Swedish director Roy Andersson was born in 1943 in Gothenburg. After finishing school, Roy planned to enter the Stockholm Film School, but admission was only for those who had reached the age of 24, and therefore initially became a student at Lund University, where he studied drama, theater and film history. But eventually he went to film school.

"Swedish love story" In 1969, he was nominated for the Golden Bear prize, and the second picture “Giliap” failed miserably.
The money was needed, and this forced Roy to shoot commercials again. They were unusual, and the talent of the director in this genre was confirmed by numerous awards at Cannes.
The financial condition improved over time, and this made it possible to create their own production company Roy Andersson Production in 1977.
In 1984, Roy opened another independent production company, Studio 24.
His next full-length film “Songs from the second floor” the director shot for four years – from 1996 to 2000.
In 2007, Andersson released his famous tragicomedy “You, Living”, consisting of many diverse stories and received the Audience Award at the Gothenburg Film Festival.
Roy Andersson is a kind of unique director. Having his own production company, he does not depend on anyone. He makes his films without a script or a strict schedule.
