Once Farina manages to climb aboard himself, the kids attempt to stop the runaway locomotive, but have no luck until the engine crashes into a grocery truck. The film tells the story of Sakamoto Ryoma, a real historical character. He hated the shogunate, but wanted to defeat it without blood; a samurai and a great warrior, eager to adopt European achievements; a man interested only in ideas, not personal gain. A bourgeois revolution and civil war were brewing in Japan, threatening to flood the whole country with blood. Sakamoto Ryoma saw the possibility of solving the existing problems in uniting the forces of the opponents of the shogunate, primarily the southwestern principalities of Satsuma and Choshū. This was an almost impossible task, as there had long been enmity between these clans. In the possibility of such an alliance, no one believed, but Ryoma still managed to find a compromise, and in January 1866 to achieve the formation of a military alliance Satsuma-Chōshū. It was this alliance that played a decisive role in the overthrow of the shogunate. close

The long log drive: a spring journey down icy streams and rivers moving logs from the forest to the mill for sawing into boards, laths, and clapboards. For more than 150 years, logging techniques remained the same. Men cut trees by hand and loaded them on horse-drawn sleds to be hauled over snow to the river. Skilled river drivers maneuvered the logs downstream, risking their limbs and lives every day. This film survives as a record of the long log business. close

He plans to examine the causes of sleep, the causes of insomnia, and recent research on sleep, including a time-lapse film of a man changing positions 55 times during an 8-hour rest: why exercise, he asks, when you can sleep like a top? The film instructs one on how to get a drink of water during the night without waking completely, and other useful skills for the insomniac. close
