Originally almost square in plan (about 360 by 330 square meters), Timgad had a strictly regular layout with identical quarters. In the ruins of Timgad, the remains of the forum, the capitol, the triumphal arch built in honor of Emperor Trajan (restored in 1900), as well as the theater, basilica, baths and residential buildings are well preserved; from Byzantine times - a square citadel with 8 towers and the remains of Christian churches.
