For the Russian audience, McCartney's appearance in Moscow is little short of a miracle. The Beatles were banned for decades by the Soviet government, which regarded their music as the epitome of Western decadence and propaganda, and the fans' only access to the group was through the occasional photo or black market album. Their reaction to his 2003 visit is a mixture of frenzy and rapture. close

Britney Spears: In the Zone is a busy batch of Britney-mania, much of it featuring Spears in crisp dance numbers supplemented by behind-the-scenes glimpses and chatter. The heart of the show is an ABC television special featuring live performances of "Toxic," "Breathe on Me," and "I'm a Slave 4 U." A fun highlight is Spears's hip-hop collaboration with the Ying Yang Twins on "(I Got That) Boom Boom," one of the few numbers in the star's stage repertoire with a little room for spontaneity. Between songs one finds Spears gushing over her grandfather, praising her entourage, describing the emotional toll of being in the public eye, and writing songs. close

This film, which many may assume is a historical punk documentary, actually is an honest and needed treatment of race and identity. Punk and Hardcore music is simply the microcosm in which it is told. First time Director, James Spooner, in telling this story, has opened new dialogues on these crucial subject both intra and interracially. Many times funny, sometimes sobering, a wake up call to America. An examination of the duality of racial identity that DuBois called "double consciousness." What could have been "The Bad Brains Story" is a story about kids, alienated by two cultures and two communities. Many of these punk and hardcore kids have never questioned their role in the punk scene or the black community until their interviews, and it's obvious as they struggle on camera to reconcile a fragmented self. close

It's just an exemplary concert. No contradictions: a high level of skill does not exclude predictability. From the anniversary concert, you should not expect anything else. Surprisingly, it turns out that the broken manner of Boy George, no visible place unlike a boy, remains forever young for a quarter of a century.
Before the concert, the camera communicates with the audience. "My daughter and I adore Culture Club!" a middle-aged woman shouts enthusiastically. Three respectable ladies in age choir sing one of the hits, begin to fake and fill with laughter. The New Romantics always played democratic, almost universal music. The frozen self-reproduction of Culture Club has its own appealing aesthetic. The concert features Black Comedy and Victims, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, and even David Bowie's Starman treatment. There's a lot to catch on to. close

Images of Argentina, rehearsals in the concert hall or at home, excerpts of recent concerts and archival clips complete this unique film on one of the most secretive and endearing artists of our time. close
