Egor Letov began to engage in musical creativity in the early 80s, organizing with like-minded people in 1982 the rock band “Sowing”, and in 1984.

At the end of 1985, Letov was sent for compulsory treatment to a mental hospital, where he is about six months among the violently insane. In order not to finally go crazy from neuroleptics, which were pumped Letov in a psychiatric hospital, he composes stories and poems, which he transmitted through friends “to the free.”
In the spring of 1986, Letov left the hospital, and began writing new albums of the group on the transferred materials. During 1986-1989, the group released a number of albums "Civil Defense", such as "Red Album", "Mousetrap", "Totalitarianism", "Nekrophilia", "War", "Everything goes according to plan", etc.
In 1991, Letov ceased to operate.

At the end of 1998, Egor decides to resume the activities of the Civil Defense, and as a result, the style of the songs changes, each composition resembles an anthem, but the psychedelic style remains.
