We have radically changed the calculation of the film's popularity. Now popularity is calculated based on data not only from Kinopoisk, but also from IMDb. The measure of a film's popularity plays an important role on the site - the default sorting of lists is tied to it, it is used in calculating recommendations, and the popularity filter is almost always used. Previously, when calculating popularity, we focused mainly on the number of rates for films on Kinopoisk (strictly speaking, Popularity was this number of ratings). Just a couple of years ago, this approach worked quite well. However, as Kinopoisk gained popularity as a cinema, the distortions associated with this began to increase. and now they have become intolerant. The number of ratings on Kinopoisk no longer reflects real popularity. Films and TV series actively promoted by Kinopoisk gain more ratings in a matter of months than Titanic, Avatar or Game of Thrones. And now we have begun to consider popularity as a certain weighted average number of ratings on Kinoposik, Kinonavigator and IMDB, which does not coincide with any of the numbers. This takes into account distortions. IMDB, by the way, also has its own distortion - Indian TV series :), but it is not as significant as the distortion on film search. But we also take it into account In general, sorting by popularity began to look decent... Estimate it yourself
