the best thriller
“Silence of the Lambs”, probably along with “Psychosis” Hitchcock is the most famous thriller in the world. It’s hard to imagine someone who hasn’t heard of this movie. I am sure that many are aware of the fact that this film is one of three films that received an Oscar in five main nominations. And this is the only thriller - a horror film that received the main Oscar award. You have to respect this movie. And then the words did not go away with the case, as the film turned out simply excellent. Buffalo Beal is killing more and more women. He's a maniac. And to catch him, a graduate of the prestigious Academy, Clarissa Starling, is sent without 5 minutes. She's not experienced, she's very shy, but she's pretty smart. And that's how she's sent to talk to Hannibal Lector. He's one of the coolest psychiatrists in the world, but here's the bad luck. He's Cannibal. And so through a series of conversations, investigations, and many other things goes special agent Starling.
The genre of the film can be defined as a psychological thriller. Well, a stretch of a horror movie. At least because of the atmosphere, which, in many ways, created a beautiful soundtrack. Well, here's the psychological thriller. Recently, the genre is very common, but, in no other film of this genre is not done so elegantly as in “Silence of the Lambs”. Even the same lecturer's cell, and it's all soaked in mysticism. The atmosphere itself holds the viewer very tightly. In general, the whole plot of the film is built on the dialogue of Clarissa and Lector and the breaks between them, in which the investigation of murders takes place. Everything is built on the confrontation of a giant mind and a pure heart. Or rather not. The heart isn't quite clean. As a child, Clarissa remembered one tragic moment when she wanted to save the Lamb, but never saved, and in a dream she dreams of them bleating. That's why she went to the police. These lambs are like a symbol of the inexhaustible strength of Clarissa in the fight against the maniac. Here she relied only on her heart, and in her future affairs she will be based on what she was taught in her academy. So, in general, in front of us on the screen played a great psychological thriller - detective.
One of the great things about this film is dialogue. Of course, they are not as highly “intelligent” as Tarantinovsky from Pulp Fiction, but still. Even the same sometimes meaningless dialogues about the same lambs are played by actors and filmed by cameramen and directors at the highest level. And in this film there is enough empty chatter, as, indeed, in other, many films about maniacs.
Half of the success of the film, if not most of it, is due to the actors. The magnificent duet of actors Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster is one of my favorite duets in cinema. So well suited to their roles. Especially Hopkins. Well, I can't imagine Heckman in that role. He's always a Western hero to me, and Hopkins will always be a maniac to me. And he was only in the frame for about 15-20 minutes, but during this time he showed such a great acting that he deservedly received an Oscar in the main male category, and now he is definitely in my 3 favorite male roles in the history of cinema. And his look of a real maniac, so steadfast, unblinking, I am sure that this is how real maniacs behave. I heard that he was inspired by the computer Hull from the movie Space Odyssey. Don't know. It may well be, but nevertheless... Jodie Foster’s role of Clarisse Starlin was certainly not so brilliant, still the class feels, but still perfectly played on the one hand closed and shy, and on the other brave, always ready to go into battle. Also a well-deserved Oscar. So both Hopkins and Foster I say Bravo!!!
The film is brilliant, to say the least. And less to say it is not to say anything at all. For me, he will always be the best representative of this genre. And the best thriller ever.
