Her full name is Marie-Claude Ossar. She was born on 16 December 1943 in Paris. One of the first production works was a documentary film dedicated to the concert of the French group "Telefon" - "At the concert of the group "Phone" (1980, dir. Jean-Marie Perrier). In 1981, she created a production company engaged in the creation of commercials, involving famous directors: Jacques Tati, Martin Scorsese, Jean-Jacques Benex and others. In the mid-eighties, she began working in fiction cinema - her first picture was the romantic drama Jean-Jacques Benex "37°2 in the mornings" (1981, in the world box office also went under the name "Betty Blue"), which at once was nominated for the national award "Cesar" and was nominated for "Oscar", "Golden Globe" and the British Academy of Film and Television award for the best foreign film. Despite the success of the film, in the future Ossar took on quite risky from a commercial point of view projects - provocative psychological drama Serge Ginsbourg "Charlotte forever" (1986) and experimental satirical "Marquis" (1989) directed by Henri Xienet, dedicated to the life of the Marquis de Sade. One of the best films she worked on was the surreal black comedy by Jean-Pierre Jenet and Andre Caro Delicates (1991), which was awarded a number of cinematic prizes around the world. Ossar’s next film was the famous poetic drama of Emir Kusturica “The Arizona Dream” (1993).
A few years later, she again had the opportunity to work with the Gene-Caro tandem in the film “City of Lost Children” (1995). Further cooperation with Jean-Pierre Jeunet was marked by the release of the resoundingly successful romantic comedy Amelie (2001), which received several César awards, a huge number of prizes at international film festivals and five Oscar nominations. In her quest to achieve perfection in everything, Claudie Ossar has complete control over the work on paintings – from costumes and sets to the process of editing, staging lights and voice acting. She is the producer of such films as My Hands on Your Hips (2003, Chantal Lobby), Baby (2004, Mika Kaurismäki), My Angel (2005, dir. Serge Friedman), and also participated in the project “Paris, I Love You” (2006), which was created by various directors, including Alfonso Cuaron, Gus Van Sant, brothers Ethan and Joel Coen and Thomas Tykver.
