The first film adaptation was much closer in spirit to the original book than the recent series.
Here, the degree of insanity, surprisingly, conveyed much better. Still, the attempt to straighten all the events of the book into one chronological line very much harms the general mood of the film and kills part of the atmosphere along with the meanings inherent in the original source.
Excellent film adaptation, the characters are conveyed much better, despite less timekeeping. And Minderbinder is shown here as a dick.
