In the assembly hall of the House of Culture of the Society of the Deaf, a festive table is set. It celebrates the decade of the musical collective – the ensemble of Russian folk songs. All five members of the ensemble, five old women in the age of sixty, gathered at the table. Despite the age, the heroines of the play “Baba Chanel” are still young in soul, each dreams of love and secretly each of the grandmothers is in love with the young Bayanist Sergei.
The fun feast comes to an end when Rose, a new member of the band, appears on the stage, who should become its soloist. close

A vaudeville act. Trixie Friganza performs first a story and then a song. For the story, she wears a wide-brimmed had and a matching diaphanous shawl. She tells of a visit to a friend who has a five-year old son. The mother tells Trixie a tale of stepping out on her husband, and to conceal the story from the boy, spells out key words. By the story's end, mom is in for a surprise and Trixie has a moral for us. Then, the hat and shawl come off, a base fiddle comes out, and Trixie sings us a comic song about her first two husbands. close

Interested in the success of their production, the actor (Stanislav Sadalsky) and the actress (Olga Bogdanova) try to get used to their roles and do it most convincingly. Having not achieved the necessary penetration into the images on stage, they agreed to meet at home, in an off-duty environment, and engage in rehearsal. The partners tuned in to the creative process, the texts of their characters are almost learned, the basic premises of the scenes are thought out and discussed. The rehearsal begins and goes so successfully that its participants are not jokingly carried away.

Comic Genius was the world's first online stand-up comic contest that was open to all Canadians. It was sponsored by The Comedy Network and the CTV comedy, Corner Gas. It began on September 26, 2005 and ended on November 27, 2005.
During each week until November 20, 2005, the contest was open to auditions by any Canadian who had registered as a resident, or member, of the online Corner Gas community. An audition consisted of a digitally-recorded audio clip of up to two minutes of a person doing a stand-up comedy routine. During the week, any member of the online Corner Gas community could vote on the submitted routines and submit comments of praise or criticism.
After each week, the top ten entries, based on ratings and judges' discretion, were promoted to "contestants". The top two contestants from the previous week then became "semi-finalists".
The top five who advanced from the contest were flown to Regina, Saskatchewan to compete on a live comedy special on The Comedy Network, which was hosted by Corner Gas star Brent Butt, himself a Canadian Comedy Award winning stand-up comedian. The top two finalists earned an appearance on Corner Gas, and the winner received $10,000. close
