He began acting in the 40s as a professional theater actor and for half a century he played in more than 150 films, winning the most popularity in comedy roles.
The first directorial experiments in the movie “Crazy House” (1952) and “Message” (1953) were made under the influence of neorealism. His comedy Life Ahead (1958), a chronicle of everyday life of the 50s, was a great success.
One of the best directorial works of Fernand Gomez – “Strange Journey” (1964), imbued with bitterness and irony, did not get into the commercial rental of Francoist Spain. As an actor Fernan Gomez acted in the films of leading directors - K. Saura ("Ana and wolves" 1972 "Mother turns 100 years old" 1979) V. Erise ("Spirit of the hive" 1973) M. Gutierrez Aragon ("Half the sky" 1986) and others.
His roles in the films Anahoret (1976) and Stico (1985) were awarded IFF prizes in Berlin. The acting manner of the actor is characterized by soft humor filigree finishing of the image.
Recognition in the acting and directing field came to Fernand Gomez in the 80s, when the films “Journey to Nowhere” (1986) and “Sea and Time” (1989) were produced by him on his own popular novels in Spain, he also played the main roles in them. In 1989 he was awarded the National Film Award.
In the 90s Fernan Gomez works in his favorite genre of comedy: the film "Out of the game" "7 thousand days in a row" (1994) acting as a director and actor.
