The film is a sub-story to Kirikou and the Sorceress rather than a straight sequel. The movie is set while Kirikou is still a child and Karaba is still a sorceress. Like Princes et princesses and Les Contes de la nuit, it is an anthology film comprising several episodic stories, each of them describing Kirikou's interactions with a different animals. It is however unique among Michel Ocelot's films, not only in that it is co-directed by Bénédicte Galup (who has previously worked with him as an animator) but also for each of the stories being written by a different person (in all other cases, Ocelot has been the sole writer and director of his films). close

A silent short film by Segundo de Chaumont. It premiered in France on October 31, 1908.
A couple arrives at a hotel where only one person works. The building is fully automated: the suitcases carry themselves, the comb combs the heroine, the razor shaves the hero herself. In order to achieve this effect, Chaumont used not magic, but the method of frame-by-frame shooting. The object is removed while the handle of the camera produces a quarter of a revolution, then it is slightly moved, removed by another quarter of a revolution and repeat the operation the desired number of times. When viewed at normal speed, the crest appears to be moving on its own. close

A lighthouse guardian leads a young prince towards an imaginary world, Taxandria, where the boy learns about the power of love and the value of liberty. A totalitarian regime has forbidden time: time watches have been confiscated, photo cameras are illegal as they freeze a point in time. A typical Servais theme: a power is oppressed by a constraint that denies what is best in the individual, and therefore has to be twisted in various ways, to establish an entirely artificial world, that has rules that may question some of the rules of our world at this side of the mirror. close
