About the harm of advertising I liked the idea of making a movie like Hancock, but when I saw the trailer, I got wary. Because the audience was given a brief and indisputably unusual characterization for the superhero, which could not but please. However, I perfectly understood that the creators are not so stupid people to reveal all the charms of their plot, so the most important thing is hidden from the audience. I just wanted to know what the producers thought was important and how much I would like it. I can’t say that my worst fears turned out to be true, but I liked the film less than I expected.
My complaints, in fact, relate to writers and probably not quite the right advertising.
Personally, I think the main problem with the script is the inconsistency between the beginning and the end of the story. It feels like Ngo and Gilligan were working separately on their own parts and not looking at each other, and the result of their work was considered as a diverse film for any audience. Perhaps that would have been the case had it not been for the end of the film, more like a very abridged and hastily made Brazilian soap opera. After watching, perhaps, only the fragmented narrative, poorly glued together by the character of Will Smith, is remembered.
Advertising is probably the only thing that Hollywood always does wonderfully, so saying something bad about it is ungrateful. However, I will venture to say that initially the creators chose the wrong direction to correctly describe their creation, I assume that the matter is banal and consists in profit from the project.
I think it is not worth talking about the quality of directing and camera work, because nothing special was required from these aspects of production, as well as from music. Naturally, like any summer blockbuster, Hancock was allocated a fairly large amount in the budget, so special effects do not make you doubt their qualities.
Acting for me is always one of the important parts of the film, so I will say a few words about the main, star, composition of the film.
Will Smith. Although his work was a little uneven, against the background of the storyline, he looked quite winning. But by the end, I was a little tired of his ever martyred expression. In general, it looked decent as far as the role allowed.
Charlize Theron. Perhaps the first question I asked myself after watching this movie was about her: Why would a high-level actress do a low-profile film that will soon be forgotten? Of course, you can offer many different motivations, but this does not affect the play Theron, which is probably a step better than the film itself.
Of course, with a great desire, you can remember more actors and describe their play in all the details for a larger review, but they did not remember me, and specifically for this I am not going to review the film, over the past 3 months, such a desire has not yet appeared, probably, it says something.
Perhaps I was too harsh and categorical with this film, because I expected what was promised. But this tape is almost one of the best films of the last summer season. Actually - no wonder, because it is primarily easy and not stressful movie, giving a good mental discharge and some share of positive emotions. I think it will appeal to many not too fastidious viewers, which means that his main goal - to attract attention and entertain people in the heat - he fulfilled.
