In his award-winning film Lucía, Humberto Solás interpreted the theme of Cuba’s hundred years' struggle in an entirely novel way to create an epic in three separate episodes, each centred around a woman called Lucía and each unfolding in a different period of Cuban history, corresponding to the three stages of colonialism (1895), neocolonialism (1930) and socialist revolution (1968). The three episodes also present us with "Lucías" of different social classes. Solás described his film in this way: "The woman's role always lays bare the contradictions of a period and makes them explicit: Lucía is not a film about women, it's a film about society." close

The film Havana (Havana) is one of the small film sketches, novels related to the film work of Cuban director Nelson Navarro “Because it is me”. The film project “Because it’s me” consists of four such novels (“Recording”, “Uncle from Chicago”, “Close hug” and “Havana”). All these sketches are small excerpts from people’s lives, filled more with emotions, impressions, experiences, elusive feelings than events.
The film “Havana” shows one day in the life of a married couple, whose relationship has already become boring for both, and to somehow diversify their fresh existence, they took a ticket and went to rest in Cuba. This film is filled with joy, sun, light, smiles and happiness. It is as if an invisible curtain is opened, and we come to a paradise island, where the sun shines all year round, where azure waves caress the warm shore, and people are constantly smiling, dancing and singing. The main character of this film, Vera, meets the Cuban Dulce in Havana. Let the girls do not know each other’s language – they understand everything without words. New friends go on an eventful and adventure-packed journey through a fabulous old Cuban city. close
