I usually can't watch old movies without putting my hand to my face. This time, too. The film has wonderful special effects for its time, all this was done in the pre-computer era. The art of combined shooting, scenery, chemical reactions in the pelvis for the image of space ... now in cinema all these techniques are lost. It is also nice that the film has a long duration, then the filmmakers were in no hurry and shot so as to reveal the essence.
Now for the minuses. In my reviews, I often pay attention to the plausibility and scientific part. It is claimed that the planet Krypton was in another galaxy. Distances between galaxies are millions of light-years, even to the nearest Andromeda galaxy – 2.5 million light years. That’s how much Superman would get to us, flying at the speed of light, but it took him 3 years. Let’s say the movie scores on the speed limit, writing off everything on the fantasticity of the engine. But it is claimed that the fragments of the planet also hit the Earth, and asteroids superluminal speed, as is known, do not develop. Luthor simply finds information about the planet in his home library, saying that Krypton exploded in 1948. How did they know that??? Even in the 21st century, the technique finds only indirect signs of exoplanets through star oscillations and other details, these data can only be obtained from the nearest sector, not from another galaxy. But even if it were possible, light would still travel for millions of years. But even if all this were possible, the planet would still have a different name in our directory, since Krypton is a self-name, and Superman told the newspaper just yesterday. I have never understood this cinematic hack to shoot space fiction, guided by kindergarten knowledge about the universe and lazy to invite at least a student-astronomer as a consultant.
The acting is very bad. Theatrical, pathetic, unnatural. In those days it was quite normal. They did not live their roles, but fooled. Now it's just annoying.
Well, I was impressed by the comedic moment. The villains are shown to be utterly frivolous, an intruder of three idiots who plot a villainous plan, simply because they are villains and have nothing more to do than challenge an invulnerable deity.
