Many people love this movie because they watched it as children. If you look at it as an adult, you can see how bad it is:
- The main character is a negative character. He spits into the hands of the givers, he is greedy, self-loving, vain, not independent, his character is called copycat (there is no clear Russian analogue, he imitates others ineptly, not imagining himself anything). But the cartoon is childish, children are not able to critically assess that the actions of the hero are fundamentally bad. Not distinguishing between good and evil, they begin to repeat the parrot.
- In the first episode, the parrot loses sight of his apartment, but he does not even try to look for it, although this is the first thing he was supposed to do. He can fly, there are only a few houses, he knows about the floor, could scour in one day, but waited for some reason until the winter.
When parodying TV, the parrot doesn’t say something really funny, but is full of nonsense. It could have been better.
- In the third series, the parrot goes hanging itself, pushing a self-deprecating speech. At the same time, the horse looking at it out the window smiles mockingly. Of course, man hangs himself, it's funny. When I was a kid, the hanging scene broke my heart with emotions that I didn't even know the name. I'm sure I'd be a better person if I hadn't seen this scene and this cartoon.
The parrot in all three episodes plays the model of a cocky consumer woman. He saws his master like his husband's wife, blames him for not paying attention, not giving clothes, not taking him to the south. No one makes such gifts to pets, therefore, such words are inserted into the parrot not based on the owner-pet relationship. In each episode, the parrot defiantly leaves, singing songs about unhappy love. And in the second series, he also stands by the road, selling himself. All this is a completely unhealthy metaphor for relationships, the writer put his unfortunate experience with women into this plot - so obvious are the analogies here.
- The title of the cartoon is an infernal parody of the biblical story "The Return of the Prodigal Son." Why? It would make sense if there was some parody of religion in the plot itself, but there is none. Therefore, it seems to me that the so famous phrase was used as a screen, an excuse to freely use the keyword “prodigal” in the title. Without falsehood, the title should be: “The Return of the Prodigal Woman I was inspired to write for a children’s cartoon.”
There's one plus, though. In the second and third series there are parodies of Americanization - the appearance of jeans, players, Western words, songs. “It’s a bible of hum” is the mentality of people who didn’t know shit about the West, including the language itself, but flaunted their ridiculous pro-Westernity. I found them in the '90s. Otherwise, the cartoon is disgusting, it consists of only negative characters, bad behavior and very sick author's ideas. Shame on Khazanov that he voiced this parrot.
