History plot
Fighting at the front, a young soldier Shestopalov Vasily was wounded in battle. He ends up in the hospital, where he writes a letter to his mother, in which he hastens to assure her that he is all right, and they are now enjoying a temporary lull. To his letter, the son attaches at first glance a strange request: send him a spoon, as he lost his in the heat of battle. How about a spoon at the front? No soup, you'll be hungry. You can still live without a pot if you attach yourself to a friend. Not without a spoon. After receiving the letter, the mother writes the answer, and with it sends an old wooden spoon, which her son ate porridge as a child. At first, the post office refuses to accept the package “out of uniform”, but the woman manages to convince the postal employee that this spoon is extremely important to her son.
