Serial killers have always been romanticized. Take Bundy, for example. Even while in prison, he received love letters, just a couple of months after he was convicted of murdering all those women.
Evan Peters portrays Dahmer exactly as he was - a manipulator, an eternal outsider with serious mental problems. He wasn't "sexy" like Bundy, or "misunderstood" like Gacy.
The series does not attempt to present Jeff as sympathetic, nor does it present him as the only culprit. Part of the blame lies with society, because if not for police inaction and indifference, some of its victims could have been saved.
Separately good scenes with scenes from childhood and adolescence (although in “My friend Dahmer” this period of his life is shown in more detail). In my opinion, although we are being shown that he did have a difficult childhood, the series does not claim that it was the main reason for everything that happened.
All in all, one of the most objective (if you do not take into account some discrepancies with real events, but it is like Ryan Murphy, guys) series about serial killers, like and recommendation.
