. And as the main motto of life that, perhaps, the events of our lives are mortal, but the memory of them is alive, and feelings will never die - "See you next summer!"
To animated series for all ages, we have long been accustomed - we have 'Rick and Morty', ' Adventure Time', 'Samurai Jack'... and yes, 'Gravity Falls'. One of the first of its kind. And one of the best.
The story of two kids on their uncle's vacation meeting a bunch of paranormals? Perhaps of all the animated series ' for everyone' story ' Gravity Falls' looks the most childish - but only at first glance. Yes, children, all the time in contact with dwarves, monsters and other unicorns, which adults do not see at point-blank range, is kind of for children. But it is important to understand that Alex Hirsch created this story as an adult, recalling his own childhood adventures in which dwarves and company, though imagined, also figured. That is, before us is not an undisturbed fairy tale, the memory of an adult about his childhood. And even lavishly seasoned with jokes for geeks, which children are unlikely to understand - there is a stereotypical fighter from the fighting game with an arcade machine, and a tabletop that mocks the canons of Dungeons'amp;Dragons, and much more that is cheerful and pleasing to the geek heart. Plus cute evolving characters, an interesting world, clarifying relationships (just like adults). And a lot of puzzles that we solve with the characters, like diving through the screen in a sunny town in Oregon. And light but clear, unchildish sadness when it all ends.
Of course, it's not completely over - there are still books, tabletops, recently talked about a video game. But the story itself ends with a powerful chord, and all the plot knots are safely untied. Does that happen often? Hirsch seems to have deliberately wrapped up after the second season, so as not to stretch the plot for many years and not to interrupt due to the drop in ratings, as it happened with ' X-Files' and much more. To be fair, he had to make sacrifices to do so, making the most important character in the story the dullest—as if he had been invented, inserted into the plot, and prescribed at the last minute. We can assume that this is not a bug, but a feature, but it still turned out offensive.
But the overall merits of the series this circumstance did not reduce. It’s really a cartoon designed for everyone, in which everyone will find something that is close to him personally, whether it’s jokes, characters and their relationships or unicorns and manotaurs. Even after the finale of the series, this cozy and adventureful summer will not end in the audience’s heart.

It's been a long time since I watched this cartoon, but the memories of it are fresh as if just finished watching.
The most important thing is that you will get watching this cartoon - a world in which you want to return, explore it completely, imbue with real emotions to the characters and do not want to part with them.
For two equally delightful seasons, we follow the adventures of the Diper and Mabel twins, as well as their relatives. There is no point in telling about the plot twists, they are all interesting, each series is filled with its own mythology and they are intertwined so that skipping one series - then you can not navigate.
Everything in this series is imbued with childhood in its purest form. The way we filled it with secrets and adventures. Interesting characters and fateful moments. The film conveys this to everyone:
- Amazing drawing
Unusual and very expressive, focusing on the characters style (with a bunch of Easter eggs, for the most attentive)
- Magical music (You can't confuse these notes with anything else!)
- True secrets
- A wide range of emotions that you would not expect from a “children’s” cartoon.
You get so used to the characters that you empathize with them as people you have long known. Their motivations are simple and touching - that's the beauty.
In general, the impressions are very positive, I recommend watching people of all ages!
- What is the main problem when hunting monsters?
- You're a minor character and you die within the first five minutes of the movie.
I already miss this cartoon. Looking forward to it. The first two seasons were really, really cool. I don’t think I liked this series right away. I have loved him since the sixth episode of the first season ' Dipper becomes a man' It was from this series that I found the humor and charm of this animated adventure.
There's a series that really makes you laugh to tears. Gravity Falls is a successful cocktail of jokes, funny moments, parodies, jokes and mystery. There is something mysterious and inexplicable in each series. Gravity Falls is full of secrets, and with each new series we learn more and more.
It's been a long time since I've seen something so cute and funny. The main characters are very much loved. I’m writing these lines now, and a song from the screensaver sounds in my head. By the way, you always look forward to it, because the screensaver is very cool and seems hypnotic.
We see the summer adventure of the twins Dipper and Mabel. They arrived for the summer to visit their relative Stan in the mysterious place of Gravity Falls. Here brother and sister discover a bunch of inexplicable things, monsters, ghosts and a number of supernatural. Gravity Falls is full of secrets, and Dipper and Mabel find themselves in the epicenter of the most unusual place on Earth.
39: If you’ve ever driven through the Pacific Northwest, you’ve probably seen a bumper sticker called “Gravity Falls.” This place is not on the maps and most people have never heard of it. Some people think it's a myth. But if you're curious, don't wait. Go ahead. Find him. It's out there, deep in the woods. Waiting for you.' (c) Dipper.
I watched all the series very quickly, although there are not many of them. There are twenty episodes in each season. I won’t list them all, but I’ll say that I haven’t had such a great time watching them. In principle, there is everything here to make the viewer enjoy watching.
The characters in the background are also very, very funny. Once were 'The Simpsons' and 'Futurama' notable successful animated series with good humor and something warm and charming. Now comes to mind 'Gravity Falls' and 'Rick & Morty' Everything brilliant is simple, and 'Gravity Falls' Namely such.
The creators of the cartoon are good. Mysticism and humor, along with the already beloved main characters - all together turned out a chic adventure. The series is twenty minutes long, but they are quite intense. There were really unexpected moments, and especially such comic moments were the most pleasing.
In Dipper, many viewers will see themselves. This character is very real. We see how he turns from a boy into a guy, we see how he falls in love, solves problems that everyone once faced. He's the heart of this cartoon. The soul and smile is his sister Mabel. She is something inexplicable, positive and hilarious, ready to fall in love every day again. I laughed in my voice about the series with her about Rusal.
'I wouldn't be surprised if the man of my dreams comes in right now! (Stan enters the room) Fu! No!' (c) Mabel.
Stan is the most mysterious and incomprehensible character. You’re always trying to understand and evaluate your motives. But like the aforementioned characters, he too becomes a beloved spectator.
The series, where attention swirls with the harmful girl Pacifica is very, very funny. Well, the hero Sooth reminds me terribly of Patrick the starfish from the animated series ' SpongeBob square pants' They are very similar.
Should I watch this cartoon? Definitely to watch! Funny and funny creation, created with charm and warmth. I already miss the world 'G r a v i t y F a l l s' and eagerly await the third season, very much waiting.
'Gravity Falls' is an American, adventure, detective, fantasy cartoon that started in 2012. The result, an excellent animated series, worthy of attention and appreciation. Thank you and enjoy watching.
- Dipper, what did I ask you not to do at least one evening?
- Don't raise the dead. . .
- What did you do?
- Resurrected...
Dignity: atmosphere, characters, music Flaws: no Each country has its own anomalous places, we have Chernobyl after emitting a jet substance into the atmosphere, and in America – Gravity Falls. I doubt that such a city exists for us, but this series very accurately immerses us in an American quiet town, in which there are always some miracles with strange creatures - these are dwarfs, unicorns, manotaurs, mermaid boys. . . In general, the series is very addictive, but not all and not always, but if the mood is fun, it will roll: It is a pity that the third season was never filmed. . . The plot is set in the town of Gravity Falls, as I said earlier. The main characters are Dipper and Mabel, who come to see their grandfather, whom they call uncle. They have all summer to find a lot of adventure. Also key characters are: Uncle Stan, Wendy (a lumberjack's daughter who works in "Miracle Cabin"), Soos (also a hut worker) and many others. . . "Miracle Cabin" is a shop with fake exhibits, supposedly the wonders of America. Each series is distinguished not only by different characters with whom you will have to meet or even feud with Dipper and Mabel, but also by their “connection” with each other. Nobody disappears without a trace. . . Also in the series became famous diary unknown author, which describes all the magical miracles and anomalies that occur in the town. It became such a significant part of the series, it was even made in print. I also have it, so next time I’ll write about it, and I also bought a pendant with the image of Bill Schiffer in the store. Bill Schifer is the kind of triangular type who wants to take over the world. If you count the bad guys in this series, there are only two of them: Bill Schifer and Little Geddeon, who wants to own the cabin. Oh, I would not refuse to join the third one: The whole series is on a very positive note and has no negativity. In this series there is a lot of mysticism, humor of varying degrees (from which you can just laugh or laugh to tears), of course, the whole series is a continuous adventure. It looks very easy, relaxed and interesting. Gravity Falls was filmed between 2014 and 2016, but it still airs on Disney. I can watch this series many times, because every time it’s fun and interesting. This series is also suitable for learning English, as the vocabulary is at a conversational simple level. The series is also suitable for family viewing, it features moments when children need to close their eyes and plug their ears. I love this series for its simple atmosphere and realism. Even though there are mythical substances in the series, it has everything that is inherent in mere mortals: love, jealousy, quarrels, and simple mundane situations, but something in this series does create a problem - a secret that Uncle Stan has been carrying all the first season. . . In this series of 2 seasons, each of which has 20 episodes, you will definitely have something to do. . . Welcome to everyone and even those who like to take pictures of a round candy from different sides. . . The younger Lacrimoska was with you, and I have not yet been anathematized or excommunicated. . . More on Otzovic: https:/ /otzovik.com/review_8355967.html
Probably not very relevant to write a review on Gravity Falls in 2020. I first saw it the year it was released, I was 12 years old. I wasn’t a fan of it, like many at the time, I didn’t look at the details and various theories, but I was generally positive about the series. Now I’m 19, and watching the first season of the muscles of my face so that it was not recognized, drooling chin, and the abundance of kringe wanted to quickly close the player, as long as this nightmare did not see any of my relatives. Without further ado, I will go straight to the main thing.
Gravity Falls is a sitcom with a number of unrelated series. As it turned out, in the series there is a lore, well hidden and at the same time very deep. It reveals the past of certain characters and adds clarity to what is happening. However, 99% of viewers will not pay attention to such things, because for this you need to break away from watching the series, go back to previous episodes and study each fragment. For deep analysis, this is quite normal, but the main problem is not this.
Who among those who watched the series independently guessed about the understatement of what was happening? The cartoon in the first series is a funky-childish thrash with curves and madness in the foreground and practically does not change throughout the narrative. The humor here is incredibly primitive and consists in the exploitation of some stupid stereotypes. For example, in the episode where Dipper decides to become a man and begins to hang out with a group of men who behave like dumb rockers, trash their house and break everything that comes to hand. Well, you get the humor, like men are pigs, and they're stupid and they can only fight. I’m not sure there are even children who think so. And most importantly, the moral of the series is that a man is determined by his actions, not all of this. Holy shit, we didn't know. The other side of humor is built on some completely crazy things that are difficult to describe. Take the first episode: Uncle Stan invites his grandchildren to choose one gift from their hut. Dipper takes a new cap and Mabel takes a boarding hook. Okay. Yeah, it's weird because Mabel's character is weird, but what's the humor? Or Sousse, in fact, just a fan service character, the importance of which can be equated with the pig Mabel, which by the way the author ironically does in one series, changing Sousse with pig bodies. There was no funny scene with him in the picture. They are strange, in the sense that a normal person is ashamed, but certainly not laughing. The same can be said about cops, and about a crazy old man, and in principle about all the characters of Gravity Falls. They have no personality, they are just strange, but strange does not mean funny.
Consider the main and secondary characters. To begin with, they barely reveal themselves throughout the series. If it happens, it is only in one series. There is a conflict, the heroes solve it and come to some conclusions. But in the next series, they don’t remember what they did. And that's not the exclusive trouble of Gravity Falls. Many cartoons are created according to this scheme, but it is Gravity Falls who claims to be a deep lore. Unfortunately, with such implementation, it is not possible to immerse yourself in the series and believe what is happening. What, then, is the value of such a lora? Secondary characters do not inspire much trust either. How can you believe in a metrosexual kid who pushes his parents around and runs his own business? Now he wants to get a shack of secrets, then he fights with Stan in the pool in the spirit of Tom and Jerry, and then he makes a pact with some Mason. What prevented him from doing it 10 episodes earlier? Nothing really. The author needed to stuff the series with other VERY important series from the point of view of lore and justify the existence of the season. This leads to another problem.
Most of the episodes (at least the first season) are just not interesting. Characters in them, as we have already found out, are not disclosed, humor catches up with Spanish shame, and clarity in what is happening, unfortunately, is also not added. The whole series is just gum, with an obvious moral at the end, like “family is most important” or “a person is determined by his actions.” And that would be nice, but globally, the characters are not revealed, and the events that take place have almost no value. How does the summer monster affect anything in the series? Or a mermaid man? He's not even from Gravity Falls, which is supposed to be a unique, mysterious place on the map. As a result, only the opening and final series of the season are really important, and everything in between is just filler.
Now sit and guess where the cartoon has such a high rating. Is it really just children watching it, or is it Masonry? An adult, especially without a sense of nostalgia, will not be interested in this product. There are a lot of cartoons that Gravity Falls loses in everything. For example, Avatar. Or the recently released Kipo and the era of amazing beasts. These cartoons successfully combine entertaining and dramatic elements. For me, Gravity Falls not only did not pass the test of time, but also turned out to be surprisingly weak and tasteless work.
- Remember, reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram. Buy the gold!
It is a wonderful time of year – summer. It’s time for school holidays and vacations, when the whole family can come together to watch all kinds of content. And I want to spend this time with pleasure for everyone. I offer the most universal choice: “Gravity Falls”.
What is it? It is better to say, “Where is it?” This is a fictional town in the North-West of America, the name of which is put in the title of the animated series Disney. The plot will tell about the adventures of the twins Dipper and Mabel Pines, whom their parents send on summer vacation to their cousin Stan. A simple provincial town is filled with all sorts of secrets and mysteries of a mystical nature.
- I'm stuck in this video game. Theoretically cool, but almost so.
The target audience of this series are children. Despite the obvious hint of a cross-cutting storyline that we see at the end of the first series, almost the entire first season will consist of a kind of series-fillers, acquainting us with the colorful inhabitants of Gravity Falls, revealing the peculiarities of the relationships of key characters and demonstrating all sorts of interesting heroes: dwarves, goblins, time travelers and many others. Because of this, the adult viewer of the first 5-7 episodes may not be particularly interested in watching the adventures of Dipper and Mabel. The development of the main story arc we will see only at the end of the first season. However, all these stories are quite quick and easy to penetrate and get involved in them.
- Sometimes I wonder what the meaning of life is. Maybe life is just not a funny joke?
The animated series has characters of all ages with unique interests and character traits, which allows even an adult viewer to find a character familiar in spirit. It’s not uncommon to hear deep and philosophical thoughts from characters’ mouths that small audiences may not even understand (like in Uncle Stan’s words above). There are many secondary characters, and each will play an important role in the plot, or at least will be in his place (even if he says only one crown phrase at the right time). Separately, I would like to note the attention to detail: almost every conspicuous question will not remain without the history of its origin. Not without reason between the release of the first and second seasons was a break of almost 4 years: the creators during this time worked the story well. Show all this rich world helps colorful and bright drawing, which will please the eye of even a sophisticated viewer and make the perception of what is happening on the screen much easier.
Here it is important to note the format of the narrative: the actions unfold during the calendar summer (91 days). Provided that the series can contain events of several days, the series fits perfectly into episode 41. Here and the mosquito nose will not blow: so competently all planned by the creators. With all the charming atmosphere of the series, I don’t want to add a single episode. For the fact that the series did not turn into gum - a special thank you!
- What’s the point of helping the world if you can’t help the closest person in the world?
Against the background of all sorts of disasters and problems that our heroes face, they do not forget about the main thing - the people close to them. It is necessary to help and support loved ones - this is one of the main messages of the animated series, no wonder. Fortunately, it always looks organic and not edifying.
- We are growing older and the holidays are getting smaller.
Why is this series universal from the point of view of the target audience, despite its rather childish presentation? The answer is simple: we were all children. Who among us did not want to save the world, find a flying saucer or a cave with dinosaurs, meet unusual creatures? Children grow up fast. Even 12-year-old Mabel comes to this conclusion in a rather short summer, which means we can not lose a minute of our lives.
- The real treasure is time spent together.
I cannot but agree with one of the statements of Sheriff Gravity Falls, with which I would like to conclude my review. After all, for me, a few hours spent with the characters of this charming town was a real treasure. Do not forget about the simple things: dream, look for adventure (you can also by watching new movies / series), be yourself!
A friend convinced me to watch this series, and I did not regret it. A very good idea for the plot is to build a cartoon on collisions with various mysterious things, including such as Masonic conspiracies and so on.
Brother and sister find themselves in the mysterious village of Gravity Falls, where each series takes place various mysterious phenomena and things. And brother and sister, as well as their friends and uncle Stan, get out of any squabbles and confusion, fighting evil and embodying the victory of good.
Uncle Stan's belonging to the good is very interesting. I often have the feeling when watching a film that it was made by Masons or on their order and contains Masonic signs or Masonic information, or is a manifestation of the victory of Masons over the world.
In this case, the use of Freemasons in the plot plus the figure and characteristics of Uncle Stan led me to believe that this cartoon was made by Freemasons for Freemasons. And the main characters identify the Masonic way of life. Despite the fact that in one of the plots they fight the hero personifying Freemasons, but this, of course, is to hide and veil a secret. Not to mention all the cards.
The main characters behave wildly energetically, like typical modern teenagers with hyperactivity, ' indigo children' Which is great. The cartoon is a great source of positivity and energy.
Of the drawbacks, perhaps, I can name only a little careless drawing. Not like we say in Monsters on vacation or Zootopia. But that's not a big drawback. Perhaps the creators thought it was more beautiful. But the sense of realism is a little lost.
I've never seen anything better! And I saw a dead rat in a dumpster!
'Gravity Falls ' is an animated series that I don't get bored of. In my opinion, this creation was created with a soul and, as a result, was designed at an extremely high level.
In 'Gravity Falls' everything is flawless - both the plot with the characters (riddles, not trivial script moves, nostalgic anachronisms, incredibly funny and sometimes dramatic dialogues, beautiful music, stunningly detailed graphics and many other things that I felt), and the creative message.
I can not in the slightest degree single out any particularly successful element of this brilliant animated work, and dare only guess on the topic ' Why in ' Gravity Falls' I am not only satisfied, but also admired' Perhaps it is difficult to write a rationally sustained review of the topic set in the previous sentence. The series ' hooked ' and made your humble servant a little better. Made you think hard, reason, laugh, quote endlessly the winged sayings of the magnificent Uncle Stan and the damn charismatic Bill Shifre. To tell your friends about the real properties of unicorns, to be slightly afraid of Letoween Lookach, to adore every line of Soos, to associate yourself with Dipper, to hate Gideon, to pity Toby Resolute. . .
Now I am a fifteen-year-old with a lot of cockroaches in my head, and in the future (I hope I won’t jump out of a window today) I will definitely call Hirsch’s work the diamond of my youth. Well, that's when it's fifty or sixty years old (I'll look like Uncle Stan if I'm lucky). In the meantime, I will wait for a repeat of the series about Strangegedon at Disney. I am not afraid of a heart attack - I am not ninety-two yet!
Conclusion: laziness to advise others, because he did not cease to envy himself.
“What is the meaning of life? Maybe life is just a joke, and we spend our time waiting for the sweet embrace of death? With respect. Uncle Stan.
Gravity Falls is a Disney animated series that tells the story of two twins, Deepper and Mabel, who spend the summer in the unusual town of Gravity Falls. This town is filled with a bunch of secrets that the main characters so passionately want to reveal. In this they help other characters - Wendy, sometimes Uncle Stan and of course Sousse.
Now I will tell you in detail about all the impressions that I had when watching this series.
Pros.
1. Animation. In the series Gravity Falls, everything is within the animated norm - there is no pretentious character design, there are no disgusting pictures here, as they like to do in Sponge Bob or as in the Stimpy and Ren show. In other words, you do not need to get used to the picture and style of the characters - I literally immediately dived into the story and the characters I began to like almost from the first frame.
2. Courage. The show is initially focused on children, so the meaning and message of some episodes is quite banal. Not all episodes of the series have the courage. However, such episodes and some moments in which more serious things are expressed than Mabel’s reflection on what to wear a piglet are present in the series. The film raises questions about love, friendship, relationships and even death. That is why I would like to recommend Gravity Falls to view.
3. Monsters. This is a continuation of the theme of courage. The monsters that the heroes meet on the way look rather creepy, which directly tells us about the courage of the creators. Because to shove in a cartoon designed for children, so many scary and repulsive creatures is brave. However, if the monsters of Gravity Falls are not always frightening, then at least just cause interest.
4. Humor. The humor in Gravity Falls is unexpectedly pleasant. Honestly, I haven't laughed like that in a long time. The series is quite a lot of witty and appropriate jokes, including understandable only to an older audience. I never cease to be amazed at the simplicity and ingenuity of local humor. Even the presence of comic characters here is not annoying. Strange.
5. Secret messages and codes in the cartoon. This is an absolute plus for the creators. So stuffed with ciphers, codes and puzzles cartoon still need to try to find. They turn watching the animated series Gravity Falls into a quest. Just a brilliant idea.
Cons.
1. The presence of plot holes and ridiculous plot twists. Of course, I understand that there are some shortcomings in every work, but some of the plot holes of Gravity Falls just can’t help but annoy me. To avoid spoilers, I will not list them.
2. The people of Gravity Falls. While watching, I had a question - why in the cartoon most ordinary people are shown as some kind of mentally retarded. Only the main characters are more or less adequate, and then not all.
3. Plagiarism. In the animated series Gravity Falls there is a suspicious resemblance to the TV series ' Duck Stories', released in 1987, and ' SpongeBob SquarePants' 1999. This is the worst thing about Gravity Falls.
4. Final. The finale is a crucial moment in any work, where the author puts the most effort to create a logical conclusion to the whole story. Except in Gravity Falls it's made, to put it mildly, not really. No, it’s normal, but to watch such a frankly weak ending in such a wonderful cartoon is a shame. After all, compared to the rest of the series, where almost every frame was created with a soul, the last series look sloppy, and with each series it gets worse and worse.
8 out of 10
Let’s start with the fact that I learned about this animated series only recently, punched in Google “the best animated series of all time” and one of them was “Gravity Falls”. I started watching it right away. In a couple of days I watched the whole series. What can I say? That was cool!
From the first episode, it was like diving into the world of Gravity Falls. Characters are bright, humor is good + a lot of all sorts of secrets and mysteries. Alex Hirsch created a wonderful series and I am very glad that it was not renewed, because as we know, now there are many TV series that are absolutely shamelessly renewed, squeeze out of them what is simply not there (The Simpsons, Griffins, South Park, etc.). I am very glad that the creators had the courage to close the animated series on time just at the peak of fame.
I want to tell you about Bill Schiff. He is the main antagonist of this animated series. He's some crazy demon from another universe trying to change our world a little bit. To me, this is the best antagonist that has ever existed in an animated series. He didn’t appear in the cartoon as often, but when he appeared, he made a splash in the world of Gravity Falls.
So many different mysteries, mysteries, a rather unusual ending and a bunch of Easter eggs, that's why I love this animated series. And of course, wonderful memories of the summer, when in the same way, with his sister went to the village and searched for all sorts of secrets. And when I saw this animated series, my childish soul was already playing, oh, and before the summer is still a long time.
Conclusion: A wonderful series for family viewing. Believe and children will like it and adults will have something to dig for themselves.
Definitely
Following Rick and Morty, I became acquainted with Gravity Falls to be in the trend and appreciate this creation in my own way. Who says that cartoons are for children, do not understand the deep meaning and essence of modern cartoons (not all), but this project about Dipper and Mabel intrigues from the first series and falls in love with themselves. I just didn't know when it would stop. This series is beautiful!
Funny stories that await the main characters during the summer holidays in the strange town of Gravity Falls, give a wide range of mystical characters, incredible plots and unexpected turns. Each series is connected with the other, although it has a separate internal plot, but the main thread follows with the viewer throughout all (2) seasons.
Animation in the animated series pleases the eye. There are no sharp transitions of style, no focal approximation, everything is exactly arranged on shelves, sharp corners and sharp objects are smoothed out. The eyes are pleasant, the soul is warm.
This is a fun adventure in which students unravel the mysteries, build hypotheses and uncover the secrets of the city. Baby Dipper discovers an ancient artifact that is full of puzzles associated with the town. And then you get acquainted with secondary characters, each of which brings its own contribution to the project. Many "Easter eggs", which play for the pleasure of the viewer, and give rise to many theories. After the artifact, the series introduce different creatures familiar to us. The cartoon has many references to pop culture, includes various mentions of nostalgic things. Despite the first inclinations of the children's direction, the complex problems of adults are raised in the animated series. If you remove mysticism, the project is a well-developed heroes who have their own history. Some characters from the first appearance cause unpleasant feelings, but soon these people change, forcing them to change their minds when watching. There is no uniformity and cliché, hero, antagonist, villain, friend - all features can be attributed to people, but they will still surprise you.
Intrigue and mystery. That's the main feature. While we watch the cheerful atmosphere, from the first series we are shown that the main characters are hiding something. And that first lead keeps you busy until the end. Positive Uncle Stan, who with a specific view of life, amuses, shows his whole self, such a cunning, calculating and mysterious man. Only the viewer saw something strange in Stan’s behavior, as the character immediately throws jokes at you, walks away from answers and in places behaves suspiciously. It hides something, but the creators do not want us to know everything at once, and intriguing, adding with each mysterious episode more secrets.
In addition to Stan, many minor characters pop up “skeletons from the closet”. You get acquainted with these inhabitants of the city, build an impression of them, but they manage to surprise and transform so much that you no longer believe that once this or that hero was so simple. It is worth noting that some series looked absurd, but exhibited the characters in an unusual style for us.
Humor. It is aimed at all age categories. Jokes that shoot at the foreground hide ironic overtones. The dialogues are very competent, because of this, for some characters the joke will be fun, for others – offensive. Ironically and at the same time playfully, the series copes with the courtesy of the Academy. There is tolerance, but it does not come out of all the cracks, it is veiled so that you seem to suspect something, but you easily and naturally live with it while watching, while on the final notes you are told that the suspicions were not in vain. It is convenient that this manages to joke, but without insults. Fun to watch? Yes, of course!
Human qualities. Dipper is a teenager with typical problems. Despite all the adventures, his personal empathy, his struggle with himself, his relationship with the girl he likes, some details can be compared to his personal experience. Such a true story in such a mysterious town. Sister Mabel has her own view of the world. She is a visionary, romantic and a typical girl who is passionate about all the things that 13-year-old girls are passionate about. But her simple, non-scientific, non-standard view of things often pulls the heroes out of trouble. There are characters who are complex, there are characters with hidden potential, there are those about whom nothing is known. One of them is Soos. I can't explain why everyone liked him so much, and I consider him the best hero. A mystery covers his story. The excellent Russian dubbing emphasizes seemingly simple expressions and statements of facts, but they are boldly spread out into quotes. An ordinary working guy, who is older than the rest of the teenagers in the cartoon, causes tenderness and a sad smile. One of the series shows the dependence on social networks, the lack of communication with the opposite sex, which serves as an instructive lesson for young viewers.
Soos is Jesus! While the Internet is raging with theories, it can be emphasized that the character was revealed and even given a hotel series that characterizes him as a person, as a loyal friend and hero who no longer needs anything for happiness, everything is with him. This scene was brilliant!
The main mystery is the diaries! Awesomely the cartoon keeps in suspense. We learn a lot from the description in the diary. Such a cherished artifact, a guide to Gravity Falls, but when at the peak of intrigue pop up additions, you boldly grab your face and with amazing expression try to understand what is happening. That's what catches you, secrets that unfold gradually, each step piercing you like a dagger. It's just a piece of iceberg! Because the finale of the first season leaves a big open story. I was lucky to have started watching after all the shootings, as it would have been difficult to wait 4 years (2014-2016). Although I was training at Sherlock.
That I didn't like. The main villain, that's just my opinion, but he disappointed. Too childish and burdensome made it (in the cartoon, aha). Starting with the screensaver of the series, which also had Easter eggs, we were led to a strange child. But in fact, I was waiting not so much for the villain as for the disclosure of a secret. They are connected, so after all the detective investigations, we are faced with the one who created the diary, who filled an ordinary town with creatures. This pleasant adventure has notes of different genres and plots, so do not focus on the villain the way I did. Look for references and you will be happy.
“Gravity Falls” is a beautiful work aimed at both entertaining and instructive results. You can describe it for a long time, so it is better to get acquainted with this creation. A low bow to the creators.
The children settled in a forest hut in the district of the city of Gravity Falls (like our farm near Dikanka) with their uncle Stan, who masterfully robbed the local population at the expense of the museum of fake curiosities organized by him.
All the stories associated with his uncle, as a rule, emphasized his unscrupulousness in matters of making money, i.e. he was a fraud and a scoundrel. On the one hand, he was positioned as a positive character, loving children and their loved ones, but on the other hand, the orientation of his personality and a penchant for anything doubtful had a lot of grounds for criticism in his address. So the attitude towards him is very twofold. One way or another, in the course of the plot, Uncle Stan sometimes manifested himself from an obviously positive side, and in general the central plot of the entire series practically hung on him, like on a skeleton.
I will note here that the central plot is a well-thought-out mysterious story, rooted in the past, manifesting itself in the present by various miracles, and enormously influencing the future. In addition, this is one of the significant advantages of this series, that it has a single end-to-end plot, and not just a set of disparate mini-history in each series, as it often happens.
So, this main story unfolded little by little with the approach to the end of the summer holidays for the main characters. History delighted with the surprise of its twists and sudden discoveries, while at the same time upsetting stereotypes in making some important decisions and in solving emerging problems. In this sense, the script often suffered from obvious logical errors, such as “I have no other choice,” which, without the necessary comments, could make the children’s audience believe in false priorities. In this sense, the most striking stupidity was manifested by the detocentricity of the main ideological message of the film, when adults were ready to risk the well-being of the rest of the world for the sake of the “drop of a child”. Again, this is also a logical error, for there is no sense in fleeting personal comfort, if the happiness of others and of yourself depends on it. On such a simple and obvious example, one could try to show a pattern of sacrifice and responsibility, but – infantilism and lethargy, unfortunately, took over. That's pretty much it. In general, in each separate series, as a rule, there was a good and correct emotional or moral message.
Each episode was a separate story offshoot that showed some anomaly in the Gravity Falls area. These anomalies were faced face to face by children, the main characters of the cartoon, and sometimes with them and adults, including even in the whole city. Also, sometimes the series were focused on any secondary character, telling about him something interesting or unusual, and, as a rule, in the future it was harmoniously interwoven into the overall storyline, somehow influencing the course of everything that happened. Sometimes they were positive characters, sometimes negative ones, but since the cartoon is mostly children's, most often the characters changed for the better.
Admittedly, the cartoon offered many original fantastic ideas, sometimes brought to the point of complete absurdity, for example, Many Two. But it is also noticeable that the script was richly provided with references to other works of art, to their heroes and ideas, which was manifested in the video series, and in the voiced texts, and in “technical solutions”. A little surprised the final series, sometimes in its absurdity broke into a real thrash, and at the same time categorically did not want to go beyond the usual behavioral stereotypes and ideas about the world; instead of a grand final outcome, a grandiose heap of absurdities turned out.
The narrative as a whole was not intended to make the viewer laugh, so the humorous component is quite mediocre, but still not devoid of accurate funny jokes. Personally, I liked the cynical jokes better, but it’s a pity that they were often broadcast through the main characters, the children, which is clearly a bad decision.
As is customary in Western animated projects, a thread of childhood and adolescent problems and everything associated with it passed through the entire film: suspicion, fears, falling in love, peer criticism, rivalry, hormonal shifts, changes in appearance, characteristic age hobbies, and so on, and so on. Perhaps we touched on all possible aspects of teenage life, which have become typical for display in cinema. It should also be said that the cartoon demonstrated what the relationship between teenagers and different ages should be - but only from the point of view of the writers of the script, that is, in all typical clichés and no originality. It's a bit of a video game!
As a lover of animation, I really liked the entire animation component: graphics, movements, facial expressions, my own unique style of drawing, a unique image for each character. Everything looked amazing! 2D Fantasy and Fantasy.
Of the obvious drawbacks - a couple of gay police officers ... I don’t want to talk about it here; it was in vain that they were so beaten in the plot.
Conclusion. One of the few extremely successful and completely finished in every sense animated series. It's great, we can watch it! You won’t have to wait for another series.
Before the review (if I may put it that way), I would like to sincerely thank Alex Hirsch (writer and author of the idea), John Aoshima (one of the directors) and everyone, everyone, who contributed, for one of the best TV series of all time (and this is not an exaggeration)!
My first acquaintance with Gravity Falls took place in 2016 (then the last episodes of the second and final season were already out, and, having looked to the 19th series, I had to wait for two more). I remember the impression (we’ll talk about it later) that this show made on me. And it begins with the fact that parents send their cousin Stanley Pines (Uncle Stan) brother and sister of twins Dipper and Mabel for summer holidays in the town in Oregon – Gravity Falls. At first glance, adventures begin in an unremarkable place when it turns out that it harbors a lot of mystical and mysterious things. Each episode tells all about new and new creatures and phenomena that are revealed to geshwisters, thanks to the diary of the six-fingered author, the mystery of whose origin most interests our heroes. According to my description, one might think that this animated series is devoted to exercises for the development of deduction and only. But no! All the above adventures in a sense are only background, and in the center of the story are family values, teenage problems, the power of friendship and self-sacrifice. There is a unique (not afraid of this word), author's humor, which is reduced not to stupid and meaningless gags, but completely reveals both the main and secondary characters:
Stanley Pines:
A crook profiting from selling tourists fake exhibits in a small souvenir shop with the loud name “Catch of Miracles”. But all this is a screen (although fraud and love of profit are genuine). Deep in the soul, Stanley is a good and repeatedly beaten by fate man, ready to devote several decades of life to one cause, hoping to help a relative who is in trouble. And when nephews arrive, his gray everyday life acquires colors. And don’t let Stan’s sardonic comments about your family confuse you, everything they do is for good.
Dipper and Mabel Pines:
Dipper is an inquisitive and intelligent boy, not without fears and doubts that we all, one way or another, know from adolescence. However, his devotion to family, friends and everything he undertakes cannot but be admired.
Mabel is a cheerful and cheerful girl who can make friends with anyone in a matter of minutes. It also shows typical teenage behavior. Most importantly, he and his brother are inseparable.
Sousse:
A regular employee of the "Hat of Miracles" and part-time best friend of Dipper and Mabel. He is a secondary character and in the series Sus himself emphasizes this cute teasing. Further, he is tormented not by the most cheerful childhood memory, the cause of which is a bad relationship with his father. And the fact that in the original Sousa voiced himself Alex Hirsch, proves his reverent attitude to this, albeit secondary, but not second-rate hero.
Wendy:
She also works at the Cabin of Miracles and is friends with twins. If the main characters are about to enter teenage life, Wendy is already a teenager. Thanks to her father’s paranoia, which is fearful of the coming end of the world, she is physically well prepared, but according to her, she is only making a fool of herself, in fact, she is terribly nervous, because of the tense relationship with her father and brothers. Plus, through it, Dipper learns an important lesson for himself - you will not be violently sweet.
Baby Gideon:
Enemy of Stan and owner of the Telepathy Tent. Of all his attempts to get rid of a competitor, at first you may think that he is an ordinary charlatan, but you should not write him off so easily.
Bill Schiff:
The main antagonist of the series is an intelligent, powerful, crazy, one-eyed, triangular demon, who dreams of seeing the world in the chaos of insane / unrestrained fun.
Unfortunately, to avoid spoilers, I can't mention another character. In order not to spoil the impression (which I myself experienced during the first viewing, coupled with a well-developed setting and characters) from the solution of the main mystery of Gravity Falls, let his name remain secret.
Having passed the last session, in the breaks between writing the thesis, I decided to reconsider Hirsch’s creation and, as a result, I decided to re-examine it. So what can we sum up here? At the beginning of my writing, this was done.

Gravity Falls is my three kids’ favorite animated series. Gleb, Agatha and Leshka just freeze at the TV screen when the music and credits begin. This series is as mysterious as David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. Although the style is more suited to “Stranger Things”, there is also a children’s team and many strange incidents. But still it is a humorous series, akin to “The Simpsons” and “Futurama”.
In general, this is an unusual format for presenting material to the viewer, which you should definitely look at.
In addition to the paranormal phenomena that occur in the city of Gravity Falls, adolescents periodically have internal conflicts, someone does not like the girl, someone has not once met with boys, someone is shy, and much more. That is, the series helps teenagers get out of various situations with humor. Although humor is on the verge of foul sometimes. This is mainly due to Stan Pines and Grandpa Ford.
The cartoon is not built in the style of 3D, it is flat and drawn, the characters are somewhat reminiscent of the characters of “Hey, Arnold”, which was held in the early 2000s.
Result. If you discard the cliches that have accumulated in many modern mothers, and watch the series through the eyes of the child you once were, I think in most cases you will be satisfied. And if not, then in childhood you were a good boy, and not at all naughty like normal guys.

Success, it's hard to get. What's even harder is they'll hold on to the Olympus. Not to mention the test of time. Gravity Falls was an ambitious animated series. General recognition of the audience, praise of critics. It has given the series its “cultural value.” But is that true? Does the show deserve the praise it received?
The first thing I want to note is the drawing of characters, backs and animation component in general.
A "nostalgic critic" in his video dedicated to modern children's shows, as he said:
You can also see that the design of most characters is much simpler than before, this is done to spend more time animation. It also allows you to work out the colors, backs and of course the plot much better.
This animated series, being no exception to the above, is drawn with such maximum simplification that it simply looks like a hack. At the beginning of the XX century, the principle of animation called “rubber hose” was widely practiced. Its essence is in the image of boneless limbs, to save in the drawing of elbows and joints. By the mid-30s, the style was out of use. And if, for example, works such as the video game “Cuphead” or the music video “Squirrel Nut Zippers – Ghost of Stephen Foster” are a tribute to the cartoons of those years, with all their pretentiousness and absurdity. Gravity Falls, simply, skips, using a similar principle.
Protruding eyeballs, hanging hands and feet, disproportionate bodies and heads. Characters look repulsive, they are unpleasant to look at. It would seem that the background, the main component that creates the atmosphere and entourage of the series, does not shine with something excellent. Sometimes it's all soap. Since the entire viewer’s gaze should focus on the characters in front, they prefer not to try over the backs, and as a result, a soap effect is created in some scenes.
There are very few dynamic scenes throughout the series. If you do not take into account the finale of season 2, then mostly the characters are subject to passive actions. What the only question is. Was there any effort at all in the technical basis of the series?
The plot, the seemingly strong side of the work, in fact turns out to be weak, you can even say a mediocre part of it. Unfortunately, most of the series are diluted with already used plots, such as creating clones of doubles or exchanging bodies, or exchanging roles in business. Where has been used several times, weakly beat and all the plot moves become clear before the end of the series. It's one thing when you've predicted the plot move, but you don't know how the story will turn out later, which arouses undeniable interest. Or you can imagine how it might turn out, and in order to refute or confirm your thoughts, you follow the action with tireless interest. It’s another thing when it’s already been, and you know how it’s going to end, because watching what’s happening is not so interesting, and even boring. Some episodes could be removed altogether, due to their unnecessary informative use, such as Season 2 Episode 9. They do not affect the main plot, do not move it forward, and especially do not reveal the characters. The main plot itself begins to show signs of life towards the end of Season 1 and the end of Season 2. Which is pretty depressing.
By the way, no matter what the critic says, the creation of the story and the technical component of the cartoon are made by different people. So, in the absence of the quality of the second, the first must necessarily be qualitative. In order to somehow interest the viewer. Not the first, not the second.
The last thing I wanted to mention was characters and humor.
The characters were ridiculous and even stupid. Many secondary characters are so mindless people. But you still have to worry about them. Here you and mentally ill married to a woodpecker, and two incompetent guards of order, the humor around which is based on the fact that they show each other a loving interest. And a feeble guy with a mustache and a T-shirt, who also behaves hysterically, and arrogant rich people, and many other various degrees of dullness of fools, which will not be enough to describe the entire review.
I would like to focus on the main characters.
Maelble is the twin sister of the protagonist, who behaves as if she went crazy. Everywhere he pastes his stickers, climbs into someone else’s life, twists and simply behaves inadequately. The use of "healing sweets" followed by trip arrival. Or not a healthy love for pigs, like the wedding of your pet pig. Clear examples of the above.
Sousse is a high-aged child who also does not shine with intelligence. The joke is that there is always something wrong with this boy. For example, he stuck his head in the sleeve of a sweater, and he cannot get back. I guess that must be funny. Drawn with distinct rat teeth, and excess fat. The same features of his appearance, more than once savored throughout the series.
Wendy is a red-haired beast. Having friends of primitive primates, who like no one to paint the hut, so what if not another dirty thing will do. Distinguished by arrogance and laziness.
Dipper is an intelligent, erudite, critically thinking person. The presence of Enoch here is a strange, even fantastic phenomenon.
Stan Pines is a cunning fox. It is a clear example of market cheaters, ready to breed any simpleton for money. The character is colorful, with its own principles. Judging by the fact that every tourist who comes to his shop is a fool, his income is simply fabulous.
Humor is built on a rather strong primitiveness and even black.
Dwarf with the urge to vomit in the form of a rainbow, which became almost a symbol of the entire series. Inappropriate humor about someone getting a piece of paper. Curving and frank use of jokes of the level of Evgeny Vaganovich. Jokes about the bra, close contact of different sexes and so on. All this, alas, completely kills the humor component of this series.
I would like to sum up those from where such popular love came.
Most series have many hidden signs and “Easter eggs”, like the same “kona code”. Because of what the Internet there was a strong hype, at the time of the series was created many channels dedicated to the secrets of the city, diaries and their contents. It was a novelty, such a format has not yet been anywhere. So, the popularity began to quickly gain momentum, because of which the animated series acquired the status of a cult. But sooner or later everything ends, and as you can see the demand for riddles subsides. Gravity Falls is not an art, but a consumer product. It’s a new one and then...
If you’re ever on the northwest coast, you’ll probably see “Gravity Falls” stickers on cars. This town is not on the maps, and very few people have heard about it, someone believes that this is a myth.
The more you think about the phenomenon of "Gravity Falls", the more questions arise (just like watching the show itself; and characteristically, after the denouement, things do not become clearer - but this is even for the better). It seems as if everyone understands why the series has gained such rabid popularity: “Gravity Falls” is not the first project that combines the focus on several audiences at once (in general, a worthy work, and it is noteworthy that it is usually not very amenable to age labeling), and generally represents a mix of genres of children’s adventure detective, Lovecraftian mystical thriller and science fiction. Genre uncertainty (or, rather, versatility) is a traditional feature of the series and animated series of recent years, so it is not possible to be first in this list - especially after Adventure Time.
However, if it were possible to explain any of the cultural phenomena in such a simple way, then the need for artistic criticism would completely disappear in the world. It’s not just that “Gravity Falls” is popular: many TV series are popular, this does not make them significant even within their art form.
What did Gravity Falls give to culture (animated, serial, television, cinematographic) that did not give from many of its very worthy contemporaries?
For my part, I would venture to suggest that the success—both commercial and, um, ideological—of the show stems from its striking (and certainly intentional) resemblance to David Lynch’s cult TV series Twin Peaks. The point is not even in obvious plot coincidences (the arrival of strangers in a small and mysterious stately city, in which all hell happens, the presence of each of the characters with a dozen skeletons in the closets, the gradual unpleasant discovery of the intricate and gloomy backstory of the city, a sinister and manipulative entity with a name beginning with the letter “B”.. the list can be continued on) – we are talking about a cultural context. The fate of both shows is also characteristic: as well as Twin Peaks, Gravity Falls had difficulties with the release of the second season, especially manifested after the tenth series; it was also too eccentric and adult, and at the same time, towards the end (but not capturing the series “Weird Gedon”), too making concessions. As if frightened of a too harsh and obviously aimed at a senior audience of the season, the episodes from the eleventh to the seventeenth stand on the rails of a hasty narrative, linear and obvious, moreover, pronounced at the end of the series morality, hasty decision of most of the plot branches.
On the other hand, so what? Even with this unfortunate flaw, Gravity Falls is too bright and revolutionary in the world of Disney animated series to become a cultural phenomenon... and a favorite TV show for many thousands (if not millions) of viewers.
This animated series has a very important function: combating childhood fears. How can you be afraid of zombies after Sousse turned into one of them, but behaved to the point of fun and even in this state preferred to watch TV rather than eat brains?
Or you're afraid of ghosts. But the fear may disappear after the episode about the abandoned store.
In addition, the cartoon teaches you to think, to look for the cause of this or that strangeness. The monster in the lake? There is no blind faith or blind denial. Come on, find out!
And this is in addition to a balanced but sincere cocktail of children’s and adult humor, thoughtful funny characters and, in fact, adventure, adventure, adventure. I've been revisiting Gravity Falls for the second time at my almost solid age. There's not much to surprise me. I got it. The series is both kind and funny, for teenagers and adults. Amazing.
What’s more pleasing is the author’s decision to stop the series, rather than stretch it for money to the detriment of the script, viewers, and common sense. Forty episodes are fine. Very creative, there are no extra series.
