“Malupen, or Older Saved” is a documentary film by the Czech director Martin Ryshava. Yakutsk is a provincial center, standing on permafrost in the middle of the taiga. At first glance, it seems dull, entirely consisting of the same type of block houses. But if you look closely, next to them are dilapidated wooden houses that store the remains of the people's memory, and high-rise buildings made of glass and concrete. This amazing mix of styles local theater director calls architectural jazz. He is preparing to stage the incorruptible "Three Sisters", so symbolic against the background of the leakage of the younger generation. The contrast to him is the geologist Vitaly Mishnin, who builds a house from construction debris found in a landfill. This amazing castle has a name – Malupin. close

Chytilová’s highly impressive but little-known documentary provides a fascinating and atmospheric journey into a hidden culture, one in which she herself participated. Chytilová investigates the lives of three Czech photographers (Václav Chochola, Karel Ludwig, Zdeněk Tmej) from the 30s to the present, and also embraces the submerged world of 50s culture and the work of novelist Bohumil Hrabal and artist Vladimír Boudník. close
