War and peace The Battle of Pearl Harbor is one of the most important dates in U.S. history. On the one hand, it was a very big black spot of shame, when a massive but unprepared fleet was defeated by a small batch of the country’s aviation, which was considered incapable of conducting military operations, and on the other hand, it was the beginning of the US entry into World War II, which turned out to be a victory for it.
However, the military component of the film is only a very thin veil, stretched by the canvas of the general background of the story told. It is based on the story of two friends, almost brothers, dreaming of becoming fighter pilots since childhood. The American dream has come true, and many years later, they are already in World War II. Brand love stories turns rather dramatic and twisted love triangle, developing sometimes in the most unexpected directions.
For the first hour, a serious drama is played out on the screen, where scenes of military strategy and preparation serve only a rare dilution of woven storylines, of which there are simply a huge number. In addition to the plot plot built on two pillars, i.e. characters, the film presents a large abundance of bright secondary personalities, each of which hides its own story. And each is told very clearly, always appropriate and very exciting. You watch the film with interest, delving into the meaning of brilliant dialogue.
The film raises and develops very serious issues and problems, both military relations and strategy, and relations between people. "A genius would have done without war," says the Japanese commander-in-chief, after praising his excellent strategic idea of attack, acknowledging the hopelessness of situations and making it clear to the viewer that war will be demonstrated in all its diversity. War horrors and military romance, battles on the water and in the air, dropping bombs and shootings, a sea of corpses and bloody bodies of the wounded, deprived of limbs, with burns, with serious injuries. The potential of a war film is revealed to the maximum, and the realism of cruelty sometimes even goes off the scale. The amazing sense of the frame helps Michael Bay to always get the visual exactly in the target. Aggressive manner and signature chips, combined with an amazingly beautiful camera game and competently placed accents for a long time.
Surprisingly, the movie is 03:03:03 (at least the version I have) and the military action takes place exactly an hour and a half after the start. Up to this point, such a beautiful love story and a fascinatingly staged drama are played out, whose dynamics will not let even a lover of continuous fighting get bored, preparing the viewer for the second half of the film, giving food for thought and simply supplying the video series with wonderful actors. From the participants of the events just run their eyes. If stars such as Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsale are in the lead roles here, then no less bright heroes of the other storylines are represented by a whole list of wonderful star families. Among them are John Voight, Alec Baldwin, Dan Aykroyd, Kari-Hiroyuki Tagawa and, of course, Jamie King, who brilliantly demonstrates talented performance in every episode. At the same time, the participation of all these world stars in the film is very significant and long-lasting, as well as the abundance of attention from the director. So did many characters, no less bright and important for the film, but a little less known and popular by the performers of their roles. And I especially want to highlight Ewan Bremner and Cube Gooding Jr., such guys, such wonderful images beat, well, just good! Each of the characters wants to applaud standing up, the play of the actors is flawless and devoid of any even the smallest claims. Everything is honed to a second, all the dialogues sound sincere and every word is pronounced with full familiarity with the role! Not every film can boast such a composition and such heroes!
After one and a half hours, the action begins directly. There is no better name than Michael Bay. Just a god of explosions and drive, with a unique manner of directing such events. And as always at the height of the camera work, helping to plunge into the thick of the terrible war, placing the viewer among the explosions and bullets, throwing it under the layers of ocean waters, then throwing high into the air, where the planes simply create exciting miracles of aerobatics and fight not for life, but to death!
Impressive spectacular shooting has always distinguished Bay from his kind, and the endless dynamics of events carries at all times further into the depths of events. The action is set at height, and looks more than natural. Impressive flights and bomb drops along with gunfights, seasoned with branded explosions and firepower. Cruelty and a sea of blood, war in all its glory, despite the seemingly mild PG-13 rating. The blood here flows in a stream, and the number of dead bodies sometimes skyrockets. Burnt corpses, the cries of the wounded, severed limbs, bleeding wounds, even into bottles of American Coca-Cola, and then human blood is poured. And the drama heats up to the limit when the hospital decides to let in only those who can really be saved and returned to the front. The human factor begins a ruthless natural selection and struggle for survival in the wildest conditions. Fire and water, war and peace, love and betrayal, everything is intertwined by a close connection of plot events, rushing with the screeching of fighters to the wonderful soundtrack of Hans Zimmer!
Touching to tears, sometimes shocking and cruel, and sometimes romantic and beautiful, the story of the film is gaining momentum with each new event, not letting go of its interweaving of intrigues and related stories until the final denouement. The war is what it is. Happiness ends in one second, faith needs every minute support, love is stronger than death, and courage and courage are stronger than pain.
A powerful film with the signature signature of an action genius, a creation worthy of all its awards and nominations, and even more. A very correct and clever film, where under the film of quite obvious pathos heroism of Americans, there are many deep meanings and great significance. In fact, a great work that deserves respect and attention, which you want to watch again and again. For me personally, this is the best military film in history. A real masterpiece! Bravo, Mr. Bay!
