Gozzi, 1922). He was one of the most consistent students of Vakhtangov, who developed his legacy. Since 1924, Ruben Simonov has been a director, and since 1939 - chief director of the Yevg Vakhtangov Theatre. Simonov’s directorial works are characterized by sharpness, elegance and expressiveness of the stage form, a kind of elegiac humor, musicality. Among his productions are Lev Gurich Sinichkin (1924), Straw Hat (1939), Mademoiselle Nitush (1944), The Living Corpse (1962), Conarmia (1966), and The Warsaw Melody (1967). As an actor, he had the gift of improvisation, musicality; he created different in character, full of artistry and grace images: Amethysts ("Zoykina Apartment", 1926), Benedict ("Much Ado About Nothing", 1936), Kostya-captain ("Aristocrats", 1935), Khlestakov ("Inspector", 1939), Sirano ("Cyrano de Bergerac", 1942) and others Ruben Simonov also taught at the Shchukin Theatral School, where since 1946 he was also a professor. In 1967, for a number of theatrical works, the director was awarded the Lenin Prize. In the cinema, Ruben Simonov, whose work was largely devoted to the theater, was not very much filmed. Among the films with his participation are “Spring Days” (1934), “The Fall of Berlin” (1949), “Gadfly” (1955), “Maria Medici’s Casket” (1980), “Anxiety Sunday” (1983), “Chicherin” (1986) and others. For the role of Osman Pasha in the historical film Vsevolod Pudovkin “Admiral Nakhimov” (1947), the actor was awarded the Stalin Prize.
