Chan Hyuk made his debut in the 1996 television drama Model under the stage name Chan Hyuk. He also starred in Love You and Love You and played a minor role in the short film Zzang.
In 1999, Chan appeared in the music video for the song "To My Mother". It was the debut single of the popular boy band "g.od". A little later, Chan Hyuk took part in the filming of several more clips of the group, which were released in 2000.
His career went up in 2001 after starring in the film Volcano High, where he worked with actress Shin Mina. It received many positive reviews from both film critics and viewers.
In 2002, Chan Hyuk continued to work hard, starring in the film Jungle Juice, which became a box office hit. He also appeared in the popular television drama A Bright Girl's Success Story, collaborating with actress Chan Nara.
A little later, the actor played the main role in the film “Public Toilet”. This film was a joint project of South Korea and Hong Kong, presented at the Venice International Film Festival in 2002.
In 2003, Chan, along with actress Lee Nayong, starred in the comedy Please Teach Me English directed by Kim Songsu. The next project of the actor was the film “Wind Struck”. The tape was not a success in Korea, but it became a box office hit and the best-selling film in Japan.
At the end of 2004, Chan Hyuk, along with friends - actors Song Seung Hong and Han Jae Seok - was involved in a scandal: as it turned out, the artists illegally sheltered from compulsory military service. After a great public outcry, Chan Hyuk apologized to his fans and then joined the army, where he served for two years.
After his demobilization in 2006, the actor returned to the entertainment industry, starring in the drama Thank You. This is a moving story about a single mother (played by Kon Hyo Jin) who has HIV, and about a cynical doctor who suddenly appears in her life. Despite the success of the project, viewers still remembered Chang Hyuk's story of evading the army.
Then the actor starred in the international film “Dance of the Dragon”. This project told a love story between a girl who is engaged in ballroom dancing, and a guy who is fond of martial arts. Chan Hyuk collaborated with Singaporean actress Fann Wong. He won the award for Best Actor at the International Film Festival. For the first time, the actor attended such a large-scale event. Thanks to this role, he gained fame in Hollywood.
Later, Chan played a cameo role in the Japanese drama “My Eccentric Girl” (“Ryokiteki na Kanojo”), and also starred in the remake of the Korean film of 2001 release – “My Sassy Girl”.
Then he was invited to shoot a Japanese TV show hosted by Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, where Chan Hyuk told about the projects in which he starred, as well as that he is a fan of Taiwanese singer Elva Xiao.
A little later, the actor starred in a number of dramas and films. The most popular projects among them are Five Senses of Eros, the risky thriller Searching for the Elephant, where he collaborated with actors Cho Dong Hyuk and Lee Sanu, and the melodrama Maybe, where Chan Hyuk starred with actress Son Yuri.
On June 2, 2008, the actor married his longtime girlfriend Kim Yeojin. They've been dating since 2002. The couple met in Pilates class – Kim Yeojin was the coach of Jang Hyuk. It is known that the wedding ceremony was attended by close friends of the actor – singer Kim John Cook and actor Cha Tae Hyun. In February 2008, the couple had their first child, a son. A second son was born in November 2009.
In 2010, the actor received the best reviews of his career thanks to the role of a hunter in the drama “Chuno”. He won several awards and was also nominated for Best Actor at the 2011 Emmy Awards.
Soon after, Chan Hyuk starred in the drama “Ai Shang Nu Zhu Bo”, a Chinese remake of the 2000 Korean drama of the same name. The series was well received in China and received high ratings.
Returning to Korea, Chan played a foundation manager who decides to become a lawyer in the drama Midas, where he collaborated with Lee Min-Jong and Kim Hie. He then appeared in the thriller "Eui-roi-in" alongside Ha Jonu and Park Hee-sung. Chan Hyuk played a man accused of killing his wife. The character of the actor tries to find a lawyer who can protect him from prison and find the real killer.
Chan Hyuk was offered a role in the drama Deep Rooted Tree. At first, he refused, thinking that he could not get used to the role, but after reading the script he agreed, deciding to try. And did not lose: the drama was a huge success among film critics and viewers.
In 2013, he starred in the drama Iris 2 (IRIS 2), which is the sequel to the 2009 series of the same name. It was his third project in which he collaborated with actress Lee Dahe. That same year, Chan Hyuk returned to the big screen in the blockbuster The Virus. He then wrote and released a collection of essays in which he talked about life and work.
The actor then surprised many fans by joining the main cast of the Army TV show Real Man, in which six male celebrities join an army training camp. It was Chan Hyuk's first appearance on a TV show in 17 years of his career. He participated in this program from June 2013 to February 2014.
In 2014, the actor reunited with the director of the film “Volcanic Impact” Kim Tae-gyun, in the film “Thorn”, a thriller about a high school student who becomes obsessed with a married gymnastics teacher. He later teamed up with actress Chang Nara again in Fated to Love You, a Korean remake of the 2008 Taiwanese drama of the same name. Soon after, Chan Hyuk and Chan Nara worked together for the third time in the TV series Old Goodbye, which tells the story of a boxer who travels back in time and meets his recently deceased wife.
Chan Hyuk returned to television in 2015, starring in the drama Shine or Go Crazy. He then appeared in the film Empire of Lust, in which he played the insidious and ambitious Lee Pangwon, who launched a coup to become king of the Joseon dynasty.
He then starred in the Chinese film Inside or Outside, a mystery mystery thriller that also starred Simon Yam and Wallace Ho. Chan played the role of a merchant in the Joseon era.

Chan Hyuk has practiced the martial art of Jit Kun Do for more than 10 years and is also a former professional taekwondo wrestler.
Chan Hyuk doesn’t think of himself as a star, but rather as a freelancer who may never get the next role.
The actor admitted that he wanted to become a teacher.
Chan Hyuk has repeatedly said that fatherhood has radically changed his life for the better.
He went to his wife's training because he fell in love with her, not because he liked Pilates. He even once said that he went to her group, where there were 41 women and 1 man, and he had to wear tights, which was hard for him.
