In 1943, as Japan's WWII effort falters, a vice-admiral proposes training squadrons of "volunteer" flyers to crash their armed planes into Allied warships. Yarn follows the lives of kamikaze pilots, as remembered by an aging Kyushu restaurateur who cherishes their memory. Honoring the dead and multiple military anthems may stir the soul of some Japanese, but elsewhere auds will make a one-way trip for exits. Battle scenes are well-executed and script delivers some memorable scenes, but overall competent helming and thesping are powerless over writer-cum-Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishiara's repetitive storytelling. A post-war postscript adds considerable length to an already over-extended narrative. Tech credits are good quality. close

Unlike history, art is familiar with the subjunctive mood. The answer to the question, “What if?” is given by the story of Junichi Tachibana, an ordinary Japanese schoolboy. Once suffering in a relationship with the fair sex, Tachibana managed to get together and go on. For this fate gave him six chances, six divergent paths, each of which was waiting for his girlfriend. The most interesting thing is that the action took place in the same conditions, among the same characters - just every time something elusively changed, and the next path appeared in front of the hero. As we know, Jun passed the test, proving himself worthy on each of the ways and remaining a man!
Viewers already know that Junichi managed to save the queen of the school from boredom, was able to stir up “Princess Nesmeyan”, gained the respect of a sharp athlete, at the right moment put a strong shoulder to a classmate, and relations with a childhood friend calmly and without excesses promoted another “four bases”. The most difficult thing was with an excellent old lady, for a number of reasons hiding the true face - but even here the guy succeeded: where honesty, where firmness, and where the holy simplicity, which does not care for any tricks and hypocrisy. In the end, Jun received the award, and we will be able to once again plunge into the world of “Tender Bite”; follow the beloved heroes, worry and... a little jealous! close
