Ostensibly a non-narrative study of various aspects of a rural winter, this short film by one of modern Hungarian cinema’s greatest visual poets has all the spellbinding qualities of his better-known feature debut Sindbad (Szindbád, 1971), but here allied to a winning sense of humour that’s never quite allowed to detract from the haunting beauty of many of the images. The end of autumn is heralded by a few red leaves still clinging to a statue’s sculpted robes, while whip pans across the increasingly wintry landscape and close-ups of rippling water are given character by seemingly random freeze-frames and Zoltán Jeney’s electronic chirrups on the soundtrack. There are recurring shots of birds, migrating en masse, huddled by the icy water or lying individually dead, frozen stiff in the snow. So far Capriccio has been a reasonably generic mood piece, but then the snowmen arrive… close

The television series is dedicated to the life and work of the great French composer of the XIX century Hector Berlioz, the author of the famous “Fantastic Symphony”, a bright representative of romanticism in music; an artist whose talent was much ahead of his time. The very life of Berlioz was filled with events, happy and sad, creative searches, communication with talented contemporaries, some of whom were amazed by the depth and sincerity of the composer’s music, others remembered Hector Berlioz as a “pompous comedian”. Nevertheless, Paganini called him the only worthy successor to Beethoven, and Glinka - the first composer of our (XIX) century, whose work had a great influence on Liszt, Wagner, Strauss, Bizet. Hector Louis Berlioz took care of his life by writing the famous Memoirs. However, the composer warns the reader that one should not completely believe what is written, because he himself "has a strange ability to describe the imaginary instead of the real."
