Singer Arabella owns a night restaurant with the serene name "Merry Cuba" in a South American port town. A young German reporter, Robbie, and his friend, Billy, often visit the place. Opponents of the existing government are raising a revolutionary revolt in the city. Robbie, as an accomplice to the rebels, is being pursued by the authorities on suspicion of murder.
Arabella gives the journalist asylum. Days pass and the heroes of this story fall in love. The lovers plan to escape the regime and start a new life in another country. Arabella asks the powerful Governor Ramon, with whom she has a long-standing friendship, to help her and Robbie leave the country. But Ramon, who has long had his eye on the singer, ignores the request and offers Arabella a compromise - to refuse the visa in favor of Robbie. Sadko traveling on his ship "Falcon" also meets visiting foreign merchants from India (a Hindu), Scandinavia (a Varangian) and Italy (a Venetian) singing of the magic of their own lands to try and lure him. In the seventh tableaux Sadko is reunited with his wife, thinking his journey a dream, until he sees his fleet of ships coming up the newly created river Volkhova and realizes his sea Princess has transformed herself into the river in order to create the gateway to the ocean for Novgorod. In conclusion Sadko leads the hymn of praise and everyone rejoices their good fortune. close
